An eerie mysterious puzzling assortment of Gene's friends
This book is a strange assortment of characterizations, stories no longer then one or two pages, recounting the bizarre and surprising lives of twenty (actually, twenty-one) characters.It's a wonderful glimpse at the immensely original and awe-inspiring imagination of Gene Wolfe, including an unforgettable look at one of the 20th century's most underrated authors.It's another must have for Gene Wolfe fans.And, as I've said before, if you're not a Gene Wolfe fan, go be one, okay?It's way worth it. ... Ce que j'ai lu de mieux en SF !
L'action se passe dans un futur si lointain que le soleil
commence à rougeoyer. La lune est verte, mais personne ne
sait plus pourquoi. Sur terre règne une sorte de moyen-âge, avec
quelques vestiges grandioses des civilisations passées et même
extraterrestres. Ce livre, ainsi que les 5 qui suivent,
tracent l'histoire d'un jeune homme, Sévérian, abandonné enfant
à la "Guilde des Bourreaux", qui, par amour, niera la loi de
sa Guilde et en sera banni. Suivra une épopée qui le ménera de forêts en continents et même par delà les étoiles...
Lecteur: aucune série SF n'est équivalente. Même DUNE est moins jouissif!! Le style de Wolfe est inhabituellement riche pour de la SF, l'histoire est bourrée d'imagination, et personnellement, je SUIS Sévérian quand je le lis.
De tous mes livres, c'est sans doute cette série que je garderais si je devais choisir... ... Read more

Awe-inspiring stories and a map of Urth and poetry & essays
It begins with a look at his use of books in the New Sun series.Then it goes into short stories that are some of the best stories I've ever read--and I'm only half finished!This book is not easy to get, but it is a must have for anyone who wants the absolute best, most compellingscience ficiton in existence.There's even a Sherlock Holmesian story.Gene Wolfe is unbelievable.I am tempted to think he doesn't even exist, and, like the infamous Triumverate, is actually a code name for a bunch of great writers piecing together thevery mysteries of life into unforgetable stories.
