Product Description
A sizzling novel of romance and suspense...

When Elizabeth Stuart searched for a quiet, peaceful home for herself and her son, Still Creek seemed perfect.Nestled in the heart of lush Amish farmlands, this small, idyllic Minnesota town would allow her to put a shattering divorce behind her.But the locals were noticeably cool to the newcomer--who was rumored to be a gold-digger--especially when she started stirring up controversy with her newspaper. And now when a murdered body literally falls at her feet, she has a slight credibility problem...particularly with the arrogant sheriff whose blue eyes seem to know her darkest secrets.

An ex-pro athlete who had returned to Still Creek a hero, Sheriff Dane Jantzen doesn't have much use for the media--especially not in the form of this glamorous, gutsy outsider who spells trouble with every word she prints. So when she becomes his suspect in a vicious crime, the last thing Dane expects is the jolt of attraction at their every encounter.

Elizabeth would soon challenge Dane's every assumption, including the one that he's better off without love. But as they risk everything to uncover the truth, the current of evil that contaminates Still Creek threatens to pull them both under... ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Tami Hoag
Have read some recent Tami Hoag and really liked it.Decided to go back to some of her earlier mystery work. She started great and just seems to be getting better with age.

1-0 out of 5 stars This was truly appalling
This was truly appalling! All the characters were two dimensional and the plot was completely transparent. This is in fact a cheap romance masquerading as a thriller. Very disappointing and I would not recommend that anyone buy this.

3-0 out of 5 stars Romance More Than Suspense...
I am a fan of Tami Hoag and her later works. I picked this book up thinking it would be a mystery/suspense. It was a romantic/suspense, but leaned heavily towards formula romance. In that genre, it enjoyable though it is predictable. Tami Hoag has improved through the years, this was one of her earlier books, first released in 1991 and re-released in 1999. A lot of the dialogue was simplistic and repetitive. The main character called everyone "Sugar" which soon became annoying. Once I got past those issues with the book, it was an enjoyable read. I do like her later books better.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not impressed...
Really not impressed with her writing. Don't know if I'll bother to read any more of her books. I've read a few already and have not been too impressed.I just wanted a good scary book! This one was too much romance thrown in.

1-0 out of 5 stars Like a Broken Record
The only thing that has ever allowed me to distinguish this title from the rest of this author's very similar pulp is the creep Amish guy.Other than that, this book is like reading the same thing with characters that just so happen to have different names.

There's the Strong, Opinionated, Smart woman doing a Man's Job, who is better at these things than anyone else, not to mention that she's Beautiful.

There's the Bitter, Ex-Jock/Cop/Hero, who's coming back into his own following a Personal Disaster, usually he's been Widowed. He's sexy and a Man's Man.

Put these two cookie cutter charaters together, there's some hot sex and a convoluted mystery, and the same miserable things in every one of these books.Yawn. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Fun & Romantic
I liked this book.I found the characters to be amusing and real.Ok, so I wasn't on the edge of my seat the whole time but loved the humor and found the story line touching.

5-0 out of 5 stars I enjoyed this book
I really enjoyed this book. Tami Hoag put a little different twist in this one, and I found it amusing.

1-0 out of 5 stars Dire
I've been a fan of Tami Hoag for a while now and I'm steadily working my way through her generally excellent back catalogue. I stumbled across this book in a secondhand store and I hate to say it, but it wasn't worth the money. The storyline is ridiculously cliched and contrived. It reminded me of Mills & Boon: the beautiful but wounded heroine and handsome hero with a tragic past falling in love yet stubbornly resisting. The ghosts are as believable and scary as the ones from an episode of Scooby Doo.
I had to force myself to finish it and it's hard to believe the same author wrote Ashes To Ashes, A Thin Dark Line, Cry Wolf, Still Waters, etc. Your time and money would be far better spent buying those books than this one.

5-0 out of 5 stars I loved this story!
I thought this was a terrific book.I have read it a few times and each time that I do, the storyline gets more and more enjoyable.Like I said before, I love this writer, she's such a talent!

