She said she killed them because they were monsters.

Mary Blanc walked into the party with a loaded shotgun. In the blink of an eye she blew two people away. She wanted to kill more, but was stopped by her best friend, Angela Warner, and the police. Until she probes deeper into Mary's claims and discovers a horror so unimaginable that she thinks she is going crazy. She even gets to the point where she wonders if she should have let Mary keep on killing. While there was still time to stop the thing from spreading. The very old thing. The hungry thing. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars You never forget your first...
OMG!!This was the VERY FIRST Christopher Pike book I owned when I was a just a pre-teen!I must've read it over and over again so many times, that I lost count because the whole story and plot just fascinated me... and of course scared the BEEJEEZUS outta me, too! That cover art--WHOAH.I just could not stop staring at it for some reason.Maybe I was just weirdly drawn to the "HAWT Monster" shown on there or something, lol.But Seriously.YIKES!!

This particular book and "Remember Me" will always be my favorite Christopher Pike books after so many, many years. His books may be labeled "Young Adult"... but I remember quite vividly as I was reading this, of the 'mature nature' I felt I had stumbled upon.I felt and knew I was reading some serious 'adult' stuff. It made me feel like I was finally becoming a grown-up or something, LOL!It also made me feel like I had gotten my hands on something 'forbidden'... something that I just wasn't quite 'ready' for yet.

So if you think you're too old to be reading a book like this or any other one of Mr. Pike's scary-fun books--think again!! I had FINALLY just bought "Remember Me" again after it was lost somehow through all the moving I did during my child hood.Unfortunately, this book was another treasure that got lost along the way.:'(I may have not clicked on that little button up there that says "add to cart" yet... but I have a good feeling that I will be doing that very, very soon.;)

5-0 out of 5 stars Memorable after all these years
"Monster" was the first book I ever read by Christopher Pike. I was about 12 years old and I still remember how the mystery in the story pulled me in right from the start. After that, I read every other Christopher Pike book I could find in my school library. His stories are spooky, mysterious, romantic, exciting and I loved feeling like I was there with the characters in the stories. I'm 28 now and I still recall this book and the others very well, not bad.:)

2-0 out of 5 stars High School Can Be Hell
A friend of mine recommended this book as a guilty pleasure, literary-quickie sort of read.I knew right away that I might not take a shine to it, but I'd enjoyed R.L. Stine and his ilk as a kid, so I thought it might be good for nothing if not a little nostalgia for the Young Adult phase of my reading life.To that end: this review.

This book's target audience is obviously teenage girls. The protagonist, Angela, is new to town, not quite popular or outcast, and is just getting into the swing of high school sociology when, one night, her best friend, Mary, enters a party and starts blowing people away with a shotgun. The six seconds it takes for her to kill the first two kids pass without interruption -- a weird anomaly, but explained adequately enough by our author -- but then she goes after her boyfriend, who manages to escape. The rest of the book follows Angela as she attempts to figure out what would drive the younng, gorgeous, and intelligent Mary to commit such an act.Mary claims she did it because her classmates were no longer human: they were monsters.

Angela, not entirely convinced, starts to probe deeper. And, yes, I meant that as a partial innuendo.

Pike's story is actually much longer than the pages in this book.He sets up a lot of complicated backstory to explain the plot, enough so that it felt like I was reading the treatment of a novel. This thing could've been several hundred pages longer.

Instead, Pike focuses on three basic things:

--Angela's detective work. This is pretty rote and predictable. She interrogates Mary twice and visits a helpful geologist and Native American, both of them brimming with exposition.Unfortunately, these scenes are also exhaustingly boring because a) by this point, Pike has already given readers a pretty good idea of what's going on with lots of elaborate dream sequences and b) they are very poorly written.Pike's formula for the dialogue in these scenes seems to have been to dole out the necessary information, sprinkled with the occasional half-hearted plea for the interrogation to end.
--Angela's "urges."It's wrong (or at least, not totally accurate) to say that the book contains sex, but Angela very often mulls over her horniness, especially when she thinks of it in light of her newfound relationship with Jim, whose body is described as the perfection of mankind on more than one occasion.Even given the vague explanations given later in the book, it's hard to believe that she would fall so completely for this guy, not a day or two after his girlfriend tried to blow him away with a shotgun.
--The "evil."There's a lot of artsy nonsense about other planets, magnetism, and baths of blood. It's not exactly bad writing, but sandwiched next to Angela's weird dramatics and hollow personal life, they sound like snippets out of a completely different book.

Uneven, tedious, and unfulfilling, this is a classic example of a book that doesn't live up to its potential.Maybe the other Pike books are better, but I'm not bound to find out any time soon.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Read
I love this book.It's a quick read and a great story.One of Pike's best!

5-0 out of 5 stars Good
This is the first Christopher Pike book I read, and I liked it a lot. I find the sixteen to eighteen-year-old characters in his books to be more realistic and mature than the ones in a lot of other teenage-audience books. The plot in this one, like many of his other books, was very interesting. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The book changed my life
What can I say, the book is the first I read of Mr. Pike's and I I was in love after that. I am a writer becuase of this book. It's deep and beautiful and painful and wonderful. Just read it!

3-0 out of 5 stars An Old Favorite
Chain Letter has a very similar premise to I Know What You Did Last Summer.A group of kids are involved in a hit and run accident that kills a man. A year later, the horror starts up again when one of the kids, Fran Darey, receives the first of many letters in the mail. Only in this book, the letter is a chain letter. The chain letters ask them to do shocking, horrible things and it all goes downhill for the characters from there. But some of the things they're asked to do are actually quite amusing. For example, one of them is asked to mouth off to her teachers. I won't say any more but that's just one example of the dark humor to be found in this book (it's also an example of why troublemakers probably shouldn't read this book :)). So yeah, I thought that having it be a chain letter was an interesting twist to what could have been a stale plotline. I felt the ending was really sad and really satisfying (in a tragic way). That is why I was so disappointed with the sequel. The sequel just seemed to exploit supernatural elements to make it more spooky. The first one had a humanity to it that impressed me. It can`t compete with Poe or anything, but as a teen horror book, it's pretty good.

