Product Description

In this riveting novel, beloved international bestselling author Deepak Chopra captures the spellbinding life story of the great and often misunderstood Prophet.

Islam was born in a cradle of tribal turmoil, and the arrival of one God who vanquished hundreds of ancient Arabian gods changed the world forever. God reached down into the life of Muhammad, a settled husband and father, and spoke through him. Muhammad's divine and dangerous task was to convince his people to renounce their ancestral idols and superstitious veneration of multiple gods. From the first encounter, God did not leave Muhammad alone, his life was no longer his own, and with each revelation the creation of a new way of life formed and a religion was born.

Muhammad didn't see himself as the son of God or as one who achieved cosmic enlightenment. His relatives and neighbors didn't part the way when he walked down the parched dirt streets of Mecca. There was no mark of divinity. Orphaned by age six, Muhammad grew up surrounded by dozens of cousins and extended family to become a trusted merchant. Muhammad saw himself as an ordinary man and that is why what happened to him is so extraordinary.

Rooted in historical detail, Muhammad brings the Prophet to life through the eyes of those around him. A Christian hermit mystic foretells a special destiny, a pugnacious Bedouin wet nurse raises him in the desert, and a religious rebel in Mecca secretly takes the young orphan under his spiritual wing. Each voice, each chapter brings Muhammad and the creation of Islam into a new light. The angel Gabriel demands Muhammad to recite, the first convert risks his life to protect his newfound faith, and Muhammad's life is not a myth but an incredible true and surprisingly unknown story of a man and a moment that sparked a worldwide transformation.

3-0 out of 5 stars A new impression of Muhammad
I thought of Muhammad as only a merchant and a warrior before reading Chopra's book. Now I question his sanity and consider him mentally unbalanced. The sort of a person that had illusions of being visited by Gabrael.Muhammad shut himself in a room or in a cave and had visions.Since he was uneducated and could not read or write, I doubt if anyone would take him seriously today. If it wasn't for his marriage to a rich lady, I doubt if any of his spoken thoughts would have been recorded.

5-0 out of 5 stars Well Written
I thoroughly enjoyed this book.It was extremely well written.I am a big Chopra fan.

5-0 out of 5 stars An important and timely book
This is the third book in Deepak Chopra's trilogy that also includes Buddha and Jesus. What makes this series so significant is that it brings the stories to the public in such a way that we can understand and relate to these amazing people and the incredible events that unfolded during their lifetimes. There are big lessons here, and deep insights. It's about our own humanity and the connection that we share.I think that these books are to be treasured - they make us think, and open up discussion. That's always a good thing.

3-0 out of 5 stars Violating the basic rules of Fictional Literary Craft

"Muhammad is a novel, and I didn't write this book to make Muhammad holy. I wrote it to show that holiness was just as confusing, terrifying, and exalting in the seventh century as it would be today." Deepak Chopra

The influence of great fiction treatment of historical figures could be everlasting, an opportunity that Dr. Chopra missed twice. He recently twisted the kaleidoscope and offered a very different Messiah than commonly imagined, in the words of his editorial reviewer Ilene Cooper, violates again the accepted rules of serious literary craft, creating many chapters about mythical, vague or understudied characters. Most of what Chopra relates has no substantial historical validity. Boasting, he said in provoking tones, "I didn't challenge the accepted life of Muhammad as taught for over a thousand years to all devout Muslims. Yet at the same time I couldn't give them only the aspects of their Beloved that are the most attractive... At one point he ordered the execution of Jews who had collaborated with the enemy." All above considered, failing to abide by fictional biography provisions as committed by the profuse Guru writer, was disappointing, even to his fans, here expressed by a 'Jesus' reviewers, "I was waiting for the great wisdom that Deepak possesses to come out ... and it never happened (Disappointed)".

Muslim historical traditions, which Chopra ignored, began developing since Muhammad's death, in between his close circuit, and the supporters of his cousin Ali, that ended up in their split from the Sunni majority. Sira (hagiography narratives) regarding Muhammad, the prophet of Islam, were available in writing from diverse later sources, earliest of which dates a couple of centuries after. In order to evaluate these sources, methodologies were later developed, such as the 'science of hadith' and Isnad (chain of transmitters). The art of biography as practiced in Islam, was first applied to the sira, memories of the life of Muhammad. The earliest surviving Islamic biography is 'Sirat Rasul Allah, written by Ibn Ishaq in the 8th century, but known only from later quotes and rescensions from the following two centuries.

"Hearing Last night's discussion [of the book] on Night-line made me wonder about the motivation behind this book. ..., when you are not able to write a factual document, it is easy to base your plot with Fiction. You say what you really want and deny it as you wish... My initial concern was his lack of knowledge..." Zee, Muslim's comment
--------------------------------------------------------------------
*
Historians and novelists often differ in their approach to the historical novel and its mission. However, both agree that the writer must not mutilate past reality; nor manipulate historical facts to make his novel more appealing or exciting. Those who devote the time and skill necessary to research particular historical figures like Muhammad, or events of the unprecedented rise of Islam, can retrieve the information they need to bring history alive. Biographical reconstructions must always be based upon historical methods by critical analysis of primary and secondary sources for a fictional biography. It comes along with consideration of the historical and cultural milieu in which the character lived. The mastery of story telling of a historical novel, requires the author to skillfully balance the extent of fiction within the relevant historical context, so characters may impress the reader as real. Since Ibn Khaldun introduced the modern method to the study of history, which was considered a new trend in the fourteenth century, is now recognized basic as historiography.