3-0 out of 5 stars Just OK
I loved Keeping Company, Heart of Gold and Reilly's Return, so when I found this book, and saw it was Bryan, I thought it'd be just as great as the others. Not so. This book was sort of boring, and there was no spark between the main characters. I only finished this book to see what the other characters were up to and what happened to them. I do adore Tami Hoag's books but this one, ahh, well we'll leave it at that. ... Read more

Product Description
With this new thriller, The New York Times bestselling author Tami Hoag delivers her own message to suspense fans everywhere: Don't turn off the lights, and keep reading if you dare. From the gritty streets of Los Angeles to its most protected enclaves of prestige and power to the ruthless glamour of Hollywood, a killer stalks his prey. A killer so merciless no one in his way is safe—not even the innocent.

At the end of a long day battling street traffic, bike messenger Jace Damon has one last drop to make. But en route to delivering a package for one of L.A.'s sleaziest defense attorneys, he's nearly run down by a car, chased through back alleys, and shot at. Only the instincts acquired while growing up on the streets of L.A. allow him to escape with his life—and with the package someone wants badly enough to kill for.

Jace returns to Lenny Lowell's office only to find the cops there, the lawyer dead, and Jace himself considered the prime suspect in the savage murder. Suddenly he's on the run from both the cops and a killer, and the key to saving himself and his ten-year-old brother is the envelope he still has—which holds a message no one wants delivered: the truth.

In a city fueled by money, celebrity, and sensationalism, the murder of a bottom-feeding mouthpiece like Lenny Lowell won't make the headlines. So when detectives from the LAPD's elite robbery/homicide division show up, homicide detective Kev Parker wants to know why. Parker is on the downhill slide of a once-promising career, and he doesn't want to be reminded that he used to be one of the hotshots, working cases that made instant celebrities of everyone involved. Like the case of fading retty-boy actor Rob Cole, accused of the brutal murder of his wife, Tricia Crowne-Cole, daughter of one of the most powerful men in the city, L.A.'s latest "crime of the century."

Robbery/Homicide has no reason to be looking at a dead small-time scumbag lawyer or chasing a bike messenger...unless there's something in it for them. Maybe Lenny Lowell had a connection to something big enough to be killed for. Parker begins a search for answers that will lead him to a killer—or the end of his career. Because if there's one lesson he's learned over the years, it's that in a town built on fantasy and fame, delivering the truth can be deadly.

4-0 out of 5 stars Worth a one-time read . . .
This novel jumps into the action with a seedy lawyer's murder and the unsuspecting bicycle messenger a witness, still carrying his delivery package and no one to deliver it to - except the police, and no way that is happening. No way will Jace Damon jeopardize his life or the life of his ward and younger brother Tyler. Or the kindly Chens, who have generously taken them into their home in Chinatown. So, who to trust? Kill the Messenger carries its weight throughout the first two-thirds of the book, then the story gets a bit lackluster. The protags are likeable, easily related to, caught in "real life" situations. But I thought Hoag could've done more with the baddies in this one, expanded on them a bit, rounded out the characters more. Granted, there is a surprise ending - but it left me feeling deflated. Overall, in my humble opinion, Kill the Messenger is worth a one-time read. It's not one of those memorable novels I'll go back to in a few months and read again, nothing like her Prior Bad Acts or her earlier works like Dark Paradise and Cry Wolf. Hey, but I'm still a fan.

5-0 out of 5 stars On the Run in L.A.
Jace Damon is a bike messenger in Los Angeles who is working to support his very bright younger brother. He's saving money to send the lad to law school. The boys are orphans who live under the radar on the outskirts of Chinatown. Their mother was sort of the paranoid type who you often hear about on Art Bell's Coast to Coast radio programs. Actually sometimes I wonder if these days being paranoid might not just be a good idea. Well, anyway, when Mom passed on to her heavenly reward, she left no records of her boys, so there are no child protective service people or social workers who are aware of their existence.

One day Jace makes a pickup from sleazy lawyer Leonard Lowell, however when he gets to the drop off point he finds it's a vacant lot. Someone shoots at him, then give chase and Jace gets away. Somebody wants that package very badly. So badly that the next day they kill Lawyer Lowell and now Jace is in trouble deep. Can he find out who killed the lowlife lawyer before the lowlife killers find him? Can the cops find Jace before he gets himself into a casket? Two great reasons for reading Ms. Hoags unstoppable, not putdownable thriller.

There are lots of chase scenes, twists and turns in this story. There is a reason why they call Tami Hoag the Queen of Suspense. Pick up this book, read the first page, but make sure you've cleared your calendar. Don't say I didn't warn you.

