5-0 out of 5 stars The Twinkie Squad
This book was so funny, yet it had a good moral. The moral was definitely exposed as saying don't use prejudice. I really liked the school play part where Douglas got dressed in clown pants by accident. My favorite characters were the Richardsons because of their silliness and those cheesy smiles they always had throughout the book. You would enjoy this book if you were into comedy and enjoy surprises in books, this is certainly the type of novel you'd want to read.

5-0 out of 5 stars Comic characters address stereotypes and school life
I am a teacher in British Columbia, Canada and I have to say, the students love this book.I have introduced it for a number of years in a literature circle setting, where kids get to discuss books. Both the kids and their parents really appreciate a book with both great comic relief and serious issues, such as bullying and learning disabilities addressed. The kids simply howl at some of the antics of Douglas and his "friends".I have had many parents thank me for choosing such a fantastic book!I simply cannot believe it is officially out of print!!!

1-0 out of 5 stars Lousiest Book I've Probably Ever Read
As this tries much too hard to be comedy, I found it very boring. Some people will disagree, but I didn't think there was anything the least bit funny about this book. Maybe I just didn't think it made sense. Might I ask what IS funny about it. I didn't want to read this, but I did anyway, and I didn't surprise myself. My favorite book of all time is "The Melancholy Death of Oyster Boy." "The Twinkie Squad" is the total opposite of that. It just plain sucks on ice, big time! It sucks as much as the 1996 Romeo and Juliet movie: You don't know what to expect from it, but shortly after, you know the rest will suck.

2-0 out of 5 stars JOIN THE FRIGGIN' CLUB!!
This is just a dumb story about a kid from a fictional country whose nose always bleeds called his "post nasal drip" and all the other kids are in a club who hate their school and try to make a scam against it. This book sucks.

5-0 out of 5 stars Still Vivid After All This Time
Read it years and years ago in middle school. Loved every letter of it, reread it over and over... no wonder I aced every quiz on it. It's funny in a clean, good, not-slapstick or stupid but a humorous way. Very good description, well-developed characters, G-R-R-R-R-R-E-A-T plot... and my favorite lesson, contrary to the one preached on t.v. shows for tweens that everyone has what it takes to be popular but it's not worth it, but that there are some cool and some "geeks", and it's always okay to be the latter: We had more fun! ... Charlie is a charismatic prankster—and the best football player Marcus has ever seen. He can’t believe his good luck when he finds out that Charlie is actually Charlie Popovich, or “the King of Pop,” as he had been nicknamed during his career as an NFL linebacker. But that’s not all. There is a secret about Charlie that his family is desperate to hide.

When Marcus begins school, he meets the starting quarterback on the team: Troy Popovich. Right from the beginning, Marcus and Troy disagree—about football, about Troy’s ex-girlfriend, Alyssa, but most of all about what’s good for Charlie. 5-0 out of 5 stars A great book
I like the book because the auther descibed the characters well. He descibed Nick the main character perfictly. It had so much imagrey.

The best part of the book is when Nick Lighter fell asleep with the jersey on during a monday night foot ball game and he found himself staring at sixty eight thousan fans at mile high stadium. He was Broncos legond John Elway.

The Describsion was great. The green grass, tons of fans, and the bright lights over the stadium. I like the conflict Nick aginst the best defence in football.

4-0 out of 5 stars Quarter Exchanging!
Nick being his favorite quarterback (John Elway) for a night is very good! The whole story is creative! I ~WOULD~ recommend this book!

4-0 out of 5 stars Why I liked this book!
The story of how Nick became John Elway for a night is quite good! Although, I am not a football fan, I liked the story because of the funny situations, and the true feelings. I could understand what it would be liketo be Nick, and his efforts in vain to alert his friends to the change! Also, I liked the way it switched from Nick's point of view to that of hisfriends watching the game. All in all, it was a very good book! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Stars from Mars series
The Stars from Mars series is a very amusing, well written series which my 9 year old son loves. The mixture of amusing adventures and clever witticisms renders this book a great read for youngsters and for Moms or Dads who may be reading to them.We do both - and really enjoy these books.

