Monsters of the Deep...For Younger Readers!
For centuries, legends and myths have circulated about terrifying creatures lurking in the depths of the oceans or inland lakes. Many of those "wee beasties" have been chronicled in literature, movies or TV shows. Stephen Krensky provides an informative look at CREATURES FROM THE DEEP in this 2008 Lerner Publishing release, part of their "Monster Chronicles" series.

In 48 pages, Krensky examines What Hides in the Oceans, Fish Tales, Real Sea Monsters and Creatures that Live Forever. He discusses legends such as the Leviathan, the Kraken, Scylla and Charybdis, the Makara, mermaids, Nessie and other sea creatures and proposes possible real-life sea creatures like whales, manatees, giant squids, oarfish and coelacanths that might "fill the bill." And he takes an affectionate look at the monsters that have surfaced in novels like MOBY DICK and movies like 20,000 LEAGUES UNDER THE SEA, ANACONDA, CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON, etc.

Kids' or young adult book about zombies in various cultures.
This is a cursory cross-cultural analysis of the depiction of zombies or the undead in various cultures.

The book itself is illustrated and in full color. It is suitable for kids and young adults. It's in no way "comprehensive," but gives examples of how zombies are perceived or how they're used in the stories of various cultures with varying examples from around the world. IT also delineates between, say "voodoo" zombies and other forms of the risen dead (or undead).

Kids or young adult book about the bogeyman in various cultures.
This book is geared toward kids or young adults. It's a short full-color, illustrated book of about 40 or so pages. It explores the notion of the bogeyman and his role in the folk beliefs of various cultures.

While it's in no way "comprehensive" or "academic"/"rigorous," it seems to be based upon actual folks tales from the various regions it addresses. It also seeks to detail the common exploits of the bogeyman in those cultures.

In all, it was a pretty entertaining read, even for this adult.

If you're looking for something a kid might enjoy, this is a good read. If you're looking for something more academic, you might try No Go, the Bogeyman: Scaring, Lulling, and Making Mock, which is a rather academic and dense study of the bogeyman type character in various cultures, as well as the significance and how such figures are used i said cultures. ... Beautiful Illustrations And A Fun Fantasy

This is a beautiful picture book, the illustrations are so rich, my kids and I love them.

The story is about a brother and sister who fly to the moon in the Crimson Comet a rocket ship the brother has made.It's a fun story.

It reminds me of Jimmy Zangwow's Out of This World Moon Pie Adventure by Tony DiTerlizzi.If you like this you might like that as well.

Not a very good example
I was disappointed in this book due mainly to the fact that the siblings and friends treated each other so poorly.This is bad enough but there is never any talk of the parents intervening and teaching the children how to treat each other with kindness and respect.Children do not need to be encouraged to treat each other in mean spirited ways.I would not recommend this book to anyone. ... Awesome
This is a very clever book that incorporates mystery writing with nursery rhyme characters. My five year old loves to read the book. But as an adult, I appreciated the humor and all the nursery rhyme references. If you like Minnie and Moo and Nate the Great, you'll enjoy this book too. I only wish this book was not out of print.