4-0 out of 5 stars finally, a good book to read
This is the first time I have read a book by Hoag, and it will not be the last.
Yes there are some unbelievable things that you have to go with. The detective and his "secret" job, the IA officer being so obviously out of place, Jace being so afraid of the police.
But the writer does at least make those things plausible, and the storyline fits.
There were some slow moments when the story got bogged down in details that didnt push the story forward.
Overall, its a quick enjoyable read. Hoag is really good at building character with dialogue.
I found the characters to be well rounded and likeable. you wanted them to win.
The ending is definitely a little forced, a little too much of a surprise.

4-0 out of 5 stars Things are in Constant Flux
The book is very well written with many divergent stories and characters that the writer is able to skillfully bring together as the book progresses. The writer spends a good part of the book in laying the groundwork for the story. A reader who is impatient might have difficulties getting int the story. When the book takes off, it becomes a real page turner and os a most satisfying read. The protagonists are very well developed, though this is not the case with many of the secondary and tertiary characters. The writer has the ability to interject humor into this work and serves as an excellent diversion for the reader. The twists are very well done and this reviewer was kept guessing throughout the work. It is very well done and is recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good Thriller
The poor messenger gets himself into a bind because he was making his last delivery of the day and ends up finding his client dead.

He and his brother are very poor and he tried to keep his brother safe from harm.

Product Description
#1 New York Times bestselling author Tami Hoag mixes passion, politics, heartbreak, and humor in this powerful classic novel ignited by a man and woman whose desire for each other could lead them both to ruin.

They were totally wrong for each other. A romantic odd couple. It was clear at first sight. Bronwynn Prescott Pierson was a jet-setting socialite, a one-time fashion icon, and now a runaway bride. Wade Grayson was a straitlaced, ambitious congressman from the American heartland. They couldn’t have had less in common and more to lose by their accidental meeting in the Vermont woods, where they’d each gone in hopes of escaping the past.

Both drawn to the ruins of the old Foxfire estate, the woman from Venus and the man from Washington were playing a dangerous game with the most volatile and unpredictable of human emotions. And when it all blew up, the press would be there to broadcast the disaster to the world. But what their enemies didn’t count on was that the power that drew them together would always be a little stronger than anything—or anyone—that would try to drive them apart. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Mismatched.. Voice
This is not a bad story, even if the plot is predictable. It's light and entertaining, not a bad summer read. The thing that annoyed me is the narrator's voice when she's channeling 'Wade'. I don't mind her other voices, but as Wade is the main male character, her exaggerated/hoarse low voice just came across rather comical and made him sound dim-witted. It just grated on my nerves. Granted this is a personal preference, but I would recommend sampling the audio if you're considering buying the audiobook.

4-0 out of 5 stars Mismatch
Mismatch by Tami Hoag. I thought this book was very cute and at some points I did laugh out loud. I think this would be good if you need an easy, quick book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Mismatch
Great!! The CD was in great condition and I really, really enjoyed listening to it on the way to and from work.
I love Tami Hoag books and this one was great.

1-0 out of 5 stars Buyer beware!
Mismatch is being marketed as if it were a new Tami Hoag book, typical of her recent mystery offerings. It is not.Several of her older, light-weight romance style books have been re-packaged and are being offered as if new presumably to capitalize on her current reputation. This is the second time in the past few months that I fell for this.

Mismatch's publication date is 2008.After I received it and read the first few pages, I could immediately tell that this was definitely not something that I would normally read.I checked the inside cover and knew why.The Copyright date for the book is 1989.The Copyright date for the "Cover image" is 2008.Old book, new cover.

The age of the book alone would not have caused me to give it the 1 Star rating.Lots of terrific reads are older than that. And, the basic premise was okay, if unoriginal -- two incompatible people are thrown together and despite their difference, are irresistably drawn to each other. The core problem for me was that there was not much else to the book. The plot was almost non-existent, the character development was shallow (and it is a stretch to even reference characterization at all with respect to this book), and the writing was completely uninspired.Other than the mundane descriptions of mutual lust, the most exciting thing that happens here is a sheep chewing up the pages of a report that then has to be re-copied and sent again.

