5-0 out of 5 stars Amazed at Reviews Matching My Experience 25 Years Ago
I read this book 25 years ago and remember laughing out loud through out the entire book. My mother kept coming by to figure out what was going on. This was one of my favorite books of my childhood.

I just picked the book up today for my son (a block of 8 Korman books), and dropped by here to see if my recollections of quality were there. I'm stunned by how many reviews match my memory.

"Who is Bugs Potter" also wowed me. My memories of that book are one influence that made me want the Rock Band game :). Loved the rest of the Bruno and Boots books as well.

Now I just have to figure out what age to give it to my seven year old at. I've realized I have provided slightly too advanced books before, and am more cautious now (Magic Tree House, Droon and Captain Underpants).

5-0 out of 5 stars I Want to Go Home
My eleven-year old read this book for his school reading log last week. Here is what he thought: "Gordon Korman is a fun, creative author and "I Want to Go Home" was hilarious. The main characters, Rudy and Mike, badly want to escape from overnight camp somewhere in Ontario, Canada. All the counsellors go after them in boats because they mostly try to escape over the water. The most hilarious moment for me was when one of the counsellors kicked out a piece of the wall of the cabin because he was so mad. Gordon Korman is a beast."

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best Summer Read for a Kid.Or an Adult.
Wow.I looked this book up on a whim after talking with friends about books we loved as kids.I think I read this book 10x one summer, laughing all the way through. The trick is that it is not dumb humor--quite the contrary.Like all the best kids' stuff out there, there is intelligence behind the laughs that makes it funny even now, to a 30 yr old!If you read this book as a kid, treat yourself to a trip down memory lane and read it again, and if you've got kids, have them read it too.Especially if they have been or are going to a summer camp.

5-0 out of 5 stars AMAZING
This is one of my favorite books from childhood and a book that everyone should read at some point. Buy this for any one who likes to read - and laugh.

5-0 out of 5 stars Hilarity abounds!
I read this book for the first time in the 6th grade, and now, 20 years, later, it is still as hilarious as ever. All ages can enjoy this wonderfully funny book! If you like to laugh, then give "I Want to Go Home" a try. You won't be disappointed! ... Read more

Product Description
Leo Caraway—high school senior, president of the Young Republicans club, 4.0 GPA, future Harvard student—had his entire future perfectly planned out. That was, until the X factor. As in Marion X. McMurphy, aka King Maggot, the lead singer of Purge, the most popular, most destructive band punk rock has ever seen. He's also Leo’s biological father.

When Leo discovers that his real father is a punk rock legend, he is disgusted.  Not only is Leo not a punk rock fan, but he believes the X factor (the Maggot blood that is running through his veins) is a dangerous time bomb just waiting to explode.  And sure enough it does—Leo stubbornly defends the unlikeliest of people, thereby getting himself falsely accused of cheating on a test.

Because of the blemish on his record, the once star pupil finds his scholarship to Harvard taken away.  So he hatches the crazy plan of going on tour with King Maggot for Purge’s summer revival tour, all the while secretly hoping to convince Maggot to pay for his tuition. But life on the road is even crazier than Leo ever bargained for, and before the summer is out, he will finally discover the surprising truth about his dad, his friends, and most important, himself.

2-0 out of 5 stars Disappointing
This book was a huge let-down compared to the books Korman wrote in the past, such as The Twinkie Squad.I bought the audio book, and I didn't even make it through the first CD.
The book begins with the main character letting us know he had to have some kind of [...] exam, and that is supposed to pique our interest so that we'll read the rest of the book to find out why.
The plot, if there was one, dragged, and I gave up.
For those of you to whom this is important, Korman gives the impression of being liberal with regard to homosexuality.

5-0 out of 5 stars Born to Rock
Gr 7-10-Leo Caraway is a strait A student, president of the Young Republicans group, and isthe biological son of a Punk Rock Star.He didn't know who his bio dad was until be stumbled upon a website that talked about Marion X. McMurphy who's name is listed on his birth certificate. When he is accused of cheating on a test, he loses his scholarship to Harvard. He then decides to try to meet his punk rock dad , aka King Maggot so that he can get closer to him to try to get him to payfor his college tuition.I thought this book was very interesting because it talks about punk rock and has a very good storyline.I would recommend this book to any rocker looking for a good story about punk rock or the difficulty of teenage life and being a roadie.I wouldrecommend this book to the age group of 13 to 18 years.I thought it was the best book I ever read E V E R!!!

3-0 out of 5 stars pretty good
My 12 year read this for a summer reading project and he thought it was an o.k. book

3-0 out of 5 stars Cute, predictable, but sweet
I listened to this as part of a book club, knowing that I wouldn't really care to read it as it's not my favorite genre.Still, even though I don't care much for young adult lit., it made me smile and it livened up my workouts as well.It struck me as a bit low-budget, esp. when the musical breaks came in, but it was worth a listen.

5-0 out of 5 stars This is a great book!
"I'd always blamed my McMurphy DNA for every weird urge and character flaw, but that was just neurotic. Never did I seriously believe that I'd turn out to be so spectacularly right! I mean, a dad in the entertainment industry would have been kind of cool, but this was more like terrorism than show business. The blood of a notorious lowlife flowed through my veins. I was Prince Maggot." Leo Caraway makes this statement in the book Born to Rock by Gordan Korman when he realizes that his true biological father is not who he thought he was. As he finds out it is really front-man of the famous punk-rock band Purge, Marion X. McMurphy. A.K.A. King Maggot.

Leo Caraway is a bright, 18 year-old, and president of the Young Republicans. Leo's life is going great for him. He is about to graduate high school and has a scholarship to Harvard. However, while taking a test he is accused of cheating and has his scholarship taken away. His family can't afford tuition and Leo can only think of one person to turn to. King Maggot. The only problem is, King doesn't know who Leo is. Leo is troubled when he is trying to figure out how he will come in contact with King Maggot so he throws a note to him during a press conference. But doesn't know if he will respond.

Born to Rock is an excellent story of a young boy trying to connect with his true father and makes you wonder, "what will happen next?" This book is way too exciting to put down. I loved reading about Leo's many adventures and problems while touring with the band Purge like losing a poodle in a nightclub and dealing with his grumpy roommate, Cam, all while discovering the true identity behind King Maggot and waiting for the DNA tests results to come back. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars High Action in some parts boring in others.
The book was fabulous in some parts but dead boring in others i guess after the first 5 books i was expecting more but got less. But still there was some good action and i would definteley sugest it to some who is into high action books just but be ready for an accasionally boring part and make sure you read the rest of the series first.I hope in the future Gordan will consider leaving out all the boring parts. I also hope he will keep his high paced action too. So overall it was a fairly good book with only a couple of draw backs. So i hope you enjoy it as much as i did.

