Product Description

Dear Reader:

In a previous life, before the time of Plum, I wrote twelve short romance novels. Red-hot screwball comedies, each and every one of them. The romances were originally published between the years 1988 and 1992. All immediately went out of print and could be found only at used bookstores and yard sales.

I'm happy to tell you that those stories have now been re-released by HarperCollins, presented in almost original form. I've done only minor editing to correct some embarrassing bloopers missed the first time around.

Hero at Large was the very first book published. It's about a sexy guy who cooks a potholder in spaghetti sauce and charms a single mom and former world-class ice skater with the promise of a ride on his Zamboni. It's got broken bones, giant turkeys, cantankerous cars, and Aunt Edna.

This was the book that changed my life forever and made me a published author. When Hero finally reached the bookstores, I was almost arrested for loitering in Walden's. I stationed myself in the romance section and wouldn't leave until I saw someone buy my book. It took three days!

Enjoy!

5-0 out of 5 stars Funny Romance
This is the first book that I have read of hers.I am always looking for a book to make me laugh and this one had me laughing out loud.If you like slapstick comedy, you'll love this book.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not bad but she's written better
I got this book from a friend. I've read all the Stephanie Plum series and laugh like crazy through those. This isn't so much humorous as much as it seems to be an attempt at chick lit fluff. I did roll my eyes occasionally but overall it wasn't bad. I believe it to be one of her earlier books and I think that it shows as such. A decent quick read though :)

4-0 out of 5 stars her best romance book
I thought it was better than her other romance books, but of course not as good as her later stuff.

3-0 out of 5 stars Cute!
It was a cute story...nothing too exciting. It was the book I kept in my handbag for when I took our daughter to her activities I could sit and read.

4-0 out of 5 stars Hero at Large
When Chris Nelson's car breaks down on the side of the road, it seems like a stroke of good luck when a sexy stranger stops to help her.Ken Callahan is a gorgeous - in a disreputable looking way - construction worker on the way to his first day at a new job. Then Chris accidentally breaks his arm and winds up with an unexpected roommate. The single mother and former professional ice skater has neither the time nor interest for a man in her life, despite what her Aunt Edna says. And Chris definitely doesn't have the patience for a man who cooks a potholder into spaghetti, takes it rather well when she breaks his toe, and charms her meddling aunt and adorable seven-year-old.But is Ken too good to be true?Or is Chris looking for a way to keep herself from falling in love again before it's too late?

Broken bones, cooking calamities, and one hunky, persistent suitor - I think it takes someone like Janet Evanovich to mix all those elements together and make it work.Hero at Large is frothy fun and Ms. Evanovich definitely made me laugh with some of the zaniness Chris and company face. The romance in Hero at Large is a bit understated and the walls around Chris's heart are overly high, but I still enjoyed this story.Ken is a wonderful hero, although I'd be wary about letting him near my kitchen unsupervised. This is my first introduction to Ms. Evanovich's writing, and I can see why she has garnered legions of fans. Her deft touch with goodhearted humor makes it easy to care about her characters. So even though there could have been more substance to the romance for me, all in all I enjoyed my trip into Chris and Ken's world.

Product Description

Filled with Evanovich's trademark style and wit, Full House is romantic suspense with a twist...

Her life was pleasant, proper, and predictable-- until he showed up and trouble moved in...

Polo instructor Nicholas Kaharchek senses danger the minute he sees Billie Pearce. She represents everything he's so artfully avoided. Happy in her home life, a divorced mother of two, Billie is the epitome of stability. They have nothing in common.

To his horror, Nick is fascinated-- and irresistibly attracted. When Billie generously offers to share her home with Nick's crazy cousin Deedee for a while, Nick finds himself visiting-- often. And while each is slowly seduced by the other's charms, and both are wildly encouraged by devious Deedee, Billie and Nick find out that what they have in common is most important of all. But neither one knows that danger is lurking where they least expect it and a killer is closing in on them.

2-0 out of 5 stars I'm confused...
As I was reading I noticed in one chapter that Nick is referred to as Neil and Joel is called Joey in several paragraphs.I'm not sure if this occurred because of them making the book "bigger & better" but it was very distracting. Why would the editor not catch this?

this book was in the condition described and arrived in a timely fashion.i am satisfied with this purchase.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not even funny
Most of Evanovich's books are improbable and ridiculous but so funny I laugh out loud at them.Manhunt wasn't even funny. It was poorly written and had nothing to recommend it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Read it on an Alaskan Cruise for a fun time!
I have read almost every book Janet Evanovich has written and this one is as good as any. It was especially fun to read because I brought it with me on an Alaskan Cruise vacation. I finished reading it during the 7 day cruise. If you haven't read Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plumb series, do yourself a favor and start it today!!!The first book is called "One for the Money".It is laugh out loud funny and also very sexy. Happy reading!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Manhunt - Fun Filled Romp
Yes, our heroine is not Stephanie Plumb.Manhunt is from before Evanovich started the Stephanie Plumb series, and you can definitely see how she was warming up to it.

Alexandra Scott lives in Princeton, NJ (my hometown, so that was a fun tidbit) and a NY Wall Street executive who leaves it all for a massive change of pace and to go on a Manhunt for a husband in Alaska. She has some of the reckless qualities which you will recognize as some wonderful early practice for developing Stephanie Plumb.

There is a fun dog who is a bit crazed for donuts and curmudgeon as her new employee. This is a well-written fun-filled romp and makes for a light-hearted afternoon read on a lazy weekend afternoon.

Highly recommend for those whose love the genre.

