Source: Wikipedia. Pages: 22. Not illustrated. Free updates online. Purchase includes a free trial membership in the publisher's book club where you can select from more than a million books without charge. Excerpt: Rob Gonsalves is a Canadian painter of magic realism with a unique perspective and style. He produces original works, limited edition prints and illustrations for his own books. Rob Gonsalves was born in 1959 in Toronto, Canada. During his childhood, Gonsalves developed an interest in drawing from imagination using various media. By the age of twelve, his awareness of architecture grew as he learned perspective techniques and he began to create his first paintings and renderings of imagined buildings. After an introduction to artists Dalí and Tanguy, Gonsalves began his first surrealist paintings. The "Magic Realism" approach of Magritte along with the precise perspective illusions of Escher came to be influences in his future work. In his post college years, Gonsalves worked full time as an architect, also painting trompe-l'il murals and theater sets. After an enthusiastic response in 1990 at the Toronto Outdoor Art Exhibition, Gonsalves devoted himself to painting full time. Although Gonsalves' work is often categorized as surrealistic, it differs due to the fact that the images are deliberately planned and result from conscious thought. Ideas are largely generated by the external world and involve recognizable human activities, using carefully planned illusionist devices. Gonsalves injects a sense of magic into realistic scenes. As a result, the term "Magic Realism" describes his work accurately. His work is an attempt to represent human beings' desire to believe the impossible, to be open to possibi...More: http://booksllc.net/?id=2401953 ... Read more

Caramba is a fat, furry, striped cat with a big problem. "Every single cat in the world can fly," he sighs, "except me!"Caramba would love to swoop and glide between the clouds, to feel the wind whistling through his fur. He tries to soar into the sky over and over again but always lands flat on his face, until finally he sadly accepts that he is earthbound. "Don't be such a scaredy-cat," cry his cousins. "All cats are meant to fly!" They grab his paws and whisk him up into the sky for an impromptu flying lesson that ends with a big splash… and a surprising discovery in this beautifully illustrated story with a special message of self-acceptance. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars first book my daughter loved...
this was the first book (with a plot and real live edible pages) my daughter sat through at 15 months. She loved the pictures. She still chooses it as a bedtime story today. Lovely story about friendship and the challenges of being different.

5-0 out of 5 stars Enchanting!
This story is about diversity and meeting a challenge in a different way.And it's cleverly done with a cat who is supposed to swim.He can't, but he does try anyway. His best friend is a pig who can't fly either. But she encourages him to find his niche. The cat does discover that he can swim and other cats cannot.

It teaches a valuable lesson about believing in yourself and searching for what really makes you happy. The book is beautifully illustrated.Makes a great gift for a child.

3-0 out of 5 stars Pigs don't fly either
What an ego blow!Imagine being the only cat in the world incapable of flight.Woe is you...Wah, wah...Then, you discover you can swim and the other cats cannot swim. Total joy!Maybe this book is an epiphany on diversity.Maybe it means we should accept ourselves for what we are, as long as we have a super power no one else does.Maybe it means nothing at all...In spite of the really nifty watercolors a huge number of this title are offered for sale on the Amazon Marketplace. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great gift for a grandchild
This is a wonderful book!I purchased it for my 8 year old grandson who loves dinosaurs, which he has seen at a museum, and he loved it.
The idea of the child showing the Grandmother around the museum is brilliant! Nicely constructed, well written, educational, funny and colorful!
I highly recommend the book.

5-0 out of 5 stars enjoyable for the whole family
we borrowed this book from the library and we fell in love with it. when it was time to return it my little girl cried, so now we own it. it truley is a great story.

5-0 out of 5 stars "Remember to wear comfortable shoes."
I only checked this book out from the library because the cover illustration included some dinosaur fossils (my son is always looking for new dino books), but I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed this story of a girl taking her grandmother on a visit to the Museum of Natural History.

Molly is accustomed to going to "Interesting Places" with her grandmother, but after a school field trip to the Museum of Natural History, she is delighted to realize that at last, she has found an Interesting Place her grandmother has never visited. She offers to take Grandma to the Museum and takes charge, right down to reminding Grandma of the importance of comfortable shoes and using the bathroom before leaving the house.

The illustrations are drawings incorporating photos of items on exhibit at the American Museum of Natural History (NY), which I thought was a nice touch.Molly and her grandmother visit many exhibits--dinosaurs, Africa, the Arctic, ocean life, rocks, bugs, human biology, the Ice Age--and their conversation about what they see presents many interesting facts without sounding too didactic.

This might have a bit too much text for younger readers/listeners, but there are plenty of interesting pictures to look at.A fun read for both me and my 4 1/2 year old son.

5-0 out of 5 stars How to Take Your Grandmother to the Museum
One of my first grade students brought this book into school one day.I read it and decided I had to have it.Lois Wyse wrote a humorous story perfect for a Grandparents' Day Celebration or just for casual reading for children of all ages.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great book
