Astounding, wonderful, incredible read
This is truly the BEST book(and series)ever written. Kate Jacoby is extraordinarily talented, managing to turn the written word into an art form. She somehow combines just the right mix of description, imagery, dialogue, plot and action to create a clear and interesting world. She manages to convey the setting and surroundings clearly without resorting to massive information 'dumps' common with other writers I have read.
But aside from her writing talent, the story itself is wonderful. Set in another land in medievil times, there are sorcerors, kings, swords and oaths, all woven together in a complex and intriguing tale, that has many layers but is easy to follow. Jacoby has created a whole host of characters, and although it can be hard to remember who is who at first, they are all extremely well developed and created.
The main character, Robert of Dunlorn, is one of those strong, intense, 'I-know-something-you-don't-know' types, and is ofcourse tall, dark and handsome. You just can't help but like him.
This book is, for lack of a better word, perfect. It has everything you could ask for: great dialogue, characters, interseting plot with depth and even some love interest thrown in. Every true fantasy book fan should read it. I am only sad that Kate Jacoby is not more well-known.

An exciting story
A bit complicated but very intriguing storyline.
As always, the novel have no "real" conclusion - with meaning keep reading sequel, then 3rd book, etc. But almost everyone does the same lately...
Anyway, I still like it a lot.

Spellbinding
Although slow to get started this book soon drew me into its characters' lives and webs of intrigue. The characters develop marvelously throughout and when I reached the end of the book, I immediately had to get the next installment of Elita just to sate my curiosity. Of course, Jacoby has done a wonderful job to make sure that your curiosity won't be sated in the least until, I'm sure, the last installment in this wonderful series. Amazing
Everything I've made in this cookbook has been amazing.My favorites are the Refried Red Lentil Tostadas, Spinach Salad and Miso Noodle Soup.Some of the recipes take some time, others are quick.
I am vegetarian, and have cooked from this cookbook many times for meat eaters, always to rave reviews.
I am lucky to live close to Horizons, an amazing restaurant.I'm happy they've shared their unique cuisine and amazing recipes in this cookbook!

badly written recipes, never tested
The restaurant "Horizons" in Philly is a truly fantastic dining experience. Because of that I was very please when someone gave me this cook book as a gift. I am a professional chef specializing in recipe development, writing and testing - and after making 6 recipes in this book I feel quite certain that these recipes were never tested as written. Amounts are off, heat and salt levels range from mild to over-the-top strong, and (worst) very important details are left out. Recipes call for ingredients without describing how they should be used (like 16 oz seitan - no mention of strips, chopped, sliced - ???). These are talented chefs -they need a professional recipe writer to help them with their next book so that the reflection is up to their talents.

Amazing food
I was in Philly the other day and I bought this book.I am completely blown away by the recipes.When I made my first dish, my husband took one bite and said, "This is amazing."It makes me feel like I can be a vegan and still enjoy exotic tastes and cuisines.This book is a triumph!

Recipes to Impress EVERYONE With
I am so grateful to finally have a recipe book that I can depend on for entertaining guests (vegan or not). I have not been disappointed in any of the meals I've tried, and in fact, some of the recipes are staples (trust me, youwill become addicted to the tofu from the "Grilled Tofu Provencale" on page 106! My fiance and I have a supply of that in our fridge at most times during the grilling season).
My only complaint is that some of the ingredients are hard to find if you live in a small town; however, all the recipes are fairly simple and even easy once you get your hands on what you need, and in the end, the result is unbelievable.
If the authors happen to read this review, I would like to beg you to share your recipe for the Bistro Steak you serve in your restaurant. That meal is the best meal I have ever eaten in 32 years of eating!!

the best vegetarian cookbook
I have been vegetarian for 18 years, but after my first visit to Horizons in 2008, I gained a new perspective on cooking. My favorites are the sage mustard sauce and seitan, white bean cassoulet, and tofu with avocado sauce. I now grill tofu several times a week and started making my own seitan from vital wheat gluten (much better than the packaged seitan). I use an indoor grill pan on the stove (not the recommended charcoal, but it is such an improvement from the preparation I used in the past. Get this book!

Horizons; The cookbook
After eating at this wonderful restaurant, I had to buy their cookbook.I have enjoyed each dish that I've made from it.The big, bold flavors just make eating vegan dishes a delight and the recipes are easy to follow.

Best vegan cook book ever!
I bought this cook book after my first visit to Horizon's cafe when it was in Willow Grove, PA. The food was so good, I knew I had to have the recipes. I have made several items from it now, and I have yet to be disappointed. Many of the recipes include seitan, so if you aren't a seitan lover, many of the entrees won't be appealing. I've had meat eaters prefer my vegan jerk chicken wings to the real thing! ... Read more
