Editorial Review Product Description HARTWOOD'S CHILDREN KNEW A SECRET. A BAD, BAD SECRET... It was Leigh Novak's second chance. She left behind a faithless husband to begin a new life with her young son Jeremy—as a family doctor in a small northern California town. But Hartwood held a bitter welcome. Leigh's first patient, a child, died mysteriously in her office. And soon Leigh was too busy to spend much time with Jeremy. It seemed her only friend was Nora—the woman who took such good care of the town's little children. When Nora started taking care of Jeremy, he stopped getting angry, stopped crying, stopped telling lies.... Nora taught her children to be very, very good. If they were bad, she punished them. And if a child was very bad, Nora made sure he would never cry again.... "A haunting psychological thriller in the best-selling tradition of Mary Higgins Clark...."--LA Times "The book is eminently readable and as fast-paced, taut and compelling a medical psychodrama as has come along in years."--David Shobin, author of The Unborn "...I devoured it in two sittings! I found myself at the end of each chapter saying, 'well, maybe just one more....' It was spellbinding."--Mark B. Perry, TV writer and producer "Wow! This is dramatic, page-turning stuff—full of creepy villains."--George Anders, The Wall Street Journal Customer Reviews (14)
Not for me
SPELLBINDING WEDNESDAY'S CHILD gives a disturbing description of child abuse, but this is not just a book about child abuse, it's a story about small town life and its secrets. The Shlians have written a fast paced, taut and very compelling story, I found the book spellbinding and hard to put down. If you like Mary Higgins Clark you will love WEDNESDAY'S CHILD.
A Great Medical Thriller! From R. Barri Flowers, author of the mystery novels, DAMNING EVIDENCE, POSITIVE I.D., WHEN NIGHT FALLS, MURDER IN THE ROSE CITY, and DEADLY SECRETS IN THE MOTOR CITY.
A Medical Mystery ...full of intrigue
Charming, Engaging, and Tightly Written This faced paced story is written with an elegant charm uncommon in books of this genre. During the wee hours of the morning, I kept promising myself "just one more" until I had reached the final chapter. ... Read more |

Editorial Review Product Description HIGH PRAISE FOR SHOU "SHOU is a gripping story of love, destiny and international intrigue that will remain in every reader's heart and mind, and certainly one of the best mystery/suspense novels I’ve read. The lovely setting and the soul of China make the entire plot rich and compelling. It never overpowers the story - it only supports everything else that makes up this exceptional book. Masterful storytellers, Deborah and Joel Shlian write beautifully and smoothly, taking the reader on an enthralling journey inside the mind of Lili Quan - and inside the mystery and suspense of SHOU. Whatever you read this year, don’t miss SHOU. Highly recommended. Synopsis In May of 1949, Mao and his People's Liberation Army are poised to enter Shanghai and change China forever. For most, Communism brings new hope. For Dr. Ni-Fu Cheng, it is neither better nor worse than other systems. Only modern science will enable the Chinese people to truly compete with the outside world. This belief, coupled with his passionate love for his country, forces him to remain in China even as he sends his daughter and only living relative to America. On the verge of a stupendous scientific discovery, he never fears for his own safety. He will soon have the ultimate solution to unlocking the secret of longevity, the ability to increase man's lifespan beyond the allotted three score and ten: Shou. Forty years later, Dr. Lili Quan reluctantly sets out for China to fulfill her mother's dying wish to "return home." As greedy and ambitious men vie for the most earth shattering discovery since the atom bomb, Lili, a passionate idealist, meets and falls in love with Chi-Wen Zhou, victim of the Cultural Revolution and romantic Taoist. Their deep and passionate relationship flowers, as Lili becomes a pawn in a deadly international game. Along the way, she discovers her grandfather, her past, love and finally, hope. I loved this book
Great history and story!
Great action-packed book! Through the experiences of Lili Quan, the main character, the reader learns about Chinese culture and the evolution of Chinese society. As an American, Lili has a perspective which we all can identify with. Moreover, this book provides enough action to keep readers turning the page - way past their bed-time! I can easily imagine this book as a screenplay. The description of sights, sounds, and smells, makes you want to jump on the first plane! ... Read more |
