great book, its more then just a book about money... teaches you why the world works.. and how people take your money and bet with it.. and if you know wut ur doin u can be rich

4-0 out of 5 stars Handy Little Book
Although this isn't the largest book in the world, I really enjoyed reading it.I thought that I was pretty savvy as far as the way things worked, but this book definitely enlightened me.I also appreciated the pictures that made things clearer.

4-0 out of 5 stars A little bit tough to read, but worth it.
If you're a beginner, interested in investing, this is a very decent primer to start with.Buy it with Eric Tyson's Investing for Dummies, and you'll be fully set!

4-0 out of 5 stars To get the whole picture
I think this book did a great job in helping me understand the universe of money and investing beyong the scope of stock. I have been trading for 1 year and wanted to buy a small book that gave me a general education on the subject. Although much more can be written on each topic covered it is good for beginning to understand the whole picture.

3-0 out of 5 stars 82%
Most of the book is a great intro to money, stocks, bonds and mutual funds. But the last section, on Futures & Options, seems really rushed and lacks the clarity of the earlier sections (especially the material on options). For example, the authors do not define "calling" or "putting" options; and there is a blatant error on page 150 wherein a description of an option table is laughably out of sync with the table it is trying to describe.

Overall, the book is very good -- just beware of the shortcomings of its last section. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars a must-have
This is probably the best encyclopedic resource for how various investments work and a thorough explanation of all money and investing terms. If you already know a lot about the subject, you may not need it.But for people like me, who are not familiar with the world of investment and banking, this book is the easiest way to understanding. It is well organized and gives information with as few words as possible while still informing. If you are looking for help with investment strategies, you will need other books, but this one does what it intends to do for the financially illiterate like I was.

3-0 out of 5 stars Too long to receive
I ordered 4 books at the same time on the same day, this one took 2 weeks longer than the other ones! The book is fine, but the shipping was horrible, i had to cancel one of my online classes because of the tardiness. It didn't just take two weeks to arrive, but was 2 weeks longer than any of the other books i ordered for the class. It took way too long to arrive.

4-0 out of 5 stars A good beginners book
This is a good beginners book as an introduction to investing. However, if you already have a background knowledge, some of the details in the book may seem like a repetition.

All in all, I would recommend this book for anyone that wants to gain knowledge about money and how it works.

4-0 out of 5 stars Concise and thick with basic information
The illustrated layout of S&P's Guide to Money and Investing is engaging and useful as an educational tool as well. The colorful layout makes the information, at least for me, easier to divide and digest. This book is filled with information along the lines of a general education in investing and what exactly makes Wall Street tick. Don't look for financial advice or any big scoops here.

Pluses:
-Clear with definitions and descriptions of financial concepts
-Colorful layout helps
-Serves as a general education on what different investments there are and how they work. You'll probably learn more here than in a years worth of financial magazines.
-Acts as good reference.

Possible minuses:
-A lot of info at a quick pace. You may have to read it more than once.
-You won't find any advice for an investment strategy. Look elsewhere if that's what you need.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Book For Success
Excellent book to learn financial investment guidelines. Anyone should understand the basics shown here. Highly recommended. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Outdated Facts and Perspective on Financial Markets
This classic of basic definitions has a new edition that came out in 1999.Although I have not yet read that one, I do suggest that you skip this one.

The book is filled with discussions of how investors value stocks that few serious investors would recognize. There is almost nothing aboutinvesting outside the United States.NASDAQ gets almost no mention.Theinformation about discount brokers is wrong. The terminology fordescribing many types of stocks was never correct, as best as I can recall.

The facts that are correct relate mostly to trivia, like what thenumber on a stock certificate means. It could help you answer a questionon Do You Want To Be a Millionaire? but has little other practical use. Many of these facts (such as how to read the stock tables) can be garneredby simply reading the footnotes in The Wall Street Journal orBarron's.

This book is a good example of the communication stall.Wetend to believe everything that we read from what should be reliablesources, even when the information is often faulty.