Spoiler Alert - Just joking. There can't be a spoiler. From the minute the two characters meet on Page 7 and the silly descriptions of their desire begin on Page 11, you already know what the outcome will be.And the journey getting there could not duller. ... Read more

#1 New York Times bestselling author Tami Hoag mixes mystery and romance in this moving classic novel of a missing woman and the search that brings together the unlikeliest of lovers.…

She was a blond goddess, a box office megastar. Every woman wanted to be her; every man wanted to bed her. But over a year ago Devon Stafford vanished without a trace. As a biographer, Jake Gannon had taught himself to follow the clues of a person’s life story like a detective. As an ex-Marine, he was accustomed to being firmly in control. But when his car died in a little town called Mare’s Nest on the Carolina coast, he had to admit he’d come to a dead end.

There he met a .38-toting tow-truck driver named Dixie La Fontaine. She was no celebrity, but Dixie had an irresistible sex appeal all her own. What did this down-to-earth woman know about a missing movie star? Surprisingly, quite a lot. And Jake was going to uncover it all…if Dixie didn’t end up shooting him first. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars An Early Hoag Favorite
Heart of Dixie captures the phenomenon of a beloved Hollywood starlett Devon Stafford, whose final role is an astonishing disappearing act. On the hunt for this manufactured actress, biographer Jake Gannon breaks down in his precious Porsche along the beautiful Carolina coast. Stranded and mechanically incompetent, the nearest town of Mare's Nest dispatches Dixie La Fontaine, a captivating poficient towtruck driver to the rescue. The dapper metropolitan is shocked by her female presence and expertise not to mention awestruck by her incredible natural beauty.

Many humorous altercations break out followed by escalating sensual innuendo as Gannon is brought back to quaint little Mare's Nest. The lead and local characters are well seasoned and vividly developed. You can feel yourself sitting in a booth at the Magnolia Bar tasting the local flavors. All the meanwhile a tumultous romance develops between Gannon and La Fontaine. While falling madly in love for each other, the guilt is mounting from both Jack and Dixie as they are each harboring a secret from one another.

While Heart of Dixie lacks the intensity and depth of my top Hoag favorites Cry Wolf and Lucky's Lady, it is still an excellent read. A very quick read at that. I completed this one within a few hours in two nights. The beautiful scenery and down to earth atmosphere gives you that home sweet home yearning. As a desert girl I long for the shoreline, so a romantic story like this is a treasured escape. Moreover, the ending is entirely worth reading the book for! A brilliantly beautiful finale to this lovestory to tug at your heartstrings.

2-0 out of 5 stars Cute but no depth
Cute story the characters are sweet, but very predictable.Interesting to see where Tami Hoag has come from and to see how much she has grown as an author. Not my favorite of her early romances, but it was light hearted and a quick read.

2-0 out of 5 stars Light entertainment
A cute story, predictable ending. If you're in the mood for light entertainment you'll enjoy this book.

1-0 out of 5 stars Waste of time and money
This was one of those books I wish I could get a refund on. It's horrible, boring, and predictable. More like a dime store romance. Total waste of time and money.

5-0 out of 5 stars Heart of Dixie
Tami Hoag romance novel "Heart Of Dixie" was a story of a Hollywood start who wants out of the limelight.Devon was one of those stars that everyone wanted to be like and be with.Being the 'it' girl ended up getting her friend killed.Because of that she deicdes to move and disappears from the scene. Then there's Jake who's trying to write her biography. His car stops in a small town and meets Dixie. There a story of romance and mystery begans to unfold. To keep from telling you the ending I will only say this, it's a nice plot and story.Go read it!!!

1-0 out of 5 stars Back cover promises suspense. Novel delivers romance.
I feel ripped off. The headline on the back cover describes Tami Hoag as "one of the most intense suspense writers around," then goes on to describe the plot of CRY WOLF: "In the rural parishes of Louisiana's French Triangle, young women are disappearing one by one." Never having read anything by Tami Hoag, I inferred from the back cover description that this was going to be a detective/suspense novel, i.e., what I was looking for, but it couldn't have been any more of a romance novel if the front cover had featured a Generic Hot Man without Shirt (actually, I wish Shirtless Guy had been on the cover, so I would have known enough not to pick the book up).

The main drama consists of the two lead characters perseverating almost constantly over regrets of their individual pasts, and for the first half of the book, it's the same info over and over, rather than progressive, logical exposition and plot advancement. The plot doesn't actually happen until you're 200-300 pages in (I've just hit the mid-200s). I am reminded of writing book reports in fourth grade, saying the same thing over and over in a different way until I reached 500 words.

