QVII - the post war Nazi trials ressurect the agony of Jewish victims
This is an amazing and timeless novel.Uris presents the stories, based on fact, of various types of victims of Nazi 'experiments' --as told at the Nuremburg trials.

He has been meticulous in adhering to facts, while presenting the pain of the victims.He presents both the victims and the perpetrators as real people, as they struggle with their post war agonies, or seek to justify their actions, respectively.

At times one can barely keep reading of the atrocities, yet one must.We see the banality of evil and the ongoing tragedy of the victims long after WW2 has ended.

Imagine facing the man who neutered you to see if neutering really did cause obesity.Imagine facing the man who, with you in manacles, unable to resist, endlessly subjected you to immersion in freezing water until you lost consciousness.Why? To 'understand' how your physiology dealt with what you suffered. He cared not about your psychology or your humanity --let alone your psychology's influence on that physiology-- you were a lab rat for sacrifice, and you knew it.

I read this book as a child of 15 and, ever since, it has influenced my view to treat people of all kinds, fairly.It has also prompted me to be furious with those who are similarly vicious, though perhaps on a less organized scale.

Yes, there are too many in our Western Culture who would easily slip into the role of the concentration camp soldier, or 'experimenter'.Doubt my words?Consider that several nations, with socialized medical systems, have large groups of people who would withdraw medical services from the aged, on the grounds that the money could be better spent on younger victims of the same illnesses! Whose money, why the money drawn by forcible taxation of the very old people who worked to produce it! Yes, such groups exist in America, where medicine will likely be socialized under the Barrack-Clinton Obama-Clinton government.
