The pinnacle of an extraordinary body of work
I have by now read or heard or seen everything Deepak Chopra has produced. I came back to this program having gone through his most recent works: How to Know God (incl. excellent DVD version), Book of Secrets, Life After Death and Buddha, Story of Enlightenment. All amazing and informative and inspiring. However, I still had some basic roadblocks even these works (plus intensive exposure to Eckhart Tolle and others) weren't reaching. So after alll that, I picked up a two-cassette version of The Higher Self in a used book store and found seemingly a whole new take. Unfortunately, this material doesn't seem to exist in book form, but I was delighted to find this 7-disc version which expanded explicitly on the cassette abridgement and has been blowing my mind for several months. Deepak encapsulates a lot of the material he was teaching in the early 90s (when this was recorded), but it is all about spiritual, mental and emotional transcendence, with only passing references to Ayurveda (which I've always found diluted the primary teaching).In this work he expands your concept of the self and the universe and then takes you though the process of how we create our personal and cultural personnae -- and how to transcend those to be in touch with your soul/higher self.
I will say there was one area that I wanted expanded further still and that was his references to the "seeds of memory and desire." I found a complete explanation of this in another program from the period, an abridged version of his Journey to the Boundless weekend workshops, also available on Amazon.

The workshop goes heavily into Ayurveda, but the first disc and a half complete and complement the discussion begun in the Higher Self program.

Actually, I attended a Journey to the Boundless workshop in the mid-90s having become a fan of Chopra's from his early PBS pledge-break programs. Ironically, I'd been lamenting recently that I wished I'd had access to the material in the Higher Self back then only to find I'd sat through a lot of it. So obviously, I wasn't ready to receive the value from it I am now.

This is an amazing tool, more explicit than almost anything now available, including Chopra's own body of recent work. If you've stumbled upon this out of curiosity, I say Go for it! You won't be sorry!

Secrets for deeper spiritual understanding
Deepak Chopra discusses several secrets to deeper spiritual understanding:

1. The world is in you: Unity / higher power permeates the universe and so is already a part of you.

2. Unity can be reached through several different paths, e.g., seeking knowledge or devotion - so, pick one that you're naturally good at.

3. Peel away interactions from your life that you realize are untrustworthy.

4. Cells in your body die and new ones are created regularly. The body of baby, kid, adult and old man are different although they refer to the same person. The body that is left after death is different from the person.

5. Avoid dwelling on the past or worrying about the future - become more aware of the now.

Free Your Mind!Read Darkness
Shaahin's book Darkness, rocks the foundations of many inherited beliefs that are not our own, but have been acquired though the "to get along, go along" system of society, family and peers. It made me take a strong in-depth look and what MY beliefs really are, where they came from and to then question their validity and eliminate the dogma.

No doubt many may find some of the ideas in Shaahin's book hard to accept or perhaps even offensive.To me that was enlightening and the suggested exercises - the ones I did do, were very powerful and transforming.

Read it to the end, take what works for you and truly questions your objections if and when they arise, because these parts are where you might need to question your current beliefs and where you may find your greatest transformations.

Darkness is an integral part of our reality and one that has erroneously been associated with fear.In the Tetzkatlipoka tradition, darkness is revered as a great healer, and represents safety, and a place of deep power.After reading this book darkness is a positive and transformative force in my life.

An excellent book
This is an excellent book, overall. Author Shaahin Cheyene blends his own life experiences with wisdom offered to him from Aztec shaman Ehekateotl distilled into a series of practical ideas the reader can adapt and apply in everyday life. I found several of his ideas helpful personally, though I was bothered by his mention of the concept that childbirth is somehow inherently "violent." This belief has been virulently promoted by the media for over a century to remove birth from the realm of natural, normal experience, and into the control of doctors and hospitals-- the "experts." This parallels the move of medicine from the hands of herbalists and other traditional practitioners into the pockets of pharmaceutical corporations, and, for that matter, the removal of spirituality from true experience to religious dogma. I'm surprised that someone with such an awareness of the unseen, natural world would fall for the cliche TV image of frightening, violent childbirth. This is my only complaint, though, on a topic dear to my heart. Darkness will offer the reader ample perspective and food for thought, as well as methods for putting desired change into practice.

Full of wisdom and spirituality
A surprisingly broad read, Darkness offers great insight into life as experienced by the author. Recommended if you enjoy Alan Watts Zen, spirituality, self help, and similar books.

Deepak Chopra presents classic poems from Rumi, Hafiz, Kabir, Mirabai and Rabindranath Tagore to explore immortal love in devotional poetry. These poems are filled with love and longing for the divine. I was especially happy to find poems by the Indian princess Mirabai and always love reading Rumi's thoughts.

