Product Description
In B2B, it’s not a matter of winning or losing—it’s getting into the game that matters.

Companies on the Internet fast track are buzzing about the unquestionable potential of B2B e-commerce. And why not? Reliable estimates suggest that trillions of dollars will be transacted over the Web in the next few years—and the bulk of that will occur in the business-to-business space. For all of the discussion, however, this vast frontier of Internet commerce is still unexplored by most companies with the potential to profit. They simply don’t know how to move beyond the hype to get started.

B2B provides the first definitive blueprint for creating a profitable business-to-business Web strategy. It describes phenomenal B2B success strategies such as those used by VerticalNet, Travelocity, and Cisco, and details smaller operations moving into the B2B market to illustrate how any company can navigate this space.

Michael Cunningham, a leading expert in B2B strategy and technology, breaks this previously cryptic topic down into actionable steps. B2B, Cunningham explains, is as old as business itself—what is new is the speed at which new and more efficient business connections and services can be made. He describes specific ways B2B cuts transaction expenses, aggregates buying power, and exploits the efficiencies of single and specialized markets.

Not to be missed, B2B is the first book to provide a how-to game plan for succeeding at the greatest opportunity yet in online business.

"B2B is the first and most comprehensive account of the electronic B2B revolution. Michael Cunningham has separated the substance from the hype and provided the reader with a pragmatic approach to crafting a winning E-commerce strategy. Essential reading for today's leaders!"—Christopher H. Greendale, Senior Partner, Internet Capital Group

"If you are a business executive looking for a clear, detailed explanation of the technologies used in Business-to-Business E-commerce applications, as well as an insightful review of the opportunities and market dynamics driving the digital economy, this is the book for you."—Tom Willmott, CEO, Aberdeen Group ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Thorough and useful information
Michael J. Cunningham, founder and CEO of the Harvard Computing Group, has provided strategies and best practices to launch a business-to-business E-Commerce solution for your organization.Financial transfers, online exchanges, auctions, delivery of products and services, supply-chain activities and integrated business networks are all examples of B2B e-commerce.Business-to-business E-commerce is a rapidly growing market. The author guides you through the process from transforming an intranet into an extranet, using portals anddigital procurement systems, finding partners, selecting applications and software and finally designing architecture and infrastructure for a B2B business. He has also included a list of best practices used by successful B2B E-commerce companies.

5-0 out of 5 stars Update on the first edition
The revised and updated version of B2B (paperback edition) reflects the changes in the market since the first version was published. As the author of the book, I would like to thank both the input from the press, editors, industry analysts and users of B2B technologies for their experiences and knowledge to keep this title current. I hope that others still find this a useful blueprint for the development and delivery of their stategies.

5-0 out of 5 stars B2B - Bible.
Charles Stevens, this is possibly the best B2B book I have ever read. Cunningham provides a clear-cut approach to B2B business. He clearly defines differences and avoids excessive jargon making this book ideal for the experiences business professional or anyone new to the field. It was key in developing the fundamentals and our approaches of our own corporate B2B plan. As sacrilegious as it may be this book has been our B2B Bible. 75% of business - to - business transactions for computers, electronics, and storage are done online. There is a need to develop B2B commerce, improving systems and methods are crucial. People and corporations are hesitant about investing in the Internet because of the current tension in the ecommerce market highlighted by the media. Let it be understood that the failings of high-profile corporations should not be a reflection on the B2B market. Even considering this media-driven pseudo-bear market the estimated revenue from B2B business for 2004 exceeds 3 trillion dollars. Pick up this book, at the very least flip through it at the bookstore (and take notes).

5-0 out of 5 stars B2B: It's about creating value
Many organizations today are focused on the bad news in the B2B markets. Failing exchanges, dot com crashes and vendor and consulting layoffs. In my experience, B2B is and will be a potent weapon the the development and optimization of business processes and technology to support new and better ways of conducting business.Collaborative technologies, widespread affordable communication and faster to implement solutions will allow winning firms to take the lead in this segment of the market. While some start-ups have failed, most are because they were not adding enough value to their clients and partners in the first place. B2B technology, tools and platforms are providing the opportunity for organizations to improve and optimize their position in the market. There are good examples of start-ups, existing businesses and others moving to leverage the Internet sprinkled throughout this book. Winning strategies are built by companies following good business practices and being innnovative in their approach to the market. This book was obviously created as a blueprint for individuals and organizations that are looking for a path through this maze. The examples are based on strategies that have worked and produced excellent results for the firm's using them.Like all technologies and strategies there are winners and losers. Emulating winners is still the best way that we know to reduce risk at the early stages in the marketplace. This book helps others achieve this goal, by providing guidance on the good, bad and the ugly of this complex subject. An powerful and comprehensive read.

