Very entertaining and interesting
When Zachary Halleck is seconded to a special radar project, designed to track the new green-glowing UFOs that are appearing in the sky, he little realizes that it is going to throw him back together with his estranged brother and erstwhile fiancé. But, when the UFOs take an interest in the project, Zachary decides to sabotage the project by not turning off the power when his brother Carl tells him to. An explosion leaves Carl and Sylvia's control building a smoking ruin, and leaves Zachary with the knowledge that his is a murderer.

Later, a strange event involving the UFOs catapults Zachary some 1,000,000 years into the future, to a time when man is gone and a new race of intelligent humanoids have assumed mastery of the earth. Where has mankind gone? Now, Zachary must find the gods of this new earth - strange flying lights that guide the destiny of the planet - if he is to figure out just what is happening.

This book was the work of Donald Allen Wollheim (1914-90), one of the giants of Sci-Fi genre. (And later, founder of DAW Books - the name taken from his initials.) It's got a definite old-time feel to it, that feeling of innocence that you just don't get from modern sci-fi books. But, despite its rather strange time-travel plot twist, it's actually a very enjoyable book. I love the space ship he travels in, with its rather unusual "control panel," and found all of the book to be very entertaining and interesting. ... Read more
