Excerpt: This is the discography of Leonard Cohen, a Canadian singer-songwriter and poet active in music since 1967 until the present. Cohen has released 11 studio albums and 5 live albums during the course of a recording career lasting over 40 years, throughout which he has remained an active poet. All of his releases have been on Columbia Records. The period from the late 1960s to the late 1970s was a prolific one for Cohen, lasting from his acclaimed 1967 debut Songs of Leonard Cohen until Recent Songs (1979); in the decades hence, his output has been more intermittent, including a nine-year hiatus between The Future (1992) and Ten New Songs (2001). His last released studio album was Dear Heather (2004); he released Live in London, from his 2008-2009 world tour, and Live at the Isle of Wight 1970 in 2009. 1083US: Gold 4388UK: SilverGER: Gold Many other cover albums have been recorded by many artists. Although not explicitly released as a single, Cohen's heavily-covered 1984 track "Hallelujah" charted in the United Kingdom in December 2008 at position number 36. This was due to downloads of the track as a result of the publicitly created by Alexandra Burke's cover version, which charted at #1 at the same time, and a campaign to ge...http://booksllc.net/?id=18603900 ... Product Description
Jeffrey Scott Buckley (November 17, 1966 ? May 29, 1997), raised as Scotty Moorhead, was an American singer-songwriter and guitarist. He was the son of Tim Buckley, also a musician. After a decade as guitarist-for-hire in Los Angeles, Buckley gained popularity in the early 1990s by playing cover songs at venues in Manhattan's East Village, such as Sin-é, gradually focusing more on his own material. After rebuffing much interest from record labels and his father's manager Herb Cohen, he signed with Columbia, recruited a band, and recorded what would be his only studio album, Grace. Over the following two years, the band toured widely to promote the album, including concerts in the U.S., Europe, Japan and Australia. In 1996, they stopped touring and in 1997 moved to Memphis, Tennessee, to experiment with new material for a second album, recording many four-track demos and completing his third recording session for his new album with his band, with Tom Verlaine as producer. While awaiting the arrival of his band from New York, he drowned during an evening swim in the Wolf River. His body was found on June 4, 1997. ... Read more

Chapters: Nightcrawler. Source: Wikipedia. Pages: 61. Not illustrated. Free updates online. Purchase includes a free trial membership in the publisher's book club where you can select from more than a million books without charge. Excerpt: Leonard Norman Cohen, CC, GOQ (heb. , born September 21, 1934) is a Canadian singer-songwriter, musician, poet and novelist. Cohen published his first book of poetry in Montreal in 1956 and his first novel in 1963. His work often deals with the exploration of religion, isolation, sexuality and interpersonal relationships. Famously reclusive, having once spent several years in a Zen Buddhist monastery, and possessing a persona frequently associated with mystique, he is extremely well-regarded by critics for his literary accomplishments, for the richness of his lyrics, and for producing an output of work of high artistic quality over a five-decade career. Musically, Cohen's earliest songs (many of which appeared on the 1967 album, Songs of Leonard Cohen) were rooted in European folk music. In the 1970s, his material encompassed pop, cabaret and world music. Since the 1980s, his high baritone voice has evolved into lower registers (bass baritone and bass), with accompaniment from a wide variety of instruments and female backup singers. Over 2,000 renditions of Cohen's songs have been recorded. Cohen has been inducted into both the Canadian Music Hall of Fame and the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame and is also a Companion of the Order of Canada, the nation's highest civilian honour. While giving the speech at Cohen's induction into the American Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on March 10, 2008, Lou Reed described Cohen as belonging to the "highest and most influential echelon of songwriters." Cohen was born in 1934 in Westmount, Montreal, Quebec, into a middle-class Jewish family. His mother, of Lithuanian Jewish ancestry, emigrated from Lithuania while his great-grandfather emigrated from Pola...More: http://booksllc.net/?id=19965375 ... Read more