It's good for 13 year olds. It's a little more mature than R.L. Stine books. The characters are more sexualized and the language is more harsh. But it's better written.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not One of Pike's Best, But Still An OK Read
Chain Letter is one of Pike's earliest novels, written in 1986.Pike peppers this book with cultural references from the '80's, which make it a bit dated. How many teens in 2006 will have a clue who Natassja Kinski is and that she was in a sexy photo with a boa constrictor?

The story starts out strongly.A group of friends have covered up an accident - or a crime. An ominous person calling himself The Caretaker knows all about it.The Caretaker wants each of them to do extremely embarrassing things - or he will kill them one by one. Will the friends stick together or turn on each other?Worse, what if the Caretaker is one of them?

The best part of the novel was the setting of one of the character's homes, a deserted housing tract in the desert.Look at the cover and see the dark hills around the lonely house.Great setting and descriptive writing when talking about the tract!Good explanation as to why no one but this one family had moved in yet.

Pike develops the characters well.Unfortunately, most of them are not likeable. The end was not smashing in that it was not a surprise, and Pike left loose ends hanging. Many incongruities in the final resolution were not explained.

I was nauseated by the sickeningly sweet, sentimental, and totally implausible ending.Who cares about the budding romance between so and so?Oh, God, it was so Disneyfied!I also did not like the fact that Pike took the easy way out and had all the teens' parents away on long trips during all of the action.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book
This was the first Christopher Pike book I read, and is still one of my favorite ever.If you want to read something good, than this is the bookl.I liked how the letter had the whole colom system, and Neil being not just one of them, you have to read number two to see the second Caretaker(Sasha). In short, this book is good.Read it.

3-0 out of 5 stars Pike's best, very entertaining
Of the four Pike novels that I've read, Chain Letter is by far the best. Pike works within a strict formula that involves a whodunit, attractive young protagonists, and a thrilling sense of danger. In this particular outing, these elements are bolstered by a stronger-than-average set of characters, and above all the nifty idea that a chain letter is making demands that must be met.

This book could have served as the inspiration for "I Know What You Did Last Summer," and shares that movie's premise of a shared horrible secret that comes back to haunt the young beautiful friends who left a man for dead.

Pike has a knack for moving a story along in the manner of a conventional thriller novel, and this book is extra exciting because of the gimmick of overt threats and unspeakably horrible demands.

By playing on an Urban Legend, Pike has tapped into something that hits a little closer to home than most of his works.

If you're going to give Pike a try, this is the book to cut your teeth on.

She has saved the Earth from an invasion by elves and other creatures from the elemental world that lies parallel to our own.

WARNING: IF YOU HAVE NOT READ "ALOSHA" DO NOT READ THIS REVIEW.
In "The Shaktra", Ali travels into the elemental kingdom looking for her mom. Meanwhile, Steve and Cindy try to gather more information about the Shaktra in a nearby town. Ali makes some new friends and learns more about her identity and powers as the fairy queen.
It's a good bridge book between the first part and what I assume will be the final battle in "The Yanti." It has it's own plot with enough loose ends to entice one to pick up the next immediately after reading the last page. The juvenile writing style didn't bother me as much in this book as the last. Possibly the writing has gotten better, or possibly the storyline is so intense and suspenseful that one doesn't take much notice of the actual words. Whichever, this was quite a decent book.

4-0 out of 5 stars The Shaktra:Unexpected
Title: The Shaktra by Christopher Pike

Pages: 334.

Time spent on the "to read" shelf: 3 years.

Days spent reading it: 3 days.

Why I read it: After reading Alosha, I almost decided not to continue this trilogy. I was a little disappointed. However, my desire to complete things got the better of me, and I picked up The Shaktra as originally intended.

Brief review: The Shaktra is the second book in the Alosha trilogy. I was disappointed in the first book, but was quite surprised by the second. I'm not sure what the difference was, but Shaktra exceeded my expectations.

The story moves along a bit quicker I think, and the images in the book are more unique and memorable than in the first book. For instance there are these great creatures in the book called scabs, which are like jellyfish that float in the air and suck the brains out of their victims. That's awesome in my book. Although Pike draws out some of the basic questions of the book through the whole book (like who or what is the Shaktra?), he does move the plot along.

One thing that was kind of odd was how little Pike used some of the main characters from the first book in this book. A troll and leprechaun are constant traveling companions of Ali, but they do very little besides whimper and complain in this book. I mean, come on, you have a freakin' troll in your entourage, use it!

But overall, this book delivers in a way that the first book in the trilogy did not. And for me, that is huge. Most trilogies that start great have trouble in the middle section, this book wobbled a little, but was more solid than its origins.

Favorite quote: "And it was a great treat to hear a troll giggling, because he sounded like he was about to throw up."

Stars: 4 out of 5.

Final Word: Unexpected.

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing fantasy read!
I don't understand how many people simply didn't love this book! It's amazing!! :) My husband even read it and he loved it and we're both adults. This whole series is just amazing. Just like The Last Vampire series it captivates and leaves you wanting to join the fantasy realm. Definitely better than any Harry Potter book by far and to be honest Harry Potter books are just plain boring.

3-0 out of 5 stars The Last Vampire #4: Phantom
The Last Vampire #4: Phantom, by Christopher Pike

When we last saw Sita, she had used an ancient alchemical process to transform from vampire to human. And so for the first time in 5,000 years, she is human...but is being human what she really wants?