1-0 out of 5 stars Korman Disappoints in Yet Another Sports Story
Gordon Korman is a talented author with a genius for rapid-paced, hilarious children's books.Unforunately, these skills are definitely not on display in this latest disappointing outing.Far too many of Korman's recent books (Monday Night Football club series, Chicken Doesn't Skate,Toilet Paper Tigers and now this new Slapshots series) focus on sports. While Korman has always worked with cliches and predictable storylines, hehas more than compensated for these shortcomings by writing snappy dialogueand creating zany situations.Stars from Mars has very little todifferentiate it from any of Korman's other recent sports books. The storyis virtually the same, and, while there are moments that will make thereader smile, overall, this book does not come close to Losing Joe's Placeor The War with Mr. Wizzle. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars The Greatest of the Bruno and Boots Books
The best Bruno and Boots book- Gordon Korman really fleshes out the situations at both Miss Scrimage's and Macdonald Hall as he does in no other book. The antics are not just those of Bruno and Boots, but also of Cathy and Diane, their friends from the girls' school. While part of the plot forces one to suspend one's disbelief, this is an extremely funny book.

5-0 out of 5 stars An absolutely wonderful, hysterically funny book!
I don't even remember what the book was about, I just remember laughing out loud and annoying all my family members.I strongly recommend all the Bruno and Boots stories, as well as many other of Gordon Korman's books.

5-0 out of 5 stars Another winner from Korman in the Bruno and Boots series!

Island trilogy book review

The island trilogy book was a great and satisfying read for me. The book was about five kids who were sentenced to boating school for a month torture to them, hard labor, cold sea water, and mean teachers. Little did they know the situation was going to get worse! One day the boat sprang a leak they were slowly headed to the bottom of the sea. The captain made them work all day to throw water off the boat. This continued for the days to come, then one day they awoke to find the captain and the co-captain were gone. They soon realized the captains had ditched them, and took there only lifeboat, sentencing them to death by sea. The story continues about the kids survival and there wanting on revenge of the captain. It is a great read, it will keep you at the edge of your seat.

5-0 out of 5 stars Suspense Action Humor Wit
This book has it all- a combination of 3 books, this is definitely an amazing story. The hardcover is very pretty and gives the reader a sense of pride to be owning it.
The story is about a couple of kids who are sent to sea as part of a program to change their terrible and ruthless persona. Everything is going fine until a tragic storm hit and well... things turn out a little icy. The book is really good, as you can tell i have to brush up on my reviewing skills but i thought i'd review it anyway, just in case SOMEONE thought of a thing of it.
all in all, it is one of my favorite books

5-0 out of 5 stars The other side of Lord of the Flies
I picked up these books at the library (along with a few others) in an effort to familiarize myself with some of the authors and literature out there nowadays for kids, as my own children are getting to the age when they will be reading books as these.

I found these books extremely exciting and well-written.More than anything, I cannot stand sloppy writing and contrived plots.I thought this was an excellent children's story with good messages on cooperation and dealing with difficult circumstances.

I read Lord of the Flies when I was in school, and I couldn't help but be reminded of it, although these books take the other side of the argument, so to speak. The 'Island' children are shipwrecked on an island and though they are dealing with different personalities and opinions within the group, they work together as best they can. While Lord of the Flies shows the depravity of human nature, these books show the courage and intelligence of it.

I promise your kids will love it, and you probably will, too!

5-0 out of 5 stars Better reading for all
it seems in this day and age that books for tweens and YAs are better written than adult fare! This series is a real page turner and I'm 62!The YA books come in all genres and more attention is paid to the writing (the author studied up on island living just for this series) as no one has to figure out where to put the overly gory and excessive use of graphic sex and four-letter words. This is a great mystery/action/adventure story.A real page-turner.I highly recommend this series!

5-0 out of 5 stars This was a FUNNY book..totally hilarious!
I would suggest it to everyone who needs a good laugh and a good read at the same time. I am looking forward to reading his other books!

5-0 out of 5 stars Why Did the underwear cross the road
I thought this book was cute, and well done. It captures the reader within the first couple of paragraphs, and I think that is a must for getting children who dont want to read, like my 13 year old. It matches the thoughts of some children today, and make me wish I were a child again so I could feel like life could be this much fun, even in disappoints. I am impressed that it kept the attention of my 13 year son who hates to read.

4-0 out of 5 stars great for fourth grade
I enjoy the silliness of Korman's stories, and this one has lots of silliness.I booktalk this title occasionally to fourth graders who visit my library and they really get a kick out of it.I would recommend this for grade school students looking for a very funny story.

2-0 out of 5 stars Unlike other Korman books, not one I'd likely re-read
Most of Korman's works, especially those in the MacDonald Hall series, as well as most others focusing on slightly older characters, have the endearing characteristic of being simply written and furiously funny, allowing for appreciation on many levels. Not so with 'Why Did theUnderwear Cross the Road', and other attempts to chronicle pre-adolescentlife.