This product was shipped and received as expected. I would purchase from this seller again.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great writer of "series" books
I bought this and several other Gordon Korman books for my 11 year-old son.He devours everything Korman writes.Anything that will capture a boy's interest and make him "beg" to read is okay with me, and Korman seems to have the formula to keep kids this age riveted to the end!

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome Book!!By Jamaca James
Kaz, Adriana, Dante, and Star.4 Divers.1 Treasure.1 Great Adventure.
This action packed series by the author Gordon Korman, is a great story of underwater adventure between the internship of these 4 teens on a diving mission. But this diving mission isn't just that. The 13 year old inexperienced kids find underwater wrecks with treasure worth over a billion dollars. One point two billion dollars to be exact. The pirates from long ago sunk in a hurricane with their treasure only to be found 300 years later by Kaz's quick learning, Adriana's smarts, Dante's great, but unusual eyesight, and Star's experience to guide them along the way.And with the help of a few friends of course.
I really enjoyed this series. And the ending didn't dissapoint me either! You'll just have to find out for yourself to see what happens!
This author writes the series of Island and Everest.Check these out as well!

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best books i have ever read
Dive Book 3 is one of the best books i have ever read. It is about these four teen interns that are in Cote St. Luce on a diving internship for the summer. They start off havinga good time and everything is running smoothly. But, after about three weeks of being there they find out that their captain is a treasure hunter and not a scientist trying to "learn" about the ocean. He is just using them for the treasure that they find. But what they werent expecting was a few deaths because of this situation. They get through the summer by sticking together. To find out what happens you will have to read the book, but the story makes more sense if you read the series!!!
I really think that these stories are great to read and are perfect for people that like stories with mystery and action. I think that these books are great for anyone in grades 4-8th!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars dive 3: the danger
When the going gets tough friends stick together, right?Well these are pretty close friends if you ask me.Dante's colorblind, Star got the binds, and Kas is going on a 703 feet deep dive, as for Adriana, she's stuck on some internship while her brother and uncle are on some archeologist dig.Their friend and Captain died because of one person. Now they have found the Griffin with a hidden story behind it.The only thing that stands in their way is an 18 foot tiger shark, and Marina.
I love adventure books, ecspecially this one.Kas has a horrible memmory and a storg, but tender attitude.I think Gordon Korman did a great job on this series, but this book got me.I would strongly recommend this book. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars SDM
It is a great book for girls who like sports. Most sports books feature boys.

4-0 out of 5 stars The Zucchini Warriors
This book is about a couple kids Bruno and Boots, that want a recreation hall where they can just relax, but instead they built a football stadium and the school doesn't even have a team. A professional football player that came to their school built the stadium and made them a deal. If they create a good football team, he'll make them the best rec. hall he can. Mr. Carson "Hank The Tank" had a food call Zucchini sticks and they tasted really horrible and no one wanted to eat them but they didn't want to hurt his feeling so they pretended to eat them and came up with all these ideas on how to get rid of it. What they would do was they'd flush it down the toilet get huge trash bags and leave it in the woods.

Boots wasn't doing that good as a quarterback and his team needed help so he had this girl named Cathy from across in the other school to dress up as their friend Elmer since she's shaped more like him and play for Boots since she was really good and they wouldn't let her play for the team. There also was this kid named Sidney. Sidney was a blabbermouth even if he promised not to say anything he would say it, and nobody wanted him around definitely when they were having a girl play for Boots, and throwing away the Zucchini sticks after being caught once because they made a horrible smell when they threw them out in the woods.

They wanted a design on how the rec. hall would look like so they had their friend Elmer draw a blueprint. After he was done they didn't like the idea, but his friend had these Hamsters that escaped the cage and they found the animal eating the Zucchini sticks and they had an idea to feed the Sticks to the Bush Hamsters.

After having Cathy play for them later on, they earned their Rec. hall by being really good, but they got caught throwing out Zucchini sticks and told Mr. Carson they didn't want to hurt his feelings, and also they told everyone at the game that Boots was letting Cathy play for him all along, because he thought the principal was being arrested, but he wasn't and he felt stupid after. After that the principal had a talk with them and told them cheating in unacceptable and then Mr. Carson walked in and said "I think that disqualification was dumb, but you guys showed me you played hard and good and I said that if you'd do that, you'd get a rec. hall so I'm going to make since the school is going to wind up making one anyway, I'll just make one with more stuff."The boys were really happy, but there was bad news. They had to clean up the huge mess on the football stadium but they were still happy they got their rec. hall. Then Bruno Called them over and said look! There's more than 4 bush hamsters now!

I liked this book because it was about 2 boys who wanted a rec. hall and they played on a football team to get it but they were bad so this girl helped them and made them better and at the same time they had to throw out those Zucchini sticks secretly at night and there was so many things happening that it was very interesting.

One thing I liked about this book when Boots and Bruno asked Elmer to hide when the games were going since Cathy was acting like Elmer while the game was going on. Then Elmer said "Fine, I'll do it but you'll never ask me for anything again if I do it, ok?" And Boots and Bruno said ok and signed a contract. Then later on when they had to clean the football field of all the Zucchini sticks he asked Elmer to help and Elmer said remember that contract? Then Boots was saying c'mon elm' that was 2 weeks ago. Then they Bruno called them and instead of 4 bush hamsters, there was many of them because they reproduced while eating the Zucchini sticks.

One thing the author could've done better was to explain how they acted when they were in the rec. hall and how it was built better. Other than that, I liked how the author wrote the book.

4-0 out of 5 stars The Zucchini Review
This book is humorous and exciting at the same time making it a sure touchdown! It will most likely be easier to understand and will be more enjoyable if you are a fan of football and understand the rules. Being a football fan/player myself I understood the football parts. Basically, the story takes place when Bruno and Boots, two roomates, decide they want a rec hall for their school, but no one seems to want to pay the money for their idea. But when former Green Bay Packer great Hank the Tank Carson comes along and wants to start a football team at his former school, he is willing to buy a rec hall for his players... if they can manage to win. Unfortunately for the boys, and the school, Henry Carson is also the owner of Mr. Zucchini Sticks, the delicious fluffy fried zucchini sticks that he thinks everyone enjoys. Boy was he wrong. They take many twists and turns to find ways to win but never doubt Bruno Walton's creative ideas.
The only thing I didn't like about the book is that some parts of the story were completley random and had no effect on the outcome. One thing I especially liked was that not all the action was on the field, but most of the humor happened in the dorms and in the classroom. In my opinion, the best character was Bruno because he was funny, creative, and mischevious. Overall, I thought it was a very good book and I recommend it to anyone who enjoys humor and Gordan Korman.

