5-0 out of 5 stars SUPERB ART.
Art is wonderful. Was seeking more pics of dragons. Artists represented were a-one and have great imaginative skills.
Woth every penny, just for the quality of the art.

3-0 out of 5 stars 160 pages for 30 years of coolness?
I jumped when I first saw this, mainly because covers and artwork inserts from the magazines adorned my bedroom and office when I was younger.Larry Elmore was my favorite at the time, but then Todd Lockwood came along and changed everything.

I for one agreed with another reviewer: Not enough sauce.Dragon was a staple of RPG fandom for 30 years, and I felt the collection was a little light.Several of my more favorite artists were scarcely mentioned, and I thought a lot more attention was paid to the more recent 3rd edition art than earlier works from the 80s and 90s.For God's sake, add another hundred pages and give it some meat!

4-0 out of 5 stars Unexpected, and Highly Enjoyable for All Fans of Fantasy Art
I've always been impressed with the high quality of the artwork in my D&D books - especially with the new generation of artists, like Wayne Reynolds and Todd Lockwood. The Art of Dragon Magazine holds to that standard.

A nice retrospective of 30 years of Dragon magazine cover and interior art, The Art of Dragon Magazine includes work from Larry Elmore, Clyde Caldwell, Brom, and many others, chronicling not only how D&D fantasy artwork has ebbed and flowed over the years, but how tastes and interpretations of classic characters have changed. Also, this book is chock-full of art. Neatly separated into broad categories (such as "magic" and "dragons") you'll find artistic interpretations of daring rogues, fiendish liches, gruff dwarves, and many other characters and settings that will fire your imagination. All of the art is well reproduced and clear - not blurry, and the book is put together well.

There are only two items that I feel keep this book from getting a five-star rating: first, it is too brief; while there is a large selection of art, one can't help but feel there are more gems out there (I hope a second collection is in the works!). Second, some of my favorite artists (most notably Todd Lockwood) are not as well-represented as I might have liked. Overall, however, fans of D&D, as well as fantasy art enthusiasts in general (including those who enjoy the annual Spectrum collections) will be pleased to add this to their libraries.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good, but could be better.
While many of the picures within are visually stunning, I felt they left out some of the best artwork in favor of some rather crude ones. All in all I'd say I liked about 30% of the artwork in the book, and I wish the other 70% could have been exchanged for better works I've seen in past issues of Dragon. Maybe there will be a volume 2.

5-0 out of 5 stars Dragon Magazine
I bought this as a gift and my wife was very pleased. She was a avid reader of Dragon magazine and loved the art! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Gadzooks, it's Lara Croft !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Even though they didn't faithfully reproduce Angelina Jolie's lovely face when they produced these graphic novels, they certainly didn't go wrong when they drew her body !! This collection is certainly great eye candy for male readers, and the stories are pretty interesting too. The writing is halfway decent, although a few entries could have used rewriting. All in all, well worth the read for those who like graphic novel adventures, along with an occasional long glance at some beautiful torso shots. Try to pick up this compendium at a reasonable price, though. The 80-120 dollar range is way too much to pay for this. I got mine for 30 dollars plus shipping and (hint hint) it wasn't bought on the amazon.com site.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good price, good comics!
I really love Lara Croft, and here, in Catalonia, they didn't publish the whole collection, only the first twenty comic books, so when I discovered the compendium I wanted it, specially with the price it was at the moment in Amazon.

The graphic content was amazing, and the stories where good. The only three things that I didn't like where:

- The necessity to show Lara Croft again and again with very little clothes on, or taking her clothes off or naked. Yes, ok, she's a myth, an icon, but it got old after twenty pages or so of Miss Croft in too small nikinis that left most of her out than in.
- I didn0t like this need to have Croft falling in love with half the repertoire of males that appered in the comic book. While Chase Carver does make sense because they knoweach other and there are feelings, it dones't makes sense that she falls and so deeply for a monk she has just seen, and also doesn't make much sense herself kissing Kurtis Trent, specally because in the video game was some sort of chemistry, but they never did nothing. I don't know, but the Lara in the video games wasn't so concerned aout dressing herself up in order to seduce the male of turn as she is with that monk.
- And last but not least, the fact that there was a crossover and that the crossover wasn't all in the compendium. I know that there were Witchblade's and Evo's province, bt it would have been nice to have those two also in the compendium so we could get a better sense of the story.

Other than that, superb drawing and nice storytelling. A must have for fans of Miss Croft!