At first it appears so. Minutes after the transformation is complete, Ray, her lover previously thought dead, knocks on the door. Together the two start a life of domestic bliss, and within weeks Sita is pregnant. Finally she will have a child, to replace the one she lost 5,000 years ago.

But her child isn't exactly human, which is quickly obvious when the child is born months before her due date. And when Kalika starts demanding blood, Sita knows she's birthed a monster. But her love for her child prevents her from killing Kalika...

"Phantom" starts a new direction for The Last Vampire series, and at times doesn't seem to quite fit with the previous books. I feel it is best to read this and the next two in the series at once, as if you were reading one book rather than three - it doesn't stand well on its own. Pike introduces New Age ideas and Eastern religions, as Kalika is actually Kali Ma. With "Phantom," Pike sends Sita on a journey of self-reflection that will carry into the next two books in the series.

5-0 out of 5 stars Couldn't put it down!!!
Do not miss this book. One of the best books I have ever read and I am an avid reader!! Do not judge this book by it's cover.

5-0 out of 5 stars the last vampire 4 phantom
The series is one of the best vampire stories I have read, very entertaining, and never a dull moment. The author doesn't waste alot of time describing inner feelings which can sometimes get you off track of the conversation between two characters (like twilight sometimes does). The cover doesn't match the book at all, so don't pay attention to that. The new released version of the same older book is Thirst which includes the first 3 books. I bought Thirst then decided I didn't want to wait until Oct for thirst 2 (includes the remainder 3 books), which is where this book pickes up.

5-0 out of 5 stars A WONDERFUL READ!!!
This is actually my favorite book series. I read it when i was around 15 or so. I enjoyed the read so much, that i bought the entire series for my mother (^_^)
Anyone who has a chance to read the set, i would definately encourage them to do so!

5-0 out of 5 stars Very satisfied!
The transaction was totally painless, the seller had fantastic communication, and the product was EXACTLY as described. I'm very satisfied :)

4-0 out of 5 stars Childhood favorite
At ten, I was a voracious reader who often complained about the mystery books geared for kids my age. I usually figured the endings out very early on, which deflates the entire story, no matter how well developed the characters are.

I had an uncle with a similar passion for books; we often read together. He was a huge fan of mystery, especially Stephen King, and he harbored a hope that Christopher Pike would help prepare me for King's work when I was older. He found out about Christopher Pike from one of our public librarians and, that winter, when a bad case of strep throat kept me home from school, he promptly went to the bookstore and purchased this book.

I fell in love with the author immediately - because I couldn't guess the ending to this book. I was so blown away that I immediately spent most of my allowance on purchasing other books by Pike.

1-0 out of 5 stars How can you people think this book is good?!?
I have never read Christopher Pike, so I don't know if all of his books are this stupid, but this is by far the worst book I've ever read!!!!!!! First, there's this really sweet Chad kid, but by the end of the book, he gets a personality transplant...I don't know if I read the same book as you, but if I did, whoever put "best ending ever" as their title has some serious issues. How is "can't stop pushing your friends off these cliffs, can you bitch" a good ending? Other people I know at all different age ranges agree with me that this book is totally weird. I mean sure, if you love blood and gore and skipped over the seriously stupid plot and just read the disgusting parts, maybe you might have found it ok...that is if you were in an excellent mood, it was your birthday, and you just won $1,000,000,000, but even then, it would still be stretching it to call it "ok". If you are thinking of reading this book, 1 word for you: DON'T! You will hate it! Don't condemn yourself to it! Its disgusting and stupid! If you want a good book to read, read the Twilight series, but NOT Fall into Darkness. Honestly. I suffered through reading it, and right now I am trying to save you from going through such torture. You people say that it was some work of art how he kept changing the plot, but wake up and smell the roses, everyone. Its a bad book by a bad author who kept contradicting himself. I don't know about you, but I think you should be able to pick up a random book with an interesting sounding back without having to read that!!! Christopher Pike should be thanking me profusely that I even gave it one star, and not zero. If I could be sure that the computer wouldn't just assume I forgot to rate it and wouldn't show the zero stars, I definatly would have given it a zero. But since I didn't put a zero on the stars, here it is for you now. A big, fat, ZERO!
If you don't think that is the dumbest thing on earth, you seriously need to see a doctor.
...So, last warning, everyone. Unless you are an insane creepy person like the other people who wrote positive reviews of this book, trust me you don't want to read Fall into Darkness. As for Christopher Pike, I'm sorry, but I'll never read another of your books...and I think maybe you should consider taking Fall into Darkness off the market.

1-0 out of 5 stars Totally not for me
All right, this book really sucked. It started out as good for me but eventually, I got bored with the plot and it was really easy to figure out who the killer was.

4-0 out of 5 stars One of my favorite nostalgic Pike books
Sharon is accused of killing her best friend Ann.Three witnesses heard everything, though they didn't see it.They heard Ann scream at Sharon, and then they heard her fall over the edge of a cliff. Her body has not been found, but they know she must be dead and the only logical conclusion is that Sharon killed her.But Sharon knows she didn't do it.So why did Ann scream like that?Did she commit suicide?Or was it revenge?

This is the basic premise, though by chapter two, you know what's going on.The book isn't about the question of why Ann did what she did. It's about a friendship gone wrong. It's about grief. It's about loss. It's about revenge. But mainly it's about obsession and how it destroys.

This book is a bit of a retread of Gimme a Kiss. That being said, I think it's a good story in its own right.I think Pike took the basic premise of GAK and improved on it.
There might be parts of the story that strain at credibility, but nothing that would really take away from the pleasure of reading it.

