Very Good Study Guide - Test Engine Could Be Better
The text is joy to read; it is both lucid and succinct.However, with a 2003 copyright, it is beginning to show its age. There is no mention of Juniper's new routers, such as the M320 or the T-series, though these might not be covered on the JNCIA exam. And the preferred placement of some configuration statements within the JUNOS hierarchy has changed in more recent JUNOS releases.

Many of the questions included with the test engine include 15-20 line snippets of JUNOS configuration.Unfortunately, the test engine only allows a few lines of a question to be displayed at any time, so scrolling is needed to read such questions.Moreover, the test engine provides no facility for remembering from session to session which questions you answered right and wrong so that you can limit the questions presented in a later session to only those previously missed.The assessment test and end of chapter questions are printed in the book, so pencil and paper methods may work better for these.

Not suitable for a modern audience
I had considered directing this at a community theatre in Sydney. It is not suitable for our audiences. They wouldn't be able to follow it and would find the actions and motivations unbelievable. The only conceivable audience would be academic experts and they would spend their time complaining about all the things I got wrong, in spite of the copious notes at the back. ... Read more

An important High Churchman
Henry Hammond was a High Churchman who lived through the interregnum and was ejected from his ministry along with some fifteen hundred other High Churchmen during the Puritan reign. Hammond was not discouraged and worked tirelessly in defense of the Church of England. He is a notable Caroline divine given his knowledge of the fathers and his defense of episcopacy. He was also moderate in temparement and would have been more merciful to the Presbyterians who were themselves ejected from their ministries in 1662. Unfortunately Hammond only lived till 1660. Nevertheless his thought and writings were highly influential in High Church circles after the Restoration and were resucitated during the Oxford Movement to some degree. ... Read more

Beautiful book
Beautiful book filled with colored photographs of works of art. This book also comes in paperback from Amazon.

A broad survey of twenteith century art
Based on the work in the SBC Collection, which has nearly 1,000 works of American art of the twentieth century, American Images provides a survey of art of that period. The thirteen essays take us roughly chronologically through the art of twentieth century using as reference points the work in the collection. From realist work we progress through Modernism with abstract and Cubist influences, Pop and Minimalism, to the diversity of the close of the century.

The book also contains a (selected) Catalogue of Work held in the collection, and a Bibliography arranged to follow the pattern of the essays. The essays themselves are illustrated with 72 black and white pictures, and there are 160 colour plates to be found following the relevant essays. Some 400 thumbnail black and white pictures illustrate the Catalogue of Work.

An informative book covering a wide range of work both two and occasionally three dimensional art, it is well illustrated. Perhaps some of the images could be larger, a number of the colour plates are reproduced quite small relative to the page size for no good reason, and of course the landscape pictures do not fair too well either on the portrait proportion page. There are however a few double-page spreads and a fair number of good sized images.

While there are many familiar names included in the survey and some familiar works of art, there are also many less familiar pieces, adding greatly to the appeal of the book.

In his history of lynching, Moore describes the role politicians such as Ben Tillman and Cole Blease played in encouraging the lynching mentality, and he uncovers the underlying forces that pushed white South Carolinians to whip, hang, and otherwise brutalize African Americans. His adroit investigation of published and unpublished sources of information gives readers the best extant view of the number of lynchings in South Carolina, the perceived reasons for their occurrences, and their public or private circumstances.
