Unknown NASCAR driver Brett Drake has some of the best moves Rebecca Newman has ever seen, both on and off the track.

But she can't afford to feel anything but respect for the new driver she's hired to pilot her race car. With the financial security of her team hanging in the balance and everyone in the series thinking she's nuts, the last thing she needs is lust getting in the way of logic. Too bad Brett has other ideas.

Brett isn't afraid of a challenge, but getting close to his new owner is proving to be a tougher road than some of the superspeedways he's driven. It's going to take a secret weapon -- his daughter. Soon his precocious twelve-year-old has Rebecca on the run -- straight into Brett's arms. 1-0 out of 5 stars Needs an Editor
I understand the NASCAR romances are G-rated and must portray the sport in a glowing, positive manner, but this does not excuse the insanity of such things as a 10-year-old girl making it all the way from Louisville, KY, to Lake Norman, NC all by herself, within a day, and allowing enough time in said day for dad to be alerted and make it there before dinner time. Or the situation where the team owner, Becca Newman, called the girl's school and had her excused from class and driven to a private airfield where another NASCAR driver picked her up in his private jet--all without permission or even the knowledge of her father. And do all of Britton's female characters have green eyes and red hair? Or does she just have those cliched phrases as shortcuts on her computer and she forgot which keys she pressed?

But the best (or worst) examples of why this is a terrible book? Halfway through the story, the Kentucky girl and her dad are suddenly referring to Tennessee as their home state, and in the middle of the race descriptions, the vehicles being driven switch back and forth between trucks and cars in every other sentence.

Nothing says "I don't give a crap" like getting your OWN characters' back story wrong, so why should the reader care to read this? If you are into Z-grade writing and storytelling and enjoy groaners, check this book out at the library, but don't even waste the penny 30+ sellers are offering it for on the used market here at Amazon.

2-0 out of 5 stars a little disappointing
The heroine, Rebecca seems overly stuck on her grief with losing her late husband, Randy. I thought it dragged out way too long, and started to show a pattern with Britton's books, that often seem to have the heroine as the only one who needs to deal with some inner crisis. It was very frustrating reading several of Britton's NASCAR books, and finding this pattern. It's like, why isn't there something wrong with the hero in her books??? Why is it always the woman who seems to be holding things up?
Though, the most recent of her NASCAR novels, To the Limit did improve in this respect. I will keep reading her material and see if there is continued improvement in how she casts the heroine.

5-0 out of 5 stars LOVED THIS BOOK!

On The Edge by Pamela Britton is G-Rated romance novel. You don't miss the steam - the story and the characters are great. 5-0 out of 5 stars Pamela Clare, It is true that your novel is stunningly awesome! near to Perfection.
I decided to start Pamela Clare's romance with this book.I heard about her quite often. Some reviewer said she is a PERFECT PAMELA. Not many book she create, but I have some of her historical and contemporary.
After read this book, I could only express it with words like "Awesome", "Perfect", "Remarkable" and etc.Even she said it by herself that this novel took her seven years to complete. She wrote it during some of the most difficult years of her life.
Among the other novel she made, this is suppose her 'unfamous' one. But this book is already beyond my expectation, so I can imagine how romantic her other novels will be.
'Sweet Release' have a likeable Heroine, great Hero, good romance, great drama, and one of the best love-scene I've ever read. There is one love-scene which I consider not like the usual Historicals I've read, but more to be a sweet erotic. Its kind a new thing to me. So, I agree with one of the reviewer who mentioned this one is a mixture between classic drama of 'old' debut of Kathleen E. Woodiwiss mix with Erotic Virginia Henley's.
I can only say that if you like to read romance with great drama, then maybe you should try this book. Even its a bit long, but really worth it. 10* for me.
Some book I had from her : Surrender, Untamed, Ride the Fire, Unlawful Contact. I am impatient to read them all! But I save the best for last.

5-0 out of 5 stars Terrific Debut Novel!!
What a great book!! I was amazed to realise this was Pamela Clare's debut book.Quite simply one of the best historical romances I have read lately!!Action, adventure, perfect setting, excellent plot, one of the best love stories!!LOVED IT!!

4-0 out of 5 stars a thick, rich historical novel
Alec Kenleigh is a wealthy shipbuilder from England. One night he is set upon by thieves and knocked unconscious. In a daze of pain, he is sent to Newgate where he becomes a victim of mistaken identity and is sent to the Colonies.

Cassie Blakewell is running her father's plantation under the guise of her father being "out of town" for awhile. She's good at it, but knows she will be unable to retain her authority if people found out the truth. In the midst of all this, she purchases the Indentureship of Alec- although he's now known as Cole Braden.

When he's finally on his way to healing and awakens he's shocked to find months have gone by and that everyone is laboring under the impression he's a criminal. Cassie is smart enough to not believe his claims out right, but she does agree to send word England to make some inquiries.

In the meantime, Alec and Cassie find an unwanted attraction exists between them and, despite the interference of a local rich boy who desires Cassie's hand in marriage, they discover neither is who the other thought they were.

Pamela Clare's Historicals are classic Historical Romance Novels, to be sure. They retain the familiar themes, but they also add the spice we've come to expect from more recent entries in the romance genre. But even given that, they have a way of making you feel like you've arrived home after being away for a very long time.

In Sweet Release, Clare has written a thick, rich historical novel. It has a fierce hero, wrongly imprisoned and sent to the colonies for indentureship, A feisty heroine who runs an entire plantation for her indisposed father and enough atmosphere to make plantation life during the early days of the colonies come alive without overburdening us with mundane details.

Unfortunately, our heroine is a naïve virgin. In the past, I was able to brush over the shy machinations of a virgin too scared to handle the far more knowledgeable hero. In fact I scoffed at others who brought up this issue in other historical romance novel reviews, thinking them elitist snobs. Not anymore.