Ten Big Ones
She's accidentally destroyed a dozen cars. She's a target for every psycho and miscreant this side of the Jersey Turnpike. He mother's convinced she'll end up dead...or worse, without a man. She's Stephanie Plum and she kicks butt for a living (well, she thought it would sound good to put it that way...)

It begins as an innocent trip to the deli-mart, on a quest for nachos. But Stephanie Plum and her partner, Lula, are clearly in the wrong place at the wrong time. A robbery leads to an explosion, which leads to the destruction of yet another car. It would be just another day in the life of Stephanie Plum...except that she becomes the target of a gang. And the target of an even scarier, more dangerous force that comes to Trenton. With super bounty hunter Ranger out of town (and Stephanie on the outs with vice cop Morelli), she finds herself alone, with a decision to make: how to protect herself and where to hide while on the hunt for a killer known as the Junkman. There's only one safe place, and it has Ranger's name all over it-if she can find it. And if the Junkman doesn't find her first. With Lula riding shotgun and Grandma Mazur on the loose, Stephanie Plum is racing against the clock in her most suspenseful novel yet. Ten Big Ones is page-turning entertainment and Janet Evanovich is the best there is.

Eleven on Top
Stephanie Plum is thinking her career as a fugitive apprehension agent has run its course. She’s been shot at, spat at, cussed at, fire-bombed, mooned, and attacked by dogs. Stephanie thinks it’s time for a change. So she quits. She wants something safe and normal. But the kind of trouble she had at the bail bonds office can’t compare to the kind of trouble she finds herself facing now…

Stephanie is stalked by a maniac returned from the grave for the sole purpose of putting her into a burial plot of her own. He’s killed before, and he’ll kill again if given the chance. Caught between staying far away from the bounty hunter business and staying alive, Stephanie reexamines her life and the possibility that being a bounty hunter is the solution rather than the problem. After disturbingly brief careers at the button factory, Kan Klean Dry Cleaners, and Cluck-in-a-Bucket, Stephanie takes an office position in security, working for Ranger, the sexiest, baddest bounty hunter and businessman on two continents. Tempers and temperatures rise as competition ratchets up between the two men in her life—her on-again, off-again boyfriend, tough Trenton cop Joe Morelli, and her boss, Ranger. Can Stephanie Plum take the heat? Can you?

Twelve Sharp
FIRST A STRANGER APPEARS
While chasing down the usual cast of miscreants and weirdos, Stephanie discovers that a crazed woman is stalking her.

THEN THE STRANGER REVEALS HER SECRETS
The woman dresses in black, carries a 9mm Glock, and has a bad attitude and a mysterious connection to dark and dangerous Carlos Manoso …street name, Ranger.

NEXT, SOMEBODY DIES
The action turns deadly serious, and Stephanie goes from hunting skips to hunting a murderer.

SOON, THE CHASE IS ON
Ranger needs Stephanie for more reasons than he can say. And now, the two are working together to find a killer, rescue a missing child, and stop a lunatic from raising the body count. When Stephanie Plum and Ranger get too close for comfort, vice cop Joe Morelli (her on-again, off-again boyfriend) steps in. Will the ticking clock stop at the stroke of twelve…or will a stranger in the wind find a way to stop Stephanie Plum…forever?

Product Description

The First Full Length Stephanie Plum Between-the-Numbers Novel from #1 Bestselling Author Janet Evanovich.
Turn on all the lights and check under your bed. Things are about to get spooky in Trenton, New Jersey. According to legend, the Jersey Devil prowls the Pine Barrens and soars above the treetops in the dark of night. As eerie as this might seem, there are things in the Barrens that are even more frightening and dangerous. And there are monkeys. Lots of monkeys. Wulf Grimoire is a world wanderer and an opportunist who can kill without remorse and disappear like smoke. He’s chosen Martin Munch, boy genius, as his new business partner, and he’s chosen the Barrens as his new playground. Munch received his doctorate degree in quantum physics when he was twenty-two. He’s now twenty-four, and while his brain is large, his body hasn’t made it out of the boys’ department at Macy’s. Anyone who says good things come in small packages hasn’t met Munch. Wulf Grimoire is looking for world domination. Martin Munch would be happy if he could just get a woman naked and tied to a tree. Bounty hunter Stephanie Plum has Munch on her most-wanted list for failure to appear in court. Plum is the all-American girl stuck in an uncomfortable job, succeeding on luck and tenacity. Usually she gets her man. This time she gets a monkey. She also gets a big guy named Diesel.  Diesel pops in and out of Plum’s life like birthday cake – delicious to look at and taste, not especially healthy as a steady diet, gone by the end of the week if not sooner. He’s an über bounty hunter with special skills when it comes to tracking men and pleasing women. He’s after Grimoire, and now he’s also after Munch. And if truth were told, he wouldn’t mind setting Stephanie Plum in his crosshairs. Diesel and Plum hunt down Munch and Grimoire, following them into the Barrens, surviving cranberry bogs, the Jersey Devil, a hair-raising experience, sand in their underwear, and, of course . . . monkeys.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good beach read
This is an entertaining, fast read for the money.Janet Evanovich is always good for some laughs.

4-0 out of 5 stars Deep in the Pines, where the Jersey Devil lurks...
...go running Stephanie and Lula and a fellow named Diesel and a monkey named Carl. I liked this book. I can't say that it was actually "spooky" but it tried. After all, Janet is not King or Koontz, and what we expect from her is crime and romance deep in the bowels of Trenton. This tale was a nice diversion. One of the things that keeps me returning is the geographical correctness of the locale (I grew up in Trenton, and Janet has the city right). The other is Stephanie, of course. Joe and Ranger, yes; Lula, oh yeah; and certainly Grandma. The characters in this series overpower the story lines and transcend the antics and predicaments they get themselves into, and in a series, that is as it should be. This little tale took us into an obscure part of southern New Jersey known as the Pine Barrens, a real place, and the story ran in such a way as to evoke the true essence of the area. It had the usual happy ending, and was told in such a manner that one didn't need to have read all the other Stephanie Plum stories to have an idea of what was going on. Overall, a good bit of entertainment to pass a few hours on the beach or on the plane.

