Product Description
John Grisham is the home run king of legal thrillers. Fans devour his books and can't wait for each blockbuster book every February. Since 2001, he has written a second, lightweight novella in the fall. This is gourmet Grisham.

But who is John Grisham--the real John Grisham? He is an illusive, private, and mysterious person, who shuns publicity. The author of The John Grisham Story: from baseball to bestsellers peels away the layers of this fascinating Mississippi boy, who longed to be a professional baseball player. Grisham was a criminal lawyer, a Mississippi legislator, and is presently a novelist.

Grisham came from a family of storytellers. His gypsy life as a child, moving from Arkansas to many small towns in Mississippi, was fodder for many of his ideas.

Life experiences for Grisham left him full of disdain for lawyers, politicians, and government. Yet, he is a spiritual man, a family man, and an anonymous giver to charities.

Buried behind his acres of land in the rolling hills of Virginia, Grisham coaches Little League and uses his novels to espouse his causes against homelessness, insurance scams, and crooked lawyers.

Here is the inside story of John Grisham, written in a lively, informative, and colorful style. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A writing life
Narayan of Rebeccasreads highly recommends THE JOHN GRISHAM STORY as a biography of his writing life. There are no family trees, no attempt to trace out genealogy or any of the frills & hoopla commonly associated with biographies. What we find inside is a simple tale, narrated in simple words, about the life & times of one of the most widely read & popular authors of the present times.

Through the words of many of his friends, teachers & close-relatives we find out the real man behind the stunning works of THE FIRM & A TIME TO KILL, etc. It mainly focuses on three aspects of Grisham's life: the first of a lawyer & a politician; the second that of a writer extraordinaire, the king of legal thrillers, & the third about Grisham's dream of becoming a baseball star.

Two out of three's good going!

Do catch our interview with Libby Hughes.

This is a great deal and loved all three books.I highly recommend this product.

4-0 out of 5 stars The Partner
I enjoyed reading this book.It started off with alot of action then left you on the edge of your seat the whole time while reading.John Grisham did a good job at not revealing Patricks (the main character) plan on how he would get out of the whole situation.Right when you thought you knew what was going to happen next another twist is thrown in.You actually start to envy the charater Patrick because he is brilliant and has thought about everything.I recomend this book to anybody who has thought about packing up and leaving their old lifes behind.

John Grisham's Triology - The Partner/The Street Lawyer/A Time to Kill make for gripping reading. Product Description
Michael was in a hurry. He was scrambling up the ladder at Drake & Sweeney, a giant D.C. firm with eight hundred lawyers. The money was good and getting better; a partnership was three years away. He was a rising star with no time to waste, no time to stop, no time to toss a few coins into the cups of panhandlers. No time for a conscience.

But a violent encounter with a homeless man stopped him cold. Michael survived; his assailant did not. Who was this man? Michael did some digging, and learned that he was a mentally ill veteran who'd been in and out of shelters for many years. Then Michael dug a little deeper, and found a dirty secret, and the secret involved Drake & Sweeney.

The fast track derailed; the ladder collapsed. Michael bolted from the firm and took a top-secret file with him. He landed in the streets, an advocate for the homeless, a street lawyer.

And a thief. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars A Bumpy Country Road
An uneven collection of tales set in Ford County, Mississippi.Though Grisham's writing is as engaging as ever, the stories range from meandering to moving. On the plus side is Fish Files, a story about a middle-aged lawyer who examines his life and decides there must be more to it than helping people with bankruptcies and divorces. Also very emotional is Grisham's telling of when AIDS came to rural Mississippi in Funny Boy.On the negative side is Blood Drive, a mindless tail of three travelers who choose women and booze over saving a man's life, and Michael's Room, an unrealistic cautionary warning to heartless lawyers. The gems are wonderful, but there is plenty of fool's gold to be found.

5-0 out of 5 stars Short and Sweet
I have enjoyed John Grisham's books for years and this is one , "Ford County" set in Mississippi with it's several short stories is no exception. Once again Mr. Grisham's use of language has entertained me again. This is one writer that time and time again I found his books worth buying. And although this book is different from the author's usual longer stories, each short oneThe Skye in June has a conflict, a lesson (of sorts) and a resolution or satisfying ending.

