Christelow offers more animals who bamboozle slow-witted innocents in this rib-tickling take on The Three Little Pigs. Canine detective Phineas T. Doggedly asserts, "There's only one no-good rascal in this town ... the Big Bad Wolf!" So when "a big gust of wind Hufffs and Pufffs," he sets out to round up the usual suspect, who's nowhere to be found. The fact that an odd-looking sheep named Esmerelda happens to be strolling by every time disaster strikes seems odd to the sleuth, but, he says, "I just can't quite put my paw on what it is." Young readers will likely spy the big gray nose sticking out of Esmerelda's white wool long before Phineas does, and will follow the action with relish. Comic-book-style panels alternate with full-bleed spreads as Doggedly's midnight stake-outs fail to produce results. When he finally nabs the wolf, the scoundrel spends a couple of nights in jail before he's back to his usual tricks. My Son Loves it
The Five Little Monkeys books are classics. My wife and I bought four of them and our boy and he loves them. In this edition, the five little monkeys get ready for bed. They of course decide to start jumping on the bed. They obviously don't learn as one after another falls off and bumps their heads. Sometimes I add my own words just for humor. It's good for a young child who is learning to read and the artwork is well done. I highly recommend this book.

Classic rhyme
Most people know the rhyme about monkeys jumping on the bed, right?

Boy, those monkeys never learn, do they? Love the punchline at the end, where Mama jumps on the bed :)

No need for board book
This book is kind of cute but it's not great.There is definitely no need for it to be a board book because it doesn't hold the attention of my infant.My 2-yr-old liked it but she was ready for page books by that time.

Great book
I bought this book for my niece who loves the song about the monkeys jumping on the bed. It sounds like she likes the book as much as she likes the song! The book is extra large so it isn't practical for taking on trips but a fun book to read at home.

The first is still the best.

This is where it all began, the first Five Little Monkeys book, and while I've never been a fan of the nursery-rhyme retelling books in this series, I have to admit this is actually my favorite of the lot, maybe because I sang this rhyme to my kid all the time when she was an infant.