What is especially beautiful is that I can hear Deepak Chopra's voice reading me the poems as I sink into contemplation. Through reading this book of poems you can discover why a love for God is a much more lasting ecstasy.

I especially love his translation of "Distant Words" by Rabindranath Tagore where the moon sends us the love letters of God. It feels as close to the original translation as I can personally remember. Thoughts from poets of the past mingle with the love in Deepak's own soul and this creates a memorable collection of spiritual beauty.

"The Soul in Love" would make a perfect gift for someone you love who has an interest in spirituality and a desire to know how poets of the past have explored the light radiating from their hearts. This is truly a spiritual treasure!

The Soul in Love is a lovely journey... passionate in its offerings of how our souls are stirred by the words of Rumi, Hafiz, Kabir, Mirabai and Tagore. I was especially touched by the words of Tagore. In Distant Words Tagore inspires us with the morning dew expressed in these few words-

"You send me love letters in the moon," The night said to the sun. "And I leave you my answer As tears upon the grass."

From Skeptic to Believer
I have seen and heard of Dr Chopra for years and quite frankly I thought he was a bit of a charlatan. I based this opinion, not on what I heard or read in his books, tapes, or interviews, but on an innate or natural skepticism that has limited me in many areas of my life. That was until late December of last year when I stumbled on 'How to Know God' in the Pretoria Public Library. At the time I picked up the book I was feeling a bit of a resentment cum disappointment at a situation in my life which failed to materialize the way I wanted it to. So I picked up the book to divert the feelings I was having, but a deeper sense said check it out. I checked it out and began reading it almost immediately. And almost immediately I felt the first of a number of epiphanies that have taken place during each of the five times I have read and savored his book.
I know this man is right on and what his work has done has set me on a much deeper and freer path then I was on prior to picking up the book. It has simplified the world of theology to the point where I no longer have to consult intermediaries and I am 'Good to Go, based on a simple reliance on God rather then a reliance on dogma, theology or pastor. I recommend this book strongly to fellow travelers, as I do his book and audio-book 'The 3rd Jesus'

Powerful tips to help in my quest for success!
I had the pleasure of meeting and doing business with Rand Golletz earlier this year and having read this book, I now find myself going back to review and share nuggets I found powerful and thought provoking with others.Though I took away small nuggets of info that helps from each of the experts, I would definitely say some stood out to my situation more than others.And I think that'll be true to anyone reading this... you'll find that some advice will be more inspirational and encouraging to your own quest for success.

Experience and Wisdom
This is a must-read. As a scholar I found this volume to be both excellent research as well as highly readable. I especially enjoyed the chapters by Dr. Bonnie Howell. Howell is a leader who has excellent insights about spiritual leadership, a new hot topic in the corporate world. All of the chapters are excellent but I would suggest that you buy this volume just to read the chapters by Howell in particular. Would be an excellent reader for a course on leadership or entrepreneurship in a business school.

Worth Having and Worth Reading
This book is a must read. Where else can you get the wisdom and insight of such a distinguished group. In particular the interviews with Dr. Bonnie Howell begin to provide leaders with a new way of thinking about leadership. As a former CEO, Dr. Howell has 23 years of hands on experience and expertise in leading a larger organization. As you read her interviews you will see that her approach was obviously visionary and unique. Her style is one of a conscious and intentional leader and the perspective she shares in this volume is well worth reading. Her contributions along with her co-authors have made this a most valuable volume. Dr. Howell has truly provided some stepping stones to successful leadership and organizations.

Inspirational Interview from some Greats
Stepping Stones to Success was an inspiring read from many different perspectives.Each chapter is an interview with a successful thought leader or entrepreneur.It shares impressive insights from people like Deepak Chopra, Jack Canfield and Denis Waitley.

Not every interview was equal, but 2 really caught my attention.I really enjoyed the chapters with Dr. Mary Donohue and Samy Chong.Both had very different messages and insights, but both were really engaging.

Samy Chong shares his personal story of career development, and ties these insights for how people can live a more purposeful and fulfilled life.I related to Chong's story of entrepreneurship.I really liked how we broke down "the stepping stones to success" as purpose, pain, passion and priorities.It was a very balanced approach, but the inclusion of "pain" and "priorities" provides his approach teeth.