Another drawback for me was the fact I also felt like I was watching these two from afar. I'm not sure what was missing, but something kept me at a distance. Perhaps a lack of depth? Not sure, but Ride the Fire by Clare was a much better read, imo.

(PS This apparently is Ms. Clare's debut novel, so I did give the author some grace on this one!)

4-0 out of 5 stars Heart of gold heroine and wonderful romance
This is a beautiful, well written historical romance set in the early 1700's with a long cast of characters in a fascinating story that leaves you completely satisfied. There's love, betrayal, obsession, suspense and just about every other emotion that I'm completely impressed it took place in under 400 pages.

Alex Kenleigh is a strong, responsible and wealthy englishman who manages his family's shipping empire. On his way home, his coach is taken over by two hired thugs who are supposed to kill him.Instead, they badly beat him and double their profits by replacing him with a completely mutilated and unidentifiable dead body of a convict, putting an unconscious and dying Alex on a ship to America to be sold as slave labor.

Cassie Blakewell has the weight of the world on her shoulders. Her father's mind is failing and she has a very young brother, heir to their estate, to look after until he's old enough. She knows if anyone finds out about her father's condition, she'll be forced into marriage by an appointed guardian, losing her family and her freedom. So instead, Cassie takes over the family plantation and tells everyone that her father is abroad traveling on business. With much work to be done, Cassie heads to the docks to purchase additional servants when she sees Alex barely alive being beaten some more. She's told his name is Cole Braden and he's a defiler of woman, but her heart won't let her see him suffer. She offers to purchase him knowing he'll likely die.In addition to Alex, she also purchases the one slave who showed compassion enough to help Alex.

Of course Alex doesn't die and recovers rather quickly. He insists that he is not Cole Braden, but Alex Kenleigh, but no one believes him, except perhaps Cassie. She makes a deal with him and promises to pursue his claims if he'll stay, work hard and cause no trouble. As Cassie struggles to keep her family out of debt, she can't help but be drawn to Cole.Desperate and lonely, not wanting to believe he's a convict, she fantasizes that perhaps he is who he says he is and eventually falls completely in love with him.As their relationship develops, Alex becomes more desperate to prove who he is and is basically blocked at every turn, likely by the same people behind his initial attack. If anyone were to discover Cassie's affair with him, it would be the end of her reputation and likely their livelihood since no one will do business with an unmarried woman sleeping with a convict.

Like most of her novels, Pamela Clare does not hide who the bad guys are, but she does tryto throw you off track in various situations.I loved this book, and would have given it a five if it weren't for all the side stories and romances taking place.I loved Cassie and Alex so much that I wanted it to be all about them, but with a younger brother, some aspiring servants, friends, a spooky healer, and a very typical bad neighbor who wants Cassie for himself, the story sometimes veered in a direction that I didn't care enough about.Regardless, it's a keeper.

4-0 out of 5 stars Exciting, fresh and totally sweet- highly recommended!
I don't agree with the reviews that this book dragged on- I finished it in several hours and loved every moment!

This was a well-written and refreshing romantic tale- the character's relationship takes nearly 200 pages to grow before intimacy and their investment in each other seemed very authentic. It was fun to watch Alec, a wealthy gentleman, handle himself in the role of indentured servant, after being cruelly abducted, beaten, sold and waking to find himself very far from home. He handles the situation with amusement and strength, and falls in love with the unlikely object of his infatuation- the headstrong mistress of the plantation he finds himself at! The novel rounds out with an exciting and adventurous ending with a trial, escapes and hidden agendas... very fun!

With a cast of delightful characters to boot and plenty of side stories to enjoy, this is definitely an engrossing and enjoyable read. I also really enjoyed the beautiful descriptions of colonial America and the fascinating process of farming tobacco... Ms. Clare did an amazing job with her storytelling. I found myself wanting to go to Virginia!!

5-0 out of 5 stars great read
If your a sucker for romance books and a fan of Nascar then ya gotta read this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Championship writing . . .
Pamela Britton started this whole thing -- romance novels set in and around NASCAR racing -- and you have but read one or two chapters of any her books in the series to see how and why this happened. Ms. Britton knows whereof she speaks. The plot (both NASCAR and romance) is seamlessly interwoven between these two major elements in such a way that it would be impossible to separate them. But why would you want to? This is a truly delicious read.

Kristen McKenna followed her dearly-loved Dad to the racetracks, quickly becoming a rising young star in open-wheeled racing, until an accident off-track takes the life of her younger sister, and leaves Kristen lame. She can drive competently on the street, but the track is no longer a place for her to compete. So, she turns her formidable intelligence and creativity into becoming an engineer, specializing in making things go fast. Faster, actually. Planes, cars, whatever.

Workaholic Matthew Knight is a self-made multi-billionaire who uses his budget airline Fly For Less to leverage himself into the NASCAR world, even though he knows little about cars, other than they go fast and NASCAR is very popular. He looks at the team he's just purchased as an investment, expecting that someday not to far away, franchising will be the future of racing.

Todd Peters is the bad-boy number one driver for Knight's new venture, and needs a boost to get into the Chase, where the prestige and the incomes multiply exponentially. He'll do what he's supposed to do, presuming, of course, that it's something he really wants to do. He's usually to be found with a tall, gorgeous blonde hanging on his arm.

These three wonderful characters collide in Knight's garage, and the ramifications follow them through the long season. Todd's car doesn't seem to be as fast as it might, so Knight subverts his ace flight engineer into seeking a way to change the situation. Sparks fly in every direction!

To the Limit is a full-bodied, exciting, keep-you-on-the-edge-of-your-seat-turning-pages-as-fast-as-you-can book. It's full of humor of the laugh-out-loud variety. You'll find it difficult, if not impossible, to put it down, wondering as you go, which guy is going to win out in the biggest chase of all--capturing Kristen's heart. This is one fabulous story that'll keep you guessing until about ten pages from the end. And eight of those last are epilogue! (I could have done without that, but I didn't write the book. I only wish I did.)

