5-0 out of 5 stars A roadmap to Techno-LOGYism
Some books are so alive and refresh some of your experience and old memories when reading such that you think the author is alive there talking to you. Technology and Change is a masterpiece. When I first read the book I noticed its date of publish is older than me but I was amazed how beautifully it explains the contemporary real situation in Innovation. Uncertainty, instability and unpredictability which is at the heart of every innovation is a dilemma which scholars in recent decades has wrestled with to capture its dynamics. With notable exceptions such as Latour I think Schon brilliantly shows how Reduction of Uncertainty to Risk, converson of Language of Invention to Language of Investment, too much information to handle, Propose-Dispose ping pong between boss and subordinate and above all Myth of Rationality are underlying platforms of Innovation Projects. With a frank departure from conventional wisdom he pursue change and innovation all the way to an ethics of change.

To sum up, it's a live, notable, and pioneering work which deserves more attention by students of innovation which these days are overwhelmed by more information than they can handle specially at the time of litrature review. ... Read more

Excerpt: Aspasia (ca. 470 BCca. 400 BC, Greek: ) was a Milesian woman who was famous for her involvement with the Athenian statesman Pericles. Very little is known about the details of her life. She spent most of her adult life in Athens, and she may have influenced Pericles and Athenian politics. She is mentioned in the writings of Plato, Aristophanes, Xenophon, and other authors of the day. Ancient writers also reported that Aspasia was a brothel keeper and a harlot, although these accounts are disputed by modern scholars, on the grounds that many of the writers were comic poets concerned with defaming Pericles. Some researchers question even the historical tradition that she was a hetaera, or courtesan, and have suggested that she may actually have been married to Pericles. Aspasia had a son by Pericles, Pericles the Younger, who later became a general in the Athenian military and was executed after the Battle of Arginusae. She is believed to have become the courtesan of Lysicles, another Athenian statesman and general, following the death of Pericles the Elder. Aspasia was born in the Ionian Greek city of Miletus (in the modern province of Aydn, Turkey). Little is known about her family except that her father's name was Axiochus, although it is evident that she must have belonged to a wealthy family, for only the well-to-do could have afforded the excellent education that she received. Some ancient sources claim that she was a Carian prisoner-of-war turned slave; these statements are generally regarded as false. It is not known under wh...More: http://booksllc.net/?id=231443 ... Product Description
Heraclitus of Ephesus was a pre-Socratic Greek philosopher, a native of Ephesus, Ionia, on the coast of Asia Minor. He was of distinguished parentage. Little is known about his early life and education, but he regarded himself as self-taught and a pioneer of wisdom. From the lonely life he led, and still more from the riddling nature of his philosophy and his contempt for humankind in general, he was called "The Obscure," and the "Weeping Philosopher." Heraclitus is famous for his doctrine of change being central to the universe, as stated in his famous saying, "You can not step twice into the same river." He believed in the unity of opposites, stating that "the path up and down is one and the same," existing things being characterized by pairs of contrary properties. His cryptic utterance that "all things come to be in accordance with this Logos," (literally, "word," "reason," or "account") has been the subject of numerous interpretations. ... Read more

He believed in the unity of opposites, stating that "the path up and down is one and the same," existing things being characterized by pairs of contrary properties, and other explorations of the concept of dualism. His cryptic utterance that "all things come to be in accordance with this Logos," (literally, "word," "reason," or "account") has been the subject of numerous interpretations. The main source for the life of Heraclitus is Diogenes Laërtius, although some have questioned the validity of his account as "a tissue of Hellenistic anecdotes, most of them obviously fabricated on the basis of statements in the preserved fragments." Diogenes said that Heraclitus flourished in the 69th Olympiad, 504-501 BCE. All the rest of the evidence the people Heraclitus is said to have known, or the people who were familiar with his work confirms the floruit. His dates of birth and death are based on a life span of 60 years, the age at which Diogenes says he died, with the floruit in the middle. Excerpt:Agasias' Borghese Gladiator .For others with this name, see Agasias . Agasias (Ancient Greek : ), son of Dositheus, was an ancient Greek sculptor of Ephesus . One of the productions of his chisel, the statue known by the name of the Borghese Gladiator , is still preserved in the gallery of the Louvre . This statue was discovered among the ruins of a palace of the Roman emperors on the site of the ancient Antium . From the attitude of the figure it is clear that the statue represents not a gladiator, but a warrior contending with a mounted combatant. Friedrich Thiersch conjectured that it was intended to represent Achilles fighting with Penthesilea . The only record existing about the artist is the inscription on the pedestal of the statue; nor are there any data for ascertaining the age in which he lived, except the style of art displayed in the work itself, which competent judges think cannot have been produced earlier than the 4th century BC.It is not quite clear whether the Agasias who is mentioned as the father of Heraclides was the same as the author of the Borghese statue, or a different person. There was another sculptor of the same name, also an Ephesian, the son of Menophilus. He is mentioned in a Greek inscription, from which it appears that he exercised his art in Delos while that island was under Roman sw... ... Read more