3-0 out of 5 stars Just so-so
For me, this book is when the series starts to lose its magic and just seem like Korman is churning out more of the same. The characters and the writing are solid, if predictable, but the plot has too much emphasis on the struggling sports team of misfits, most notably a superstar girl player who must hide her gender as she racks up the wins for the team.

I'm just used to the Bruno and Boots series dishing up more original storylines, and I think that it was a good thing that Korman moved on to other characters when he did.

Korman remains a great writer who has a real knack for bringing out the humor in strange situations. However, in this particular book, everything just seems a little stale, especially the idea that Bruno and Boots continue to fear the Fish, even though after umpteen years of breaking the rules, his austere personality hasn't yet manifested itself in the form of severe consequences.

If you are a Bruno and Boots fan, by all means read this book, but if you're picking up this author for the first time, start at the beginning of this hilarious series and work your way through them chronologically.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very funny stuff-- One of the best in the series
This is one of the best in the extremely funny and well-done Bruno and Boots series by Gordon Korman.

Bruno and Boots find themselves trying to raise money so that MacDonald Hall can have a swimming pool, and their efforts are fueld by a sense of competition with a neighboring institution. They try everything from playing the stock market to erecting a toll booth, and the wacky cast of supporting characters (including my favorite, science nerd Eelmer Drimsdale) offers up plenty of yuks.

Some of the best material comes in the midst of a talent show that Bruno and Boots put on, with predictably entertaining (and somewhat disastrous) results.

Written very early in Korman's career (which began well before he graduated high school), this book is one of the ones upon which his reputation for humor and well-paced novels was based. As a new, fresh writer, Korman showed that he had something to say, and young readers everywhere were all ears.

It is true that his characters can be cartoonish, and the actions often stray from the realm of believability, but you just have to accept that as part of the fun.

This is a great book to cut your Korman-teeth on. You're guaranteed to find it entertaining.

5-0 out of 5 stars My favourite Gordon Korman book!
There is no one in the world who does not love Gordon Korman's novels.Even my dad, who is almost 50 years old, laughs hysterically when he reads them.I don't just laugh while I'm reading them, I laugh whenever I evenTHINK about them! This is my very favourite book by Gordon Korman.Iloved the whole Bruno and Boots series, but I thought this one was thebest.Gordon Korman has this great way of working up to a climax, andfinishing the book in a totally bizarre and hilarious way.My favouritecharacter is The Fish - there are so many great descriptions of him!Great book - you have to read it, whether you're a fourth grader or acollege graduate. No one is too old for Bruno and Boots!

5-0 out of 5 stars A Wonderful Book...
This book is one of the best I have ever read. It creates the feeling that you actually are THERE, with the characters, experiencing everything they do. At the end of the book... well, I won't spoil the ending for anyone whohasn't read it, but it makes you feel as though you helped, and get to joinin the celebration rightfully.

Read this book. While you're at it, readthe rest of the series. You won't be let down.

5-0 out of 5 stars Boots and Bruno are trying to raise money to buy a pool.
The author of my book Go Jump in the Pool,is Gordon Korman.Gordon Korman's book's are just about humour, and he started writing his first bookin grade 7. In my book,Go Jump in the Pool, the main characters are Bootsand Bruno. Boots is ateenager he has short blond hair and Bruno is ateenager with short brown hair.Bruno's and Boots personalitys are mischiefmakers, funny, they like to laugh, they are loyol firends, and they arekind.Boots and Bruno are two boys who live at MacDonald Hall.MacDonald Hallis a bording school for boys.Across the the road theres a bording schoolfor girls. Once every few monthes MacDonald Hall studentswillrace York Academy to see which school's the fastest at swimming.YorkAcademy has there own pool and MacDonald Hall doesn't have a pool. YorkAcademy always wins but it's not really fair because York Academy their ownpool.York Academy is a boys bording school too.So Boots and Bruno aretrying to raisea lot of money to buy a pool for MacDonald Hall. Theyget in a lot of mischief while trying to raise all the money. You will haveto read Go Jump in the Pool if you want to find out if they raise it all ornot. I liked this book because its fun to read its fun to read becauseBoots and Bruno are trying to raise money for the school they get introble. And when they get in troble they always get in troble by doingsomething funny.I realy like Gordan Korman books.

The title of my book is Bruno and Boots, Go Jump In The Pool and the author is Gordon Korman. This book is about 2 boys named Bruno and Bootswho go to Macdonald Hall.(A boarding school.) They want to have a swimmingpool like their like their enemies who go York Academy.Bruno, Boots and all their friends and classmates have to raise 25,000$ in order to have apool. At the beginning Mr.Sturgeon (The head of the school,) likes the ideaof have having a pool like the York Academy. The only reason the students atMacdonald Hall wants a swimming pool is because they do not like swimmingwith York Academy and if they don't get one Boots will have to go to YorkAcademy. I think Bruno And Boots Go Jump In The Pool is a good, funnybook.I think Gordon Korman is a good author. This is my first Gordon Kormanbook that I have ever read and I realy enjoyed it. 5-0 out of 5 stars enthralling story
I have been reading this series with my son (who is just finishing eighth grade).

He is hard to motivate to read but this series has really captured his imagination.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Series, fast paced
My 10-year-old loves this series, and has hooked her 12-year-old sister in to it, too. I've read some of the books out loud to the kids and they are fun, fast, and clean. Great suspense of a very appropriate nature for young readers. I would recommend these books to anyone.

5-0 out of 5 stars For reluctant readers
This series by Gordon Korman worked wonders for several reluctant readers in my class. These are good fast moving books that really move you on to the next in the series.

5-0 out of 5 stars These are very good books..
I started reading these books about 5 months ago. I got the very first book(chasing the Falconers) at a book sale at my school.I though this book would be plain just like any other book, but when I finished the first book I was already reading the second. On the Run is the best series of books I have ever read. I love these books because they are just right for my age and they are so interesting and fun to read! They are also loaded with action! Gordon Korman is a very good Author and I love to read his books. I have just finished the second book and im going to order the third(now you see them now u dont) and the fourth(the stowaway solution). I cant wait to read them and im so excited! I cant wait for u to come out with your sixth book!!