How do you pronounce "Hoag" btw? HO-ag? Hoge?

5-0 out of 5 stars Entranced
When I worked as a book associate a decade ago, I randomly picked up A Think Dark Line by Tami Hoag - and was addicted. More titles of Hoag's soon followed...however, I never did get around to Cry Wolf until a couple of months ago. Believe me, I was more than enthralled with this piece. I was so drawn in to this story and its characters (especially Mr. Boudreaux, of course) that months later, I am STILL swimming in this story...and Mr. Boudreaux. I have already scheduled myself to re-read this book a year from now (as well as Lucky's Lady: a close tie). It is saying a lot whenever I declare a 'favorite' from Ms. Hoag. And I most definitely declare Cry Wolf as the victor in this #1 winning slot.

Tami Hoag knows how to keep her readers hooked so they finish her stories in one to two sittings. The suspence and romance are unmatched by other authors I have tried to find to hold me over until Hoag emits another winning work. Her characters tend to stay with you long after you have finished the book, only longing to return and hoping for a sequel or more.

Cry Wolf kept me on pins and needles guessing from beginning to end [a very rare and superior trait of Hoag's, especially here], and enraptured in the intensified, intricately woven romantic allure between Jack and Laurel.

The added bonus of a mildly brief education in the Cajun language and culture is the icing on the cake (as well as in Lucky's Lady).

1-0 out of 5 stars Too much sex
A major theme of this book is sex in its many different forms. Another is sexual attraction and dissipation among different kinds of people. If you like reading this kind of stuff, have at it.I couldn't make it through the book, even though I like mysteries, and there is supposed to be a mystery buried in the book, somewhere.

5-0 out of 5 stars Worth the price of admission!
I love several things about this book.

The setting--hot and sultry with the swamp and history of Louisiana's French Triangle deeply embedded. The views of Cajuns along with their fascinating language pitted against the high society is conflicting.

The plot is decent, but almost an afterthought. The characters consume most of this story.

The heroine, Laurel Chandler, is upstanding and courageous despite seeming quite fragile. Her tragic past adds to her character, even though at times I wondered over her devotion to her sister--Laurel's opposite in every way and an unredeemable character.Savannah Chandler is unlikable, at best.

Jack Boudreaux is an incredibly sexy hero. The guilt he carries around becomes depressing, but he is very loveable.

The villain is vicious and easily spotted early on.However, that does not detract from the evil he represents and delivers.

The rest of the cast of characters are diverse and strong, likable, detestable, or just colorful.

The love scenes are worth reading again.

This is a sexy book, complicated by human emotions and traumas, and a fine example of why Tami Hoag is such a renowned writer.

Shelley Dawn, author of Sweet, Sweet Jessie, Dark Nights, and Dark Nights[..]

2-0 out of 5 stars Hardly worth the trouble
I am a Michael Connelly-Robert Crais-Philip Margolin fan, and I don't think Tami Hoag is in their league. However, I have read a few of her novels and, for the most part enjoyed them.Cry Wolf, however, reads like a harliquin romance for the first 300 pages.I found that I really didn't care about either of the two main characters.
The book did pick up a bit after page 300, but one shouldn't have to wait that long for the plot to move. ... Read more

As a trauma nurse, Julia McCarver is accustomed to dealing with life-and-death emergencies. But she is the one in shock when she answers the door and finds the past standing there in the person of S. T. “Storm” Dalton. Julia had painstakingly put her life together not just once but three times in the wake of his abrupt and devastating departures, and she has no intention of doing it a fourth time. Because that’s what S.T. promises he will do—break her engagement to another man, her heart, and her future all over again. Except, of course, that’s not what he calls his plan to win her back. He gives himself two weeks to convince Julia that he’s changed, that she is still in love with him, and that—despite conventional wisdom—the fourth time lightning struck can be a charm. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Not great, but a fun, quick read
Yes, it's a bit too simple and contrived, but I still enjoyed it.I listened to it on CD in my car.The reader made it interesting with her varying accents. You won't learn anything new in this story, but for a quick read with no heavy thinking involved, it does the trick.

2-0 out of 5 stars Taken By Storm
I was disappointed that this was a reprint from the 90's & it wasn't near as good as here books are now.

