5-0 out of 5 stars sensuality scale is off the map
Wolf Mackenzie, being half Indian-Anglo, struggles to maintain his low key profile in a town where he is not accepted by its white inhabitants. His low key profile is abliterated when new teacher comes to town and changes his life forever. This is a really sensual read and it's kind of fun.

Mackenzie's Pleasure

Navy SEAL Zane Mackenzie was a pro. No mission had ever gotten the better of him—until now. Saving the ambassador's gorgeous daughter, Barrie Lovejoy, had been textbook—except for their desperate night of passion. And though his job as a soldier had ended with her freedom, his duties as a husband had only just begun. For he would sooner die than let the enemy harm the mother of his child.

Mackenzie's Magic

Talented trainer Maris Mackenzie was wanted for horse theft, but with no memory of that fateful day, she had little chance of proving her innocence or eluding the villains behind the prize stallion's disappearance. Her only hope for salvation? The stranger in her bed. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent !!
This is the kind of book that makes you want to be there !!! (with Wolf of course :-))

5-0 out of 5 stars Linda Howard Never Disappoints
Linda Howard writes about the male/female dynamic with a sure hand. The men are strong and honorable, as are the heroines. In fact, honor is at the heart of all of Ms. Howard's stories and the protagonists are true to their personal honor, no matter how tough it is.Mackenzie's Pleasure has good conflict and great passion.Zane is a man of calm decision and Barrie is a woman who thinks things through and does what she has to do, even if it means risking Zane's love.Mackenzie's Magic is not as well plotted but still very enjoyable. These are category romances so the development is less intense than Ms. Howard's single title novels, but these stories are sexy and fun to read.

5-0 out of 5 stars I love the Mackenzie's
I loved Zane and Maris' stories.Nick is a riot! But what can you expect from Zane's seed.Zane and Barrie are the perfect match.

4-0 out of 5 stars Like L. Howard's story?Try Remembrance by Jude Deveraux
I purchased Everlasting Love after reading customer reviews praising Linda Howard's story, Lake of Dreams.Reading it reminded me of Remembrance (1994) by Jude Deveraux. It is a full length novel about soul mates struggling to "get it right this time".Remembrance is both poignant and unforgettable. I highly recommend it!

3-0 out of 5 stars four average stories, but one's a keeper...
Five authors contribute to this volume.I bought it intitally because Iknew Jayne Anne Krentz, but her chapter is one of the weakest.Indeed, four of the five stories are pretty average, and definitely not keepers -but the fifth one...

Linda Howard's Lake of Dreams is a haunting, romantic, sexual tale which is definitely worth tracking down.I read theother stories once only, but I've reread Lake of Dreams many times and itis definitely a keeper...So buy all five, but you'll keep it for theone.

1-0 out of 5 stars Domestic abuse doesn't bring the"warm fuzzies!"

In this book, Howard is definitely thorough! All aspects of domestic abuse(verbal, physical, mental, and sexual includingmarital rape) are main components of this book. The only positive I have with this book is a lesson on WHAT NOT to look for in men...otherwise RUN!If you are into this type of plot, buy a whip and have at it.At least you'll have more backbone that the herione(or rather mindless, teary ragdoll!) Terribly revolting read...

1-0 out of 5 stars Should not have been reissued!
Like many other reviewers, I am a big LH fan. This definitely is not one of her best, IMO.However, it is a reissue and her writing is much better now.I usually keep and re-read all of her books, but I have only read some of the earlier ones that have been reissued once.Believe me, ATG was not her only early work that I did not enjoy. An Independent Wife, Against the Rules, Heartbreaker were others that I did not like.

I just wanted to say that many of the reviews posted here had me laughing soooo hard.I know that they were meant to be serious and I agreed with most of them, but the humor was fantastic.

1-0 out of 5 stars Only Howard book I've NEVER finished - Soooo BAD!
Not my usually lovable Linda Howard - an early bodice-ripping stinker!I've read everything Howard has written and went on Amazon to find anything else Linda Howard that I could get my hand out (i.e. early works, out of print stuff).I got a used copy and hated it so much that half-way through the book I literally threw it at the wall in disgust. The "hero" is chauvenistic jerk and the "heroine" is far too weak for my modern sensibilities.Rape is not sexy, and this book is a waste of money.

1-0 out of 5 stars The Only LH Book I've Ever Hated
STAY AWAY FROM THIS BOOK. I would give it 0 stars if I could.

