A Rare Disappointment from Janet Evanovich
Let's face it, most of us read Stephanie Plum novels for the fun and witty dialogue, as well as the immense appeal of the characters. The plot is definitely secondary. This was such a weak plot, however, that it was hard to even get into it. The ultimate pro Ranger hiring the inept Stephanie to ferret out serious business security problems at Rangeman just doesn't make sense and was a hard sell from page one.

The audio edition suffered because of the narrator Loralei King with her very lackluster, little emotion Stephanie Plum and the absolutely aggravating nasally Joe Morelli. If you like audio books and have listened to the prior numbered Plums, you'll recognize that there is something missing. I'll try to think of all the enjoyment other Stephanie Plum books/CDs have given me.

Finger Lickin Fifteen
I was very skeptical about reading book fifteen because I was so disappointed with the last couple of books in the series, but I can honestly say I was pleasantly surprised. I suspect it is partly due to the fact that characters I love were more pivotal like Grandma Mazur, and also characters I love to hate were featured. Joyce Barnhart will always be the bane of Steph's existence, and she was back in her all self-appreciating glory. This book focused a great deal on Lula and the beheading she witnesses. She is center stage in this book, and is always good for several laughs. I do have some of the same criticisms that I have had in the past. I wish Steph would step up to the plate and choose already. Pick one - Joe or Ranger, just do it! If she can't choose, maybe it is time for both men to choose another woman. Consistency seems to be a problem in this installment. Joe inherited his home from his Aunt Rose not his Aunt Ruth. I listened to the audio book, so I didn't verify how the book was actually written, but it is distracting for the historical integrity to be off. Louisa Brannigan lived a quiet orderly life until the morning her neighbor Pete Streeter stole her morning newspaper. She knocked loudly on his door yelling at him in the process, and he chose to ignore her. Furious that he could totally disregard her, she grabbed her broom and started banging on the ceiling. When Pete went to confront Louisa, he found her door wide open and walked right in to settle her down. He was stunned by how attractive she was, as was she because she was expecting some neanderthal.

When Louisa and Pete found themselves being shot at that night, he quickly pulled her under his protection, but circumstances only got worse from there. He was attacked in his apartment in the middle of the night, and she was fired from her job as press secretary to Senator Noland Bishop just because she knew Pete. Feeling that something was smelly in Washington, he convinced Louisa to help him investigate. Pete thought it would be interesting to base his next screenplay on because he could just feel a scandal waiting to be uncovered. He just hoped he could keep Louisa safe, and in the process convince her that they were perfect for each other.

I have read most of her earlier works, and this is the best of them. Louisa is a very funny character, and was perfectly paired with Pete. They are charming together.

Very good read
This book, like many others of Janet's, was great.It was a fast, well written story.It didn't have near the obstacles some of the other characters have, but it still entertained me until the end.