As for the characters, I did feel invested in them.Sharon had a lot of personality.I also enjoyed reading Ann's point of view.Ann is a bitter, nasty person but I really felt for her.She seemed so lonely and I felt so sorry for her.She was a more sympathetic character than Jane in Gimme a Kiss.
The bottom line is that it's a good read if you're 13 and into these kinds of books.

The one thing I felt was lacking was more depth in regards to some of the major characters.I felt like I never got a sense of who Jerry was when he was alive.Well, not enough of a sense of him.I didn't really know much about what his relationship was like with Ann before he died, and therefore, whether or not she blamed herself for his death.Even though he wasn't technically in the book, his was a constant presence. So I wanted to know more about him. That's about all I can think of.

Through seven painful trials, Ali reclaimed many of her magical powers and defeated an elemental army that was preparing to attack the Earth. In the elemental world, Ali learned the true nature of her greatest enemy -- the Shaktra -- and discovered why it covets the Yanti, a mystical talisman of immense power that Ali now possesses.
Now, in The Yanti, Ali discovers that a mysterious Entity is masterminding the Shaktra's attack on Earth, an attack that will kill billions and leave both Earth and the elemental world shattered. Still reeling from the death of one of her closest friends, Ali finds herself accused of murder on Earth and besieged by enemies in the elemental world.
The Shaktra has had years to develop her magical abilities and her evil plots, guided by the otherworldly Entity. Ali has only known about her fairy powers for a month. There are holes in her fairy memories and her powers are still incomplete, while the Shaktra commands vast armies of hideous monsters and rules over hosts of dragons.
Ali's allies are few: one dragon, one leprechaun, a single troll, a handful of fairies and an African boy, Ra, who has sworn to serve Ali even beyond death. Plus the mysterious disembodied Nemi -- whose love sustains Ali through her darkest moments of despair.
Only the Yanti can stop what is to come. Unfortunately, Ali has barely had a chance to study it. The first time she tries to use it as a weapon, it nearly kills her. Unless Ali Warner can solve the riddle of the Yanti Â- and the mystery behind the Shaktra's insane bitterness -- then the Earth and the elemental world will be doomed.

4-0 out of 5 stars This is not the end!?!?! (yay)
The third book in the Alosha series deals with what I had thought would be the final battle against the Shaktra. Come to find out, there's a fourth book that's not yet in print (even though this one was published in '06). That was disappointing, as the tale is not yet wrapped up.
Besides that, however, this volume of the series was excellent. More information about the Shaktra (and the Shaktra's superior) is revealed, and the story is advanced. Also, this is a happier book than either of the first two.

3-0 out of 5 stars The Yanti: Mediocre
Title: The Yanti by Christopher Pike

Pages: 398

Time spent on the "to read" shelf: 2 years.

Days spent reading it: 3 days.

Why I read it: I thought it was the final book in a trilogy. Turns out it is the third book in a series. Oh well.

Brief review: After a strong second book in the series, I was hoping for a solid third book. Instead it was a mediocre book, in the sense of not horrible, but not great either. The Yanti was an alright book, but it definitely was not as good as its predecessor.

The Yanti continues the story of Ali Warner as she battles the evil Shaktra that is attempting to destroy the world. My biggest gripe about this particular book is that the plot turned from interesting to lame in one fell swoop. The ultimate enemy is revealed and its honestly a little disappointing. "The Entity" is a conquering race that is without love. They are powerful but have no morals. And they are behind what's going on in the world of Ali Warner.

This book also became hazy in who or what the characters are. Pike is clearly attempting to appeal to a strange mysticism based in Buddhist, perhaps some Hindu, and New Age thinking. And he's also not so subtle with his environmental concerns. All of this makes a muddled novel that is not as clear or as fun as The Shaktra was. And Pike continues to use the annoying method of showing that some characters understand what is happening while refusing to tell the readers (or other main characters) what the heck is going on. Each question is pushed off for later. Nagging suspicions and moments of insight are alluded to, but not explained. I felt like Pike was writing to a 5 year old...This is important little boy, but I'm not going to tell you why just yet! JUST TELL ME YOU JERK!

Well, that about sums up The Yanti from my point of view. There is another book slotted to come out in this series, but given its up and down quality, I'll probably pass. And I would probably recommend passing on this series. Its alright for a little bit, but not worth the overall investment in my opinion.

Favorite quote: (Not my favorite quote, actually, I probably could not disagree with it more, but it is most revealing about Pike's own beliefs I think)

"On Earth, each of your religions teaches that their holy books are the final word of God. In their minds, the truth is set in stone, and that makes most of your people comfortable. They can point to a source of inspiration and say to themselves, there, in that book, is the supreme truth."
"I prefer a set truth," Ra admitted.
"Well, you're an elf," Geea said. "Fairies prefer to see truth as fluid--more like a river that flows along twisting bends. We see truth as too sacred to define. It's one way today, different tomorrow."

Stars: 2.5 out of 5

Final Word: Mediocre.

The book came in wonderful condition. Brand NEW!!!! My Granddaughter loves the series, and was delighted to get it. Kudo's for such a wonderful book and such fast delivery!!

5-0 out of 5 stars A surprising look into the depths of perception and philosophy
This series begins with a promising young adult novel and evolves into an increasingly complex, philosophical and perceptive adult-level series. By the third book in this ongoing series, one feels that as the characters harden and mature into wise protagonists and complex antagonists, we understand along with them the knowledge that good and evil is only a matter of perspective. But, the novel begs the question; does the end justify the means? Both "good" and "evil" characters have decisions to make, and carefully laid plans to initiate and undertake. Only the author knows how far either side will go to win the ultimate battle for the fate of two increasingly dangerous dimensions. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The book that hooked me on reading
I read this book when it was new and I was 8 years old. After reading it I continued to read books by Christopher Pike through my teen years. I am now tring to hunt down all those great titles so my daughter will enjoy reading as much as I did/do.