Dr. Mary Donohue's interview was a real treat to read.She is brilliant.She brings forward a model for instituting corporate philanthropy as a tool for leadership development.Dr. Donohue describes her approach as "leading by giving."She brings forward real world examples from companies like Coors, and discusses how organizations use "leading by giving" to build trust, develop their people and maximize results.As a business owner, her message gave me inspiration on how I can grow my business with the power of philanthropy.

this is terribly dangerous
Here is the thing:Chopra believes that we are eternal and that makes us in need of nothing...no God, no reincarnation, no resurrection, no higher consciousness, nothing. Immortality is energy and it is perfect and complete and benign and in need of nothing and it transcends every moment that we will ever have in this body or any other.Quantum Physics cannot have it both ways...if we have eternity at the most basic of levels than how can we add to that and how do Hindu or Christian beliefs add or even play any kind of part in that?Religion is there to provide us with eternity, Chopra says it is a given...we already have it...what more do we need then, dear Chopra?If science has solved the problems of the ages when it comes to religion than why stuff theology on top of it for good measure?Accept your eternal self and go on happily and let us all be satisfied with our unified field selves.There can't be more, it isn't scientific....or theological.Even Einstein said that much, and Lewis said science would reveal God, you reveal God with science, after providing no need for a god at all. Lewis, Chopra, Einstein.Brilliant thinkers, only one is correct.You figure it out.

A Walk-Through Meditation
I purchased this book with no knowledge of its contents other than what what Amazon.com had listed for it.

When I sat down to read it I flipped through the pages in dismay as the everything seemed to be sentences of no-brainer content. It wasn't until later in the book that I discovered that the beginning "no-brainer"-isms were a process in the book to begin a walk-through meditation.

At the "Aaah...I get it...it's a meditation", the book was much more enjoyable, but only when it came to light that it was from that perspective that it should probably be read.

As a walk-through meditation, it was enjoyable and uplifting. The journey was full of positive affirmations.

For me it was a relaxing experience. The content didn't particularly include anything that struck an epiphany of any sort, and certainly the book and its content and messages are directed to a Pagan audience.

Though it may be thought of as this way, this is more like making things up.Do mankind really know much about gravity?How does dance and gravity make for creation?

"The Unified Field is the ground state of all there is. It is the potentiality for space time and space-time events"

How can mankind know that there is an unified field if he is part of it?Even if there is an atman or the Spirit (which I think there are), are Men able to discover the Unfied Field so that "the Spirit and the Unified Field are One.)

The problems go on and on....This book is an exercise in creativity, without having thought through the implications thorougly.

Why would we believe that the Spirit in the Unified Field exist in dimensions that Man even are aware of?

Violates first rules of spirituality--how can the unknown be known, how can the esoteric be taught?It's not through quantum physics.

Though gravity may be thought of as this way, this is Chopra's wishful thinking. Do mankind really know much about gravity is?(Feyman says we can describe gravity but we don't know what it is.) How does dance and gravity make for creation?

"The Unified Field is the ground state of all there is. It is the potentiality for space time and space-time events"

How can mankind know that there is an Unified Field if he is within and part of it? Is it possible to know of a totality (Unified Field) if one is part of it?

Even if there is a Spirit (which I think there is), are Men able to discover the Spirit or the Unfied Field so that, as Chopra says, "the Spirit and the Unified Field are One".That is, if we cannot know what the Unified Field is, and the Vedic sages say that the Spirit can not be known or described, how does Chopra know that the Unified Field and the Spirit are one?

Why would we believe that the Spirit in the Unified Field exist in dimensions that Man even are aware of?That is, if space and time are four dimensions, are there other dimensions still?Why does anyone believe that the Spirit operates in dimensions we are aware of?Only a hundred years ago, scientists thought Newtonian laws explained it all.How soon before quantum mechanics be dethroned?

I don't understand how Chopra can claim to describe It, when It has been described as undescribable by the sages.

The problems go on and on.... This book is an exercise in creativity, without having thought through the implications thorougly.

This kit gives good advice and the artwork on the flashcards is beautiful/pleasing/calming to look at before trying to fall asleep.I have found the CD to be very helpful.The meditation mantra is useful during the day!

I bought this for a gift and it was a huge hit! The cards are really beautifully illustrated and the meditation CD is very very relaxing. The oils smelled very nice and all for the price of the CD. I thought it was a lovely gift and the reciver raved about it! For $17.00 you can't go wrong, worst case, you might just get a good night sleep.

Redundant
This is the 2nd "kit" I've purchased whereby everything but the book and CD are superflous. The information placed on the flash cards could've been included in the book. I'm assuming this is a maketing trick to lower cognitive dissonance when purchasing shlock like this. The oil...no where does the kit tell you what's in the bottle. And forget about the "dream diary"...wasted pages with not enough room for notes, and the same "inspirations" on every page of the journal.