There are already many overwhelming negative reviews but I have to add another one just so you know HOW BAD IT IS. Jessica is lovely but damaged and Nikolas is a narcissistic and crass bully. You would think in normal Linda Howard fashion they would grow for the better and learn to love, but Nickolas is horrendous and domineering--he all but forces Jessica to sleep with him at one point. He's not just unlikable, he's actually a bad person and her acceptance of a clearly abusive relationship is disgusting. I like the hero/heroine interaction in EVERY other Howard book but this one leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

***DO NOT JUDGE HER BY THIS BOOK. If this is the only one you've ever read, GO READ ANYTHING ELSE BY HER and you will love it!***

Sorry Linda, but 1 stinker out of 300 isn't so bad...

1-0 out of 5 stars Abuse that glitters?
The "hero" is abusive - there's just no getting around it. Even in the 1980's I don't think this type of behavior would be accepted. I also found it highly unbelievable that the heroine would continue seeing the hero after their first "date". That said, Linda Howard is a talented author and most of her work is truly worth reading. I am particularly fond of "To Die For" and highly recommend it. ... Read more

I fell in love with Zane Mackenzie! The way Mrs. Howard kept me spellbound from beginning to end really got me interested in her other books.Of all the Mackenzie books, this one is by far the best. The other about Maris was okay, but it is Zane's story that I can read and reread several times!Thank you Linda Howard for introducing me to Zane! Please keep the Mackenzie books coming!

These books arekeepers. I have them all and re-read them, they never fail to capture meall over again. If you want a great read pick up these books. You won't besorry. Linda Howard is wonderful and her books are great. Happy reading.

5-0 out of 5 stars Maris was good
Mackenzie's magic is the first and only book by Linda Howard which is translated to finnish. absolutely the best scene is about these five Mackenzie's standing there and watching the Maris husband. Then comes Maryand takes care of the situation. And what do these big guys say: Yes ma'am.Like in the old times at school.

After reading Magic in finnish, I readMackenzie family in english (...and then Kell Sabin, Medina...). Thinkabout Maris. She is got a warrior as a father and as a brother. She can'tfall in love with the ordinary guy, so she finds a FBI-agent. Sure Thebeginning of the book was excellent. "Hi, I am sleeping with an almostnaked hunk in some hotel room, I can't remember a thing. We have stolen ahorse." Then she notices that the hunk wears boxer underwear, nothingwhite in cotton. And knows he is a cop. Absolutely hilarious.

Zane andBarrie fall in love in a day. Characters were good and there were enoughadventure. Zane is a typical alpha-male warrior who wants to protect hiswoman and his child. YESSSSS!

can I give them more stars ;-). ... Read more

Indulge your HEART'S DESIRE with your most beloved authors in this very special collection. Selected from the heartwarming anthology Everlasting Love, these remarkable tales are treasures to cherish -- and reminders that love is always just a heartbeat away....

Jayne Ann Krentz

"One of the hottest writers in romance today" (USA Today) continually lends her master touch to tales of grand passion laced with intrigue. Here she again delights readers with her "tremendous talent" (Detroit Free Press), as in modern-day Washington, treachery ignites an unlikely affair of the heart in "Connecting Rooms"....

Linda Howard The celebrated author who "knows what romance readers want" (Affaire de Coeur) and whose "unforgettable novels [are] richly flavored with scintillating sensuality and high-voltage suspense" (Romantic Times), now whisks you to a bewitching country "Lake of Dreams," where a woman is lured into a dangerous embrace....

Linda Lael Miller

In "Resurrection," the writer whose "talent knows no bounds" (Rendezvous), travels back to 1880s Montana, where an abandoned bride searches for a love she thought forever lost in a story that makes it easy to see that "the sweetest kind of magic comes from the pen of Linda Lael Miller!" 5-0 out of 5 stars Very Good deal for new copy of this title.
Very Good deal for new copy of this title. "Connecting Rooms" get you in the mood for the other romance stories following it. I bought this book for a class. The first story was good considering I do not normally read romance novels. Now I think I finish the rest of the book for enjoyment.

1-0 out of 5 stars Save your $$ - Re-issue
While I REALLY liked the stories contained in this book - I was disappointed to discover this was a reissue of stories previously issued in the book "Everlasting Love"."Everlasting" included two additional stories although it was issued in 1995.Good marketing ploy however.

3-0 out of 5 stars Lake of Dreams
If you want the book for the Linda Howard story (Lake of Dreams) you're better off getting Strangers in the Night. It has Lake of Dreams, Whiteout, and Blue Moon, all by Howard.I really enjoyed Lake of Dreams and highly recommend it.