4-0 out of 5 stars Sweet and caring story
Kristen & Matt's story was another NASCAR success for Britton. The book is a very easy read and is perfect for those days you just want to escape and not get into anything too heavy.

5-0 out of 5 stars To the Limit- A Joyfully Recommended Title
Kristen McKenna has worked for Mathew Knight in a behind the scenes capacity until now.Mathew just bought himself a NASCAR race team and he wants Kristen to be the engineering consultant for Knight Enterprises Motorsports.Kristen is wary but she can't pass up the opportunity to design racecars, even though working in a male dominated industry she'll have to work twice as hard for the respect that should come easily.

Kristen is shocked when she discovers that Matt and the driver, Todd Peters, are interested in her.She only has eyes for one of them though. When push comes to shove can he put her before his work?

I really enjoyed the first two of Pamela Briton's NASCAR books, but To The Limit is my favorite.I love Kristin. She is fearless and smart, and she possesses humor that could rival a comedian.I also love what she does for Matt. She is so good for him.Matt is wonderful. He's handsome and intelligent. I loved that the powerful and invincible Mathew Knight fell hard for Kristen just the way she is.To The Limit is a smooth read both on and off the track. It's a well-written racing story with romance, fun and excitement!

5-0 out of 5 stars Hard Evidence (I-team book 2)
I have read alot of books and this book is EXCELLENT!!! i wish there were more stars to give it.it has everything you need: suspense, HOT, HOT!!love scenes, sexy cop fighting his attraction who's tough as nails.for the first time while reading a book, i experianced so many emotions and sensations i continued to think about the book long after i had finished it.it took me 2 days to read beacuse, well, i had to sleep and work, otherwise i couldnt put it down.Book #3 Unlawful Contact was equally as gratifying.i read both books twice (immediately)and then loned them to a family member.as soon as i get them back, i will read them again.I will now judge every book agaist these 2 books for the perfect read.Book #3, Naked Edge, had the alot of the same qualities but fell a little short in comparison to #2 and #3. still a good book though.I highly, highly recomend this book.I cant wait for her next book.i'm dying without patience. Also very, very good books for a more EROTIC romance/suspense are SHananon McKennas McCloud brother books. My absolute favorite is Extreme Danger. A definate must read!!!!!! if i could, i would give it 11 stars.

3-0 out of 5 stars This is good for romantic suspense, but I'd prefer a little more of the unexpected or different.
STORY BRIEF:
Tessa is an investigative reporter for a Denver newspaper. She stops at a gas station for coffee. While there, a Spanish speaking teenager runs in crying and begging for help.Within minutes, someone drives by and shoots the girl.Tessa starts investigating who and why.

Julian is an undercover FBI agent working with the Denver police. He is closing in on the trail of a human trafficker and killer, who is behind the death of the girl.Julian wants Tessa to stop investigating and writing about this, because she is hurting his ability to catch the guy. Also, the killer is now after Tessa as well.

REVIEWER'S OPINION:
Her writing style is good. It's typical romantic suspense. It reminds me of a Shannon McKenna type plot. The difference is SM gets more into the minds and feelings of the bad guys in ways that scare me.This wasn't as scary. The major plot crisis worked, but it was predictable.I would have liked a little more of the unexpected. The ending feels good which I liked.

CAUTION POSSIBLE SPOILERS:
I did not like the following unnecessary conflicts. After Julian and Tessa spend a great first night together, Julian is scowling and acts indifferent to her.She is hurt by this, and he knows it.This didn't fit.I saw no reason for Julian to treat her this way.He also said something to her previously that was hurtful, and he knew it.But he didn't try to soothe or explain. He just left.He cares about her, yet he says things that hurt her?His life's work is going undercover to try to help women. He doesn't abuse them even when he has to act like he's abusing them for his cover. So why is he knowingly "verbally abusing" her? This didn't fit his motivations.

I'm not sure how I feel about Tessa "doing something stupid for the plot."Her life has been threatened. The police are going to put her into protective custody. But just before that begins, she sneaks away from the police to interview someone in a dangerous place, and something bad happens. On one hand this was stupid. On the other hand I sympathized.Reporters often go into dangerous situations to get the story, and I admire them. But then, Tessa is printing things and doing things that jeopardize the investigation, which I felt was leaning toward being stupid again. She should want the bad guy caught and help if possible.I am back and forth over this.

4-0 out of 5 stars Better than the first in the series, but not quite 5-star
This book was better than the first in the series - the plot was great, the pacing was very good, and the characterization was much better than her first book in the series. Kudos to the author for improving on that aspect. The only problem was her overuse of flashbacks and internal dialogue. It was especially heavy in the first half of the book, but lingered until the end, and threw me out of the story throughout. It was enough to bring it down to 4.5, rounded down to 4 stars. Overall, however, it was an improvement over the last book, and I'll probably read the next in the series once I get through more of my TBR pile. :)

4-0 out of 5 stars Great mystery/suspense thriller with a sweet/sexy romance
This was my first book by this author and I was very pleasantly surprised. With its edge-of-your-seat suspense, edgy leading man, and immersive police/FBI case, it reminded me in style to one of my favorite cop series--the Prey books by John Sanford. But it also had a sexy and sweet romance mixed into the storyline. I liked the main characters and supporting cast. The hero was an undercover agent working a long running, horrible sex crimes/human trafficking case. He came from a hard background and his adult life was just as tough given the cases he worked. While the heroine had a tough time growing up, she worked hard, got an education and became a successful investigative reporter as an adult. I liked that the characters weren't perfect and had issues to deal with. The bad guy was one of the nastiest, slimiest villians I've read about in a long time, and you really wanted to see him taken down. The only area for improvement was that the storyline was a little predictable at times, however the big mystery of the leak at the FBI was a surprise. The cover was also cheesy/lame, but I know that's not in the author's control. All in all, this was a very good read and I plan to buy the other books in this series.

