This is a marvelous, curious fantasy story which, while containing many of the typical fantasy elements (a prophecy, characters with destinies), manages to be wholly unique. The characters travel from a glass-flat land through a land of mists, through a claustrophobic town of pampered privilege, through a hellish landscape of heated rocks to an ocean hermitage at the edge of their world to save it--or possibly to destroy it. Political and ethical themes lie under the surface, but it's not at all a preachy book. It's an exciting book, an unusual one, and one that's full of kindness. You'll love the characters, and the places will linger with you forever.

Why isn't this book still in print
Every so often, a book comes along that strikes a chord in you and you wonder why everyone in the world doesn't read it and love it as much as you.Drujienna's Harp is one of those books for me.

The author does an exceptional job of drawing you in from the very first page.You will find yourself feeling the same emotions as the characters do, laughing at the comical ones, fearing the evil ones, and loving them all.I admit that in some books, such as Susan Cooper's "The Dark is Rising" Sequence, I was very disappointed at the ending.This book will keep you riveted until the very end and will keep you guessing.

One of the charms of this book is that the reader knows no more about what is going on than does Tha, who is the main character.We aren't given to know any more than she, or have any particular or special insights by virtue of us being readers, and I think that works exceptionally well.Unless you've read it before, you'll be on the edge of your seat (or bed) and won't be able to put it down.I found that I'd wonder throughout the day (even while I was at school *gasp*) what was going to happen to Tha next and had to go home and find out.

The only regret that I have is that this book is so hard to find.This is a GREAT book!

The joys of being a child revisited...
I tell you what. Kudos to Amazon.com for finding books from a baby boomer's childhood! I have told people about this book for half my life -- and the ability to get it back on Amazon gets me off the hook for being a crackpot who makes these things up! LOL!

I will have to read it again -- because I am sure that after all these years, my memory has cllouded the plot somewhat; but I have never been able to go into an antiques store without wondering if there was an object inside that would draw ME into another place, as well! A must read for your sophisticated pre-teen children!

Amazing
I read this book randomly when I was in 8th grade, I have never forgotten it. I just recently obtained the book again, and once more discovered just how wonderful it is.