Aiden and Meg Falconer are trying to prove their parents' innocence.Unfortunately, they have the world against them. They have nick-named one man "Hairless Joe."He is out to kill Aiden and Meg Falconer, and they have no clue why. They narrowly escape his attacks but the police capture Meg.Luckily, Aiden comes up with a plan and rescues Meg.As they are running, they meet up with some new friends who help them hide.
I love this book!Once you start reading you can't stop. The main characters act off each other, which makes the story more interesting. My favorite part of the story was when the FBI caught Meg Falconer. The day after Meg's capture, Aiden sneaks into the place where Meg is being held.He dresses up as a police officer and walks Meg out of the building where they keep running.I highly recommend this book. It's one of the best books I have ever read!

YOU WANT MY ATTENTION??????????????????THAT IS SO FUNNY BECAUSE I HAVE TRIED EVERYTHING TO GET YOUR COMPANY'S ATTENTION REGARDING A BOOK MY SCHOOLWAS CHARGED FOR AND NEVER RECEIVED FROM THRIFT BOOKS. I LOVE GORDON KORMAN'S BOOKS, BUT I WILL NEVER BUY ANYTHING FROM YOUR UNREACHABLE, NON-HUMAN COMPANY.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good light fun book for boys.
I was straightening up my son's book shelves and as is usual for me, I read a few of them. Gordon Korman is one of his favorite authors at the moment so he asked me to read this one in particular. It is a light book, nice quick read, aimed at 4th - 6th grade boys. Two best friends who have a great time assigning appropriate nicknames for everyone they encounter. There is a nice little message threaded through the book about friendship and loyalty and also about how maybe a person given a nickname that is not quite in line with the opinion others have about that person might actually step outside themselves and rise to the expectation's of the nickname. This happened with good effect to "iceman" but it also begs the question about the consequences of negative nicknames. The main impression I got from this book was how a perfectly wonderful, lifetime friendship between two 11 yr old boys can be totally ruined by the introduction of a new girl in school.

3-0 out of 5 stars Frights with Friends
The Sixth Grade Nickname Game

The Sixth Grade Nickname Game is a realistic fiction book by Gordan Korman.
In this book two boys named Wiley and Jeff are best friends. They are known as the two nicknames, because almost everybody in the school has a nickname, including the teachers. Mr. Hughes, their new 6B teacher is nicknamed Mr. Huge because he's so muscular. Mr. Huge is a football coach so is often found shouting words of encouragement in class. The class overhears the principal saying that Mr. Huge was going to be fired after Christmas. The class then tries to save their beloved teacher.
One day the principal announced that a new student was to join the class, Cassandra. The boy's quickly become friends with Cassandra and try to figure out a nickname for her. This becomes difficult, but as they hang out with her, specifically for nicknaming business, they both realize that they like her a lot. Up comes the Sadie Hawkins dance, where the girls ask the boys. Both boys are determined that she will pick one of them. Then starts the fight between Wiley and Jeff over Cassandra, that might end up ruining their friendship.
I enjoyed this book, but it might be a little to young for me, maybe about fifth grade. I liked it because it had a lot of good detail and excitement, including fights between the two boys and a fight between one class and a principal that only the kids of 6B know about. This book was easy to stick to and was very funny.

5-0 out of 5 stars Book Review on The 6th Grade Nickname Game
Review on The 6th Grade Nick NameGame. By Gordon Korman, Mark Buehner.

This is funny and you can maybe relate this book to your self. Wiley and Jeff are the main characters and they make nick names for everyone and they have to stick or they don't fit. This new girl comes. Wiley and Jeff argueover her. Then a kid nick named snoopy gave them a challenge to pick some kid and nick name him/her what ever. If it sticks snoopy gets a new nick name.
If you like making nick names for people or have a good friendship with your friend, you are like Wiley and Jeff. Cassandra is the new girl and she is a big tomboy and she is not shy. If your like that you can connect with Cassandra. Iceman is really shy and doesn't have any friends until he gets the nick name Iceman. If your really shy sometimes you can connect with Iceman.
The school is wear a lot of the nick names are thought of. Some argues happen at the school. The house are wear Wiley and Jeff have lists of nick names. They argue more at houses then school.
Wiley and Jeff's friendship is on and off because of Cassandra. They both like her so they try to impress her. Wiley and Jeff both want to go to the dance with Cassandrathat's why there getting into fights. But Iceman gets to go to the dance with Cassandra that's when they stop fighting.
Wiley and Jeff's friendship gets better after they know Iceman is going to the dance with Cassandra. Wiley and Jeff go to the dance by there selves. They have a good time without fighting. Then they go back to making nick names for everyone. So they forget about Cassandra and move on.

5-0 out of 5 stars Just what I asked for!
The item I purchased was sent directly to me within the expected time frame and in just the condition described in the sellers profile. I am happy to add it to my collection of books.

4-0 out of 5 stars Son of the Mob
If I had to change my name to anything else it would be to Vincent Luca. This is the name of the Son of the Mob. This was the second book of the series about the son of the mob that I read. Vincent is the first Luca to graduate from high school and make it to college. When he gets there he hopes he will be mafia-free, because he does not like his other option, actually joining the mob. Within Vincent's first week at college his brother Tommy shows up at his dorm and ends up staying for a while.

Throughout the other quarter of the book, Vincent's "uncles", men who work under Vincent's father, start showing up at his dorm with his mother's homemade food. The "uncles" say that they are there to go sightseeing, but Vincent has other suspicions. Ironically Vincent's college roommate is the son of a Congressman. He has a knack for the "five finger discount". Vincent's roommate finds out about the mob connection, Vincent therefore wants his roommate to stay far away from hid "uncles" in case he has any ideas about joining the mob. This is my favorite part of the book

It turns out that Tommy is only in town to find ways to scam money. The "uncles" are only there so they can cause riots at all of the Congressman's speeches.
Vincent's roommate goes out and steals a car, at the same Vincent finds out that his own father is in town, and mysteriously someone important goes missing. To add up to a great grand finale, Vincent and his roommate both follow their fathers coincidentally at the same time. It turns out they are all headed to the same place, the same place the missing person is being held. The question now is whose the good guy and whose the bad guy???
This book was well written and well put together. The author did a good job of piecing together the facts. He alluded, very well I might add, to what it would be like in the mob. It was the kind of book that you felt like you were a part of. It really felt like you knew what Vincent was going through. I would definately reccomend this book to anyone interested in an action packed novel.

