Excerpt: Hunter Stockton Thompson (July 18, 1937 - February 20, 2005) was an American journalist and author. He is credited as the creator of Gonzo journalism, a style of journalism in which the reporters involve themselves in the written subject to the extent that they become central figures of the story. He was also known for his unrepentant lifelong use of alcohol, LSD, mescaline, cocaine, and cannabis among other substances, as well as his affinity for firearms, and his iconoclastic contempt for authoritarianism. On February 20, 2005, due to suffering a long bout of health...http://booksllc.net/?id=14328 ... Read more

Read more

Excerpt: Tristan Tzara (French pronunciation: ; born Samuel or Samy Rosenstock, also known as S. Samyro; April 16 1896December 25, 1963) was a Romanian and French avant-garde poet, essayist and performance artist. Also active as a journalist, playwright, literary and art critic, composer and film director, he was known best for being one of the founders and central figures of the anti-establishment Dada movement. Under the influence of Adrian Maniu, the adolescent Tzara became interested in Symbolism and co-founded the magazine Simbolul with Ion Vinea (with whom he also wrote experimental poetry) and painter Marcel Janco. During World War I, after briefly collaborating on Vinea's Chemarea, he joined Janco in Switzerland. There, Tzara's shows at the Cabaret Voltaire...More: http://booksllc.net/?id=36885 ... Read more

Excerpt: Carl Barks (March 27, 1901 August 25, 2000) was an American Disney Studio illustrator and comic book creator, who invented Duckburg and many of its inhabitants, such as Scrooge McDuck (1947), Gladstone Gander (1948), the Beagle Boys (1951), Gyro Gearloose (1952), Flintheart Glomgold (1956), John D. Rockerduck (1961) and Magica De Spell (1961). The quality of his scripts and drawings earned him the nicknames The Duck Man and The Good Duck Artist. Fellow comic writer Will Eisner called him "the Hans Christian Andersen of comic books." Barks was born in Merrill, Oregon to William Barks and his wife Arminta Johnson. He had an older brother named Clyde. His paternal grandfather was named David Barks and his maternal grandparents were Carl Johnson and his wife Suzanna Massey, but little else is known about his ancestors. According to Barks' description of his childhood, he was a rather lonely child. His parents owned one square mile (2.6 km²) of land that served as their farm. The nearest neighbor lived half a mile (800 m) away, but he was more an acquaintance to Barks' parents than a friend. The closest school was about two miles (3 km) away and Barks had to walk that distance every day. The rural area had few children, though, and Barks later remembered that his school had only about eight or ten students including him. He had high praise for the quality of the education he received...More: http://booksllc.net/?id=7345 ... Read more
