4-0 out of 5 stars Great gift for newlyweds
I give this book as a wedding gift to young couples, young in their walk with the Lord and new in their walk as a married couple. It's daily messages are short and to the point, coupled with a verse fromGod's Word to support their point. (Important, because if you don't have a verse, all you have is man's opinion!)It brings up issues that might otherwise go unthought about and encourages the couple to talk and write about them.My hope is that this book will help the couple to easily make time for God in their marriage and grow in wisdom and love together.

3-0 out of 5 stars Heartaches & Joys~~~~3.5 Rating
This is the first novel I've read by Pamela Ridley...it's a TOUCHING tale with some paranormal activity surrounding the main characters...with a full cast of believable characters living an ordinary existence...while making and/or accepting EXTRAORDINARY changes and/or choices that happen in their daily lives...it's about a woman taking a second chance at love...the May/December romance between Chelly and Sean is heartwarming and SENSUAL...the story is also about the coming together of an estranged father and son as they ATTEMPT to live together...with the father, Kelvin, SADLY accepting his inevitable fate and trying to make up for his past...while his son, Sean tries to FORGIVE Kelvin for those mistakes and/or shortcomings...during an EXTREMELY short span of time they each learn to love and respect one another...even though I find this story a bit slow at times...it's still an INTRIGUING read...loaded with heartaches and FINALLY some joy...ONLY a 3.5 rating.

4-0 out of 5 stars Love, Death, and Reconciliation
People die at home without home care or hospice nurses, cared for by their family and friends. This is the story of one such death.

Kelvin Price's lung cancer has spread. The thing he wants most before he dies is to see the son he walked out on twenty years earlier.

Sean Price has waited for a phone call from his father for two decades. He has multiple fantasies about how he would answer the call, all involving revenge scenarios. When the call finally comes, he's surprised to discover that what surfaces is a sense of obligation. Kelvin Price is the only father he will ever have. He must go to him.

Chelly Whitaker, Kelvin's landlady and upstairs neighbor, shepherds their reunion. Chelly is a middle-aged woman who never recovered from the death of her husband, eight-month-old daughter, and mother-in-law in a plane crash ten years earlier. They only thing that keeps her sane--if you can call it sanity--is visits from her daughter's ghost. She sees the child not as the infant she was when she died, but as a bright five-year-old.

This moving romance combines the paranormal; a search for love despite age differences (she's forty-two; he's thirty-three); and the beauty and relevance of ordinary activities, like making chicken soup for a sick man. It's a wonderful story of ordinary people showing extraordinary love and forgiveness.

4-0 out of 5 stars Keep Living
Losing a love one is never easy no matter the circumstances, but life goes on through the hurt and pain. How do you keep living? Do you ever love again? These are the problems Chelly Whitaker faces each morning she rises to see a new day.Sean Price long ago accepted the fact his father would never be a part of his life, as an adult he no longer cares, so envision his shock when he hears, 'This is your father Kelvin Price.'

Chelly sets out to help everyone she can by flipping houses, producing community plays, helping the sick and shut in, and having meaningless relationships.Sean on the other hand is trying to cram as much happiness and love into a relationship with a father who is dying.

ANOTHER MEMORY has several connecting storylines as the characters learn to trust, forgive, love, and live again.Placing your past in the past, keeping your memories, and enjoying the future one day at a time. A new love, new life, and the ability to move forward

A well written story with characters you can believe in which makes readers feel their pain.Showing us we all make mistakes, and we can't believe everything we hear and read without knowing all sides of the story. But, you can create ANOTHER MEMORY.

5-0 out of 5 stars Memories are blessings!
Ms Ridley, your book,"Another Memory" was beautiful, heartwarming, and a surprise! Read it in one day because I wanted to know Chelly and Sean; how it would end? It was a book about past hurts but in getting second chances, Chelly and Sean could forgive, grow and love. The assortment of people in their lives helped their wounded hearts to open and say YES...There were tears, chuckles, and ooohs but like the party for Kelvin, everything fell into place in its own time.New memories could become a balm for the soul... Thanks for a great read and sharing your voice. Looking forward to the next one!!! God bless and have a blessed holiday season. ... Read more

Product Description
In this unprecedented collection, Pamela Maria Smorkaloff brings together fiction from the French-, Spanish-, and English-speaking Caribbean, much of it translated here for the first time. The book's wide-ranging and diverse selections address the central themes of the region's literature: the plantation, maroon society, colonial education, rural and urban life, women's changing roles in the modern Caribbean, exile, and the diaspora. Together these pieces reveal to readers a rich and lyric literary tradition. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars If you are a student of the Caribbean - otherwise....
Colorful and charismatic, the Caribbean is abundant with stories that beg to be told. Pamela Smorkaloff, a teacher at NYU Center for Caribbean Studies, gathers stories from various islands that bring the Caribbean andits people to life in this book.

Smorkaloff's selections seek tocounterbalance the "Europeanizing" of the Caribbean reality. Theauthors she selected all have a sense of belonging to a Caribbeanconsciousness..."anchored in reality, history andculture."

From slavery and sugar cane to rural peasantry and cruiseships, these stories reflect an evolution of identity.

Though thisanthology is interesting, the writers failed to engage me.As is true withmost collections of writers, you have some that enthrall you while othersbore you."If I Could Write This In Fire" lacked outstandingauthors and had just a scattering of good writers. However, if you are astudent of the Caribbean and its culture, this book could be beneficial.Otherwise, there are better reads.Conditionally recommended. ...