5-0 out of 5 stars Another one in the series to love
As much as I love these Stephanie Plum novels, I really love the in-between the numbers books. This book was funny and full of twists and turns.I just kept reading it until there were no more pages left (just like I always do.)Thank You Janet!I'm truly addicted.

3-0 out of 5 stars Fun read but a little too silly, even for Evanovich.
Great book for numbers fans who need a fix until the next one. But if you haven't read an installment featuring Diesel, you should know he's like a make-believe character. I enjoyed the ride, but found it hard to imagine the regular characters, or Stephanie, believing in fairy tales of this magnitude. Bring on 17 please!

4-0 out of 5 stars Jersey Girls Don't Pump Gas!
I love that the Stephanie Plum series is set in New Jersey. I learned alot about the Pine Barrens in Plum Spooky, an area of my native state that I'm not too familar with. However, there were 2 references to Stepanie (& Diesel) pumping gas in that book, a fact that any Jersey Girl would never want to do (besides, it's illegal to pump your own gas in New Jersey). Other than that, I love the outrageous characters and plots of Janet Evanovich's books. ... Read more

Product Description

Dear Reader:

In a previous life, before the time of Plum, I wrote twelve short romance novels. Red-hot screwball comedies, each and every one of them. Nine of these stories were originally published by the Loveswept line between the years 1988 and 1992. All went out-of-print immediately and then could be found only at used bookstores and yard sales.

I'm excited to tell you that those nine stories are now being re-released by HarperCollins. Love Overboard is second in the lineup, and it's presented here in almost original form. I've done only minor editing to correct some embarrassing bloopers missed the first time around. And I changed the title because I thought the original title (Ivan Takes a Wife) was boring!

Love Overboard is a romantic tale about a handsome ship's captain; a wary wench from Jersey City; a hundred-year-old, two-masted schooner; and an entire town of shoemakers. There's some getting naked, some blueberry pie, more getting naked, and at the end . . . Okay, I won't tell you about the end, but it's really good and it'll make you feel happy.

I took my family on the road trip from heck to research this book. When we finally got to Maine it was all worthwhile because we fell in love with the boats and the people who sailed them.

Enjoy!

this book looks almost brand new.i was very surprised.ipaidless than i would have to pay at the store for this and it looks like i bought it in the store.pleasantly surprised.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great read
After discovering Janet's Stephanie Plum series, I wanted to read everything by her. I bought this pre-Plum re-release in paperback. Loved it. You can definately see the Plum style in her earlier writing. I just recently bought the Kindle edition to have for my collection. My mother is on my Kindle account and I know she would enjoy reading this as well.

It's an odd story about a guy who hires a woman from NJ to be his wife. He needs her to get his family off his back and get his business going. She is a writer that is working on a book about a family member with an unsavory past. Both think this set up would be perfect business deal. Of course, they didn't count on falling in love. Yes, it's an overly used plot, but Janet makes it work. I tried to read some of her other romances, but couldn't get into them. I just loved the story, loved all the characters, and of course...loved the ending.

Although I am not happy with the downward spiral of the Plum series, I have to give credit where credit is due. This was a great book. When Janet puts effort into her writing and she is on, we get a great story. Including some of the Plum books, this is one of my favorites that I have read by Janet. When I can't stop reading because I'm so into the book, it gets 5 stars. I couldn't put this book down.

4-0 out of 5 stars cute quick read
I've read everything by Janet. It's always a fun quick read when i need a pick me. Always find myself laughing at her charactors antics.

5-0 out of 5 stars Early Janet Evanovich - Wife for Hire, NJ Tomboy Finds Love in Skogen, VT
This is one of Janet Evanovich's early madcap novels, pre-Stephanie Plumb, now reissued after being so long out of print.Of course, being one of her early works, it is not a mature a style and richly nuanced at her super popular (yes I AM a fan!) Stephanie Plumb novels. If you can read it with that in mind and want to get a fun romping glimpse into her early writing, you will love this book. However, if you're expecting it to be Stephanie Plumb Re Deux, you would be disappointed.Just wait for the next Stephanie Plumb or re-read one which you already have.

That said, our heroine is (yes!) a New Jersey Girl, Maggie Toone, who was a tomboy with a kooky independent streak in here having grown up in a brick-making town of Riverside. She is an English teacher who has recently inherited her Aunt Kitty's Madam of a Bordello's Diary. The action opens on her 27th birthday picnic and cake celebration where she has just left being a school teacher and announces her intentions to her mother and Aunt that she will take a year off and go write a book based on the diary.

To do that, she has answered and Advertisement (one of those fun tidbits which dates the writing of it that the ad wasn't placed online like at Craig's List, or could you imagine, Ebay? lol) for a Wife For Hire.Hence the name of the novel.

Our hero is Hank (dreamy masculine name, of course) Mallone is a former hockey player (well that grabbed my attention because being from NJ myself, I am, ergo a hockey fan!) now lately an organic farmer of apples.

I won't ruin the plot for you, but of course, there are mutual madcap escapades.A pre-Grandma Mazure character in the housekeeper Elsie. And you can see some similarities of personality and hair challenges of Stephanie Plumb in Maggie.

