She was born into a working-class family in England where, as a young woman, she was involved in the militant struggle for votes for women. When she arrived in British Columbia in 1911, she quickly became a champion for the rights of women and workers. In this book, Irene Howard chronicles Gutteridge's life and struggles for these causes - for women's suffrage, for jobs for the unemployed and union recognition, for the minimum wage, and for low-cost housing. Great handbook for any PE teacher
We were required to buy this book in college as part of the Health and Exercise Science department requirement.At the time I thought the price was a little steep but when you look at the information in the book you realize that it is "one of those books you will use forever".I have the 8th edition so I do not know what has been updated but I do see that it was first published in 1951..It covers 26 sports/activities.It is worth the investment, especially when you need to know the exact dimensions of a tennis court....
