Godlike Machines is a must read
This is the first Science Fiction Book Club offering I've purchased in a long time. It seemed a pity that the book was not being offered to a wider market, and here it is on Amazon. Six masterful stories from six masters of science fiction.

All in all, these stories are great singularly and together are amazing. Anyone interested in writing their own Science Fiction should take note of both the story writing and the world building of these masters. Anyone who just enjoys reading science fiction will enjoy watching the stories and the scenery unfold.

* A Glimpse of the Marvelous Structure [and the Threat it Entails] - Sean Williams
* Hot Rock - Greg Egan
* Return to Titan - Stephen Baxter
* There's a Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow/Now is the Best Time of Your Life - Cory Doctorow
* Troika - Alastair Reynolds

Alone is the most fascinating and enigmatic of Reed's Great Ship stories that I've read. A Glimpse of the Marvelous Structure [and the Threat it Entails] is a well imagined combination of Williams' Structure and Mines. It is, like Swanwick'sStations of the Tides, a tale of mystery and self realization. Hot Rock is one of Egan's Amalgam stories. There is technical discussion there well over myhead that would be intriguing to anyone interested in world building. Return to Titan is one of Baxter's Xeelee sequence stories about Michael Poole. Gritty adventure and blackmail while plumbing the depths of Titan's plumbing. Tomorrow/Now is one of Doctorow's more readable romps, involving machines that convert cities to forests, hard-wired happiness, and digitizing zombies. For Reynolds' Troika you'll want to listen to Prokofiev's Lieutenant Kijé as you read a tale of bureaucracy at its worst. Play particular attention to the fourth movement.