1-0 out of 5 stars THE HERO WAS A TOTAL DISASTER AND THE HEROIN WAS TOO WILLING WITH HIS ABUSE
All I will say is that, the hero is repulsive and I would not want to have anything to do with this kind of man, WHY? Because the hero was a whore, who refers to women in exactly the same manner, as well as heroin, he even raped her and what she did was unbelievable!!! Not only that she not stop him, but even felt sorry for him, which in this circumstances was unacceptable, she just allow and allow him to abusing her with offensive words and actions, like heshouted in her apartment in front of everyone he will not babysit her!!!! Like she was a stupid child, and not grown women, but as I mention earlier, he only treats women like a whores, a sex object, like he said... a good f... That was out of order, and I just could not pass what he was saying to her and about her. There was just rough, hard sex, with no emotion, no connection, and nothing sweet just quick f... definitely from the hero's side. I just wasn't draw emotionally because of the hero's attitude towards women like there were dirt and the heroin was pathetic and week with her behaviour, I just could not respect her for allowing him abusing her, and when he said something to her... because we f.... few times, I don't own you my story life, I just could not believe that she didn't even slap him or say something and he even not apologise for such offensive words, he just put her in her place and she just accept it, no sorry not my cop of tee, I like the steamy sex and I don't mine word f... but, he us it to hurt her, so I could not accept that, and I like some emotions, some gentleness and some feelings between the characters, which make you want to care for the characters, but I did not care in this story, sorry, that just my personal preference, other viewers may be not offended, but I think he behave exactly like the bad guys, so I did not believe when the author tried to redeem him at the end, and how good he became, considering his background, people just don't change in a bleak of an eye!

Apart from the hero & heroin the book was not bad, I like the secondary characters and action plot, but too much violence for my liking, that being said, I appreciate the authors exploration of the trafficking issues that are very difficult and complex, if the hero would appeared a bit less vulgar, I may even give 3/5 star, but he was vulgar and the good action didn't save the story from the hero's nastiness.
This was my first book I purchased from this author, and will be definitely the last.

4-0 out of 5 stars Okay for a debut author
Damaged is book series debut of Author Pamela Callow. Since it is stated as medical thriller, in a moment, it attracts my attention because I think I never read any a medical thriller before. I can't wait to read it the moment I have it in my hands. And boy, I'm not disappointed at being that excited. Yes, it started quite flat even the author try to make it like 'the situation' and it also flipping the flashback of Kate and the present. I know Kate is like a new heroine of the series, but it turned out a little or maybe quite annoying when she feels like she has to help and do everything herself. It's not deniable that she has the enthusiasm which is good and I think it's her character to make the reader feels she is annoying.

I was quickly drawn in reading the book when Kate is starting her investigation to solve the case. The plot line is actually very engaging and locked your interest to the very end until you know who's the culprit and wondering which is which and what is what. The best part is, I tell you, is the medical part itself. It's quite challenging to understand a situation of House-like or ER-like made into a book when you have not so much knowledge on that particular matter and yes, you will be quite bore to understand and lost interest. But I like it and it's not quite hard as you would learn new things from what you're reading. However, I personally think the story is quite dragging a bit when the matter of subject is not particularly interesting in certain parts. Only hope that the sequel will be better.

The author does a terrific job for her first debut. Despite of a tiny flaw, it's actually a very good read and it's really a page turner which for me is actually an indicator it is one of a good thriller/legal crime books. Disclaimer: A free copy of this book was received from Amazon Vine in exchange for an honest review.

Damaged, by Pamela Callow, is the first book in the Kate Lange mystery series. In this book, when a teen-aged girl is found dead and dismembered, attorney Kate Lange fears that the legal advice she gave to the teenager's grandmother led to the girl's death.

This is the third book I have read in the last 6 weeks with the particular plot device upon which this novel hangs, and although the other two books were written by established mystery writers, I like Callow's handling of the plot the best, so kudos to her. I tumbled to it rather quickly but perhaps if it hadn't been for the other two novels, it might have taken me a little longer.

Kate Lange is an interesting character-- while I might sometimes wish she were just a little bit smarter and not quite so naive, she is like most real people, trying to make sense of the world and her life and her job and trying not to screw up too badly.

My biggest gripe against this book is that Callow depicts the cops as completely incompetent. They appear to be clueless in what to do to investigate this case; they don't seem to have any knowledge of how to talk to hookers on the street and the lead detective is so wrapped up in his angst over his broken relationship with Kate that he makes too many obvious errors in trying to resolve the case. Consequently Kate is forced to investigate because the cops just don't seem to know what to do.

My other gripe is that some of Callow's depictions miss the feel of reality-- for instance, her depiction of the life of a hooker seems to be based more on what Callow imagines a hooker's life to be than on any semblance of reality.

However, on the whole I liked this book and look forward to reading more in the series. There is a tinge of romantic suspense in the book, but not so much that it detracts from the overall novel. The setting of Nova Scotia adds just a touch of the exotic to the locale, which is a nice change. If you like Karin Slaughter or Lisa Scottoline, you will probably like this series.

3-0 out of 5 stars Decent debut
thought this book was a decent debut for author Pamela Callow. It was a murder mystery with some legal thriller thrown in to give the reader a interesting story.

At first I really didn't care for the character Kate, she seemed a bit whiny. I know she has gone through a lot of things and she did get the job at the law firm thinking she would get some great jobs, but she is at the bottom of the totum pole so to speak so she should take the cases she gets and like it.

