a really good yarn
A friend recommended the book and i bought it on a lark.The book had great characters that you could truely visualize.Really life like characters with quirks and personalities.Dialog sounded like real people taking - especially the way different characters spoke.Very entertaining and worth the price of admission.

Grand read. I like having solid characters, to follow along. I could put a face with a name, in my mind's eye. Thinking I would like this in the fall or winter months as well, more time keep reading. Enjoyable read that did not treat me as over or under educated. Looking forward to more along this same format.

Powerful and hard to put down read!
Empire's Sword is an incredible in depth look on the battle and guild ways of a single planet in a massive galaxy.The place where this book really shines is the character depth.The author manages to not only make you understand the characters, he also manages to humanize them without being long winded (see Tolkien).These incredible Guildsmen (and women as you will find) are extraordinary and caught in world changing events that are massive in scope.This book is wonderful and sets the stage for many more book in this magnificient universe.Very well thought out and written in plain speech as one would actually speek it, this book is very hard to put down.I recommend this to any fantasy fan and if your not one, this will change your mind.

Fabulous Historical Perspective Taken on A Sci-Fi Journey
Empire's Sword was a great read.I read it cover to cover, really entertaining and tough to put down.

A garden of earthly delights.
A wonderfully perverse book on gardening, focusing on the more fecund aspects of horticulture.Not quite sure if Lucan and Gray are fictitious or real, but it doesn't really matter, as this book abounds in allegorical delights, as the two attempt to design a garden in the decadent spirits of the past on a large English estate.

What follows is a free flow of thought on gardening down through the ages, with a special attention to the more perverse aspects. One is guided through various stages of development, focusing on love, torture, death, wisdom, etc.One wishes there were more photographs and drawings, but the authors kept that to a minimum.The imagination still stirs in reading these accounts of a garden in progress, until the parish priest closes down the whole affair after the staging of a ribald play.

This book is as much a novel as it is a book on gardening, carried by the delightful personalities of Lucan and Gray. It is guaranteed to stimulate your creative drive. ... Read more
