The Last War
There were many things I liked about this book. i liked it for one becase i could picture myself looking at them. Also it was sort of a survival of the fitist and i enjoyed reading about it. It alsohad some things that made you stumpped. For example food was scarce so they ate dog food.

My favorite part in this book was when he took a girl to the house he lived in. When they got to the house the things he had you would think were wierd if a bomb hit your house. he had electrictywater and heat. He had a big tv as well as a vcr and a cd player.When the bomb hit his parents were killed. His house was half way destroyed so he found this one. He got his stuff by rumaging throgh abandon stores.

There were two things that i really liked the way the author explained them. First the setting. He started of talking about buildings that were laying on there sides or half way blown up. He said the building spreaded debris through out the whole place. When the boy and the girl encountered th rats he was very discriptive. The rats were in thousands and looked like a black sea. Another thing was when he described the girl. He discribed her as being sick from the radiation. It looked like her eyes were sunk in her head and there were brusis on her arms and legs. her hair was falling out. she also had a bad god wound which he described very good. Loads of fun!
I remember reading this book when I was a child, and I loved it. Two kids who decide to go off on a short space jaunt instead of joining the rest of their class in a "boring" end-of-year get together get kidnapped by aliens and taken to another part of the galaxy. There, the are the only humans around, and it is precisely because of this that they have been chosen for a clandestine mission to rescue the emperor's daughter. It seems ridiculous that anybody could fall for a couple of kids in monkey suits pretending to be "gifts" for the young princess... But when none of the other races know what humans are, let alone what a real monkey is, it's amazing what you can get away with. The cover shows the very memorable "slime beast" gladiator scene which was great as well.

Good memories for me all around in this book; a very light sci-fi for kids, and very entertaining at that. I would buy it for nostalgic reasons if I could find it anywhere.

A great book for teachers to read aloud!
This book captures the imagination of readers at all levels.It depicts wonderful word choice, and can be described as one of those books you just can't put down.

Two students choose to skip the end-of-the-year schoolpicnic, and take a trip by themselves into outerspace looking for rarestones.They are kidnapped by aliens and taken to a planet which is notpart of their own friendly galaxy.The kids survive a "circus,"an alien version of the ancient Roman Gladiators.Afterwards they are sentto the emporer who then dresses them up like monkeys to infiltrate an enemyplanet and rescue his daughter.You'll have to read it to find out howthey get back to Earth.

Please Remove Your Elbow from My Ear
ISBN 0380765802 - Stories of underdogs who take on bullies, the system or the anointed champions are always appealing, particularly in kids' books - we do, after all, want them to learn that they, too, can do amazing things. While Please Remove Your Elbow from My Ear presents that message, it does it in a fairly mediocre way.Because the target audience is the Young Adult crowd, mediocre isn't good enough.

Stormalong Sprague has one friend - Jonathan.They are friends almost by default, because each of them is "weird" (read "different" in kid-speak) in his own way: Stormy says and does stupid things and Jonathan dances.Both are forced to pay a quarter a day to the Terminators - for protection FROM the Terminators.When Stormy ends up in detention, he makes friends with a surprising group of people who all have their own weirdnesses.Among them is Joey, who convinces the bunch to form a floor hockey team, The Dregs, to play for the Morton Mallory Trophy.

Stormy has more going on than just floor hockey - he likes the new girl, Loreeta, and pursues that relationship while trying not to discourage Jonathan in his pursuit of out-of-his-league Amber.He's also battling to keep his younger brother from turning out like him when an up and coming Terminator begins demanding a dime a day from Brandon - just as Jonathan decides to take his life into his own hands by refusing to pay his daily quarter!

The multitude of strange, or at least uncommon, names is mildly distracting - Stormalong, Loreeta (not Loretta), Melvin, Dabny, Adon, Joey Floozeman, Orchid, Tulip... it's just unnecessary.The story itself is okay but not well-written.The way the kids speak doesn't reflect the way most kids speak and, for those parents who are particular about language, " 'Dumb me!' I swore" makes "dumb" out to be a swear word, but "jackass" later in the book gets no such note, nor does "crap" (intentionally mis-spelled "krap").

Most offensive is the character of Dimps - a recent arrival from "some place in Asia".Her poor English is no surprise, if she's just moved to the States, but the author chooses to put a "K" in place of almost every letter she has difficulty with: Jokee (Joey), Melkin (Melvin), kes (yes), etc and to create funny, but highly unlikely, sentences: We wont to scare a mole (we want to score a goal).The book isn't horrible, and might appeal to younger readers, but the target audience is, in my opinion, bound to be smarter than this.

My first favorite
This was the first book I ever read that I couldn't put down.I read it when I was like 12 or 13, which was almost 10 years ago, and I still hold it as one of my favorites.I think it is a great book for any kid who has trouble getting interested in reading!!!

It was a great book with exciting parts which were very surprising.There were many instances that I thought were humorous.I reccomend this book to people who like exciting stories with good plots.Many scenes in this book made you think about things in real life.I really liked this book.

A Good Idea
Martin Godfray strikes again with this hilarious novel, "It seemed like a good idea at the time". I recommend this book to all Martin Godfray fans. Those of you who are new to Martin Godfray, I would suggeststarting with other books such as "just call me boom boom", and"here she is Miss Teeny Wonderful". These two novels not onlyinclude suspense and comedy, but you can also appreciate Martin Godfray'sincredable talent as a writer. Very dated, but a great story for elementary schoolers...
This book is a miles behind the times, but your average 9 year old probably wouldn't know it.It's your basic story about overcoming the oppressive kids in school in this case via learning to skateboard (picking your nose is a skateboarding trick circa 1990).I enjoyed it years ago when i was 10 and I'm sure current kids would too, but the skating mentioned is archaic as the sport has completely transformed in the past 15 years.An avid skater kid might find it hoaky, but most will see it as an exciting story about being cool and having a good time.

A Fun YA Book on 'Nose-Picking'
Ok, I'll admit it: The title of this book was what made me buy it. Real mature of me, right? However, "Can You Teach Me to Pick My Nose?" doesn't have anything to do with digging for gold (well, except for one instance at the end); 'nose-picking' is a skateboarding term.

The book should appeal to the preteen crowd, in particular young males since the protagonist, 7th-grader Jordy Shepherd, is in the same boat as most guys--he's trying to impress a popular girl at school, Marissa Powell. And somehow he's found himself in a skateboard competition with her older brother, Steve. Unfortunately, Jordy doesn't know the first thing about skating; so, he seeks the help of an unpopular classmate--and skateboarding pro--Pamela Loseth, in order to survive the competition in one piece.

As the title would suggest, this book is a lot of fun. It's ideal for young people who don't want to read very much (it's only 121 pages), and especially for readers interested in skateboarding.

I enjoyed reading this book. It wasn't the greatest book I ever read but I liked it. I liked how the author put Jordy into a big problem because Chris want'ed to show of Jordy. He needs to compite in a skateboard contestagainst a 9th grader and Jordy is only in 7th. The worst part is that henever been on a skateboard. He has only one hope, Pamela, a girl that noone likes.