So when this grandmother comes in to talk to her about her granddaughter and how she wants to get custody of the child, Kate sort of just tosses her aside. I really did sound like there was no grounds for a case but as a lawyer she should have at least looked into it, then the girl ends up dead. Kate then gets in trouble and her job is on the line so now she feels bad and needs to find out what happened, but its a little to late for the young girl. Kate does redeem herself in the end but she just wasn't a character I cared much for at the start of the story, and maybe that is how the author wanted it to be.

It is a thriller/mystery but lets not forget that it is published by Mira, which is a branch of of Harliquin so it reads a bit like a woman's book and some men might not like it. Over all I would recommend it to anyone who likes crime dramas, legal thrillers, etc.

5-0 out of 5 stars Riveting
This fast moving thriller combines a bit of the legal genre with a lot of the mystery. The heroine is a character who is endearing because she is flawed enough to be believable. On occasion her ability to survive is a bit over the edge but it all works together to create a fascinating read that is hard to put down. When she is first introduced it is as a fairly newly minted lawyer who has recently broken the relationship with her policeman fiance when another officer unveils Kate's past to her fiance in front of others. His inability to understand why Kate has hidden her past from him is compounded by her own anguish at having the painful past dredged up.Nonetheless, the tension between them remains strong and is an integral part of the story, as is her past.

As first the granddaughter of her client is murdered in a horrid manner, then others are found to have been a well, she is thrust into the middle of the investigation. As a result she learns about body donation to science, how those bodies are used and what can become an ugly side of the business when greed and a lack of integrity drive the principals. The characters are cleanly drawn while the story offers enough twists and turns to keep the reader riveted. Even the ending offers freash surprises.A book worth reading.

3-0 out of 5 stars Jumpy
"Damaged" by Pamela Callow is a suspense thriller.

The book would have provided more suspense with more consistent narration. Because the point of view shifts even within chapters, some information is provided before it is needed, and much information is simply told rather than shown.

The Halifax setting is a good one.The plot of a lawyer digging too deeply into a case has been done before.Kate Lange is a strong and lovely heroine.Should Callow use her again in another book, I will certainly take a look at it.

As crime fiction goes, C+. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A murderingwhoremonger?
'Seduced' by Pamela Britton is humorous historical romance novel. I enjoyed the batter between the two main characters was funny and real. The storyline that Lucien losses a bet and has to wear a dress is very funny. I cried, laughed and over all ended the book satisfied to have enjoyed magnificent story. I would recommend this novel and The Lady Lies by Samantha Saxon.

3-0 out of 5 stars Shrewish heroine
I hate heroines who are shrews and termagants, forever sniping at the hero. And I also get irritated at stories where the hero and heroine constantly bicker - it gets tiresome really quickly. Alas, these are exhibited in abundance in this book, so much so that it got to be too painful to finish it. Elizabeth's conversion from shrew to devoted, loving wife was too jarring and unconvincing. Some of the humor worked well, but the humor didn't make up for the bad qualities of the story. Would not recommend.

5-0 out of 5 stars Kindred souls succomb to the chemistry of fire meets fire!
The setting is Regency London, turn of the 19th century. The heroine is a confident, intelligent beauty, aware of who she is and who she isn't, what she wants and whom she never wants to set eyes on again. The hero is a rogue, rumored to have shot his brother for a dukedom. Maligned from a young age, and cursed to loose all that he loves, he accepts his title of notorious rake.It is rumored to love him is to die.

Elizabeth wants nothing to do with him and tries to keep away.Naturally he is drawn to the dark haired, beautiful outcast, the one woman who is strong enough to publicly distain him.Initially, she's a challenge, something to fill his empty life.Truthfully, he cannot forget the chemistry of their first encounter. He senses a kindred soul, and he couldn't be more correct.

Lucien is the rake we all love to read about and empathize, and Elizabeth is his mirror image, both strong of heart and spirit. She struggles with this alchemy all the way to the altar, and their marriage becomes a scintillating battle.I really enjoyed the bickering because she was always so serious, and he toyed with her thinking he was the grand seducer.Being a woman of enormous pride, she finally submits only when imprisoned by passion and in turn, seduces him.Now Elizabeth must face her passion just as Lucien is taken from her.As strongly as she fought the ties that bound them together, now she must loose everything to save him from his past and himself.

I really enjoyed this story. The strength of this book was the well-written dialogue. The story isn't anything complicated, but it's worth the time to read because the characters are so honest and matched.Instead of the chemistry of opposites attracting, this one is fire meets fire. The book was one I couldn't put down and lingered long after I was finished!Ms. Britton is truly a wonderful writer. Do yourself a favor and become Seduced!

5-0 out of 5 stars An emotional roller coaster -- and just as thrilling
Love it or hate it? I mostly loved it. Yes, there were times that the sex jokes got stale and occasions when the timing was questionable...but they never detracted from the story for me. Moreover, the characterizations and back stories so enchanted me that I couldn't care less about any minor faults. Indeed, this book isn't really about sexual seduction, as some reviewers seem to think. It's about the seduction of the heart -- a vastly different, and more noble, thing altogether.

Lucien is a very complex character, contrary to first impressions. In fact, Elizabeth, once she's around him on a regular basis, quickly begins to see through his masks. Elizabeth is a very strong heroine who has had to hold her head up high throughout her life due to circumstances beyond her control; yet she makes every effort to control their effects on her. Until Lucien unwittingly causes it all to crumble around her. Truly, she is the stronger member of this couple, but she teaches him a great deal about strength of character. For deep down inside, it is only guilt that keeps him from being the marvelous man his tenants adore. How each of them come to see the inner person -- and themselves -- especially Lucien's growth as a person -- is the heart of this book.

The humor runs from bawdy to satirical and caused me to laugh out loud on several occasions. Before the book's end, however, I often had to fight to read the page through tear-blurred eyes. The emotional anguish is on the money, and is the pin on which the whole book turns. It is marvelously done. The last three chapters (not the epilogue) are some of the most heart-wrenching scenes I've ever read; beautifully done.