1-0 out of 5 stars Ridiculous Story Line
Taken by Storm -- Storm was his name!I should have known how contrived this story was.He did unbelievable, romantic things to get Julia's attention.A parade, flowers, M&Ms, a flying stunt.I couldn't wait to finish this book. It dragged on and on.I knew they would end up together, but read on to make sure there wasn't something more to the story.I was really disappointed because I've liked other Tami Hoag books.

1-0 out of 5 stars horrible
i have to say this was horrible in my opinion.the heroine is a push over and the hero is selfish and over bearing.if you have read other 80s romances and liked them you will probably like this one and if you didn't then like those then you won't like this one.if you haven't read an 80s romance they generally go like this (and this one is no exception) - young innocent girl falls for older worldly and cynical man who takes her virginity and then leaves (and sometimes comes back and leaves over and over as in this case) and each time the woman/girl takes him back because he is oh so irresistible and she is in love with him and deep down she loves him.the man doesn't take no for an answer when the girl finally tells him to get lost and in stead he does whatever he wants and just ignores her and eventually she gives in to him.

2-0 out of 5 stars A waste of time to read this
I got this to take with me on vacation because I wanted a light romance book, something simple. This was a little too simple for me.I was cracking up at how lame the story line was.It followed the typical romance formula to build the heat between the characters, but I was laughing at how ridiculous it was and I couldn't finish it, it was just too much, too unrealistic, too cheesy, lame dialogue. ... Tempestuous

Product Description
In this classic love story from #1 New York Times bestselling author Tami Hoag, fire meets ice when a Yankee heartthrob falls for a resistant proper Southern belle determined to guard her heart.

Katie Quaid could never refuse a dare. It was the quality that had once made her a world-class equestrian. And it was the reason she’d been elected to introduce herself to Briarwood’s intimidatingly gorgeous new resident. It took one week to make Nick Leone the focus of the Virginia town’s rumor mill. So far he was a CIA agent, a male model, a fugitive—maybe all three.

Whatever Nick was, Katie learned one thing right away: she liked him. And that made him the greatest danger she’d faced since the accident that had ended her riding career. In the five years since, she’d buried herself in her business of restoring historic homes, afraid to share her scars with any man—scars that had destroyed more than one dream. Nick had disappointments of his own, but after meeting Katie, he sensed that fate had a better plan all along. And soon he would pose her with the greatest dare of all—to love again.

Product Description
#1 New York Times bestselling author Tami Hoag tells a powerful story of love and surrender in this classic novel about a young woman determined to save the world on her own, and the man who may help her save herself.

Lynn Shaw knows teenage rebellion all too well. And she knows the damage it can leave in its wake. She hadn’t been able to spare herself those growing pains, but as a counselor she’s determined to help the troubled girls of Horizon House, girls who need love—not publicity. But when unfriendly locals protest the residence, they draw the attention of the state senator—a movie-star-handsome man Lynn assumes is merely interested in a photo op.

But helping Lynn is what Erik Gunther is interested in. And Lynn doesn’t buy it for a second. Not even when he takes up her cause as his own. Not even when their mutual attraction becomes undeniable. But for the sake of the girls, Lynn will have to let down her defenses. Easier said than done, as a private war against her past demons rages on. A battle with an army of one, until now. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars love story
Fairly predictable story.But still entertaining.
Gives hope to all adults that there is someone for
each of us.

4-0 out of 5 stars A good read
I enjoyed reading this novel it was a classic romance with a hint of suspence. The charaters were people you could relate too and were different than the typicle romance novel. The heroes were not shining pillers of society, they all had a past and flaws they needed to over come. You really had to wonder right up until the end if the romance would become fullfilled. I also have only ever cried in two other novel/books i have read in my live. Tami Hoags "The Last White Knight" has now become the third. This one is a keeper and one you will want to read again.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not Tami's Best
I have long been a fan of Tami Hoag's mysteries. She is one of the best writers of mystery romance. However, there were some disappointments with this book.First of all, much was made of the dog's appearance at the first dead woman's grave that was discovered by the kids. Big deal was made about vicious dog, then Petal was found and suspected of being that dog but storyline was just dropped suddenly.Missing woman was trying to find way out of the area where she was held early on, then for several more pages, nothing more was said until suddenly there she is again trying to find the door, then nothing again until she is found buried in her mentor's back yard.Book did a lot of jumping around with various stories which seemed disjointed at times.