5-0 out of 5 stars Couldn't put it down!
This book is really awesome and I would reccomend it to anyone, because it's very exciting and quite creepy. Out of all the books I have read, I will never forget this one. You are constantly trying to figure out what the mystery is to it, therefore you HAVE to keep reading it. I highly suggest that you read it!

3-0 out of 5 stars Decent exercise in young adult whodunitism
If you're looking for a good, swift read to take you through a cozy night by the fire, you could do a lot worse than to pick up Slumber Party, which is about a gaggle of high school girls who are snowbound in a luxurious winter resort. And oh, it seems that one of them is a murderess.

Pike does a good job in this one, sticking to his by-the-numbers formula involving attractive teens, plot twists designed to throw suspicion on everyone but the murderer, and a paranoid feeling that the muderer walks among us.

It may not be original, especially when measured against Pike's other books from the same period, but at least he does it well, moving us from point A to point B without a pause to catch our breaths.

Young adults will like the way that this novel has been tailored to suit their culture (pop culture, that is), and while it may not educate anyone about the real world, it's a pleasant diversion. And hey, you're reading, so that's good.

5-0 out of 5 stars "It was eight years later, and it was happening again...."
In "Slumber Party," 17-year-old Lara Johnson (the protagonist) and her five girl friends (Celeste Winston, Dana Miller, Rachael Grayson, Nell Kutroff, and Mindy Casey) travel to Cedar Stream, California, for a weekend ski trip. Shortly after they arrive, strange and dangerous things start to occur: a snowman mysteriously melts; Dana goes missing, leaving unusual ski tracks in the snow--both events leading Lara to a "supernatural hypothesis"--and then Mindy's arm gets seriously burned in the fireplace. What it all leads back to is a fiery slumber party eight years ago when one of them was disfigured and her sister died. And someone wants to make sure they never forget it.

"Slumber Party" wasn't quite as engaging as some of Pike's later books (I think this is his first published book under this pseudonym), but it was still a fast-paced mind twister, with a little bit of romance thrown in between Lara and a 22-year-old guy (Percy Chand) she meets at the lodge. It vaguely reminded me of "Weekend" (the book published just after this one), because of its conspiratorial vacation setup; though instead of heading South, this one heads for the slopes. If you've read "Weekend," then you may be able to uncover the mystery in "Slumber Party" a little quicker. This is certainly worth picking up if you're a Pike fan and/or like teen suspense.

4-0 out of 5 stars The First Book
This was pikes first book. i found it fairly good. the plot was good and (kind of) kept u hooked. it kind of would of been better if it was supernatural like how the characters though. More mystery than horror/thriller. Ive been reding pike since i was 10. He is WAY better then rl stine. stine repeats him self WAY too much.

5-0 out of 5 stars Sita is not afraid of blood, she is afraid of is what it can do.
Follow the further adventures of Sita the oldest vampire on the planet.

After breaking a promise and making her partner a vampire, Sita and Ray try to live a somewhat normal life. Until they hear of some murders in LA.

It seems that someone is killing people an terrible ways. Dismamberment, limbs torn off, and in some cases even drained comepletly of blood. In otherwords the killer is making it look as if another vampire is loose on the world.

Did Sita succeed in destroying her maker or is he alive and finding ways of making her pay?

Is this some new sort of vampire? If so, from whence did it come?

Can it be stopped before the world knows about vampires?

To find out you will have to read this book.

I especially liked...

How the book explained they new vampire. Normaly the peson is a real creep, but with superpowers he is even more of a menace. Quite scary acually.

When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...

Everyone says that they read it again. Not me I went out dressed in black looking for vampire victims......J/K

The author of this Book...

Christopher Pike

He has written a whole slew of teen thriller novels and this is one of his best ones.

I recommend this Book because...

It is packed full of action and vampires and a real cool way in which to make them.

I loved the first book in the series. This may better then the 1st book if possible

I don't recommend this Book because...

There is nothing about this book that I do not recomend.

Further Comments...

The beginning starts with Sita stating that she is not afraid of blood. What she is afraid of is what it can do.

5-0 out of 5 stars best book I have read
I relly do not like reading but this book got my attention because it is trilling I think it is thrilling besause the vampires are relly strong, fast, smart, and they can hear and see relly good beter the any thing.

3-0 out of 5 stars Slightly Better Than The First Book
Ray is adjusting to being a vampire. He is depressed about having to sever contact with his family and friends, and appalled at having to drink human blood. But Ray doesn't have too much time to figure things out. There has been a series of brutal murders in LA.Sita knows a vampire is responsible.
Sita and Ray are going to LA to investigate and look for the one who is creating vampires. The First Vampire, Yaksha, is supposed to be dead.Even if he survived the explosion at Sita's home, he swore a vow to God not to create any more vampires, and to destroy all other vampires.Sita has not made any more.So who is making the vampires?

A new character comes in: FBI agent Joel Gray.In charge of the murder investigation, he zeroes in on Alisa. Will she have to kill this well-meaning man if he gets to close to the truth?

This story is a better read than the first one in the series.A lot more action for one thing, a compelling enemy, and less of Sita musing on what a hottie she is.Pikes writing is a little better.Still, Pike throws in gems like "I like horny men.I feel they are true to their nature."Riiiiight.