"Blood Drive" with it's three Ford County young men who embark on a trip to Memphis to donate blood to a fellow FC who had an accident is very funny."Casino" is about revenge, broken hearts and rekindled love all without shedding of blood,"Michael's Room" was very "legal" Grisham - sad and "you get yours" lesson. My favorite was the last story, "Funny Boy."There was certainly enough in this story to make you chuckle and shake your head at people, but more than that the moral of it is loud and clear.

I was sorry to see the last page and I think I'll not give it up too soon. A reread is coming soon, I do believe. I liked that the stories were short enough to finish if I had a few more minutes, but long enough to save if not.
A great book to take on the bus, a plane, to bed and on the beach.

5-0 out of 5 stars Light and Short Reading
I know I haven't read many of John Grisham's books, but after this one I'd love to pick up another. This book is comprised of seven short, entertaining stories. They each have a very real problem that an average person may be able to identify with.
The two main things that I loved about each story was that they didn't take long and there wasn't hardly any violence or death.Of course there was conflict in each; however, it wasn't overwhelming.
My favorite was the last story entitled Funny Boy. It had several humorous parts that made me laugh even though there was a serious message that Grisham was conveying throughout. The relationship that formed between two people who led such complete and opposite lifestyles proves that one never knows who they may become friends with!

~NEW Version with ORIGINAL Cover and Illustrations~

a rare lost "classic" Locked Room mystery novel
first published in 1912, now in public domain,

plus the classic Locked Room short story,
"The Doomdorf Mystery"

by Melville Davisson Post
(author of UNCLE ABNER)

edited by Russell Atwood
(author of EAST OF A and LOSERS LIVE LONGER:

Synopsis:
"Three men--a judge, a priest, and a doctor--meet over two evenings to ponder how a dead man found alone in a locked room was killed, even though all evidence points to the impossible suggestion that the murder could not have been committed by a human hand, and each man in turn relates other cases of murder and their unraveling, killers and their undoing, innocent men and women trapped in circumstances beyond their control, before finally agreeing on a solution to this baffling mystery."

A novel of interlocking short stories of guilt and detection, misadventures involving cursed currency, voices from beyond the grave, aphony psychic turned detective, failed heists, courtroom showdowns, and cold-blooded murder...

Shows off all the diverse elements of the author's fertile imagination as he weaves an Arabian-Nights full of surprise twists and strange come-uppances.

Melville Davisson Post deserves his place among Poe, Twain, and O. Henry as a great early America writer. He lived and wrote on the cusp of a new century, like us, straddling two worlds, trying to preserve the history of the old while adjusting to the rapid changes ushered in by the new.His prose style is modern and his plots fast paced.

From the ORIGINAL 1912PUBLISHER's note:

"A new and thrilling detective story by this well-known writer. The mysterious death of a recluse in his library is the main theme.. There is absolutely no clue to the cause of his death, and the mystery is doubled by the fact that, although the room is shot up and in the greatest disorder, both windows and door are found locked on the inside--the man dead in a pool of his own blood. The clearing up of the mystery leads the reader through many exciting adventures.Mr. Post has written a story well worth reading and recommending the other fellow to read."

Melville Davisson Post (April 19, 1869–June 23, 1930) was an American author, born in Harrison County, West Virginia. His family settled in the Clarksburg, West Virginia area in the late 18th Century. He earned a law degree from West Virginia University in 1892, and was married in 1903 to Ann Bloomfield Gamble Schofield. Their one child died while an infant, and Mrs. Post died of pneumonia in 1919. He was an avid horseman, and died on June 23, 1930, after a fall from his horse, and was buried in Harrison County.

Although Post's name is not immediately familiar to those outside specialist circles, many of his collections are still in print and many collections of detective fiction include works by Post. Post's best-known character is the mystery-solving, justice dispensing Virginian backwoodsman, Uncle Abner. Post also created two other recurring characters, Sir Henry Marquis and Randolph Mason. He also wrote two non-crime novels.