All in all, a delightful weekend read.I literally curled up on a weekend morning with cup after cup of hot tea in the winter to read this.To me that is an idyllic weekend - reading and hot tea.

Highly recommend for a cold weekend and some hot tea reading!

Product Description

It's five days before Christmas and things are not looking merry for Fugitive Apprehension Agent Stephanie Plum. She hasn't got a tree. She hasn't bought any presents. The malls are jam-packed with staggering shoppers. There's not a twinkle light anywhere to be seen in her apartment.

And there's a strange man in her kitchen.

Sure, this has happened to Stephanie Plum before. Strangers, weirdos, felons, creeps, and lunatics are always finding their way to her front door. But this guy is different. This guy is mysterious, sexy-and he has his own agenda. His name is Diesel and he is a man on a mission. And Diesel is unlike anyone Stephanie has ever met before in her life. The question is, what does he want with her? Can he help her find a little old toy maker who has skipped out on his bail right before Christmas? Can he survive the Plum family holiday dinner? Can he get Stephanie a tree that doesn't look like it was grown next to a nuclear power plant? These questions and more are keeping Stephanie awake at night. Not to mention the fact that she needs to find a bunch of nasty elves, her sister Valerie has a Christmas "surprise" for the Plums, her niece Mary Alice doesn't believe in Santa anymore, and Grandma Mazur has a new stud muffin. So bring out the plastic reindeer, strap on your jingle bells, and get ready to celebrate the holidays-Jersey style. Visions of Sugar Plums-the world of Plum has never been merrier!
Amazon.com Review
Christmas in bounty hunter Stephanie Plum's world isn't quite like Christmas in Whoville. With only four days to go before December 25, she doesn't have a decorated tree in her apartment or any presents bought. Plus she's chasing an elusive bail-jumper named Sandy Claws; a hunky guy named Diesel is literally popping in and out of her apartment; and a mob of manic elves is threatening to assault her with cookies. The end result is that Stephanie is feeling a tad stressed over the holiday season. Life isn't any calmer over at her parents' home in the Burg, where Grandma Mazur is dating a new octogenarian stud muffin; sister Valerie is wailing over some unwelcome news; and Stephanie's mother is coping by belting back tumblers of Red Roses in the kitchen. Just where is the elusive Mr. Claws hiding, and why? What's causing the power blackouts all over Trenton? And what about the mysterious villain, Mr. Ring? Is all of this real, or is Stephanie just having a very bad dream?

Janet Evanovich's mysteries are eagerly awaited by fans everywhere and this holiday installment won't disappoint. With a returning cast of entertaining, quirky characters and a rock-solid setting in New Jersey wrapped around an intriguing mystery, Evanovich delivers yet another hilarious adventure featuring irrepressible bounty hunter Stephanie Plum. --Lois Faye Dyer ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Not worth the read, you aren't missing anything
To start, I am a huge Stephanie fan. I have all of the books from the numbered series in paperback and read them over and over again. But, after reading "Visions", I have not and will not read it again. I found the character of Diesel very silly and I'm glad he is not in any of the books in the regular series. The whole fantasy aspect of the book made it hard to read. "To The Nines" takes up several months after "Hard Eight" leaves and Janet lets you know some of what happens in between, excluding any reference to Diesel. You learn Valerie becomes pregnant after "Hard Eight" like she did in "Visions". Because of how awful "Visions" was, I didn't bother to read "Plum Loving" or "Plum Lucky" and wouldn't read the new "Wicked Appetite" if you gave it to me for free.

5-0 out of 5 stars Just as good!
Like all of Stephanie's adventures, Janet doesn't disappoint in this one.The new character is great and I couldn't wait to read all of the "in-between" books!Perfect for those of us who read all of the number series - and wanted more.

1-0 out of 5 stars do not buy this book
I loved all the number books, this one however was terrible. it is not worth the paper it is printed on. there is no substance. i think she wrote this in one day just to get a book out.

you will be horribly disappointed.

5-0 out of 5 stars great book
This arrived before the specified date and was in the condition descriped.Great book to complete my set.

One for the Money
ONE FINE MESS
Welcome to Trenton, New Jersey, home to wiseguys, average Joes, and Stephanie Plum, who sports a big attitude and even bigger money problems (since losing her job as a lingerie buyer for a department store). Stephanie needs cash-fast-but times are tough, and soon she's forced to turn to the last resort of the truly desperate: family...

ONE FALSE MOVE
Stephanie lands a gig at her sleazy cousin Vinnie's bail bonding company. She's got no experience. But that doesn't matter. As does the fact that the bail jumper in question is local vice cop Joe Morelli. From the time he first looked up her dress to the time he first got into her pants, to the time Steph hit him with her father's Buick, M-o-r-e-l-l-i has spelled t-r-o-u-b-l-e. And now the hot guy is in hot water-wanted for murder...

ONE FOR THE MONEY
Abject poverty is a great motivator for learning new skills, but being trained in the school of hard knocks by people like psycho prizefighter Benito Ramirez isn't. Still, if Stephanie can nab Morelli in a week, she'll make a cool ten grand. All she has to do is become an expert bounty hunter overnight-and keep herself from getting killed before she gets her man...

Two For The Dough
Bounty hunter Stephanie Plum is still learning the ropes at her cousin Vinnie’s bail bond office, so when she sets out on the trail of Kenny Mancuso—a suspiciously wealthy, working class Trenton boy who has just shot his best friend—the stakes are higher than ever. That Mancuso is distantly related to vice cop Joe Morelli—who is trying to beat Stephanie to the punch—only makes the hunt more thrilling….