4-0 out of 5 stars Love it
Absolutely love this book, and the entire "The Last Vampire" series in general.Following Sita's journey is an exciting and wonderful adventure, and this book is no exception.Sita is 5,000 years old and thought all vampires (aside from herself and her lover Ray) were gone, until a series of unusal murders force her to realize she was mistaken. She must meet this new foe, destroy him, and try to do so without destroying herself.A great (and quick) read.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good book.
This book is great. It's a nice sequel to #1, though it does become boring in some points.. There's small sub-stories that get told inside by the characters that dont really seem like they need to be there, but nonetheless, they add to the overall effectiveness of the plot.

I read this whole book last night. I just couldn't put it down! It was about a 3 1/2 hour read without too many breaks.. I found it took me 4 chapters to realize i had to go to the restroom and to actually get up to go.

The bad guy's mother is a bit off her rocker, being as old as she is.. Really sick minded, its no wonder that the boy turned out the way he was.

Anyway, it was a good book and i just couldnt put it down. I reccommend this read to anyone who is a fan of Christopher Pike. :) ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars The Last Vampire #5: Evil Thirst
The Last Vampire #5: Evil Thirst, by Christopher Pike

Back to her vampire self, in "Evil Thirst" Sita faces a difficult decision. She either has to destroy her daughter, Kalika, or give up a precious child, John, who may be the savior of the human race.

Kalika's actions in the previous novel, "Phantom," cast her as the avatar of an evil goddess, but as Sita ponders her daughter's behavior, she wonders if she can redeem her. Or is she wrong, and Kalika is right? It's a difficult situation for her, a vampire who believes in love and redemption. Can a mother's love overcome a child's evil?

Pike experiments further with New Age ideas as he transposes Sita's past in ancient Egypt with the oracle Suzama against her modern conundrum. The baby John, born to her friend after a mystery conception, is rumored to be the reincarnation of Krishna and Jesus, by a scripture written by Suzama. This may sound a bit out there, but Pike weaves a skillful and fast paced tale with all these varied pieces falling neatly into place.

I think it is best to read the last three books of The Last Vampire series in a row, and not look at them as separate books, to get the full effect.

4/5.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Last Vampire's love and pride
Alisa's daughter, Kalika - a bloodthirsty monster is gone. It is Alisa's task to track her down and destroy her. However, Alisa still believes that her daughter is not the monster she can be. She still hopes to save her daughter's life and perhaps the lives of everyone.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great twist!!
Oh my God!!! The twists in this book were amazing. I found myself screaming in excitment while reading this. It was so great... just like all the rest of them. This one made me cry at the end:(( I highly recommend the series!

5-0 out of 5 stars LOVED IT!
In fact I LOVED the entire series!I think I read every book over at LEAST 4 times!I especially loved the character Kalika, loved the way he described her, loved her fathomlessness... I feel speechless right now, I don't even know what I say! That's how good it is... The book is religious, yet not so seriously so that you will punished if you do not agree or w/e, but simply, you'll be sucked so deep into the book you might even smart believing Sita's believes...

5-0 out of 5 stars i love it!
i read this book in year 7 this year and it is soooo cool! It is full of action as well as sad and happy emotions combined excellently. i think everyone should read it even people who don't read much will love this book. It is one of the best book i have ever read in my life!!! ... Read more

She soon realizes where she lives, where she goes to work and school and the boys in her life. She also realizes that the body was her best friend. Now Jenny tries to read Crystal's diary and find out who the killer is.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the Best Pike Novels I Have Read
Christopher Pike is a very good writer of teen Horror/Thriller/Mystery/Fantasy.Lost Mind stands out as a book that also tackles metaphysical questions. In an very original novel, Pike deeply explores the mysticism of the soul.

The story is about a teen girl named Jen.She wakes up in the woods next to the dead body of a girl who has been stabbed to death.Fearing she could be the killer's next target, Jen flees - but instead of finding answers, she is confronted with question after question about herself and her life. You see, Jen has amnesia - her only immediate clue her driver's license. When she discovers that the murdered girl was actually her best friend Crystal, and that she is now a prime suspect, she is in a race against time to find the real killer.

This is a must-read for Pike fans.

4-0 out of 5 stars Interesting, thrilling ending
Ok this book was ok but the ending was sad and depressing. It sucked. The whole story was really good and very thrilling. But the ending was a drag because the main character didn't live the way she wanted to.

Everyone who is looking up this book has already seen the other reviews so they know what the book's about therefore I'm not going to waste my time explaining it.

P.S I can't believe she cheated on her bestfriend's boyfriend! Jeez!!

3-0 out of 5 stars The Lost Mind: A Creepy Treat!
What would you do if you woke up next to a corpse, the murder weapon in your hand? What if you couldn't remember how you got there, who she was--who you were? What if all the evidence pointed to you being the killer? These are some of the first emotions explored by Jennifer Hobbs as she stands, covered in blood, next to the body of Crystal Denger.

Jenny doesn't remember a lot of things--her name, how she came to be in the woods, that the murdered girl happens to be her best and closest friend. She is, however, both quick-witted and clever. Fearing the worse, and having no memory to go on, she stumbles from the woods--and finds a parked car. Is she running from danger or towards it? One thing is for certain: she is at the scene of a murder. If Jennifer has any chance of finding out what happened to her--she needs to buy some time.

Jenny does a near expert job of removing the evidence of her involvement: the murder weapon, the bloody clothes. The only clue to her identity is a driver's license and the keys in her pocket. The town nearby is her home, and her address is easy enough to find. As to not arouse suspicion, she must behave as though everything is normal... while at the same time trying to solve the crime. But how do you do that when you can't even remember your own mother's face? Who your friends and enemies are? Where you were the night your best friend was murdered?

That, it seems, is the only thing Jennifer Hobbs does know.