5-0 out of 5 stars Book Review of Son of the Mob Hollywood Hustle
What would someone do if they thought they were finally away from the mob but then it suddenly came back into their life?Vince Luca faced this in the fantastic book Son of the Mob Hollywood Hustle by Gordon Karman.

At first Vince goes off to college happy to get away from the mob which is his father's business. His roommate, Trey, is the son of a congressman. As things go on Vince's relationship with his girlfriend, Kendra goes down hill and he gets mixed up with an evil scheme.

There are multiple things that I loved about this book.First, I enjoyed the plot because it always kept me hooked and I always wanted to know what would happen next. This is shown when Trey steals something and gets caught. When he got caught I wanted to know what would happen to him.Another thing I liked about this book was the theme. The theme teaches people that just because someone looks and acts good around the public does not mean that they don't do bad things and vice versa. Finally, I loved the character development. For example, Trey hated his dad and what he did at the beginning but Trey matures and learns that he actually loves his dad and will help him no matter what.

This book would be appropriate for teens because it has lots of action and suspense and different relationships.I enjoyed Son of the Mob Hollywood Hustle by Gordon Karman and I hope other people do too.

3-0 out of 5 stars An ok book
I read the book Son of the Mob. And I did not think it was that great of a book. It started out as a kid from New York. Who always dreamed of going to Hollywood and becoming a director.

I think this book could of bean better. I did not think this book was worth reading. I think it had a good plan. But this one didn't stick.

I like the plan. The characters. The author. But it was poorly exicuted.

Over all I think this book is ok. It's a fine book. But it didn't make sence. I was poorly writen.

4-0 out of 5 stars Son of the Mob
The start of the book was an adventure already. It began like any good story should, with a bang as my seventh and eigth grade language arts teacher would say. The book begins describing for the first two or three chapters about the life of a young man that lives in New York. His father is a Mobster that he is always argueing with and getting in fights about his fathers job of killing people and taking their money. So during the entire book Vince (the main character) and his dad Anthony Luca are getting in fights because Vince doesn't agree and he promises never to have anything to do with the mob. Vince can't do anything about it because all the clothes he has ever excepted form his father and mother were from stolen money. Vince isn't the most popular kid at highschool and he doesn't have a girlfreind until he meets the girl of his dreams named Kendra. So they date for a while and when the time comes that she wants to come over to his house he has to say no because his father and Uncles of the mob are always "working" in the house, but he never tells her the real reason of why she can't come over and get to know his family because he always makes wierd excuses. But when he goes to see her family he learns something knew, her father works for the FBI and his main objective is to try to put Vince's dad in jail. So when the time comes that he accually tells her who his dad and how he really knew her dad she was supprised but still wanted to continue their relationship, and they agreed to never go to eachother's houses. When the time comes to be voted for Prom King and Queen there are a bunch of posters that say to vote for Kendra and Vince. He thinks it's her and she thinks it's him, and neither of them want to get voted for because it is a big thing in their part of the town, so if they do get voter they could possible be found out by each other's parents. So the whole thing almost makes them brake up, and they do for a short time. During this time Vince has been trying to help these two men that need help to pay his father $600. While he promised Kendra that he would stay out of his father's business he gets involved and her father being an FBI agent sees this and takes pictures as evidence and Kendra sees the pictures. So after Vince broke his promise she gets really agrivated and that is the reason they break up for some time. The only reason that they don't break up forever, is because Kendra does some research of her own and he is innocent and they get back together. Inconclusion Vince has a hard time dealing with his father's business getting the way with everything, and messing with his life. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars No More Dead Dogs
No one likes books where dogs always die in the end. Wallace Wallace, a painfully honest football player writes a disparaging review of Old Shep, My Pal, his teacher's favorite book. As punishment, Mr. Fogelman saddles Wallace with detention: he must miss football practice and sit in on play rehearsal for an adaptation of Old Shep, My Pal.
Wallace soon begins to offer advice for the play while under accusation of sabotaging the production from within. Multiple points of view showcase Wallace's tug and pull between football and drama, as he chooses his real and false friends. Each point of view comes from somewhat one-dimensional, but intriguing characters who all learn a little bit about themselves, friendship and loyalty. Earnest, kind and hilarious, Wallace's search for his place among the confusing antics and comedic aspects of middle school - from hysterical teachers to love sick girls - gives this story a grand appeal for young readers.

4-0 out of 5 stars No More Dead Dogs - Gordon Korman
Is honesty always the best policy? Wallace Wallace seems to think so.In No More Dead Dogs, a novel by Gordon Korman, Wallace is as notorious for his honesty as he is for his football prowess. Wallace's honest opinion of Old Shep, My Pal quickly gets him off the football field and in detention, watching the drama club prepare a play version of the same story. More junior high school drama ensues when someone sabotages the play on Wallace's behalf. Everyone blames Wallace, but he doggedly searches for the truth behind the attacks. Will Wallace tackle the saboteur before the curtain rises?

No More Dead Dogs (Hyperion 2000) tackles the meaning of true friendship, honesty and great literature in a dynamic and humorous fashion. Wallace Wallace is a likeable character that the reader will stick by loyally throughout the story.Creating a play within a play, Korman models the book after a play script, each character entering the novel and telling the story from their point of view. This multi-voiced narrative adds insight and humor to the story as events are explained from friends, enemies, and teachers' perspectives. No More Dead Dogs goes a step beyond the normal fare for children's literature, appealing to a wider audience with humor, charm and creativity - a truly innovative book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Entertaining and Captivating Story
In Gordon Korman's novel, "No More Dead Dogs," (Hyperion 2000), eighth grade football star Wallace Wallace is faced with a dilemma, how do you review your teacher's favorite book, "which you positively hated," without breaking your number one rule to never tell a lie? Sentenced to detention for his brutal honesty, things get worse for Wallace when detention forces him to watch play rehearsals for the same reviled story, "Old Shep, My Pal."Wallace faces conflicts about which group of friends he owes his loyalty to when his detention forces his suspension from the football team and he finds himself relating to the drama club outcasts. When the opportunity arises for Wallace to make his mark on the play by offering advice on how to improve the story, the reader will be just as surprised as Wallace at the changes to both the character and the production.Changing narrators give the reader glimpses into several characters' heads and the culmination of the story on opening night is an entertaining end to a captivating story.