4-0 out of 5 stars Tomb Raider Compendium
I really enjoyed this book. Will probably Read it again some time in the distant future. Would recommend for any true Tomb Raider fan. The size of the book was somewhat difficult to deal with but as long as you support the binding by not just laying it down the book should survive the read. I finished the book and it still looks mostly new. Ultimately, I love the story lines, and most of the artists did a superb job bringing Lara's great character to life.
Oh, and although, for the most part, the story lines weren't in conjunction with the video games, I didn't understand half of what was going on in Angel of Darkness 'till I had read the book's part of the story.

1-0 out of 5 stars Wait for the hardback edition!!!
The content is 5 star worthy, great art, good story telling. However, the binding sucks. Because of the immence thickness of the book the binding cannot support its contents. Thus resulting in the spine cracking in many places and pages coming loose.
Top Cow is releasing The Witchblade Compendium in hardback soon. Hopefully Tomb Raider will follow.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not that bad
This product isn't as bad as the previous review mentions. While the stories are not canon with the games or movies, they do contain all the actions that we know and love about Lara Croft. The graphics are pretty good, and the stories are for both old and new fans of Lara. My biff with this product is that one of the comics in the book is a three-parter, which requires witchblade 60 and Evo 1 to complete. ... Read more

Product Description

This ground-breaking book brings together cutting-edge researchers who study the transformation of practice through the enhancement and transformation of expertise. This is an important moment for such a contribution because expertise is in transition - moving toward collaboration in inter-organizational fields and continuous shaping of transformations. To understand and master this transition, powerful new conceptual tools are needed and are provided here.

The theoretical framework which has shaped these studies is Cultural Historical Activity Theory (CHAT). CHAT analyses how people and organisations learn to do something new, and how both individuals and organisations change. The theoretical and methodological tools used have their origins in the work of Lev Vygotsky and A.N. Leont’ev. In recent years this body of work has aroused significant interest across the social sciences, management and communication studies.

Working as part of an integrated international team, the authors identify specific findings which are of direct interest to the academic community, such as:

    • the analysis of vertical learning between operational and strategic levels within complex organizations;
    • the refinement of notions of identity and subject position within CHAT;
    • the introduction of the concept of ‘labour power’ into CHAT;
    • the development of a method of analysing discourse which theoretically coheres with CHAT and the design of projects.

Activity Theory in Practice will be highly useful to practitioners, researchers, students and policy-makers who are interested in conceptual and empirical issues in all aspects of ‘activity-based’ research.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Story and Art
Judging from all the hoopla going on over at DC Comics Bruce (Batman) Wayne is coming back into the fold from somewhere around 1,000,000 BC or thereabouts.Since the events of Final Crisis, Bruce has been tossed into the past, which is interesting to think that none of the superheroes capable of time traveling could find him or would think of that.Of course, the world is a big place and every second in time makes it that much bigger because folks tend to stay in motion.

However, during the time that Bruce has been gone, Dick Grayson has made quite the name for himself as Batman.He's brought a different kind of Batman to the suit and to Gotham, and even turned into a father figure of sorts for Damian, Bruce's blood son by Talia al-Ghul.

I've really enjoyed Dick as Batman.He didn't just go through the motions.Everything he did was well thought out, and the artists were definitely able to do more with Batman acrobatically.

Tony Daniel scripted and drew issue 697, and finished up the arc he's been doing tracking Black Mask.There aren't really any surprises about who the man under the mask was, but Daniel does a great job developing his story plot wise as well as artistically.

This issue kicks butt from the first page to the last, so for everyone who's been waiting for the big showdown, folks, this issue has got it going on.I loved the tense moment in the beginning with Fright and Black Mask, but the two-page splash showing Batman and company laying into the bad guys is awesome.I spent some serious time just figuring out who was on the page, and the biggest surprise was Ragman.It makes sense, but I just didn't see that one coming.

Instead of playing with the mob scene, though that would have been a blast, Daniel moves the story off into Batman's solitary pursuit of Black Mask and all the people he has to go through to get that one-on-one scene.The art totally rocks, stylistic yet stripped down to the fist-in-your-face action.

The one-page scene of Batman battling Black Mask with flames roiling all around them looks amazing.The inker and colorist did fabulous jobs on the finished art.

The conversations with Gordon and with Catwoman at the end of the issue are handled well, and I look forward to seeing what Catgirl is going to bring to the mix.Can't say that I really care for the costume either, but it is strikingly different.

This issue really sets up Batman's return in some ways, but I have to wonder what's going to happen to Dick.Are we going to see a return of the Nightwing comic?Or does DC have other plans in store for Dick Grayson?That's the character's fate I'm most interested in at this time.