Perhaps not quite 5 stars, but certainly more than 4... at the end, I didn't care about lack of perfection; I was too caught up in the story, the characters, and the how-on-earth-can-it-possibly-have-a-happy-ending tension. A thoroughly satisfying read!

5-0 out of 5 stars What book did THEY read??
I can't believe that someone would say this book *fizzles*.I honestly read this book because I had to judge it in a contest and I couldn't put it down from the moment I started it.As a matter of fact, I've been dying to review it for weeks but was afraid to tip my hand in saying that I'd loved it.The book made it to the finals of the contest, and a search of this author's web site (because I want to read more of her wonderful books!) revealed that it's won lots of award.Apparently I'm not the only one that was captivated by the tale.

About the book:The heroine was someone I could identify with from practically the first page. She's an outsider and yet instead of moping or getting whiny (like so many heroines), her outlook on life is a kind of stoic acceptance tinged with humor that I really loved. The hero starts out as a stereotypical hero. You know the kind, rake, rogue, blah blah blah. But instead of falling back on same old same old plot devices to excuse the hero's bad behavior, Ms. Britton creates a real and complex character that had me crying for him by the end of the book.

By far, my favorite part of the book was the ending.I was guessing until the last page what would happen.I applaud the author for keeping me on the edge of my seat.

Great work, Ms. Britton!!!I came here to buy *Tempted* and from the reviews of that book, I won't be disappointed either. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Hot Cowboy!
Of all the books in this series, this is the one I was waiting for most. The secret of Mark's paternity finally officially answered! Maybe that's why I felt a little let down by the way this story played out.

I love a strong, sexy cowboy. It's one of the biggest reasons why I decided to review this series. In past books, Mark has always come across as independent and really hot, if a bit confrontational with the Cody family. So I looked forward to really getting to know him. He was definitely sexy in this book, but frequently came across to me as a bit whiny and unwilling to take responsibility for his own life. The truly strong character in this book is our heroine, Nicki. She was absolutely fabulous.

It was Nicki who made the first move to get their relationship started. Admittedly, Mark had tried once in the past, only to allow Nicki's father's threats to stop him from moving forward. And, as their relationship grew, it was Nicki who stood up to her father, not Mark. She was the one willing to take risks, the one willing to open her heart and her life, unconditionally, to Mark. She was smart, sexy, and fun. Thankfully, Mark got to see those qualities in this story, and - though there were times I wanted to smack him upside the head for his foolishness - ultimately, he decided to take a stand.

Though the question of Mark's paternity was a driving factor of this book's plot, it wasn't the primary conflict. Yes, we get our official answer (though, was there really any question?), but we don't get to find out why what happened, happened. Perhaps in a later book?

The real Mark, the strong, sexy, stubborn cowboy I thought he was finally came through in the last part of this book. And I have to admit to loving the climax... it made my heart swell. So, although some things may have frustrated me, the fact was, I was completely invested in the characters - and that says something about the book and the author.

A word to any new readers of this series - this book, of all of them, really doesn't stand alone well. I'd strongly recommend finding the other books in the Codys: First Family of Rodeo series and reading them first.

Overall, if you're looking for a sexy cowboy and a love story that will make your heart sing, and if you like a woman who's as strong as the man she loves then this might be just the book for you.

5-0 out of 5 stars Ironic Indeed
How ironic is that the same Travis/TJ/Trey Labranch that cause so much trouble in Fate, Chances and Misconception would fall in love with a black woman.
I kind of figured from his first appearance in Fate that T.J. was harboring some deep hurt from his past.He was so angry in the other books.I'm glad Ms Starr allowed us to see his gentler much softer side.
He was truly so romantic in this story I had to remind myself that he was previously a monster.
Just goes to show with the love of the right person, change is possible.I thought it was interesting that Teresa read to his about the history of the Tuskegee Airmen. She was able to penetrate his mind and reach his actual spirit.
It brought a tear to my eyes, when Megan looked at him and asked her father if Vicki was upset, because Trey looked like the bad man.She then went on to tell her sister, he's not the bad man the bad man is gone and she had her sister look into his eyes.I was thinking out of the mouths of babe, when her uncle said the same thing.
This was a heart warming story and although it wasn't stuff full of steamy love scenes, you were still able to feel the love between Trey and Teresa.
I truly love this series and definitely recommend this book to others.

5-0 out of 5 stars Ironic
How ironic is it to deeply care about something you once proclaimed to hate the most?Well, just ask Travis Labranch, Jr.Here's his story...

Determined to prevent his cousin from making the worse mistake of her life by marrying someone outside of her race, TJ (Travis) quickly hopped on a plane to his cousin's house. Before he could make it to his destination, TJ crashed his plane while flying through a massive snow storm somewhere in the Smoking Mountains. After being unconscious for an unknown amount of time TJ awakened to an injured body, temporary blindness and no recollection of who he was.The only thing that saved his sanity was the sweet, alluring voice of Teresa, his caretaker, as she read to him each night.During his recovery, Trey (the name Teresa used) and Teresa fell in love and planned on building a life together. But then, Trey began to experience terrible, cruel memories from his racist past that involved his continuous harassment of Teresa's family.

Will Trey be able to maintain a hold on Teresa's love and win over her family by proving that he is now a changed man and he is no longer the bigot that he used to be?

With Ironic Pamela Leigh Starr has written an unthinkable, dramatic conclusion to her Love Found saga. The one person who wrenched so much havoc to various members of the Lewis family, because of his chauvinistic hatred, has now found himself caught up in the rapture of love with an African American woman who just happens to be a Lewis. Now, how ironic is that!As much as I hated Travis' evil, prejudiced ways during the first three novels, I can truly say that he successfully redeemed himself in my eyes and it was easier to see him as a new, likable person (Trey) in Ironic. It is simply amazing what the power of love can do to a person. As a couple, Teresa and Trey compliment each other very well.As Ironic progressed, I witnessed the growth of their friendship and the depth of their love for each other.Overall, I was greatly pleased with how Ms. Starr managed to craft a wonderful romantic ending to such a superb series.Well Done!