2-0 out of 5 stars My search for humorous adolescent literature must continue.
I have been looking for a book for junior high students that was both humorous and interesting. I purchased this book hoping it would be the answer based on other reviews...it isn't.

It takes town where the most important thing in everyones life appears to be the junior high school football team (like that's believable). Not the high school, but the junior high. Through a fluke play, a bench warmer wins the championship and all of a sudden everyone thinks he's the best player on the team, including most of the team.(In what world does that ever happen?)

Through various circumstances, he ends up involved in the school play (that part is believable). But someone is trying to sabotage the play and he is the prime suspect. As he becomes more and more involved in the play, and more committed to the kids and cast, attempts at sabotage continue. Finally, everyone believes it's him (the part I really found unrealistic).

The story ends happy. I failed to find much humor in it, or things I believe middle school students would find humorous. Therefore my search goes on. The story has potential, would make more sense in a high school rather than a junior high setting where things like football and drama are important to a town, and if some of the "framings" were a little better thought out so that it would be reasonable that kids would turn on poor but innocent Wallace.

I just keep reading the book thinking, "That's not what would happen." The irony is the whole story is based on Wallace hating a story they read in class because that's not what would happen.

5-0 out of 5 stars good book for boys
My child isn't a dog lover but was rolling over on the bed laughing, reading passages aloud from this.Fit the 10 year old mentality well, the hatred of sappy, personal writing, the quest for unique ideas, friendship. It's all in there.Word play effective and the story line encouraging.Glad I purchased it. ... Gecko Fosse drove the getaway car.

Terence Florian ran with the worst gang in Chicago.

Arjay Moran killed someone.

All three boys are serving time in juvenile detention centers until they get a second chance at life in the form of Douglas Healy.  A former juvenile delinquent himself, Healy is running an experimental halfway house in New York City where he wants to make a difference in the lives of kids like Gecko, Terence, and Arjay.

Things are going well, until one night Healy is accidentally knocked unconscious while trying to break up a scuffle among the boys.  Terrified of the consequences, they drop him off at a hospital and run away.  But when Healy awakes, he has no memory of them or the halfway house.  Afraid of being sent back to Juvie, the guys hatch a crazy scheme to continue on as if the group leader never left.  They will go to school, do their community service, attend therapy, and act like model citizens until Healy's memory returns and he can resume his place with them.

But life keeps getting in the way...like Gecko finding romance.  Or Arjay getting famous. Or Terence reverting to his old ways.   And the woman from social services is determined to catch them at something.  If the boys are discovered, their second chance will be their last.

5-0 out of 5 stars AWESOME BOOK
This book is AMAZING!!! One of the best books ever. It is Readers Choice Nominee in my state. Its is very interesting, funny and at the end of every chapter it makes you wonder whats next. You must read the book its for girls or boys ages 10 and up. This is a must read book !!!

3-0 out of 5 stars Who Needs Realism?
With THE JUVIE THREE, Gordon Korman spins the pleasing, if improbable, tale of three amigos -- juvenile delinquents to you -- with different strengths and weaknesses who are scooped up by a do-good sort (and ex-juvie himself), Social Service worker Douglas Healy, who wants to oversee their rehabilitation by sending them back to school.Gecko is the car thief, Terence is the smooth-talking con man, and Arjay is the gentle giant who accidentally killed a bully by punching him (no, no -- the PUNCH didn't kill the kid, the statue he hit his head on when he fell did).

Sound far-fetched?It is.And the plot gets even "FARTHER-fetched," but Korman is in after-school TV special mode where anything can happen and, as long as it's entertaining, does (readers will no doubt forgive him). One of the book's strong points would be the humorous dialogue -- a Korman staple. As for the plot... well, there's this bridge I have for sale (called the Suspension of Disbelief Bridge), but that's another matter entirely.Young readers should get a kick out of Mr. Healy banging his head, suffering amnesia, and the three amigos trying to stay clean on their own (all while "hiding" his disappearance) so as to avoid a return to juvie hall.

As you might expect from a Hollywoodesque formula, the book ends with a bang (car chases, escapes, cop sirens, pretty girls with rich daddies, etc.) and ends happily ever after, too.Credit where it's due -- Korman can practically crank these out in his sleep by now.For reluctant readers, entertaining stuff.Ours is not to question so much as to enjoy, in some cases.

4-0 out of 5 stars A fun story for young and old
My wife and I chose the audio-book of this novel because we had enjoyed two other novels narrated by Christopher Welch. We were not disappointed in this. While this is a bit of a predictable story about three boys taken in by an idealistic social worker, the characters and story were fun. It's a novel that the whole family can enjoy. This does not have the cutting realism of many other YA novels, but I enjoyed rooting for these likable characters who are down on their luck. Chris Welch is very easy to listen to as well.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent choice for reluctant teen readers
This is a quality title that is accessible for reluctant readers. The premise will capture their interest and the fast-paced action will hold their attention. It may not be a Printz contender, but it's well-written, engaging and definitely serves a purpose. I'd highly recommend it for teen readers.

5-0 out of 5 stars Will keep readers rooting for the boys and their overwhelming odds right through to the end
Gecko Fosse drove the getaway car for another of his brother Ruben's thieving escapades. Arjay Moran fought back against some bullies, and one was killed accidentally after a punch. Terence Florian planned a robbery that others in a Chicago gang he wanted to join committed. All are in lockup and miserable.

Douglas Healy designed a pilot program for juvenile offenders. These three are chosen to live with him in an apartment, go to school, attend therapy sessions and be involved in community service. One slip-up and the boys will go back to prison.

Terence has no intention of toeing the line; he aims to run away as soon as possible. Gecko and Arjay know that if he disappears, they will be sent back. One night, while the three are arguing, Healy tries to intervene and is accidentally knocked unconscious. The boys drop him off at a hospital and live in fear of the consequences.

Nothing happens the next day, and they all go to school and work as if nothing happened. Gecko sneaks into the hospital to learn that Healy has no memory of who he is or what had occurred. In order to keep an eye on him, Gecko pretends to be a volunteer there. Then he meets Roxanne, another volunteer, and falls in love. Roxanne's wealthy, well-connected family threatens him, and he does not want to return to prison.

Arjay makes Gecko and Terence do their homework and keep all appointments so no one will suspect Healy is gone. But he also sneaks in some guitar practice at school and with a band at a nightclub. He finds success beyond his dreams, but knows he is now jeopardizing his freedom and those of his two friends as he becomes more known.