This book had an excellent beginning--a very imaginative concept! It had me guessing all over the place. I think Mr. Pike handled the subject well, and convincingly! Jenny is a likeable character, and you genuinely want to see her prevail. Her turmoil is palpable. Of course, with conflicting stories and no recollection of her whereabouts the previous night--Jennifer becomes the main suspect in Crystal's death.

How can you prove your innocence when you think you might be guilty? How can you tell the truth from lies if you can't remember who knows how much--who else is involved? Again--excellent concept. I loved it, and devoured the book in almost one sitting. It reminded me of the same frantic pace set in the film "Memento" starring Guy Pierce. (Wonderfully creative film! Definitely rent it if you liked this book.) However, it wasn't perfect.

While I did enjoy most of the characters--especially the relationship between Jenny and her kid brother, Gator--I found some to be almost unnecessary. Perhaps if they had been given a chance to develop more, I would not have thought so. The timing of the book is very punchy. It doesn't stop to take a breath--even when you would like it to.

If this book suffered from anything, it was that it could have easily been a couple hundred pages longer. It touched on a few topics that were very interesting, but not explained clearly. Soul reversal, mysticism, tarot and even Islam were all part of the story--but I found myself more interested in the actual murder investigation than any of its supernatural aspects. In a way, when all was revealed, I was almost let down with the simplicity of it.

Almost. Some colorful jacket art is provided by Mark Garro, which gives the book a creepy feel. And it is a creepy story! On a whole, "The Lost Mind" was a very enjoyable and fast-paced book, full of shocking events and constant second-guessing. It's as fun as it is strange, with some truly disturbing imagery... expertly crafted by the Lord God of Teen Horror himself--Mr. Christopher Pike.

3-0 out of 5 stars Is She A Murderer?
She woke up in the middle of the woods. It was very late at night. What was she doing there? Who was she? What had happened? And why was there a dead girl beside her? She could not remember. Not a thing. Had she killed that girl? Little by little, she got home. She was the only suspect of killing Crystal, her best friend. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Remember Me ????
I have read all the books in this series as well as most of chris pike's work . In any or all of his writing format he ends on sad notes. Very few of his main character live til' the end. In all the books. I have read about two have ended on happy endings. But few have after effects that effects the total out come of all for the main character and the supporting cast. But if you read carefully you can catch tib bits of other books with the remember me series. I fell in love with Peter and Sheri. Their relationship was never ment to happen. But fate happened to kick in and put them in the right place at the right time. After I read this book i found out what took sheri's life, It was brain tumor by reasonable elementation. It was something that would have taken her life quicker if she had know but her life was to bussy to see a doctor. I thaink that if she had went when she started realizing something was wrong that the book would have been a lot better.

4-0 out of 5 stars I want a continuation!
I re-read the whole trilogy a few days ago. I cannot get over the fact that Shari had to die again so soon! I wish Pike would write another story of Shari and Peter one more time. I want them to get together soon, as physical or non-physical beings.

3-0 out of 5 stars It was a good book, I guess
I am a big fan of Christopher Pike, afterall I have read a lot of his books (enough to predict almost everything that is going to happen), but I have to say this was not one of his better books. I have to say though the climax of this book was great! It was so suspeseful and sad at the same time. Haven't seen such a great climax from Christopher Pike since Final Friends: The Graduation. This book was overall good except for the fact that Peter can finally walk and Shari dies! The other thing I found extremely boring was the "Starlight Crystal." Like said before I almost just skipped this part. I mean this didn't have any point at all in this book. Pike did a great Job with the characters in this series though! I guess you could say not his best work, but a good book to read.

5-0 out of 5 stars So sad
I cried when Shari died (again!) but at least she saw her mother one last time before she did. Also, she got to do what she was sent back to do. But it kinda sucked that she was in a body that probably wouldn't have lasted long. Everyone should read the Remember Me series.

3-0 out of 5 stars My opinion of the trilogy
I obviously liked the first book better because you are just getting to know the characters and the whole mystery thing was very interesting and full of suspense. But the 2nd one was a little boring I must say, nothing interesting did happen and the 3rd one is a little better.
I was disappointed about the ending where Shari dies but if you have read the book carefully, there were clues that she was meant to die. How she often have headaches and the yogi said for her not to worry about it and her purpose of returning back to Earth was to write stories. I believe that Pike made Shari died in the end is because that she did what she couldn't do when she was alive. How she wanted to do something meaningful in life and now she did and it was time for her to go and move on. And she is separated from Jimmy and Peter again but only this time, they know that they will see her again and like what Shari said, death doesn't exist. She is very much alive, at least in the memories of those who once knew her. ... Read more

It is an offer she gladly accepts. Then she is back, in a human body. Yet she does not remember being Shari Cooper. At first she recalls nothing of the afterlife. Perhaps it is just as well. 5-0 out of 5 stars a beautiful love story
I love Christopher Pikes books. This book is on my top list of favorite stories of his, as is the Starlight Crystal. The Tachyon Web is about a group of teenagers from Earth who set out on an adventure to blast beyond the 'Tachyon Web', which is a sort of wall created by the galaxy government to keep people inside it's boundaries. The protaganist of the story doesn't really want to go, but is talked into it by his smooth talking friend. He is also badly needed because of his genius and knowledge about spacecraft.Well, they blast beyond the Web and discover an Alien ship.Their own spaceship is badly in ruins and they are unable to get back without a sort of coolant. So they plan to enter the Alien vessel and steal what they need in order to get back to Earth. What they discover is a peculiar group of nice Aliens and secrets about their own government. This is a great read and hard to put down!(as are most of his books).I am in my later 20s and I read it, and although it's geared to the young adult genre, it is a fun story to read for an adult.Check it out!