In the last book of the Love Found series which entails the saga of the New Orleans bred Lewis clan, Pamela Leigh Starr takes us on a whirlwind journey into the lives of Teresa Lewis and Travis "TJ" Labranch, Jr.

Teresa, on a leave of absence from her job as a nurse, takes refuge at a friend's cabin in the Smoky Mountains. While in the midst of a terrible snowstorm she witnesses a plane crash.Upon investigation she finds a lone passenger who not only is badly injured but unconscious as well. With an inevitable fire about to start Teresa realizes she has minutes to spare or they both may parish. Her closest neighbor also has witnessed the crash and arrives to help in the nick of time.Because of the snowstorm Teresa is unable to call for help, so her only choice is to care for the crash victim. While going through his wallet to determine his identity Teresa discovers that his name is Travis; however, she also finds a business card that merely states "White power, the only power."Fearing the man she has rescued is a racist, and with the thought fresh on her mind, she has no choice but to push it aside because as a nurse she is bound by duty.

When Trey, as she decides to call him because the name fits, regains consciousness he seeks the loving comfort of the voice that soothed him while in deep sleep. The extensive head injury has caused blindness and amnesia, so naturally Teresa's voice, the one that he has fallen in love with, is the only thing he remembers.Being cooped up for an extended period of time, Teresa also finds herself falling in love with Trey. After several weeks and what seemed like an eternity Trey is ecstatic because he is finally able to see the object of his growing attraction. He and Teresa throw caution to the wind and embark on a love affair. But, when the constant flashbacks of Trey's previous life start to unfold and he discovers that the people who he betrayed are members of Teresa's family, he sets out to right every wrong.

Pamela Leigh Starr has written a very poignant tale of romance. The storyline and plot are on point as readers are graced with an awe-inspiring read.Entwined in the pages of IRONIC is a lesson on how race plays a significant part in how people treat each other, but in the end love will conquer all.

2-0 out of 5 stars This could have been *so good*...
Mary Callahan's father, the notorious smuggler Tobias Brown, sends her to spy on scourge of smugglers everywhere (but mostly especially of Tobias himself) Alexander Drummond, Revenue Commander extraodinaire. When our star-crossed lovers first meet they hit it off like... well, like two things that don't hit it off very well at all, like cats and dogs, or oil and water. Mary's father forces to try out for a position as the Marquis' daughter's nanny and she does everything she can to make the him pass her over... However, when he sees how she handles his obnoxious brat of a daughter (by being even more bratty and juvenile herself, of course!) he offers her a huge salary in the hopes that she can tame her. It's an opposites attract story - will the two be able to overcome the huge social gap between them? Especially since Mary refuses to settle for being his mistress, the usual solution to these kinds of situations. Can love truly conquer all?

I really wanted to like this book - First of all, the heroine: Not only is she a commoner, she's one step above a criminal. Her father is a smuggler - and not the aristrocrat-fallen-on-hard-times type, and she herself makes a living as some sort of Astley's type horse girl, which isn't a crime but certainly *far* from respectable. She's smart and independent. She's even feisty, something that usually makes my skin crawl as it's romance-speak for TSTL, but she manages to be feisty - and funny - without making you want her to die a horrible death. Sadly the writing, in particular the annoyingly heavy-handed use of metaphor and simile every other sentence, got in the way of what could have been a rollicking good read. I really hope Britton works on improving her craft because I suspect she has some really good books in her.

5-0 out of 5 stars ONE OF MY FAVORITES :)
I am disappointed at some of the negative reviews here. This book is one of my favorite books. I love all of Pamela Britton's historical romances because she puts so much emotions in them. She reminds me so much of Lisa Kleypas, Julia Quinn, Lorainne Heath, and a little of Judith Mcnaught. (McNaught is great but sometimes there are just too much negative actions in her books. Pamela is similar to McNaught in that she puts tremenduous emotions in her books that you can feel it. I actually think Britton's books are much funner.) Anyway, this book is wonderful. If you love historical romances, please read this book and form an opinion of it yourself!

P.S. I'm was trying to find new historical romances that she has writton but all her new romances are Nascars. I really wish that she would write more historical romances - I've read her last three and they were the best I've read out there!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars A Wonderful Historical Romance Full of Wit and Comedy.
I loved this book. The heroine, Mary, is a genuinely amusing, strong-minded woman who deserves to find true love and acceptance. She meets her match in Alex, a Marquis who is determined to not follow in his lecherous father's footsteps. And yet, he's very tempted to seduce Mary, who he has hired to be his daughter's nurse. The plot takes many fun, unexpected turns and you can tell Pamela Britton really did her research. She also has a great ear for dialogue. If you love historical romances, this is one to try, even if you fear you've read the same plot over and over again. Britton writes very well and knows how to set up and engaging story. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Fine romantic fantasy
Pamela Burford's A CLASS ACT is a fine romantic fantasy. How many of us remember romances that went awry, or perhaps never quite got started, while we were still in high school? In A CLASS ACT, a weeklong high school reunion gives Gabe and Dena the chance to meet again.

Gabe is, as he'd always planned to be, a highly successful partner in his father's law firm. Dena, his high school soulmate, is the janitor's daughter who has become a highly successful entrepreneur. He feels guilty and she's wary because of something that happened on the golf course in the spring of their final year. And what's the role of Andrea, the girl Gabe's parents had wanted him to date, and why do he and she still work together?

All these questions get played out during the dinners, dances, swims, excursions and tours of the reunion. We see that the Top Gossip still has the most information, and that the "hunk" has become a "chunk." We enjoy seeing "an awkward, pimply jock with squinty eyes, thick horn-rimmed glasses, and a black buzz cut" transformed into a startlingly attractive man. And the retired drama teacher, "Ham", still enjoys working behind the scenes.