Taking pointers from her bounty hunter pal, Ranger, and using her pistol-packing Granda Mazur as a decoy, Stephanie is soon closing in on her mark. But Morelli and his libido are worthy foes. And a more sinister kind of enemy has made his first move…and his next move might be Stephanie’s last.

Three to Get Ready
A "saintly" old candy-store owner is on the lam-and bounty hunter extraordinaire Stephanie Plum is on the case. As the body count rises, Stephanie finds herself dealing with dead drug dealers and slippery fugitives on the chase of her life. And with the help of eccentric friends and family, Steph must see to it that this case doesn't end up being her last...

5-0 out of 5 stars Plum worth eating
I bought this set after hearing that Sherry Shepperd form the View was going to be playing the part of Lulu in the movie version of the book. The book is an easy read, flows well and lets you in to the world of Stephanie Plum. Janet Evanovich's writing is descriptive but not drawn out and on an 8Th grade level. I bought the set to read to see where they get the ideas for the movie when it comes out. I hope this helps you.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good book!
These are great books and I love Janet's writing technique. Perfect light reading for the summer. These books aren't as good as the Stephanie Plum series, but still really good reads!

5-0 out of 5 stars Yet Another Great Read!
Janet Evanovich did it again. This was funny! I read it in one day ('cause I couldn't put it down).

2-0 out of 5 stars Not a Full Scoop
This recording is rather dull which means the book is dull. Would someone please tell Lorelei to get a new range of voice overs for her black characters.

3-0 out of 5 stars Oh how I miss Stephanie Plum
These books are enjoyable, light, and fluffy. You can easily knock them out in one night. Although, unlike the Stephanie Plum books, you might not really feel the inclination to. I did not find myself caring about these characters as much as in the Stephanie series. I honestly did not feel the romance and intensity that Stephanie and Morelli, or even Stephanie and Ranger have in any of these novels. Jamie and Max are endearing, and they have grown on me. The romance in this novel especially seems forced and unnatural to me. There is no sufficient characterization to make you care about Maggie and Zack. I think part of the problem may be there is no central voice in this series. Stephanie is a consistant, direct perspective that allows us to get comfortable. The Full series kind of jumps around and never lets you get comfotable with the narrative.

I sound very dire I know. The book is cute, at times funny, and there is some mild mystery. However, do not go into it thinking the writing or plot is going to be as sharp, funny, intense, or enjoyable as Stephanie Plum.

2-0 out of 5 stars Avoid this partnership if you are an Evanovich fan
This is the third book by this partnership I've skimmed. They are not worth the time even to do that. The characters are cartoonish and idiotic;the slapstick galling rather than amusing.Avoid. ... Read more

Product Description

Three Complete Novels, One for the Money, Two for the Dough, and Three to Get Deadly, from the New York Times#1 Bestselling Author, Janet Evanovich!

Here's where it all began -- the three novels that first brought us Stephanie Plum, that bounty hunter with attitude who stepped out of Trenton's blue-collar "burg" and into the heart of America.

One for the Money: Stephanie's all grown up and out on her own, living five miles from Mom and Dad and doing her best to sever the world's longest umbilical cord. Her mother is a meddler and her grandmother is a few cans short of a case. Out of work and out of money, Stephanie blackmails her bail-bondsman cousin Vinnie into giving her a try as an apprehension agent. Stephanie knows zilch about the job requirements, but she figures her new pal, el-primo bounty hunter Ranger, can teach her what it takes to catch a crook. Her first assignment: nail Joe Morelli, a former vice cop on the run from a charge of murder one. Morelli's the inamorato who charmed Stephanie out of her virginity at age sixteen. There's still powerful chemistry between them, so the chase is interesting.

Two for the Dough: Stephanie takes to the mean streets of Trenton, armed with attitude (not to mention stun guns and defense sprays), to find Kenny Mancuso, who recently shot his best friend and is on the run. Aided by the enigmatic Ranger, who knows a thing or two about bounty hunting, and by her irrepressible Grandma Mazur, Stephanie forms a shaky alliance with her favorite cop, Joe Morelli, for a tumultuous chase through back alleys and Grandma's favorite funeral parlors.

Three to Get Deadly: Stephanie is having a bad hair day -- for the whole month of January. She's looking for Mo Bedemier, Trenton's most beloved citizen, who was charged with carrying concealed and skipped bail. To help her, she's got Lula, a former hooker turned file clerk. Big, blonde, and black, Lula's itching to lock up a crook in the trunk of her car. And Morelli, the cop with the slow-burning smile, is acting polite even after Stephanie finds more bodies than the Trenton PD has seen in years. That's a bad sign for sure.

Funny and fabulous, Janet Evanovich is at her sparkling best in these three novels that launched a bestselling phenomenon. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Meet Stephanie Plum...one of the most lovable characters in fiction
Just as Sue Grafton named her Kinsey Milhone mystery novels according to the alphabet ("A is for Alibi", "B is for Burglar", etc.), Evanovich has named her series about lovable Trenton-area bounty hunter Stephanie Plum "by the numbers." This volume contains the first three novels in the series, "One for the Money", "Two for the Dough", and "Three to Get Deadly."