5-0 out of 5 stars An Informative Guide to B2B
I was extremely pleased with this informative book.Cunningham clearly explained the ins and outs of B2B in a clear and thourough fashion, making this book a great guide as to how to improve B2B strategy most effectively. It was a superb introduction to B2B strategy, as Cunningham was able to address the many issues associated with B2B and instruct on the best ways to use B2B to the advantage of your business.A comprehensible guide to understanding the newest revolution in international commerce.Great as an introduction for those new to B2B, as well as a guide for experienced business professionals looking for a tool to enhance their commerce. ... Product Description
From e-commerce expert Michael Cunningham-an invitation to join the greatest period of partnership in business history.

Partnerships are the lifeblood of e-commerce.

But most businesses haven't a clue how to begin setting up innovative alliances such as co-opetition arrangements, affiliate programs, web distribution, event marketing, and websourcing. Help has arrived. Partners.com shows businesses how to forge leading-edge Internet partnerships fast-with competitors, customers, employees, and other businesses. From Amazon's consumer affiliate program to General Motors' sophisticated online distribution model, Cunningham demonstrates how relationships that would have taken years to develop prior to the Internet are now taking days or even hours.

Partners.com pulls back the curtain to reveal the specifics of these new and better ways of doing business. It presents a clear picture of companies, such as eBay, Altra, GoFish, Egghead, VerticalNet, and Yahoo, that are utilizing technology-driven partnerships. As businesses focus on finding profitable strategies, partnerships will not be just one option, but rather the new weapon of choice for succeeding in e-commerce.Amazon.com Review
Michael Cunningham believes online alliances are one of the most effective tools for developing the power and leverage needed to prosper in today's business world. An avid practitioner of such arrangements in his ownHarvard Computing Group consulting firm, Cunningham presents a strongargument for these affiliations, along with a comprehensive guide to theircreation in Partners.com. "Today, it is no longer possible for firmsto do it all alone," he writes. "Whether it is hardware for a computersystem, a hosting service to provide e-commerce capabilities, or adistribution partner that will sell and service products, partners areessential." Showing precisely why these associations are particularlypotent in areas like sales, finance, and distribution, Cunningham detailsthe steps involved in their formation and implementation, beginning with thepartnership he considers most essential: the one that must be forgedbetween organizations and their employees before any of these others caneven hope to succeed. Drawing upon winning coalitions created by B2B andB2C endeavors such as eBay, GoFish.com and Convistint, Cunningham thendelves into everything from the technology involved to the contractsrequired. The result is a thorough examination aimed at those serious aboutfinding innovative ways to improve their operations. --HowardRothman ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A REAL WORLD GUIDE TO PARTNERSHIPS
Complex topics such as partnerships tend to be covered in a very fragmented manner. Partners.com does not have this problem. Cunningham ably deals with the people, process, technology and market issues that forge partnerships, but also how to manage, measure and change them.Rarely are these areas covered in sufficient detail, but here there is a roadmap with milestones and strategies that are working in the marketplace. Partners.com does for partnerships what Patti Seybold's Customers.com did for customer relationships. A classic!

5-0 out of 5 stars Don't be fooled by the .com in the title- this is for all
This book is a prize! For those that are looking for the details behind partnerships the information here is not only relevant, but very comprehensive. The mixture of technology, strategy and culture required to pull of good partnerships is difficult for organizations trying to make it happen. Cunningham provides not only a great roadmap, but illustrated with real world examples of what has and has not worked. Do not be fooled by the .com in the title, this book is targeted at all businesses. I particularly liked the sections on self-service Partnerships and the "most important partners, your staff". A practical piece with great strategic insight. Organizations will be able to use this to hone their competitiveness, internal and external consultants will buy to emulate all that has been learned on this topic. ... Read more

In the predawn hours an unidentified man is found in the lavish pool of the Beverly Glen Hotel-not a mark on the body. A few hours later a guest is murdered. 4-0 out of 5 stars Of course
The book is outdated... but it is a great book, one of the best! The characters are spot on. This was the first Japanese language slang book i bought back in 1997, when I first started studying Japanese language. The only real knock (and the reason I gave it four stars) is that the whole thing is in romaji. I really hate romaji most days, because it makes me pronounce the word wrong if I'm not careful - watch out for words with "a" in them. The book needs to be updated, as far as including kanji/furigana/hirigana -- but that's about it. The illustrations are great as well, they catch the avarice and sheisty-ness that people living in a country obsessed with the concepts of tatemae/honne/mie know so well. The ending of this book is all too true! This is exactly how it works... again, one of the best books of the genre.

1-0 out of 5 stars ugh
well this one is not one I'm fond of.. i only read it for like 30 minutes.. i think that perhaps a 13 year old boy might be interested in this book but not me.. i really don't think i want to speak nihongo in such a tacky manner.. which is weird because i swear like a sailor in english.. i think i want to have a bit more class than that when i speak japanese.. it might be mildly entertaining to read on an airplane..

all and all its awful.. i bought it for 3$ and ended up giving it to a library..