Barely twenty-four hours after arriving in Broken Bones, Arizona, Eric Santellis discovered a body in his shed. Luckily, he had an alibi: he'd been in prison when the lady had taken her last breath. Then a second corpse turned up and, surprise, surprise, it was a cop. Instead of being blamed for a murder - or two - Eric began helping the lovely Ruth Atkins investigate her husband's death. But the killer could be closer than they realized. And finding him might be their biggest test of faith yet.

What's in a family name?

Eric Santellis has just gotten out of jail and already there are two dead bodies in his shed.Of course, he is instantly a suspect, as the Santellis name is associated with crime.Eric isn't the only suspect, however.Meanwhile, the widow of one of the victims, police officer Ruth Atkins, is determined to find out who murdered her husband.Eric and Ruth will have to work together if they want to catch the murderer. What secrets will be uncovered during their investigation?

THE PRICE OF REDEMPTION follows Eric's story, a character first introduced in PURSUIT OF JUSTICE.While THE PRICE OF REDEMPTION can be read as a stand alone, I felt I was missing pieces about the various relationships that had already been established in the previous book. The number of characters seemed a bit overwhelming; since at least a few of the characters were first introduced in PURSUIT OF JUSTICE, it appears that reading these books in order would help.

The theme of redemption and judgment is prevalent throughout the appropriately named THE PRICE OF REDEMPTION.Ruth's heart has been hardened whereas Eric has suffered from the "sin" of having the last name Santellis. Pamela Tracy offers up some heartfelt lessons about the power of forgiveness. In fact, the emotional and spiritual lessons are far more thought provoking and interesting than the storyline itself.

THE PRICE OF REDEMPTION is a quick read but one worth contemplating the overall themes. The mystery itself is a bit too convoluted and there were some scenes that annoyed me.However, the overall message makes THE PRICE OF REDEMPTION well worth reading.

4-0 out of 5 stars entertaining contemporary romance
New York based public relations specialist Lani Williams of Abernathy and Cornblum travels to the Running L Ranch near Los Molin, California on an assignment that means quite a bonus. However, the recipient of her skills, rancher Chase Cavanaugh thinks she is a reporter, but when he learns that his neighbor's wife hired her to help him deal with the media, he still tells her to leave. She persuades him to at least let her enter his home.

For the two weeks Chase has been the latest victim of media frenzy due to a country western song he recorded. The former rodeo performer knows he is a one hit wonder, but the press seems to think otherwise.Lani takes over handling of the media and makes life easier for the frantic Chase when it comes to reporters, but their attraction to one another makes it even more difficult to keep his blood pressure down.

This entertaining contemporary romance stars two individuals who would be the last pairing anyone would expect, yet Pamela Britton persuades the audience that Lani and Chase make a fine couple. The story line focuses on Chase's aversion to fame that he handles poorly almost as bad as he deals with his desire for Lani.Fans of opposites attract tales will enjoy the big city woman and the rural man although the final compromise seems too easily negotiated.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not Recommended
It was an okay read, this is why I think so:

Official "Ro" Reasoning:

(-0 Stars) The writing was pretty good, good story progression with cohesive dialogue.

(-1 Star) The characters were lacking. The female protagonist, though NOT human, could have had a more emotional connection with the reader. I liked the men, but I found myself actively disliking the women.

(-1 Star) This book was boring, the only reason I didn't put it down was because I was desperate and this was the only thing in my house to read.

(-1 Star) I felt no connection or chemistry between the hero and heroine, I wasn't convinced that they should have ended up together at all.

All in all, not worth my time and money.

Official "Ro" Rating: 2 Stars, Not Recommended

4-0 out of 5 stars Decent
I wouldn't say this was one of my favorite reads but it was decent.I like the fact that the story took place while traveling through space.I totally loved the way the that the Vixens were able to transfer all their sensual energy.I agree with some of the other reviewers, it did move rather slow in some parts but stick it out and you won't regret it.I also enjoyed the way everything came together. The plot was really far fetched but I guess that is expected in a science fiction romance lol. This was the first book that I've read by Pamela Starr.I like her writing style so I'm going to check out some of her other books.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Read
While being an avid reader of the paranormal and sci-fi genre, i found this story to be very intriguing. It has all the right stuff: mystery, romance, and the necessary imagination needed to write a story like this. While reading from this genre, if I can see myself right along side of the heroine, it's a very good book.Ms Starr did that. It's a must read.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Sci-Fi Interacial Romance
This book was very entertaining. I really got drawn into the characters and wished that I was dating J.M. I loved the idea of soulmates, so I was hooked while reading that theme. The characters were amusing and you got the opportunity to really get drawn into their thoughts and feelings. It dragged at some parts, but all in all, it was well-worth the read. Enjoy.

4-0 out of 5 stars Memorable Love Story
This book started out a little slow, but don't put it down....you are missing a memorable love story.I love a good romance and this one left me thinking about it for weeks afterward! The story telling was amazing! ... Read more

Product Description

Can love put out the bitterness that burns inside Clay? Clay Burke burns with bitterness toward his older brother, Derek, who deserted him and their ma when they needed him most—just like Pa did. Derek even tried to steal the silver mine Pa had bequeathed to his children. Then Meagan crosses Clay’s path, stirring feelings of compassion and concern he hasn’t felt since his mother died. Meagan Foster barely remembers her own name. She certainly doesn’t know what happened to her family or why she was found wandering across the Nevada wilderness with severe injuries. Nor is she convinced she wants to remember. Something tells her that knowledge will bring shame and earn the rejection of the kind people who have taken her in. Will turmoil from the past keep Meagan and Clay apart, or will the true treasure God has prepared for them be revealed?