Even at their age I found it difficult to identify with any of thecharacters in such books, and now, several years since, I am stilldecidedly reluctent to re-read these books, although I routinely re-readsuch classics as 'Losing Joe's Place' or 'This Can't be Happening atMacDonald Hall'. Do yourself a favor. Buy one of his better books, or ifyou are in the situation where I was when I read this book, having alreadyread just about all of the rest of Gordon Korman's stuff, find anotherauthor. Might I suggest Jules Verne? Very good stuff, and quite timeless Imight add. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Korman did it again
These books are not just for youth they are interesting for us adults too. This and alot of Kormans other books are well written and page turners. My 13 year old twins got all excited when I said that I was ordering another Gordan Korman set. (The on the run set of 6) They now know what to expect from his books and so do I. A good action/adventure page turner. If you like action adventure these books are a good buy. I'm not saying what they are about (I don't do book reports at my age) but I will say I stayed up until 1:30 a.m. because I couldn't put the book down until I finished it. (The on the run series) Dive was great too, but the On the run, Kidinapped, and Island books are still our favorites. These are good kid-rule type books. (You know kids in a situation they have to get out of without much adult intervention) Worth the money. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely HILARIOUS!A fantastic read!
I, too, was SHOCKED to find Gordon Korman's funniest books out of print.I loved his stories as a kid, especially the Bruno and Boots series, I Want To Go Home, and No Coins, Please.Unbeknownst to me, my mom gave all of my books away while I was at college. Now that I have children, I decided to again build my collection of Gordon Korman books so I could share these fantastic stories with them, only to find most of the classics are out of print. This is honestly a travesty.I have SO many wonderful memories reading this books and laughing until I cried.I have read these books over and over and never got tired of them. The stories are so witty and well written--the characters are fantastic! If you have grade school kids or young teens, they will LOVE this series! And to the publisher: PLEASE BRING BACK BRUNO AND BOOTS!I can't believe this series is out of print!Do a good turn for all of those kids out there who may grow up without Gordon Korman books and publish these again!

5-0 out of 5 stars LET'S BRING THEM BACK!
I could not believe that most of Gordon Korman's books are out of print!

Is everyone so decadent that all they care about is garbage 7th grade bathroom entertainment like Simpsons?

I decided to finally purchase this book after getting it out of the library several times and was shocked that it was already out of print.

There is the usual hilarious slapstick comedy of the kids in the school for boys and the girls acress the street.

This time there is a movie going to be filmed at the school. The book is pretty predictable and fun to read....

...until Miss Scrimmage (the dippy headmistress of the girl's finishing school across the street from the boys school) goes ballistic and a trailer runs wild.

Although I have read the book several times, that part NEVER fails to get me laughing so hard that I end up in tears.Very few books can to do that to me- espeically over and over, but Gordon Korman books can.

The characters in the book are beautifully developed and by the end, you feel like you know them.

I would recommend that you read the previous books in the Bruno and Boots series from the beginning (starting with THIS CAN NOT BE HAPPENING AT MACDONALD HALL, BEWARE THE FISH, GO JUMP IN THE POOL, WAR WITH MR. WIZZLE, ZUCCHINI WARRIORS).

Then you will appreciate this book MACDONALD HALL GOES HOLLYWOOD even more.

A Gordon Korman book (especially BRUNO and BOOTS) every now and then is a perfect remedy for what ails you......IF you have a sense of humor, that is.

This kind of humor is sorely needed when you have a bad day or just when you need to sit back and have a really good laugh.

4-0 out of 5 stars They break SPITTOON!
Based on comments of 10 year old boy.) This book is the last in a series of four so far (NP from Outer Space, Planet of the NPs, Invasion of the NPs, and Your Mummy is a NP). The main gag in the whole series is that the aliens look like they are picking their noses, but they are really operating internal nose computers. Earth has just become the main tourist attraction for tourists from the planet Pan. Pants, as they are called, love to go to the dentist, be stuck in traffic jams, and sneeze. But they are not able to sneeze, so they might not visit, and the Earth might be moved past Pluto as a result. To stop this, Stan from Pan and Devin from Earth go back in time to ancient Egypt to bring back Nile Delta Goldenrod, a weed that Pants are allergic to. They goof and change history. Now the world is one big Egypt!

Vince has never wanted anything to do with the family's... er.. vending machine business, and is on his way to film school in L.A.--as far across the country as he can get from his family in New York. What could go wrong? Well, his roomate is the son of a congressman. And a kleptomaniac. Kendra spends all her time working with his upstairs neighbour on HIS film project, a biblical comedy.