Stephanie finally has moved out of her childhood home (a full five miles away from her conservative, traditional parents and her hilariously wacky Grandma Mazur), and is trying to figure out both her own identity (besides her lifelong family role) and how to make a living now that she's been fired from her job as a lingerie buyer and her Miata has been repossessed. Stephanie blackmails her scumbag cousin Vinnie, who owns a bail bonds office, into giving her a chance at being an "apprehension agent" (AKA bounty hunter). Bounty huntering turns out to be a lot harder, and a lot less glamorous, than it looked on TV. Fortunately for her, she is informally apprenticed to the best in the business, a sexy and mysterious guy nicknamed Ranger. Stephanie's first assignment is to find and capture vice cop Joe Morelli, who is on the run after being charged with first-degree murder. Morelli, devastatingly handsome, had taken Stephanie's innocence when they were both in their teens and had broken her heart. Stephanie is torn between her desire for revenge and her sexual and romantic attraction for him, which to her dismay reignites during the chase. Meanwhile, she is being stalked by a championship boxer who also happens to be a maniacal serial rapist and murderer. And that's only the first book. The next two stories are filled with equally dangerous and emotionally complicated situations.

Evanovich's genius is that she is able to turn these deadly and hair-raising situations into sidesplitting romps with a totally lovable cast of characters. From Lula, the black, bleached blonde, plus-sized former hooker who loves animal-print spandex and fast food and becomes both Vinnie's file clerk and Stephanie's sidekick, to meddling Mrs. Plum, who makes a mean pineapple upside-down cake (and also makes attendance at Sunday dinner a command performance for her frustrated but dutiful daughter), to energetic, gossip-loving and quirky Grandma Mazur, whose favorite social pastime is going to open casket viewings at the local funeral home (so that she'll have something to talk about at her next hairdresser appointment), to Joe Morelli, the hunky Italian-American bad boy turned vice cop who hates Stephanie's job and wants her to become a traditional housewife (fat chance!), to Ranger, whose mysterious past, dark good looks, sexy shower gel and brutal competence at his job combine to make him as fascinating, compelling and terrifying as a magnificent but deadly snake, these fabulous characters become more familiar and addictive with each new book in the series.

If you haven't yet read any of the Stephanie Plum series by New York Times #1 bestselling author,Janet Evanovich, don't deprive yourself of this wickedly funny treat for another minute. Just jump in and enjoy the ride. You'll be grateful you did... and that there are now sixteen by-the-numbers books in the series (and several "in between the numbers" books as well) so you can keep visiting with these new "old friends". Or if you came into Stephanie's tales in the middle (as I did), do yourself a favor and go back to the beginning with this book, "Three Plums in One". Knowing the history will enrich your enjoyment of the later books in the series.

4-0 out of 5 stars good condition
this book came in a timely fashion. the condition was as described.i am very happy with this purchase.

4-0 out of 5 stars one very funny story
This is one very funny story.I have enjoyed her 'Plum' stories, so I thought I would see what this one was like.
A divorced mom of two, Lizabeth, has moved into an old house in a new neighborhood. It is summer and she has arranged for her Aunt Elsie to watch her kids while she looks for or works at a job.She finds a job in the neighborhood working for a construction outfit. This where it gets silly."He was big.He was half undressed. He was gorgeous."It never seems to stop. She is simply beautiful and he is out of this world. They fall for each other like a ton of bricks. It is trite, but her writing and the other characters are very good and interesting.Much as I wanted to write this book off as bad, I could not help laughing and reading more.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good lighthearted holiday read...

I'm not usually a fan of romance, but I liked this book. It was a quick, easy, lighthearted read with just enough humour and romance to work.

Perfect reading for a holiday when you're lounging around on the beach.

This is the first book I've ever read by Janet Evanovich. I look forward to reading more of her work.

1-0 out of 5 stars One-dimensional, annoying characters
"Because I'm a Mooooooooom!"...You know, even though I'm not a child lover, I can usually tolerate them in books and movies. But this one, with the attitude of Lizabeth throughout the book and the ramming down your throat of the responsibilities of motherhood, was so annoying I almost didn't finish it.If it hadn't been so short and so quick to read, I probably wouldn't have.I certainly couldn't identify with Lizabeth, and didn't even like her.The plot was sad, even for a romance novel. There was nothing interesting about the book at all.

I love Stephanie Plum with all my heart, but that's really the only thing Evanovich has done well.

3-0 out of 5 stars Smitten
Lizabeth Kane was desperate to find a job. After getting divorced, she needed to find some way to support her two boys, but she had no experience at doing anything. When she saw the construction site near her home advertising a help wanted for a carpenter, she thought it would be perfect, and within walking distance from home.Matt Hallahan couldn't believe it when she told him her story about needing a job, but couldn't bring himself to turn her down.He knew he would find something for her to do.As Matt got to know Lizabeth and her kids, the more he found himself unable to stay away.He wasn't Mr. Commitment, but found himself wanting one with her.Only to his surprise, she didn't want to get involved because she wanted to learn to be self-sufficient and on her own.Matt couldn't fault her for wanting to make it on her own, but he was determined to change her mind because as far as he was concerned, she was already his.He just had to figure out how to get her to love a guy that has a Harley and a tattoo. When a flasher makes nightly appearances at Lizabeth's house, Matt has the perfect excuse to move in!

Enjoyable read. This is an earlier work of JE, and you can see character similarities from this book incorporated into the Plum series.

Product Description

Dear Reader:

In a previous life, before the time of Plum, I wrote twelve short romance novels. Red-hot screwball comedies, each and every one of them. Nine of these stories were originally published by the Loveswept line between the years 1988 and 1992. All immediately went out of print and could be found only at used bookstores and yard sales.

