5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect gift!
I bought this book for my husband who loves Peter Max. I found the best price here on Amazon and my husband was thrilled when he open it on Christmas morning. A wonderful buy!

5-0 out of 5 stars The Art of Peter Max
I originally bought this book because I was going to have the opportunity to met the great Peter Max and wanted to have him autograph it. After reviewing the book after I recieved it, I thought the book was really nice with beautiful pictures of Peter Max's art. This past week I did met and have Peter Max autograph this beautiful book!

5-0 out of 5 stars Art of Peter Max
This is wonderful book and for me it was a great companion piece after seeing Peter Max's America at the Clinton Presidential Library in Little Rock. I was disappointed a book or poster wasn't available at the exhibit. However, this more than makes up for it. Many of the pieces I saw in the exhibit are included the book. It's hard coverand the dust jacket has some great metallic inks with embossing.

It is displayed prominently on my coffee table for perusal. I thoroughly recommend this book for anyone who appreciates books that are aesthetically pleasing besides being informative.

3-0 out of 5 stars Nice coffee table book.
This isn't a book that you'd just pick up and read by any means. It does have some nice biographical information on Max, but it's so generic and propaganda is it's disgusting.
If you're a Peter Max fan and collect his art this book is a must have for you coffee table/book shelf.Has a great selection of his work reproduced nicely for viewing.
If you're looking for information about Max, who actually seems to be one of the harder living artists to find FACTUAL information about , this is not the book you're looking for.

5-0 out of 5 stars The People's Artist
For pop culture collectors - or those old enough - the art of Peter Max may have been initially seen through his picturesque work on school supplies, like pencil boxes and book covers. Max essentially penned the pages of Pop Art as the people's artist by making access a vital concept.

The beautiful layout of this intriguing volume is a retrospective on Max's life, though with an emphasis on his more recent - Americana - explorations. There is a special happiness and eternal optimism in Max's artistic endeavors, which makes this collection especially brilliant. ... Read more

Product Description

Principles of Physics is a textbook for a one year algebra-based introduction physics course. The book is intended for students in the life sciences, the premedical curriculum, the earth and environmental sciences, and the liberal arts.

Since for many students this is their first encounter with physics, I introduce new concepts by qualitative and intuitive discussions whenever possible. And to motivate students and to maintain their enthusiasm, I have drawn on examples from sports, biology, medicine, and everyday life, chosen to match the background and special interests of the students.

Product Description
This book examines the science skills you would need to survive on an uninhabited island. It begins with a map showing where these islands are located in the world. The text then looks at the features of these islands and at how you might use these features to help you to survive if you were on an expedition in these regions. Aspects of survival are considered and each one is supported by a science activity which the readers can perform using everyday materials and equipment. For example, it shows you what to wear, how to find your way, stay safe and, if necessary, be rescued. There is an easy-to-follow activity on every other spread. ... Read more

Sociological Theory and the Environment, is a comprehensive survey and assessment of sociological theories of the relations between societies and their "natural" biophysical environment. This book touches on and addresses virtually all of the major perspectives, focal points and debates in environmental sociology today -- classical and twentieth century social theories, macro-micro linkage issues, globalization and development, reflexive modernization, ecological modernization vs. "limits" viewpoints, modernity and post modernity, risk society, constructionalism-realism, environmental movements/identities, consumption and environment, cultural sociologies of the environment, and so on. At the same time, the book aims to go beyond an inventory of environmental sociological theory."Sociological Theory and the Environment" stresses how new ground can be broken in the articulation of environmental sociology with major classical and contemporary sociological theories. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great Source and Teaching Tool!
I was very pleased when this edited volume became available.I teach environmental sociology at a major University that offers very few social science courses concerning the environment. Thus, students are not too well versed in these areas. However, my students are rather engaged by the various chapters in this volume--both the classical and contemporary approaches. This book is a very effective set of readings to use as a supplement for a textbook, or a great source for social theory courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Many of the chapters are so well written that I cite them in my research!I highly recommend this volume for faculty teaching environmental sociology and/or social theory, and also for those that are in need of a relatively quick yet thorough updating of the current state of theoretical approaches to the relationship between humans and the environment. ... Product Description
This long poem in 10-line stanzas is named after a small limestone village in the north Staffordshire Peak District. It is a poem about passage, transformation, and the resources of the imagination in quest of a sense of justice. Divided into five sections, the poem's first four sections are short poetical meditations on place and landscape, memory, and imagination in a humanized enclosure. The much longer fifth section brushes with philosophical, political, and other human discourses. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great intro book for second graders
This book was a huge but short lived hit with my second grader. It was great to get him interested in the Solar System, but he then quickly moved on to more detailed books and web sites. He took this book to school, andall the kids enjoyed it for the day. The see-through page segments and wonderful graphics grabbed everyone's attention.