Meanwhile, Terence tries to get in with a gang again, finding a way to set up another robbery to court favor. When that doesn't make them accept him, and when they ask him to do something truly harmful to another person, he realizes that this is not who he wants to be. But now he has made some bad guys quite angry.

Healy is transferred to a mental institution because he still doesn't know who he is. Gecko, Arjay and Terence know they can't let him stay in that awful place; they need to band together and find some allies to help them out. Very few trust them with their criminal past, and many would just as soon see them all get sent back to prison.

The clock is ticking for all of them. The dialogue and brotherhood developing among the three boys speak true amidst a crazy situation. Would you do the right thing if no one was watching you? From thinking about surviving the next prison beating to finding out what they want for their future, they grow through every exciting page.

Prolific author Gordon Korman uses his usual humor in THE JUVIE THREE, but adds a suspenseful edge that will keep readers rooting for the boys and their overwhelming odds right through to the end.

5-0 out of 5 stars Everest 3: The Summit
Everest #3: The Summit, by Gordon Korman

"The Summit" finishes the Everest trilogy, an explosive, action-packed tale of four youngsters who are trying to be the youngest climbers ever to summit Everest.

The competition between Dominic, Perry, Sammi, and Tilt was fierce in the previous two books, but now it's even more cutthroat. Readers know that Tilt will stop at nothing to be the youngest climber on Everest, and for him to do that, Dominic must be stopped. In his sabotage, Tilt violates every unwritten rule of mountain climbing...but will he do the right thing when it counts?

Throughout the trilogy, Korman hinted at one of the climbers not surviving the mountain, and I was surprised at who stayed on Everest; I definitely didn't see it coming. I won't spoil it for other readers, but I think others may be surprised as well.

I really enjoyed "The Summit;" Korman has a talent for describing terse and dangerous situations. I admit, I'm a little tempted to strap on some crampons myself and try some climbing, thanks to what I read. My one complaint is that I would like a little more detail on some of the climbing gear, as some items are never described, such as pitons or climbing harnesses. I would've liked a mental picture to add to my imagining of the difficulty in conquering Everest.

5-0 out of 5 stars EVEREST
By Lorenzo Contreras, age 13, White Plains, New York

Have you ever wanted something so bad you would do anything to get it? This is the case with the realistic fiction book EVEREST, book three the summit. The author Gordon Korman makes you feel like you're on the mountain with the climbers.

This book is part of a three part trilogy; it is a story of Dominic Alexis and four other young climbers who are trying to be the youngest person ever to summit Everest. He is going on the trip with a team of other kids who won a contest to get a spot on the team now that the summit athletic team is on Everest as they start to climb for the second time as the first attempt failed. Many obstacles occur and one of the other climbers is trying to sabotage Dominic and when the the news about the storm comes even more problems arise. My opinion of this book is that it is great for all ages because it keeps you asking questions and on the edge of your seat.It made wonder if they would ever make it to the summit in time before the climbing season ends.

This book reminds me of two others I have read one is called Everest Book One The Contest. And Everest Book Two The Climb these are the other two books in the trilogy. The theme of this book is being that being over competitive can be dangerous. You will learn how this theme makes sense if you read this book.

I highly recommend this book because it is very interesting and is filled with action and will keep you guessing. The target audience is ages 9-13.

5-0 out of 5 stars Everest Book Three: The Summit
Everest. The climber's ultimate dream. Four teens are about to climb it to become the youngest person ever to summit the highest point in the world. The climbers names are Sammi, the only girl, age 15, Perry, age 15, Tilt, age 14, and Dominic, the youngest, age 13. If Dominic is to summit he would crush the record by almost 3 years. Unfortunately, there midnight summit try is ended early because of a rescue mission. The kids have to go back to base camp where the Nepal government comes and says it is "too dangerous" for Dominic to climb, so he will not be able to climb with the team. However, the story takes an unexpected turn when Dominic climbs with Ethan Zaph, the current record holder. If you want to find out what happens next, read Everest Book Three: The Summit.
In Everest Gordon Korman pulled me from my beanbag to the Lhoste Face where I was climbing with Sammi, Perry, Tilt, and Dominic. I thought Everest was an amazing book. Unfortunately, one of the climbers is sabotaging the others. The book ends with a happy and sad ending. There is a record broken but also it ends with a funeral. If you want to see what happens to Ethan and Dominic, or see who breaks the record, read Everest Book Three: The Summit.

5-0 out of 5 stars Everest Book Three- The Summit
Are you looking for an outstanding adventure book?Look no farther than Everest, Book Three, The Summit by Gordon Korman.Four kids, Dominic, Tilt, Perry, Sammi, and veteran climber Cap Cicero, take their chances to climb Everest. Two of them, Tilt and Dominic, are eligible to beat out Ethan Zaph and become the youngest to reach the summit. One of them will do anything to beat out the other, even if it means death. This book is realistic fiction; the realistic part coming from the places they pass, (i.e. Southern Col, The Balcony) which are real places there. The book shows determination of young teens who try to climb Everest. You may want to read the first two books, but when I did, I easily caught on.If you are a young teen or not and want to read about determination of kids to climb Everest, check out this book.
Everest, The Summit is one of the best books I have ever read.Dominic is my favorite character since he has such determination to climb. My favorite part of the story is when, well, maybe I shouldn't give it away. The last thing I'll add is the book ends with a funeral.I'm not telling you who.You have to read to find out!

5-0 out of 5 stars Dive Book 2 The Deep
I read Dive Book 2 The Deep by Gordon Korman. I think the most annoying this is when you're going on to the next book in a series and the author explains all the events that happened. Gordon Korman doesn't do that. He sort of starts a new chapter as if it was from book 1. This story takes places in Poseidon Saint Luc, a tiny city in the Caribbean. Kaz, Dante, Adriana, and Star found strange artifacts in their diving site. They figure out that the artifacts came from a Spanish Galleon, Nuestra Senora de las luz.

The four divers are going to stay in the Poseidon underwater self-contained habitat or PUSH. PUSH is located 65 feet beneath the surface. The four divers go on dives to look for nothing but artifacts. They find a dagger, silverware, and plates, and a bell. Adriana spends an hour scrubbing the coral off the bell to see if there's any writing. She figures out that the bell is from Toledo, a Spanish city where there is most metalwork. It doesn't seem like that much but it's worth 1.2 billion dollars.