It is insulting to produce material that is clearly...CLEARLY...designed to create barriers for consumers to return goods. You see, once you remove the packaging...there's an open CD...oil...you're stuck with the kit regardless of the contents. You've been warned. ... Read more

Powerful Message
This is the sequel to Deepak Chopra's "Lords of Light".Both are written in the form of a fiction novel, where the story line serves a dual purpose of both conveying a spiritual lesson as well as entertainment.

The story itself revolves around an angel that came to earth in Kosovo, and the workings of the government, the angel herself, a New Age writer and a few other colorful personalities to understand the mission and the message. I found the story to be a bit disjointed, but entertaining.The ending of the book felt rushed after Deepak carefully developed the characters and story line over the preceeding 275 pages or so.

The spiritual message is powerful, and is contained in the text of the story itself, as well as "interludes" that Chopra refers to as the "Angel's Voice".However, like the story itself, this format makes the message a little disjointed.

Taken as a whole, the book is reasonably entertaining and conveys a powerful message reasonably effectively.In that in rated four stars.I felt "Lords of Light" was both better written and more entertaining as a novel, and should probably be read prior to this one to provide some helpful (but not necessary) background on some major characters.

A spiritual sci-fi novel
This is not like the Deepak Chopra books I'm used to. I knew it was fiction, so that wasn't a problem. It was quite a confusing book though, and it is most definitely not a book you can pick up and put down and read the next day with any continuity. There is a lot of time hopping and altered reality and, hence, can be very confusing. However, when I picked it up and read it non-stop, it did have some sense of continuity to it and I enjoyed it after all.

Though deeply spiritual, it would be better listed as a science fiction story. If you expect it to be a sort of spiritual science fiction, then you will read and enjoy it far better. In the final analysis, I enjoyed it enough to borrow a copy of another book in this series - the Lords of Light - from the library.

Life Changing--If youcan see it that way...
It amazes me that I am the only person who decided to write a review after 5 years--all previous reviews are from 2000 and no one has reviewed this book since.I must say that this book came to me at the right time in my life.It has made a profound change in how I look at EVERYTHING.Perhaps timing is the key--it may have been published before most people could really grasp what the message really is (before 9-11, ground zero). I discovered this book in my library and almost gave it away, but upon reading it I found I couldn't put it down.

The truth is, not everyone will get this book because it goes to a place that makes you responsible for your own choices.It's "out there" in ways most people don't want to visit.That's the whole message.Like any review, take it with a grain of salt, read it for your self--no one can really tell you what you will get from it.If you like Deepak, OK, read it.If you like the title, OK read it.It doesn't matter one way or the other--you'll realize the effort will be rewarded one way or the other.If you were drawn to the book to begin with, there's a reason for you to read it....

This is a novel, not like his other books
And I positively disliked it! It is a poorly written 'action' novel interrupted at 4 or 5 places by one page 'voice of theangel' sections which are the only parts that remotely resemble Deepak's previous writings. I magine that the 'novel' part was written by his co-author. I was repelled by this book, and ended up returning it to Amazon. Normally I am a big fan of his and own most of his previous books.

Is this a new direction for Deepak? Is he trying to reach people who read junk novels? Or the 'angel' people?If so this is NOT good enough. Deepak, please stick to what you do best..

Manifesting good luck is easy - try it you'll see!
Dr. Chopra is a clever man. His introduction asks you to use the Law of Least Effort and Law of Intention, to pick a card and see how it relates to your life. He took a pink/purple color theme, very popular with people exploring spirituality, and paired it with the God of Good Luck and remover of obstacles, our beloved Lord Ganesh.
I admire Chopra's sense of humor. I can appreciate his perspective to this topic as I have much in common with him. I too am Indian, spiritual, meditate, pray and deliberately create a wonderful future. He is medical doctor, I am a clinical psychologist and angel reader. I can see how his mind thought of this creation.
Some meaningful cards: I celebrate the cosmic dance-I recognize that life is a divine intertwining of masculine and feminine energy and I embrace it.
I am at peace-Even in the midst of chaos, conflict and confusion, I find a place of inner peace.
I recognize and notice meaningful coincidences in my life.-What I dismiss as an ordinary coincidence may be an opening to an extraordinary adventure.
As is an atom, so is the universe-When I recognize and see the whole in every part of the whole, I open up to the magic of the universe.
Each card is rich with meaning. This is a beautiful deck in showing you manifestation is related to your will, thought, attitude and heart intentions/motivations. While using this deck, you feel as if the luck of the universe is going to burst into your life because you have these precious ideas.

In order to manifest good luck, your thinking, attitude, heart and will have to be alignment with these principles as set forth in the deck. I agree with the ideas and how he presents the material. I recommend this deck to fans of Dr.Chopra and deliberate manifestation.
