5-0 out of 5 stars Very enjoyable
Get past the enigma of The Godfather. All the naysayers will point to the original masterpiece as a reference point. You CANNOT compare this, nor 98% of other literature with that great piece of work. Just because it bares the name "The Godfather...", people immediately throw out comparisons to the original. This is a separate work. A very valuable piece of work to any hardcore Godfather fan. It follows Puzo's style of writing, and gives more depth and adds back-story to the original. It's meant as a companion piece. Not a sequel, even though it does technically fall into that category. To me, I've only had so much fun enjoying a book when I read the original Godfather. I immensely enjoyed The Godfather Returns. While this doesn't match up in quality to Godfather or even Godfather Returns, it's a great read. The Godfather is one of those stories where you can never get enough of it. There's so much depth to the characters that Puzo created. Even the smallest of characters are so incredibly interesting(in my opinion). And that is why these two follow-ups by Winegardner hold so much value to me. To me, The Godfather is a never-ending saga. And while many won't like the work that follows because they so strongly feel that the original should've been let be... There are many people, like myself, that have been waiting a very long time to delve back into the saga. I would love to see another. Even if we avoided the character of Michael Corleone.. Learn about the rise of Vincent Mancini or delve back, even DEEPER, to the life of Vito Corleone and his rise. We've only seen a brief summary of the lives of the Corleone family. There is so much more to be told. And no matter how many naysayers appear to shoot it down and ruthlessly toss out comparisons to the original masterpiece, I'll always be there to read more. And undoubtedly, so will many of those naysayers, though they wouldn't dare say so. =)

2-0 out of 5 stars Along the Godfather line
I have read all the books related to the Godfather line and seen the movies, too. So I thought when I picked up this book, I would be entertained in the same manner as the rest. Unfortunately, this book did not hold my attention or pique my interest as the others did. I didn't get the same "edge of my seat" thrill because it contained more explanation and dialogue than it did action. The ending was lackluster and bland.

3-0 out of 5 stars A good way to pass the time in an airport
While no one will ever be as good as Puzo in detailing for us the readers the fortunes of the Family I have to say the author captures enough of the essence of the characters involved for the book to not read like glorified fan fiction (for the most part). The only draw back is of course the one thing that dogs every book that is supposed to fill in the blanks of a story it doesn't matter how good your story is if we already know the ending.

Overall-Even though we know the end result this book is still worth the read if you are a Godfather fan.

4-0 out of 5 stars Loved the book, but
This book is a pageturner. I stayed up most of the night reading it, even though I'm recovering from surgery, but... I figured out the ending, which I thought was quite predictable. But still, a very good read. ... Read more