5-0 out of 5 stars My Favorite Pike Peice
Of all his independent works (Barring his series aside) the Tachyon Web was by far the most intriguing and the best of his genre. Just when you figure out what is going on, he throws you through a loop in Pike fashion. For those that adore this author as much as I, this is a definite must-read.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Brilliant, Touching Adventure
I read this book in one day, and thought it flawless.I've read and loved Christopher Pike's books since the late 1980's, but had never gotten to The Tachyon Web for some reason.I think it's important that you be a fan of science fiction, although as usual Pike blends in deeper, more symbolic (and sociological) elements that transcend such labeling of genre if you so wish to read between the lines.I definitely noted the influence of other science fiction writers, but simultaneously perceived a very unique storyline.I especially liked the way Pike went against the grain of the usual sci-fi fare by portraying the alien civilization as weaker and less technologically advanced than ourselves. I was impressed to find out that this was one of his first published works, if not the first. In sum, The Tachyon Web is a quick, light, yet meaningful read that I highly recommend.

4-0 out of 5 stars One of Pike's better books
I've read a good number of Pike's books, and I think this is one of his better ones. Most of his other books deal with life, afterlife and undead life down here on the ground, so it was nice
to take a trip outside the atmosphere. The mood-clothes were a nice touch. Yup, Tachyon Web is one of my favorites from Pike, along with the Final Friends trilogy.

5-0 out of 5 stars My favourite!
I have read over 70 books by Christopher Pike, and this one is the best. Christopher Pike has outdone himself. Trust me, this is an excellent read(despite what a few readers might think). Don't listen to anyone who says this book is trash - i've read them all, and you can believe me when i say this one is better than the rest(except maybe for the Last Vampire series). The characters are well developed, and it brought tears to my eyes(i'm not usually emotional) near the end when...nevermind,i don't want to spoil it for you. Let's just say it's a great novel, one that i'll always treasure. I couldn't ask for anything better. Congratulations to Mr.Pike on another masterpiece! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars An original twist on an old plot
When the residents of a small town in Nevada start behaving strangely, after a group of teenagers stumble across a mysterious black liquid in the bottom of an old mine, 17 year old Cass starts to suspect that her neighbours may, in fact, be possessed by aliens bent on world domination.

I am 28 years old and, even though I am well out of the supposed target age group for Christopher Pike's books, I still find myself coming back to them again and again. To date, I have read around 30 of his books and own all of them. The reason why I keep coming back to Pike's books, and not those of fellow teen horror writer R.L. Stine, for example, is because Pike treats his audience and his teenage characters as intelligent adults. In "Hollow Skull", as in Pike's other books, Pike provides readers with an action driven plot reminiscent of a Hollywood horror movie, only deeper and better thought out. Admittedly "Hollow Skull" is somewhat derivative of "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" (even Pike seems to acknowledge this), but Pike supplies a back story to this familiar plot that makes this story an original work in its own right.

This is not my favourite of Pike's novels, but it did keep me entertained for the week that I was reading it and by the end of that week I was genuinely hooked. Both new Pike readers and fans of Pike's other works should enjoy this book.

1-0 out of 5 stars The Hollow Writer
This is not only the worst Chrisopher Pike book I've ever read, but one of the worst books I've ever read, period. If you enjoyed this you must not have read a lot of his books before, because this book rips off of just about every single one of them.Teens trapped in a small desert town?Check.(See "Whisper of Death")Unrealistic confrontation with the military?Check.(See "The Last Vampire 3: Red Dice")A possessed boy killing his girlfriend way out in the desert?Check.(See "Chain Letter 2: The Ancient Evil")Tiny alien beings from billions of years ago who enter the bodies of teens vialiquid and turn them into something non-human, then spread?Check.(See "Monster")An all-powerful female who created the race she later destroys?Check.(See "The Starlight Crystal")

Pike must have needed a quick check from his publisher because he obviously reeled this one off in a hurry. In fact it's more like he excreted it from . . . well, you see where I'm going with this. This book is just simply a piece of ****.

It's so badly written that the editors obviously got tired of reading it too, because there are formatting mistakes in the latter half of the book.As for me, I had to keep starting and stopping because it was so bad that at times I wanted to throw it across the room, or pour water all over it.I might have done, if it wasn't a library book.In fact, I'm still not sure why I bothered finishing it at all. This half-baked book is an insult to Pike's readers and a waste of their time.DON'T READ IT!!!

You have been warned.

1-0 out of 5 stars It ate my mind. It ate my brain.
My boyfriend bought this book as a joke from the Dollar Tree. We were laughing in the store at the pathetic opening lines. Anyone who reads this book and takes it seriously without laughing out loud at its poorly, and ridiculously, constructed prose is a moron. For example, "Fred able was her main squeeze, better than fresh orange juidce in the morning, more an extra-large cappuccino late at night." Are you kidding me? I realize that these are teen books, but does that mean the writing must be boarderline retarded? The book is full of disconnected imagery and half-baked ideas. "He had a great toothy smile that made him look gentle and clever at the same time." Huh?

But, if you seriously liked this book, then I envy you. Because any peice of crap will seem like a hemmingway. Your dim mind must be in a whirl of entertainment and satisfaction. Lucky you.

4-0 out of 5 stars The Hollow skull
In The Hollow Skull, Christopher Pike writes about a lot of interesting and exciting things, which made me want to keep reading. There's an old abandoned mine which only scientists have been down into for about twenty years. Then one day, two teenage couples decide that they want to go down into the mine and explore. While in the cave something happens, and it changes everyone's lives in the nearby little town. Pike gives so much detail that when he ends a chapter, it starts getting better and you feel like you need to keep reading.
It's exciting because Pike, throughout the book, adds something surprising that I wouldn't have expected, especially the ending. I loved this book, because Pike ends the chapter when it's getting better, and that's what made me want to keep reading. ... Read more