Last but not least, unless this was a prelude to a series of books, the ending sucked big time.Did the killer ultimately escape being prosecuted for anything other than an attack on the teacher, which would mean freedom in a short period of time? What happened to Wendy and her parent's story that was so prominent? Why was her dad going to Sacramento so often? What happened to Dennis and how could the story end with Tommy and his mother just dying their hair and going away? What about the serial killer's surviving victim? Killer's wife was a prominent player in book but even though she was really a hateful person, she got away scott free and poor Tommy is stuck with her and on top of that she was the killer's accomplice by throwing away evidence and covering for him.Very unsatisfactory ending in my opinion. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Tami Hoag CDs
Received promptly and all 3 CD books work fine withno problems.Love Tami Hoag's books. I listen to them in the car when I run errands.

3-0 out of 5 stars Romance not Thriller
The books were beautifully and skillfully descriptive. The reader did an excellent job. However, I found the stories to be romantic fairy tales not thrillers. The damsel in distress in her worn blue jeans and old t-shirt was saved by the muscle bound knight in his faded jeans and blue chambray shirt open to the waist. They made wild passionate love and lived happily ever after. I also didn't like the use of the word "Sugar" as a pet name for some of the characters.I'm from the South and we seldom use the word "Sugar" as a name for someone. It reminded me of someone trying to imitate a southern accent which is a turn off for me. Perhaps, it is my fault that I didn't care for the stories as I am a big Stephen King fan and these stories were mild in comparison.

5-0 out of 5 stars unhappy

This Book(s) on CD collection was listed as "LIKE NEW" yet when it arrived , the box it was in was mangled, and there was only 9 of the 15 disc in the box. Product Description
Imagine you're a princess in ancient Greece, cursed by the gods and imprisoned; you've given up hope, when suddenly you're rescued--by Hercules.Or you go for a joy ride in an ore trolley through an old silver mine; at the end of the ride, you find you've somehow landed in the Old West--and you're lying at the feet of a handsome Spanish grandee.Or you're trapped in a foreign country, smack in the middle of a terrorist-staged coup; you're sure you're going to die--until you discover that your unassuming dinner partner is really a secret agent who's there to protect you.Fantasies like these are what lie at the heart of the fabulous short story collection IN OUR DREAMS.

Forget everything you know about anthologies.IN OUR DREAMS truly is unique. Why?Because these ten terrific stories were inspired by your favorite heroes of movies and television, men who've captured the attention--and hearts--of women around the world.Mary Kirk, coordinator of the collection, says, "All of us, at one time or another, have fallen for a hero we met in a movie or on TV.And all of us have indulged in a fantasy or two about those men who make our hearts race and our senses spin. It's the man who embodies the heroic who inspires a romance writer's imagination."

Ms. Kirk gathered a stellar group of authors into collaboration with her:Linda Lael Miller, Mary Jo Putney, Patricia Potter, Susan Wiggs, Patricia Gardner Evans, Ruth Glick (writing as Rebecca York), Corey McFadden, Barbara Cummings, and Courtney Henke.Pulling out all the stops, these creative ladies asked themselves the question, 'Who are the men of our dreams?'"

And their answers? In Linda Lael Miller's "Never Been to Anphar," Maggie Ellington is caught on the wrong side of the ocean when war begins; lucky for her, the man who rescues her conjures visions of Jack Ryan (as played by Harrison Ford). Courtney Henke's daydreams about the gorgeous Kevin Sorbo, who plays Hercules, led to the creation of the half-god hero in "Moon Over Miranda," a love story full of mythic creatures and god-inflicted curses, blended nicely with a hearty dose of campy humor.Set in an ancient Celtic land, "Legend" grew out of author Mary Kirk's fascination with the concept of immortality--and her crush on Duncan MacLeod, the Highlander (Adrian Paul).

A leap into the future, to the distant planet Jalar, sets the stage for "Conquest," by Ruth Glick (writing as Rebecca York); here, meet Rohan, a fierce alien warrior who was inspired by that sexy Klingon Worf."Nobody's Angel," by Barbara Cummings takes you to the Old West, to mine silver--and fall in love--with Fernando de la Hoya, who sprang to life in Ms. Cummings' imagination as she pictured her favorite star, Jimmy Smits, in the role of a Spanish nobleman.Lingering in the Old West, pay a visit to New Hope, the dusty Texas town where gunslinger Jared Walker decides to hang up his Colts and bury his past; spend five tense minutes with Jared in his final "Showdown," as told by Patricia Potter, who was inspired by Kevin Kline in SILVERADO.