3-0 out of 5 stars Read for Linda Howard.
I agree with the reviewer who said read Lake of Dreams and ditch the rest. I've never been fond of Linda Lael Miller and her short story in this just reaffirmed that for me. Also, for the Lake of Dreams story, buy it in theEverlasting Love Collection. It's cheaper.

5-0 out of 5 stars 5-Stars for Howard's "Duncan's Bride" ONLY
This is a "three-fer" republication of Linda Howard's "Duncan's Bride" (the whole reason I purchased the book), Elizabeth Lowell's "Chain Lightening," and Kasey Michael's poorly written, waste of ink and paper, "Popcorn and Kisses."

As always (almost always...Killing Time and Angle Creek were not worth re-reading in my estimation) Linda Howard's story was wonderful. Madelyn and Reese Duncan are a great couple. This is a true romance novel. No suspense or anything to dilute the building of the relationship between the two characters. The secondary characters were wonderful, too. This is the first of two connected books - the second being "Loving Evangeline."

"Chain Lightening" is a ho-hum Elizabeth Lowell book. The setting, Lady Elliot Island (actual place off the Great Barrier Reef near Australia), is exciting (I want to go). The story could have been so much more - as Elizabeth Lowell has proven countless times, as she is a stellar author without peer, at times - but it wasn't. I would not have purchased this book alone.

My opening statement pretty much clarified my opinion of Kasey Michael's offering "Popcorn and Kisses." If I could cut it out of the book without ruining it, I would.

3-0 out of 5 stars Three Tales of Lost and Found...Love Does Conquer All....
First up is Linda Howard's 'Duncan's Bride'.Mind you, this was written late in the 80's, so the content is 80's male chavanistic romance; which I am not complaining about by any means, its just a different style of writing, but some people are sensitive to it, so I thought I might warn those out there. But anyone who's read Howard knows even her older novels are amazing and worth the read.
Extremely heartwrenching and full of distrust and turmoil, the two characters worm themselves right into your heart.Mail-order bride Maddie moves to Montana answering an ad in the paper from divorced Reese Duncan who is looking for a hardworking wife to live on his failing ranch with him in name only.(note, this isnt a historical, its based in the 1980's)What he gets is a beautiful woman who drives him crazy and surprises him with her heart and devotion.Maddie makes it her mission to heal his bitter soul and to become more than his wife in name only.I give this story 5 Stars.....

The second is by Elizabeth Lowell called 'Chain Lightening'.A woman named Mandy has lost everyone she loved in a horrific plane crash over the ocean years ago and is still reeling from it.Her boss tricks her into taking a much needed vacation to the Great Barrier Reef hoping to heal her wounds, what she doesn't expect is to get shacked up with enigmatic Damon Sutter in the process.Good writing, but I couldn't get myself interested in the story, it moved too slowly for my tastes. The tale was riddled with angst and too much talking. In the end, I would give it three stars...

Third in the book and last was Kasey Michael's 'Popcorn and Kisses'.Not sure why this story was mixed in with the others since it really wasn't related plot-wise.
It was an 'okay' tale about an old drive-in theatre and two mismatched people trying to save it.It seemed to move very slow and I became bored instantly with the plot and dialog. The writing was decent, the plot was much to be desired.Very tame and I have to agree with another reviewer on this being very 'Sweet Valley Highish'.It did not fit in with Howard and Lowell's steamy stories. Not sure how the characters had to 'find home' again in this story either, but oh well.I gave this one two stars...