I'm excited to tell you that those nine stories are now being re-released by HarperCollins. Naughty Neighbor is the eighth in the lineup, and it's presented here in almost original form. Usually when I edit these books I do some modernizing. For instance, I change VHS to DVD, and roller skates to Rollerblades, and sticks of gum are now pieces of gum. I do this because the books were meant to be contemporary (as opposed to historical), and I don't want the reader to have a time disconnect. In the beginning of the original Naughty Neighbor, my heroine throws a handheld phone into the toilet, and the next morning she goes into the bathroom and sees the "slim silver antenna caught between the toilet lid and seat." Okay, so most phones don't have extended antennas anymore, but I just loved the image . . . so I left it in. And I don't know how many women wear front-closure bras anymore, but that got left in, too.

Naughty Neighbor is probably the most romancey of all the Loveswepts I wrote, but there's still a small mystery to unravel. Louisa Brannigan is a no-nonsense, hardworking press secretary, fighting her way to the top of Capitol Hill, with no help from her annoying neighbor, Pete Streeter. He receives phone calls all night long, he steals her morning paper, he thinks jeans are formal wear, and worst of all he's involved Louisa in the disappearance of a pig. So this is the story of a pig in Witness Protection and love being found by a workaholic woman and a fun-loving man who makes terrible pots of coffee.

Enjoy!

2-0 out of 5 stars Super Cheesy!
This was one of the cheesiest romance novels I've ever read. I can do cheese (I love Twilight for God's sake!) but this was over the top even for me. In addition to the romance plot line there was also a mystery plot line that seemed implausible and I had trouble following. People say that Evanovich is really funny but that wasn't true of this book.

To be fair, this book was written pre-Stephanie Plum days and probably wouldn't have been rereleased if it wasn't for the success of the Stephanie Plum series. I've only read One for the Money and it was quite a bit better than this book.

I listened to the audio version of this book and the narrator was not good. She had an overly theatrical voice that heightened the cheesiness level that much more. I may have liked this book better if I had read the paper version.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not fun...
From the start, I thought Louisa was ridiculously high-maintenance. She had the temper of a spoiled rich kid. And, really, this book was just a bit boring. She had long paragraphs of useless information about why someone did something, or their history, but it was unnecessary stuff that had no point. I flipped through pages a lot.

5-0 out of 5 stars Janet Evanovich Fan!
I love just about anything written by Janet Evanovich. Her writing style is wonderful, her characters come alive on the pages, and her plot lines are fun and exciting. I highly recommend this book, which is a reprint of a 1992 book, written before Stephanie Plum and her adventures.

5-0 out of 5 stars cute and funny
Anything Janet Evanovich writes is good reading/listening for me. The characters are funny but usually lovable, always a good ending, even if a little predictable. This book is no exception.

4-0 out of 5 stars I know why she's so popular
Janet Evanovich has an incredible ear for dialogue.THis makes her books just sing and the reader just sails along on a good story which is not too mentally taxing but an awful lot of fun.

This story centers around a missing pig, a lady named Louise and her upstairs neighbor Pete Streeter, who becomes obsessed with the mystery of the missing pig which ends up involving a political scandal, corruption and not too many twists and turns. The sleuthing is minimal, but there's a nice romance, and Louise is a nicely developed character as she wrestles with her own ambitions and the choices she makes in the course of the romance. A nice light read.Perfect for the beach! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Still fun and flirty
Background: I spent about 2 months this summer reading the numbered Plum novels back to back. I had initially skipped the between-the-numbers novels after reading several Amazon reviews. After a month of no Plum novels at all, I decided the in-between books were better than nothing. So I started reading this anthology of the first three in-between books, fully expecting to be disappointed.

I actually wasn't disappointed at all. I already knew to expect less Morelli and Ranger, but I didn't expect the new character Diesel to be so likable. These stories have holiday themes and supernatural elements, which give them a slightly different feel than Plum fans might be used to, but it's all still fun and humorous and there's still just the right amount of flirting and sexual tension.

I think it's a good thingI waited until I finished the numbered novels to read the in-betweens, because I don't think the two series flow very well together. Reading this anthology, I felt like I was getting a completely different and fresher view of Stephanie's world that I never would have gotten had I stuck to books 1-16.

I kind of wish the 4th in-between novel Plum Spooky (A Between-the-Numbers Novel) was written soon enough to make this book. I think it's even better than the first three.

3-0 out of 5 stars Another book
I like Janet Evanovich's novels, but they seem to become somewhat redundant the more of her books you read.

5-0 out of 5 stars Between The Plumbs
Great read! Three separate stories about the escapades of Stephanie Plum and her buddies. Evanovich does a great job describing the many funny situations that Plum get into. I found myself laughing out loud at time while reading this book. They are not the greatest of mystery novels but they surly entertain you. I recommend all of Evanovich's books for pure entertainment and enjoyment. So often mystery novels are so serious with complex plots they are not humanized. Evanovich characters always remind me of myself or someone I know. She does a great job of bring her characters to life.

1-0 out of 5 stars Big Disappointment!
I always look for Janet's books to come out in June and then again in the fall.June being the next in the numbered series and then in the fall for the in between novels.I never expected this author to pull a fast one and just sell a compilation of previous in between books.I was SO DISAPPOINTED!!!I felt ripped off!

5-0 out of 5 stars I don't understand Why
everyone is so disappointed and upset calling this book a scam, expecially fans of this series. If you are really a fan of this series and were eagerly waiting the next book you would know this was not a new release in the series, but a compilation of previously released titles.

You can tell just by looking at the cover this is not a new release but a compilation of her first "in between" novels. It had the names of the first 3 "in between" novels in very large print on the cover. And the title the the book is called "Between the Plums." And it clearly states on the books Amazon page that this isa very special edition containing not one, but three Between-the-Numbers books.I don't know how much clearer they can be.

By now fans of her series should know all her regular titles have the book number in the title and the "in between" novels have "Plum" in the title and they state they are an "in Between Novel". I agree with "Rob H" if you just took the time to read the descriptions you wouldn't be disappointed.