Then, shake off the dust and let Mary Jo Putney take you to Camelot to meet--who else?--Arthur Pendragon, King of Britain, inspired by the incomparable Sean Connery; in "Avalon," Ms. Putney gives Arthur a love worthy of his valiant heart--and she gives romance readers a deliciously satisfying ending to one of history's most beautiful legends. While in the British Isles, spend some time in Regency England with author Corey McFadden; as Colin Firth brought life to Mr. Darcy in PRIDE AND PREJUDICE, he brought inspiration to Ms. McFadden; the result is "Little Beast."You'll chuckle heartily as the proud Gavin Broward watches the troublesome girl he's been fond of since childhood matureinto a beautiful woman.

Turn the page and laugh some more as you read "The Growing Season," by Patricia Gardner Evans; put yourself in Annie Reeves' shoes when she goes to see the new doc in town--to talk about artificial insemination--and discovers he has the soul-deep brown eyes of ER's Dr. Doug Ross, who was Ms. Evans' inspiration for Dr. John Haney. Finally, travel to modern-day Paris, and let author Susan Wiggs put you on Pont-Neuf, a "Bridge of Dreams"; wait with the heroine to see if the man she met ten years earlier will keep their appointed rendezvous. The man, a world-famous musician, was inspired by Daniel Day-Lewis, who Ms. Wiggs believes imbues all the characters he plays with tremendous energy and passion.

So you see, it's true:IN OUR DREAMS really is unique.More than that--it's one of the best collections of romantic tales you'll ever read.Don't miss it--or the chance these ten talented storytellers are offering you to meet the man of your dreams.Amazon.com Review
Call this the pu-pu platter of romance collections!Featuring 10thrilling, romantic tales by some of today's most popular authors, includingLinda Lael Miller and Mary Jo Putney, and with an introduction by TamiHoag, this assembly of stories is equivalent to facing an extravagantsmorgasbordwith a very small plate. However, heartthrobs, hunks, and heroes abound, each with a mysterious resemblance to Harrison Ford, Daniel Day-Lewis, orKevin Sorbo of TV's Hercules fame. Perfect for busy people seeking a brief hiatus from the bustle, each story is approximately 30 pages long and spans time from themedieval period to future eras, and locations from King Arthur's court tothe Old West to distant planets. There is definitely something here foreveryone.By the time you turn the last page, you can't help but hopethatthe contributors will build these teasers into full-length novels in the verynear future. --Alison Trinkle ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Uneven, but worth reading
The concept rocks: write stories inspired by TV and movie heroes, but don't do it directly.

Much of the writing is equally good: obviously all these authors are excellent writers.

Some of the stories were compelling, some were mildly entertaining. None were awful.

However, this book isuneven. I have a hard time imagining that any one person would love allthese stories. Some of the stories suffer from being so short, and othersare just not that interesting.

I loved Moon Over Miranda and Mary JoPutney's reworking of the King Arthur tale.

Five stars for concept andtwo of the stories. The other stories were all 3-star and 4-star inquality, so I'm averaging it all out to be four stars.

5-0 out of 5 stars Sweet in an Old-Fashioned But Quirky Way
I think I'm lucky to find this book because there aren't a lot of copies of this book in the bookstores. (If any one is wondering I found this copy lying in an ancient bookstore)

Alaina Montgomery, a smart and cool lawyer, who's all about class. Dylan Harrison, a bait and bar shop owner, who goofs around all the time. The only thing they have in common when they met was that they both live in Anastasia, California.

They met when Alaina's BMW broke down on the road when she's trying to go to her friend's costume party. Because of how Dylan and Alaina dressed, they were both arrested. From then there was a mutual attraction for each other and they related how they hated it when their friends would try to hook them up with some other person. So they come up with this idea to pretend to be dating, so it'll be just an easy date without any hassles. They get to know each other and they fall in love, but they never tell each other because they're too scared to. But could they truly ever connect over their differences?

I really loved this book and now I'm searching for the other books in this set. There are 4 books in this set and so far I only found 2 and I really do hope I'll find it. ... Read more