Product Description
A serial killer known as “The Reader” is murdering journalists in the manner of their most famous stories. Dubbed the “Media Murders” by the press, the killings baffle authorities, turn once-aggressive reporters into prey and shock the country in what soon becomes a national story. The cunning killer’s first strike is cleverly disguised as a political assassination, mirroring John Hinckley’s attempt on Ronald Reagan. As it turns out, the fallen reporter had covered Reagan’s shooting. It’s the first of several bizarre killings with eerie similarities to sensational stories the murdered journalists once covered. The story is so big, The New York Times assigns its new national reporter, Cassandra “Cassie” Jordan, to cover its every development. The assignment returns Cassie to her familiar stomping grounds of Harrisburg, Pa., reuniting her with Frank “Telly” Tellis, chief political reporter for The Harrisburg Herald. Only Telly can put together the murderous truth as the secret motive for the killings is buried deep in his journalistic past. But can he solve the puzzle before falling under The Reader’s deadly crosshairs?

John Luciew, the author of FATAL DEAD LINES, SECRETS OF THE DEAD and ZERO TOLERANCE, once again plumbs the depths of power, politics and the press. The result is pulse-pounding suspense.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good read
First John Luciew novel I've read.Very happy with it.Some parts were too pat and a little difficult to swallow, but it is a novel and a good one.Read it through, liked it and would recommend it to friends.

Yes, true... all John Luciew books were hard to put down once I started reading...
I wish there was more to buy. Come on John, write few more quick:)

5-0 out of 5 stars Couldn't Stop Reading!
I couldn't put this book down. I love murder mysteries, and this was a good one. Every time I had time to read, I was thinking "Oh, good, I get to read some more of this book!" I'll be reading more books by John Luciew.

One thing I do need to mention is that this book needed some more editing. Some of the paragraphs were indented and some weren't, and there were several typos. But there wasn't enough of a problem to pull me out of the story. The book was just too good to let the errors bother me.

4-0 out of 5 stars Pretty Good Read
I felt the book started out just a tad slow but boy when it took off, it was great. I will definitely read more of this author's books and look forward to it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good read, even if it drags a little at times
The plot stretches credibility (villain is too clever; even red herrings are convoluted), but the characters are well written and the plot is better than average. The book ties up with the violins a little loud in the background.Still, the price is right and I recommend it. ... Read more

Product Description
In the streets of Harrisburg, a man is killed in what appears to be a straightforward hit-and-run – until the victim turns out to have no identity whatsoever. Obituary writer Lenny Holcomb’s ability to glimpse the secrets of his column’s subjects leads him to suspect that his old friend, ex-congressman George Packard, may have had a hand in the “accident.” But if so, why do all the clues point to Packard’s slick political rival? With the help of ambitious reporter Jacqueline Towers, Lenny follows a trail of political spin and corruption to the highest levels of Pennsylvania government – where the right influence can make any problem disappear. Unfortunately, some very powerful people think Lenny Holcomb has just become a problem …
In his sequel to Fatal Dead Lines, John Luciew doubles the action and triples the suspense. And the odds against Lenny Holcomb ever finding the truth couldn’t be higher. It’s a rip-roaring political yarn with an authentic, torn-from-the-headlines feel. You won’t be able to put it down.

4-0 out of 5 stars good book
This was a good story unfortunately the ending was predictable. I enjoyed the characters and thought the story flowed well the reporter was more like a cop but the series seems to be believable. I am going to read a third Luciew book. The ending became apparent with about a quarter of the book left.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not there yet.
This is my second try at Mr. Luciew's work. He's just not there, yet. His plots are fun and start out fine. But, ultimately, he allows HIMSELF to get in the way. One begins to really 'get into' the story, but then disaster: first, the typos, punctuation errors and poor grammer ruin the meter. Second, in come the attempts at political correctness and his personal political bias.

Mr. Luciew, please get a good editor ... or any proofreader. Remember, the reader is the writer's responsibility. Next, remember that comma faults tell the reader that the writer is an amature. Finally, give up on pandering to political correctness ... it's just plain tiresome. Johnny Cash, that great American poet said; "if you have political convictions, keep them to youself." Stop getting in the way of your own prose.

Do that, and I'll be back. I see great promise.

4-0 out of 5 stars Another great book by Luciew
I've now read Secrets of the Dead and Kill the Story and I just downloaded Zero Tolerance.I'm hoping Luciew willl soon write another. The only complaint I have (and the reason for four stars instead of five) are the mistakes in grammar, spelling, using the wrong word, etc. It's extremely distracting. So talented a writer really should get a good proofreader. (IMHO)But I thoroughly enjoy his books in any case. And it's definitly a plus that his books don't cost a fortune as do many books by less talented authors.