4-0 out of 5 stars Great reads for a new romance reader!
Having read only a few novels so far by Nora Roberts and Linda Howard, I do not have the reservations about reading a compilation of novels already previously published that some of the other reviewers have.Since several of the novels I've read so far were originally published in the mid-1980s, I have learned to read the original published dates in the front pages of each book, to give myself some perspective on the time in which the book was written.
Even though I am new to reading romance novels, I greatly enjoy Linda Howard's work.Unfortunately, my last experience with Howard's work before "Duncan's Bride" was "Almost Forever," a real stinker as far as I'm concerned. So I was a little reserved about reading "Duncan's Bride."Now this is my favorite Howard book thus far.
Most romances I've read so far revolve around a couple meeting, finding that they each have reservations about one another. Then they have sex within a week or two of meeting, and are married within a couple of months.End of story. But "Duncan's Bride" is far different from the typical formula. It deals with the characters over the course of a year or so of their lives.Madelyn finds rancher Reese Duncan's personal ad both revolting and intriguing at the same time. She travels to Montana to meet him, and winds up marrying him after a few days- more a marriage of convenience than a soul match. She figures he will warm up to her soon, but he was very scarred by his previous marriage to a money-grubbing woman who took most of his ranch, along with his heart. Both characters are highly complicated, and Howard's character development is great for such a relatively short novel (only about 200 pages). The sex scenes, true to Howard's reputation, are very steamy, but the read leading up to the sex scenes are well worth the time as well.
"Chain Lightning" is also very well developed. As I had never read anything by Elizabeth Lowell, I had no idea what to expect, but this book was very well paired with "Duncan's Bride."Although neither character seems ready for any kind of relationship, they work together well.Mandy is severely traumatized from the deaths in an ocean plane crash of both her husband and her unborn baby, and she nearly drowned as well. Now the former oceanographer is terrified of the sea that she once loved.
Unwilling to tell anyone about her fears, she is sent on a surprise trip to the Great Barrier Reef with Damon Sutter by her boss, who does not know of Mandy's past.Sutter, an adventurer, feels that he will be terribly bored being forced to stay in a small tent with Mandy, the bundle of fears. But time brings them closer together, making for a heartwarming story, and some very hot sex scenes as well.
"Popcorn and Kisses" is seemingly mismatched with the other two books in this compilation.I won't say that Kasey Michaels is a bad writer, because she's not.I enjoyed reading about the seemingly mismatched Sharon and Zachary St. Clair. But after having read two very steamy novels, "Popcorn" was very tame- in movie rating terms, "Duncan's Bride" and "Chain Lightning" were rated-R (or perhaps even NC-17), while "Popcorn and Kisses" was PG.Perhaps this would have been better paired with similarly tame novels.Having just read the other two novels, "Popcorn" reminded me more of "Sweet Valley High" than an actual romance novel.
If you have not read any of these books in the past, this is a great deal to get all three at once.My recommendation, though, would be to read "Popcorn and Kisses" first rather than last.It really is a good book; it's just a let-down after the steaminess of its predecessors.

3-0 out of 5 stars Take care : stories written in 1988 and 1990
I did rate only three, not because they are not well written, but I do believe it is tricking the reader to put is "published in 2002 and writen by Lowel, etc. when in fact they just take old stories and put them together with a new title.

I would like to be sure when a book is writen, the style had changed and so the writer's skills too. When I buy an older of her book, it is because I want to compare. But I do want to know before I buy what is in it, when it is written.

4-0 out of 5 stars Have read 2 out of the 3 stories too...
I also bought this book without a clue, thus was misled by the packaging, i.e. title and cover. It is actually a reprint of past Silhouette titles by Linda Howard and Elizabeth Lowell, plus a new story, Popcorn and Kisses, by Kasey Michaels.
Duncan's Bride is my favorite mail order bride story as Howard portrayed the spunky and hardworking Madelyn Patterson very well. The love scenes between Maddie and Duncan are hot! Had read Chain Lightning by Lowell some years ago and it is still as tantalizing as ever. Lowell sizzles with her trademark passion in this story set in the Great Barrier Reef, and you can really feel pulled in by the tale of Mandy and Sutter. This novel is definitely value for money if you have not read the stories by Howard and Lowell and would like to give them a try. I would suggest though, that the publishers be more ethical in future and let readers know in advance what the soon-to-be released books are about, to save the unnecessary grief for unsuspecting readers out there. Otherwise, this collection would've easily earned 5 stars from me. ... Read more

I really wished I had checked this site for reviews before purchasing this book.I am really tired of previously released stories being repackaged with other previously printed stories and sold as something new.I had already read the Bond story but not the Linda Howard story so it wasn't a complete waste of money - although a story from the 80's is a bit out of date.I don't think we should have to open the book to see if/when a story had been previously published - but I will in the future.Harlequin must love this marketing tactic.

4-0 out of 5 stars Under The Mistletoe:Bluebird Winter/Naughty or Nice
I was pleasantly surprised when my order was delivered so fast and was in the condition that was promised in the listing.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book....Great Price!
This product was just as described and a much better bargain than buying it at the store.

2-0 out of 5 stars "Classics" to avoid
"Bluebird Winter" by Linda Howard was first published in 1987 and it shows its age. A pregnant woman goes into labor prematurely in the middle of a snowstorm, and an ob-gyn specializing in premie births just happens to find her on the side of the road and helps her. After she gives birth, doc decides that he absolutely must have both the baby and her mother - despite knowing absolutely nothing about mom - and sets about manipulating and coercing mom into a marriage of convenience. Even though the doc's controlling and manipulative, mom comes to realize that it's just because he loves her and wants to take care of her. Blech.