It's a unique and good introductory book, I would recommend it for up to 7 years of age.

I also recommend http://www.kidsastronomy.com/solar_system.htm web site for the budding astronomer.

4-0 out of 5 stars Attractive, but light on information
This handsome book is a great introduction to the planets for the young reader. The pages are hard, cardboard-like, each with a clear plastic "window" that contains a drawing of the planet being discussed. When the book is closed, then all of the planets are visible at the same time. Each planet is covered with about a page worth of information.

This book is very attractive, and is a good resource for young children. However, I must make clear that there is very little information here, which means that older students will not find this book useful. Contrary to the recommended reading level of 9-12, I would suggest that this book would be most valuable for reader between the levels of 7-9; my seven-year old son enjoyed this book immensely. So, I would give this book a qualified recommendation. ... Read more

Product Description
Showcasing selected works from The Museum of Modern Art's superlative architecture and design collection, Objects of Design features a wide variety of industrial and domestic artifacts by great designers of the modern period, from early masters such as Hector Guimard, Frank Lloyd Wright and Josef Hoffmann to contemporary practitioners including Droog Design, Ettore Sottsas, Gaetano Pesce, Hella Jongerius and others. Some of the objects represent turn-of-the-century designs of the Vienna Secession, Art Nouveau and the Arts and Crafts movement; others are Bauhaus and de Stijl explorations; still others show Charles and Ray Eames and other American designers of the second half of the 20th century; representations of the Italian design revolutions; and contemporary manifestations of familiar genres using radical new materials and techniques of manufacture. The book's 360 color plates not only reveal the range of aesthetic viewpoints in design since the late 19th century but together trace the historical development of the Museum's celebrated design collection. In the introductory essay, Paola Antonelli, Curator, Department of Architecture and Design at The Museum of Modern Art, explores the history of modern design as well as the story of the museum's collection and its influence on the history of modern and contemporary design itself.Featuring the Minox Riga Camera, Filterjet Fan, Lexikon 80 Manual Typewriter, TCV 250 Video Display Terminal, TX 8-301 Television, Pocket Radio Model No. T3, GA 45 Pop Automatic Record Player, Boemic 2000 Microphone, Telephone Model No. F78, GK 100 Jellyfish Watch, Macintosh SE Home Computer, Smart Car, Ericofon Telephone, Tulip Armchair, Anywhere Lamp, Wall Clock Model No. 32/0389, Cubo Ashtrays, P40 Armchair, Sof-sof Chair, Shanghai Folding Clothes Stand, Tonietta Chair, Figure of Eight Chair, Outboard Propeller, Outside Firm Joint Callipers, Evaporating Dish, Cookie Cutting Wheel, Measuring Spoon and Scale, Victorinox Swiss Officers' Knife Champion No. 5012 and many, many other objects of design.Edited by Paola Antonelli.~Texts by Tina di Carlo, Bevin Cline, Christian Larsen, Luisa Lorch, Matilda McQuaid, Christopher Mount, Peter Reed and Terence Riley.Hardcover, 9.5 x 10 in./288 pgs / 350 color 0 BW0 duotone 0 ~ Item D20155 ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Objects of Design from The Museum of Modern Art
MoMA canonized modern design as it did 20th-century art, and this anthology of pictures and expert texts highlights a collection of 3,708 objects that range in size from microchips to a helicopter. About a tenth of those are illustrated in nine thematic sections. Many are icons, but there are a few surprises, especially among recent acquisitions, where the inventive use of materials supplants functional beauty. Paola Antonelli, MoMA Curator of Architecture and Design, describes the collection as presenting a history of ideas and realizing a part of Alfred Barr's dream of a unity of the arts. She explains how the old selection criteria of truth and beauty have changed while retaining some of their old authority. It's comforting to know that relativism does not yet extend to firearms, making MoMA's collection a gun-free zone. (Michael Webb is the book reviewer for LA Architect magazine.) ... Read more