5-0 out of 5 stars Secrets of the Dead
Was a great read!!!!!!!!
Luciew was new to me and really glad I found him.
Just downloaded Zero Tolerance and Kill the Story.
If you like James Patterson, Robert B. Parker, Karen Robards,

Product Description
A wife is murdered in a brutal, bloody knife attack at her rural Harrisburg, Pa., home. Almost immediately, her sleeping husband is a prime suspect. Meanwhile, a truck driver-turned serial killer is roaming the interstates for more female victims, and no one is tracking his bloody trail.

Journalist John Luciew takes you inside the bungled Pennsylvania State Police investigation and traces each tortured step in a three-year journey to justice with a compelling and revealing nonfiction narrative account that reads like a novella.

You’ll step into the shoes of the accused husband, who quickly goes from distraught victim to prime suspect. And you will be inside the police interrogation room for his 11-hour grilling.

You’ll see the bloody trail of evidence police overlooked as a budding serial killer who despises women continues to prowl quiet neighborhoods in close proximity to busy truck stops and bustling interstates.

You will follow the seemingly random path of the masked, black-clothed killer as he roams suburban developments during late-night “human hunts.” An unlocked door or an open-air patio can be the difference between life and death.

This murder machine has no motive other than to kill women. Even more chilling, there’s no rhyme or reason to his attacks -- other than the anonymous interstates connecting his crimes. Before he’s finished, the trail of death and assault hop scotches from Pennsylvania to New Jersey to Massachusetts.

Meanwhile, oblivious police in Pennsylvania are fixated on a motive. Who else but family would know that a wife would be on her patio at 2 a.m.? All signs point to her husband. A grand jury is convened. Subpoenas are issued. Homicide charges could be imminent.

The clock is ticking in a real-life drama of life and death, freedom and imprisonment.

How many women must suffer under a serial killer’s knife before he is stopped? How far will police push an innocent man? Who will piece together the murderous truth?

John Luciew unravels this riveting true story and displays the bravo journalism and sharp eye for facts that have fueled his ripped-from-the-headlines fictional thrillers KILL THE STORY, ZERO TOLERANCE, SECRETS OF THE DEAD and FATAL DEAD LINES.

Only this time, his chilling account of actual events will leave you wondering whether it could happen to you.

Also included are two long-form narrative nonfiction pieces on life inside Pennsylvania’s juvenile justice system. This journalism directly influenced and informed Luciew's juvenile justice-themed thriller, ZERO TOLERANCE. See how with an extended excerpt of Zero Tolerance, also included, that shows how the facts inspired the fiction.

3-0 out of 5 stars very good
Good book but a little difficult to follow at times. A woman (school Teacher)disappears leaving behind her daughter and husband who turns into a prime suspect. He runs into his pedophile neighbor who becomes suspect #2. Her long lost father reappears out of of no where to try and take the daughter. All the time the story is being told through he eyes of thedetective and the victim. Got confusing at times but the story was good. The ending was a little far fetched but a decent read.

This murder machine has no motive other than to kill woman. Even more chilling, there's no rhyme or reason to his attacks -- other than the anonymous interstates connecting his crimes. Before he's finished, the trail of death and assault hop scotches from Pennsylvania to New Jersey to Massachusetts.

Meanwhile, oblivious police in Pennsylvania are fixated on a motive. Who else but family would know that a wife would be on her patio at 2 a.m.? All signs point to her husband. A grand jury is convened. Subpoenas are issued. Homicide charges could be imminent.

The clock is ticking in a real-life drama of life and death and freedom and imprisonment.

How many women must suffer under a serial killer's knife before he is stopped? How far will police push an innocent man? Who will piece together the murderous truth?

John Luciew unravels this riveting true story and displays the bravo journalism and sharp eye for facts that have fueled his ripped-from-the-headlines fictional thrillers KILL THE STORY, ZERO TOLERANCE, SECRETS OF THE DEAD and FATAL DEAD LINES.

Only this time, his chilling account of actual events will leave you wondering whether it could happen to you.

Plus, special bonus material!
Also included are two long-form narrative nonfiction pieces on life inside Pennsylvania's juvenile justice system. This journalism directly influenced and informed my juvenile justice-themed thriller, ZERO TOLERANCE. See how with an extended excerpt of Zero Tolerance, also included, that shows how the facts inspired the fiction.