"Naughty or Nice?" by Stephanie Bond was first published in 1998, and features a heroine who is too stupid to live and a hero who thinks she's just cute and adorable anyway. Our heroine of this story is the general manager of a quirky San Francisco hotel in danger of corporate downsizing. The hero is the man in charge of determining whether or not the hotel is up to corporate standards. A promising premise quickly disintegrates into ridiculousness, stupidity, and frequent eye-rolling. If you're a fan of Bond's TSTL heroines, you'll likely enjoy this story, but I recommend avoiding it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good combination
This is a reprint of "Heartbreaker", but since I never read itbefore, I got to enjoy it as well as the other stories.Good story and agreat plot. The fine line between hate and love is what starts this storyin the beginning, but then things change, and it goes beyond the line.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Linda Howard Classic
Since I'm an avid Linda Howard fan, I couldn't resist buying this book.Heartbreaker is a sequel to Midnight Rainbow and Diamond Bay, and was written in 1987.Diamond Bay fans may remember a rancher named John Rafferty who helps Rachel Jones and Kell Sabin fight off the bad guys.Heartbreaker is about Rafferty and a desperate socialite-turned-rancher who proves irresistable. While Heartbreaker lacks the sophistication of Linda Howard's later novels, it's good entertainment. The other two books in the anthology can't hold a candle to Ms. Howard's contribution, but the book is worth buying just to read Heartbreaker. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Overload
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. If you are looking for reality, look elsewhere. It's a short fast-paced novella. It is a quick read that is fun.

1-0 out of 5 stars yes, bad!
I completely agree - bad, bad book. What a dissappointment for Linda Howard. There was a reason Elizabeth broke up with Tom - he was controlling and domineering. An extemely good reason to stay away from him.You never believed that she loved him. There wasn't a good reason to.

1-0 out of 5 stars Just really bad
Elizabeth and Tom had a brief romance at one time, then she dropped him with no explanation. Making matters difficult for the pair is the fact that they have offices in the same building, and one evening, both find themselves trapped in the building during a power outage caused by a heat wave. Elizabeth just wants out, Tom wants answers. Faster than you can say "what a stupid..." they have their clothes off (it's hot) and soon are mounting each other left and right. In typical Howard fashion, the male is dominant and the female is a doormat, and after a night of hot sex decide they're soul mates.

Howard's dated story reads like an entry in an anthology, and is simply not good enough to warrant a separate printing. The dialogue is weak, the character development minimal, and at 144 pages (large print no less), you would be better off borrowing it from the library. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars To Die For
Blair Mallory is the stereotypical southern beauty from North Carolina with blonde hair, and a smile that could stop traffic. Being a former cheerleader, she thought she would use the money from her divorce settlement to open a gym. After all, who better to keep the locals fit, trim, and looking good? So far her gym had been a huge success, but she did have to deal regularly with a thorn in her side by the name of Nicki Goodwin. Nicki was out to copy Blair on everything from clothes to hair color. When Blair was leaving the gym late one night after closing, and saw Nicki's car, she thought she was in for a confrontation. She wished it were that simple because while she couldn't see inside the car, a man was standing outside, and before Blair realized what was happening, he started shooting at her. She ran for the gym door, and called 911 from inside. As it turns out, Nicki was murdered, and of course Lt Jefferson Wyatt Bloodsworth was on site to investigate. She hadn't seen him in the two years since they had dated, but he was looking really good. JW had dropped her like a hot potato without any warning, and that still grated on Blair because she thought of him often.

When Blair was shot in the arm while on her way to her parent's house, Wyatt stepped in and took over. He brought her to his home to recover since he was afraid her life was now in danger. It wasn't until she was settled into his home that she discovered he had no intentions of letting her leave. As he put it, he had exactly where he wanted her, and she wasn't getting away. Blair received her next shock when he started introducing her as his fiancé. For someone that had never proposed, she thought he had alot of nerve. Wyatt worked diligently to capture the killer, and once he had a confession, he thought Blair would be safe. The failure of her brakes was his next clue that this mess wasn't over. Her brake lines had been deliberately cut. Wyatt was determined to do whatever it took to keep Blair safe, and out of harms way.

This was an entertaining read with alot more humor than I had expected. Blair's character was completely over the top though, and that detracted from the story. Between that and the narration in first person, it was overwhelming. The murder plot was the biggest letdown. It was as if it were an afterthought contrived and forced on everyone that left a huge hole in the overall story. ... Read more
