5-0 out of 5 stars excelente obra para iniciar a Cortázar
Bestiario

Product Description
This, Cortázar’s great political novel, focuses on the political condition of Latin America. It is a controversial blend of his aesthetic searches and his interest in the revolutionary movements of those times. This manual for the child Manuel is a sort of collage of press clippings, and among other things it reveals torture techniques used by U.S. soldiers in the Far East and juxtaposes them to similar tortures suffered by Latin American political prisoners. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars truly jarring stories
For this tiny volume of stories, I feel most of all a frequent hunger to reread. This collection provides a fine introduction to Cortazar's writing, for those who do not want to dive into Hopscotch or The Blow-Up without evidence of the author's skill to turn tales. There are two stories in this volume that I utterly love. The one presents a rather twisted world of the late high school or early university years. Two brave students seek their teachers after hours and gain access to a nearly diabolical cabal. The characters uneasily force reactions to the curious, new circumstances. The other story, hauntingly memorable for me, I would rank among my favorite short stories. The violence of street gangs and political malcontents overlaps with the domestic life of a family attempting to nurse one of its own out of a coma. The boundary shared by the private and political in these stories is subtly and subversively sketched. The importance of some stability and justice in both realms, despite the incursions of the irrational and unjust, Cortazar communicates thoughtfully within stories that do not for a second wink disingenuosly or evoke the repugnance that some more abrasively political fictions and less gloriously delightful might.

5-0 out of 5 stars A psychedelic trip through frighteningly probable,
each story in this book leaves your head spinning, forces you to put down the book and think

In the Don't blame anyone, the simple act of putting on a sweater becomes the ultimate nightmare, tension rising to an impossible level and releasing, "12 floors down"... This book is short, but on shouldn't rush reading through. Instead, one should sit still for a minute (or hour - or a day, for that matter) and think... Unreasonable Hours is a wonderfully eary description of 'it can happen to you' ... Read more

Product Description
The essays gathered here address the Argentine writer Julio Cortázar's oeuvre from a variety of critical positions and focus on several of his multifarious writings: poems, short stories, novels, and miscellanea. The intention has been to provide the space for a reappraisal of Cortázar that will question received notions and assumptions regarding his works, and hence pave the way for an overarching revision of his production and his place in Latin American letters. Although significantly different in their theoretical approach, style, and their point of insertion in Cortázar's oeuvre, the essays collectively manage to configure a Cortázar whose contours will both surprise and enlighten the reader. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars El Superbo!!
Another outstanding collection from Cortazar! He is on the money a number of times in this collection."Graffiti" is possibly the best short story I have ever read and worth the price of the book by itself. So anonymous and yet so painfully personal.Brilliant use of second-person narration, a rarity indeed."Glenda," the dark title story, reminds me a bit of FARGO (the movie) set in South or Central America in the 1960s.Horrifying in its lack of emotion, great detail that means nothing outside of the story, striking symbolism in the final paragraph, and one of the great first lines of any short story.Again, worth the price of admission alone.Strong supporting cast of stories, broad in scope, subject, and style. With his peculiar, often odd, plots and characters, it is difficult to read a bunch of his stories at one time--he switches gears too quickly and severely.I consider that a strength.Considering his bold ambitions, he should write many more "clunkers" than he does. When he is on, nobody does it better! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars El mejor ensayo poético que he leído
A MustBuy Book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Muy divertido, para reírse mucho

5-0 out of 5 stars Extraordinaria joya de la literatura humoristica!

Excelente! ... Read more

Product Description
... Read more