This nonfiction Kindle book contains approx. 22,000 words.

ALL NEW! Responding to reader demand, ZERO TOLERANCE is being re-released in a professionally edited Second Edition. All customers who purchase this Kindle book as of Aug. 2, 2010, will automatically receive the newly updated edition. The result is sharper suspense, with no annoying typos.

So the question remains:

Can you tolerate the suspense?

When a kid commits a crime in Pittsburgh, the trouble is just beginning. That’s because the teen-age criminals end up doing time in the River County Reform Camp for Boys. Rehabilitation isn’t what the manipulative colonel running the military-style boot camp has in mind for some. He sees his chance to control one of the most lethal and fearless forces there is -- teen criminals.
Col. Henry Hogan has spent his life working in the juvenile justice system. After all this time, he knows he can do one thing well – manipulate kids. At the isolated camp that he controls, Hogan will test just how far he can push his boys and how much power he can grab. He recruits muscular Butch “Butcher” Brimmer to lead his Special Privileges Unit. Hogan dispatches this elite team on increasingly daring and dangerous assignments to settle personal scores and political vendettas all over Pittsburgh.
As the "teen terrorist" attacks mount and the death toll rises, Hogan furnishes his boys with the perfect alibi -- residency at the reform camp. But one cadet may be onto Hogan’s plans.
Joshua Champaign is physically weak but gifted on a computer. Can Josh lead a newspaper reporter to the evidence exposing Hogan as the misguided mastermind of the perplexing plague of teen violence in time? Or will the cunning colonel squelch the truth and silence the teens for good – all in the name of juvenile justice?

From the author of FATAL DEAD LINES, KILL THE STORY and SECRETS OF THE DEAD comes a wholly original thriller in which nothing is as it seems.
It’s a nonstop race against the clock that will test your tolerance for action, thrills and suspense. Because the task of reforming our youngest citizens has just become one man’s excuse for violent retribution...

ZERO TOLERANCE is a term often applied to community efforts to stop the scourge of juvenile crime and rehabilitate the offenders. In our country’s quest to meet out justice to its youngest citizens, some communities have turned to the trappings of military-style discipline and protocol. These juvenile reform centers are run as boot camps, designed to tear down the offender’s psyche and rebuild it with the proper impulse controls befitting a polite society. But what if someone saw these young criminals as a lethal force that could be manipulated for his own ends? What if this person was in charge of a military-style boot camp designed to turn the kids’ lives around?
This person would have unlimited power, the perfect alibi and total control over his young charges. This person would have ZERO TOLERANCE for life, liberty, justice and the truth. This person must be stopped…

A young mind is a terrible thing to corrupt.

5-0 out of 5 stars I couldn't put the book down
I was supposed to go to bed earlier due to work next day...well, I ended up reading this book all the way to the end... 1:30 in the morning - finished...I had to know the ending.. definetely buy this book!

4-0 out of 5 stars another good one
This story of juveniles being led by a warden type at a boot camp. They go and commit many crimes following his orders and the ending is a little far fetched but satisfying. I enjoyed this book although it was a bit graphic at times. I loved the inclusion of one of my favorite old detective shows "Columbo".

3-0 out of 5 stars PROOFREAD!!!PLEASE! PLEASE!PLEASE!!!
Though fairly interesting, this book isn't nearly as good as Kill the Story or Secrets of the Dead. It's disjointed and hard to follow.I won't be buying any more of John Lucieu's books because of the terrible spelling, grammar and the repeated use of the wrong word.Failure to correct these mistakes indicates a complete disregard for his readers/customers.

3-0 out of 5 stars Entertaining, loaded with annoying typos
As a person who gets bored easily with books, at least this one kept my attention throughout. It was fairly original in concept, but a bit hokey in parts. The worst part was the number of typos throughout the entire book.To the point where there was multiple errors on every page.Sometimes you had to read sentences twice just to understand what the author was trying to say.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Thriller
John Luciew is fabulous writer and I look forward to reading more of his work (already read Kill the Story, also great). If you like heightened action and suspense handled deftly by an expert, this is a book for you. But on top of that, Zero Tolerance has an original plot and beautifully drawn characters which add up to a very special reading experience. Great surprise at the end, too. ... Read more