1-0 out of 5 stars Pure garbage
I assumed that Zakennayo was a guide on Japanese slang, but I was wrong. If you want to learn obscure (and often outdated) Japanese slang for various lewd sex acts, read this book. However, if you're expecting any real discussion of slang that could help your interaction with real people, look elsewhere.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fuzakenaide kure yo
I don't own this book so I can't really comment on it but I'd like to comment on one of the reviews below. "Zakennayo" is very much a real phrase known to anyone who has studied basic Japanese. It's a contraction of the phrase "Fuzakeru na yo" which means something along the lines of "Don't mess with me". If you are Japanese you most certainly have heard it by the age of 5.

4-0 out of 5 stars Be careful! It's very funny, but outdated.
It is a funny collection of stories about some foreigners in Japan, Kenny is an American English Teacher, Nigel is a British news writer, and Sharon is an Australian hostess. In Japan, they are simply gaijin. Taro is a Japanese-American who is gaijin as well, but he doesn't look like the others, so he is never called gaijin. I have lived in Japan for about 3 years, and I can say that there are many similar stories that happen in Japan every day. I have read this book twice, and these stories made me laugh too much.
However, many of the terms used in this book are outdated and the dialect used is "adequate" only in Tokyo, and truly obscene.
A Japanese friend who is from Hokkaido and lives in Nagoya doesn't understand some of the words used in this book.
As I have said, this book actually doesn't improve your vocabulary, unless you want to be a Yakuza in Tokyo, but as other reviewer said maybe it encourage yourself to learn more Japanese because it presents many truly stories that happen even today.
They are 12 stories:
-Alien Invaders.
-The ABC's of Japanese.
-Street Jive.
-Waiting at Hachiko.
-Talking about people.
-The gay life.
-Hookers and Gangsters.
-Disco City.
-Foreign Drinking Holes.
-After Hours.
-Romance and Low life.
-Talking about Sex.

The dialogues are presented first in Romaji, followed by their English translations, and there is a vocabulary list at the end of each story. I gave it 4 stars because I consider it much better than "Japanese Street Slang", both are outdated, but "Zakennayo" is much more humorous and easier to read.

A moving, funny memoir of a wildly unorthodox Bronx childhood in the 1950's--the story of a girl who starts out fatherless, is orphaned at 8, is raised by two extremely odd strangers who happen to be her uncles, and slowly accumulates for herself a strong and--no matter how eccentric--deeply loving family. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Engaging memoir of an unexpected child and her unusual family
Poignant and unforgettable, this memoir of a valiant little girl who experiences the death of her eccentric and dearly loved mother, settles in the heart.
Seemingly utterly alone when her mother dies, Lily becomes the recipient of her two bachelor uncles' bewildered support and love, later joined by her equally disconcerting grandmother. The uncles put their lives on hold, move in with Lily, and guided only by love, succeed in surrounding her with the stability, ballast and emotional warmth that enable a precocious intelligent little girl to navigate the complicated byways that lead her into adulthood.
Along with an irreverent smart painfully honest look at the pitfalls of childhood, tears and laughter meet and mingle as the author not only explores her own past, but the past of a vanished Bronx neighborhood.
This memoir is sad, funny and deeply memorable. A celebration of imagination, independence, and the power of family and love, it is an unusual and very worthwhile read. I loved it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Memoir of Growing Up in a Loving, Non-traditional Family
This is a truly remarkable memoir.I hated to put it down.

It is about a young girl growing up in the Bronx in the 1950's.Her mother has left her with her two uncles, both non-traditional and eccentric. She spends most of her childhood with them. When she is 15 her mother dies and her grandmother moves in with them. Her grandmother, too, is not the typical, doting type. She actually enjoys asking Lily to wait on her.

The author's memories of her youth are very vivid.Having grown up in a similar borough of New York City at about the same time, I would say they are quite accurate.

This memoir is mostly about what comprises a real family. For the author it is love and a sense of belonging. She examines this in a humorous manner though the reader never forgets the serious message underlying the laughs.

I have just ordered two of her other books and can't wait to read them!

1-0 out of 5 stars A flop
I found myself struggling to finish this book. I almost gave up several times. The first several pages were quite good then it looses steam.

4-0 out of 5 stars Two Unlces and a Girl
Very well written. I felt I had met these people. The writer's words flow smoothly, and I had to slow myself down or the book would have ended too soon. Some of things very young Lily and friend did were hair-raising (in a dark park, cavorting with perverts). What I liked best about this book were her uncles, particularly Uncle Gabe. In fact, I have now purchased Laura Cunningham's book "A Place in the Country" so I can read more about her uncles. I enjoy memiors that deal with unconventional families that provide a nurturing environment and a great deal of love, and this book is that sort of memior.

5-0 out of 5 stars I loved this book!
I cannot wait to read more of her work.I loved this book!I loved her writing. This is a must read! ... Read more
