4-0 out of 5 stars The best bad poet in the English language!
McGonagall was a 19th century Scottish poet,
Who had no talent, only he didn't know it.
He wrote several volumes of terrible verse
That read like this one, only much worse.
Like whiskey, his works are best in moderation to take,
For too much at once will cause a great headache.
But if you delight in reading verse that is awful,
Then by all means peruse this book by McGonagall. ... Read more

Excerpt: George Galloway (born 16 August 1954) is a British politician, author and broadcaster who was a Member of Parliament from 1987 to 2010. He is known for his anti-war views. He was formerly a Labour MP, first for Glasgow Hillhead, and later for Glasgow Kelvin, before his expulsion from the party in October 2003, and subsequently becoming a founding member of the Respect Party. Galloway represented Bethnal Green and Bow in the 2005 parliament. In the 2010 election, Galloway unsuccessfully contested the parliamentary seat of Poplar and Limehouse. Galloway is also known for his vigorous campaigns in favour of the Palestinians in the Arab-Israeli conflict. He attempted to both overturn economic sanctions against Iraq in the 1990s and early 2000s, and to avert the 2003 invasion. Read more

Excerpt: Thomas M'Crie (November 1772 August 5, 1835) was a Scottish historian, writer, and preacher born in the town of Duns in November 1772. He was the eldest of a family of four sons and three daughters. His father was a manufacturer and merchant of Dunse, and lived to witness the literary celebrity of his son, as his death did not occur until 1828. Thomas M'Crie was born and nursed in the class of Secession called "Anti-burghers" during the time when it still retained much of the primitive earnestness and simplicity of the old days of the covenant. Upon being sent to the parish school, young M'Crie soon became not only an apt scholar, but distinguished for applying the habits of hard work in which he would later employ in his historical and antiquarian research. This progress, however, was somewhat alarming to his cautious father, who saw no reason for impoverishing a whole family to make his first-born a finished scholar. Had these paternal purposes been carried out, perhaps the future biographer of John Knox and Andrew Melville would have become nothing better than a thriving Berwickshire store-keeper, or a prosperous mercantile adventurer in London. Excerpt: William Topaz McGonagall (March 1825 29 September 1902) was a Scottish weaver, actor, amateur poet, and performance artist. His performance art centered on his own belief that his verse showed a high degree of verbal skill and talent. Groups throughout Scotland engaged him to make recitations from his works; these performances drew large audiences which responded enthusiastically to McGonagall's poetic lines. Contemporary descriptions of these performances indicate that many of these listeners were appreciating McGonagall's skill as a comic music hall character. Collections of his verse continue in popularity, with several volumes available today. Although both born and dying in Greyfriars Parish, Edinburgh he is almost solely linked to Dundee. He was born to Irish parents in Edinburgh, but later McGonagall moved north, and was working as a handloom weaver in Dundee, Scotland when an event occurred that changed his life. As he was to write: He wrote his first poem An Address to the Rev. George Gilfillan, which showed the hallmarks that would characterise his later work. Gilfillan commented, "Shakespeare never wrote anything like this." McGonagall has been acclaimed as the worst poet in British history. The chief criticisms of his poetry are that he is deaf to poetic metaphor and unable to scan correctly. In the hands of lesser artists, this might generate merely dull, uninspiring verse. However, McGonagall's fame stems from the humorous effects these shortcomings generate. The inappropriate rhythms, weak vocabulary, and il...More: http://booksllc.net/?id=33612 ... Read more