I never write reviews but I was very upset when I read all the reviews stating that the publisher was just trying to cheat people when the description of the book and what it contained were very clearly written. I also got very upset when I read a few reviews state that these were just old books with new characters written in to make a new book, when clearly this wasn't so either.Which makes it so sad that this book has such a low rating just because no one took the 10 seconds it would have taken to read the books description. ... Product Description

Dear Reader,

Welcome to the world of Jamie Swift and Max Holt! My good friend Charlotte Hughes and I have teamed up to create a series of books featuring these two characters and they've taken on a life of their own! These books are not set in the same world as my Stephanie Plum novels, but what they have in common is lovable, dysfunctional characters, villains you love to hate, and a cross-eyed way of looking at life. Jamie and Max have intense chemistry-even though they drive each other crazy. Max thinks Jamie is a magnet for trouble and Jamie thinks Max is the most annoyingly sexy, mysterious man she's ever met. She knows she should stay away from him. But boy, oh boy, do the sparks fly when they get together. Jamie is a newspaper owner from a small southern town. And in Full Speed, she's after the story of a lifetime. Max Holt is right in the middle of that story, and so Jamie tracks down the millionaire playboy, forcing him to take her on as partner. What follows is a story of a corrupt minister, a gang of mobsters on the loose, a hound dog called Fleas, a wise-cracking computer genius, and lots of love in the fast lane. Not to mention plenty of steamy action between Jamie and Max.

So have fun with Full Speed. We're going to sign off now and get back to creating more romantic adventures between Jamie Swift and Max Holt. Enjoy and happy reading!

5-0 out of 5 stars Good book!
Great light summer time read. Not quite as good as the stephanie Plum series, but still a great read!

3-0 out of 5 stars Where's the heat?
Full Speed picks up almost exactly where Full Tilt leaves off, with Max and Jamie headed out of South Carolina and into Tennessee in search of the mysterious Reverend Harlan Rawlins. The Reverend appears to want Max dead, and he and Jamie want to know why. This book had all of the madcap zaniness you've come to expect from a book with "Evanovich" on the cover, but this one wasn't as good as the past two.I felt like a lot of the heat was missing between Max and Jamie.Hopefully they'll find it again in the next book? I did enjoy the truck-lovin', country-western-hatin' hound dog, Fleas, and hope we see more of him in the future.

3-0 out of 5 stars fluffy but fun
This is the 3rd in the light mystery series featuring reporter Jamie Swift and millionaire playboy Max Holt. IIRC (it's been a few years), it's based on a romance Janet Evanovich wrote back in her Loveswept days. Jamie and Max didn't, however, live happily ever after--they keep skirting around the issue, irritating each other, working together, and occasionally losing control and succumbing to a clinch or two.

This time, they're after a crooked evangelist who's mob-connected--the same mob that tried to have Max killed in, I believe, the previous book, which is where Max and Jamie parted ways. Jamie ends up with a beat-up old truck that came with a dog named Fleas, then poses as a sex addict to go... ahem... undercover with the reverend.

Yeah, it sounds a little convoluted, and it is, but in an over-the-top, light-hearted, I Love Lucy kind of way. It's too fluffy to take even remotely seriously, but it's fun, anyway.

I didn't love Full Speed, but it's fun anyway. It's not Stephanie Plum, and it's not romance, but I wasn't expecting either. Much as I enjoy the Stephanie Plum series, I'd be disappointed if this were a clone of it--what would be the point?

I don't think this is ever going to be one of my favorite series, simply because it's just so light. It's fast, and it's funny, and it's adventurous, but everything's just on the surface. And that's great for a quick pick-me-up, but it doesn't land a book on my keeper shelves.

2-0 out of 5 stars No Thanksgiving
After having read a few of the Stephanie Plum series, which are witty, fun, and just plain great reading, I was soooo disappointed in Thanksgiving. The writing was so different, not nearly as good as the S.P. series, that I had a hard time believing it was written by the same person. My advice to others, stick to Stephanie Plum!

4-0 out of 5 stars Cute, Easy Read
This was an entertainingly fast book to read.Full of spunk.A great read in between heavier novels.Very delightful and keeps you guessing until the end.

3-0 out of 5 stars Thanksgiving
I been so busy with THANKSGIVING" I haven't had time to read it. But just looking at the begining and the back cover-it's got to be good. It's JANET EVANOVICH!

4-0 out of 5 stars Nice & Cozy
I'm a big fan of this author's series on Stephanie Plum, but I wanted something Thanksgivin-ey to read at this time of year. The lovely cover made this hard to resist. Tho I figured it was one of Janet Evanovich's older romance novels re-issued, I noticed she did not have a co-author on this one (I did not like the first novel she did with Charlotte Hughes).

The novel is a romance (not my cup of tea) but I liked this very much. It is set in Williamsburg, VA and all the ambience of the place is there. All the Thanksgiving elements are there. It revolves around two characters, a fiery red-headed potter and employee for Colonial Williamsburg and a pediatrician who are thrown together when a young mother drops her baby off for them to take care of unannounced and unplanned. The ups and downs of instant family are entertainment. Evanovich's sharpened sense of humor shines thru, and I laughed - out loud! - as her hoped-for sparks of delight appeared over and over.

This is a fast read because it's not a long book but, more than that, it's a delight. It definitely added an extra oomph to my holiday season.

5-0 out of 5 stars God read!
If you enjoy the Stephanie Plum series, you will enjoy all of the books in this series as well. They are full of quirky characters and interesting situations. ... Read more