Before the end of their stay, Dante finds a trench. He knew that artifacts would go down there. The four divers and a specialist will go on a deep water scout which looks like a giant bubble. At 700 feet down, they see danger.

I would recommend this book to people who like suspenseful mysteries. I couldn't really connect to this because this is a rare moment.

This first book was very exciting and had you at the edge at all times. This book a bit boring, and I could tell it was just filler for the end of book three.Because of that it was a disapointment to me.

4-0 out of 5 stars "Losing Joe's Place" Found
I read this book several times at different ages and loved it every time. I have a friend who was suffering from potential "executive burnout," and felt she could benefit from the wisdom of Rootbeer Racinette. I ordered it from Amazon and had it shipped directly to her home. Burnout avoided. I wish I had a set of all of Gordon Korman's books. Love the Bruno & Boots stories!

5-0 out of 5 stars One of my childhood favorites!
A great adventure with well-developed characters.I bought a copy to replace the one I enjoyed--and lost--as a kid and hope my own son will find it as enjoyable one day as I still do.I wish there was a Losing Joe's Place movie.

5-0 out of 5 stars A memorable book
The last time I read this book was almost 10 years ago, and I remember it as one of the funniest, most enjoyable books I have ever read. I can still remember having several laughing fits the first time I read it...this book is hilarious!

3-0 out of 5 stars Losing Joes Place
Losing Joe's Place was a pretty good book.It seemed like everytime you turned the page something new happened.
It is about these three boys who leave for the summer to live in the big city. They are able to stay ata friend's borther's apartment.Once they arrive at the apartment complex they find out its nothing like they imagined.First of all the apartment complex is located in a dull and dumpy part of the city. Then they meet their landlord Plotnick, which is not a pleasant experience. He is a grumpy older man who has a major attitude problem.which is not a pleasant experience. After they are all settled in their apartment they go out for the night and have a good time, but in the morning they find out that they have a very large bill. After paying the bill they are flat broke. The boys get a job at Plastics Unlimited. One of the three boys figure out a way to design an automatic feeder system. So that eliminated the need for feeders, the other 2 boys. The boys spend most of their summer jumping from job to job.
Throughout the book the three boys have little feuds with the landlord, Plotnick.
The three friends conquer obstacles everydaysuch as finding their stolen car or paying a hefty bill. But whatever it is it will keep you turning the pages.
I would definitely recommend this book to younger people, though adults would have fun reading it also. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Nothing like Korman's "Schooled".
I did not enjoy "Jake Reinvented", and this is not based on a comparison of "The Great Gatsby" because I have yet to read that one. I found the characters in JR flat, some of the plot elements were not believable, and the Jake's "secret" was really no big deal. Also, there was no particular appeal for me in reading page after page of a teenage party scene - one where most of them are getting wasted.
I may have been let down by JR because I so thoroughly enjoyed one of Korman's other books, "Schooled" - JR was no where, I mean NO WHERE near as enjoyable. Of course, this is all subjective, so give JR a try. You might like it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Jake Reinvented Book Review
In Jake Reinvented, Jake Garrett was a new kid who just moved into the area and is the kicker for the Broncos. And although he is the new kid that no one really knows, he becomes one of the most popular kids in our school. Besides Todd who was the Broncos quarterback, who was the most popular guy in the school. Ricky was there kicker and backup quarterback second to Todd. Everyone at school knows Jake for his wonder Friday night parties, and everyone is welcome at his Friday night get togethers. Every Friday night, everyone from school ends up being at Jakes house.
This book takes a few interesting twists by the end of the book, and some are surprising while others you can see coming. In the beginning you think that you can predict the outcome and how Jake will end up, but the actual ending my surprise you. I thought that the book was pretty interesting and it was easy to get hooked into reading. I enjoyed reading this book and I actually read it in one sitting. It was hard to put the book down once I started to read it. I thought that the author did a really good job writing this book. He did a good job hooking me, the reader, into the book to keep reading it.
It is a fast book and best for older kids; I wouldn't recommend it for readers younger then around eighth or ninth grade. I wouldn't recommend for young readers because of some mature content. But in the end I did enjoy reading this wonderful book by Gordon Korman.

1-0 out of 5 stars A terrible Remake!
Jake, Reinvented was such a disappointment! For any Gatsby lovers, don't read this book!Maybe I'm biased, but I love Gatsby and this book was just a poorly done carbon copy of the classic. My school librarian told me this was a supposedly a modern Gatsby, but I don't think she knew that it's basically a rip-off of the original.

4-0 out of 5 stars Jake, Reinvented
Jake, Reinvented

Jake Garrett's life is perfect. He has the most popular friends in F. Scott Fitzgerald High School, all the girls want to date him and he throws the biggest parties every Friday night! But, everything changes one night when things go a little too far at a party.

In Gordon Korman's realistic fiction novel, Jake, Reinvented, it tells a story about how someone who has so much can lose it all in one night.

Korman tells the story of Jake through the eyes of Jake's friend and kicker for the football team, Rick.At first in the story, Jake is a mysterious new kid in school who is quickly admired, and then soon becomes the most popular kid in school next to Todd, the starting quarterback.

Before Jake comes along, Rick is best friends with Todd, but he quickly grows attached to Jake. But there is one problem: Jake only has eyes for one girl in school, Didi, Todd's girlfriend. Then, one night at a party, Jake and Didi are seen walking off together and Todd loses his cool which sparks a controversy that turns everything upside down!

I would recommend this book to anyone from seventh to ninth grade and for anyone who likes realistic fiction books with a big twist.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not a newage classic, but still a good read
Somewhere among The Great Gatsby, Can't Buy Me Love and The New Guy, the story of the one guy that cares about the outcome of the nerd gets lost in the perfect ending. Jake, Reinvented tells the story of the nerd turned cool from the best friend's perspective.

When Jake Garrett moves to town and becomes the king of all parties, the fashion plate for guys, the biggest thing in high school football since the plastic mouth-guard, people start looking for the catch. That is everyone but Rick Paradise. Rick just sees a guy trying to fit in and win over the prettiest girl in town.

But when a party gets out of hand and high school infidelity is brought to light, even Rick's friendship can't save Jake from the scrutiny of the masses.

While Korman re-tells an old high school Cinderella story from a new perspective, it lacks the usual humor and human insight of most of his books. The ending, however, is not your normal nerd fairytale ending. Life is not perfect and things never wrap up in neat little packages, but there is always a hope for things yet to come. ... Read more