The Life of Muhammad

2-0 out of 5 stars Bankruptcy-inducing fiction in biography of Muhammad

"Upon reading the first few pages, it becomes clear that the first thing Chopra wants his readers to know is that this novel about Muhammad is not an authenticated biography of the Prophet of Islam. It's based on an imagined historical narrative" Arsalan Iftikhar

Useless pile of biographies?
In the middle of confusing analyses of Islamic fundamentalism, Harvey Cox, author of 'The Future of Faith', expressed that he prefers Chopra's fictionalized biography, of imaginary narrative to authenticated biographies, which he describes as, "Useless pile of Muhammad biographies"! Recent serious scholarly attempts to open up a new exploratory path of Islamic history, lead by pioneering Islamic scholars, and a new quest of the historical Muhammad between western experts prove the Harvard professor, is out of touch.

A Quest for the Historical Muhammad:
"The plight of Nasr Abu Zayd, an unassuming Egyptian professor of Arabic, who sat on the encyclopedia of Islam advisory board, illustrates the difficulties facing Muslim scholars trying to reinterpret their tradition."Taha Hussein, an Azhar modernist who post-graduated from elite Sorbonne, was a university professor who devoted himself to the study of pre-Islamic Arabian poetry, concluding that much of that poetic core was fabricated well after Muhammad to lend support to 'Koranic fables'. Mohammed Arkoun, the Algerian professor at the same University of Paris, regrets that most Muslims are unaware that a different conception of the Koran exists within their own historical tradition. A recent example of the Quest of a Historical Muhammad, is by the Iranian journalist and diplomat Ali Dashti, who in his Twenty-Three Years: A Study of the Prophetic Career of Mohammed, 1985, repeatedly took his fellow Muslims to task for not questioning the traditional accounts of Muhammad's life, much of which he called 'myth-making'.

Chopra's "Last Prophet":
Deepak Chopra, born in India and raised as a Hindu in New Delhi eclectic environment, has wrote stories of enlightenment on Buddha and Jesus. Now he writes a fictionalized biography of Muhammad, the last prophet of Islam. Why did he choose to write such fictional account of the prophet's life? Chopra replies that telling his story, through his nineteen hand picked characters, is thought liberating, "Since they have no voice in history, except for the sketchiest of facts, I wanted to give them a voice at last." His project is novel, but the chapters failed to preach his semi fictional characters. Waraqah, his visionary mentor, who had a crucial influence on Muhammad's career, is a disappointment, like many of his characters are vague, like the mysterious hermit named Bashira. Although, there may existed a Nestorian monk, called Buhaira, whom the young Muhammad may have met in Syria, the whole fable is distorted. The meaningless chatter he puts in the mouths of those designated as the Prophet's conversants, reveals his superficial knowledge of any reliable source of what he fictionalized, which does not give informed fiction to the readers.

Bankruptcy-inducing Fiction:
Trying to find a reason of what he rightly describe as bankruptcy-inducing Fiction, Spencer Bailey, religion and spirituality books reviewer, advocates that Chopra's semi-fictionalized biography contradicts perception, in the book introduction that, "Islam has been branded with barbarity in a unique way, in part because, in its zeal to maintain the Prophet's world as well as his word, the customs of antiquity have been preserved into modern times."

Product Description
Fifteen years after his #1 New York Times bestseller, Ageless Body, Timeless Mind, Deepak Chopra revisits "the forgotten miracle"–the body's infinite capacity for change and renewal. You cannot take advantage of this miracle, Chopra says, unless you are willing to completely reinvent your body, transforming it from a material object to a dynamic, flowing process. "Your physical body is a fiction," Chopra contends. Every cell is made up of two invisible ingredients: awareness and energy.

Using Chopra's ten steps to wholeness, you can harness those basic elements to change the distorted energy patterns that are the root cause of aging, infirmity, and disease.

Transformation can't stop with the body, however; it must involve the soul. The soul–seemingly invisible, aloof, and apart from the material world–actually creates the body. Only by going to the level of the soul will you access your full potential, bringing more intelligence, creativity, and awareness into every aspect of your life.

Reinventing the Body, Resurrecting the Soul delivers ten breakthroughs–five for the body, five for the soul–that lead to self-transformation. In clear, accessible terms, Chopra shows us how to commit ourselves to deeper awareness, focus on relationships instead of consumption, embrace every day as a new world, and transcend the obstacles that afflict body and mind.

Deepak Chopra has inspired millions with his profound teachings over the years. His bestselling books have explored the mind/body connection and the power of spirit. With his latest book, he invites you to experience with him the miracles that unfold when we connect the body directly to the awesome mysteries that give life meaning–directly to the soul. When you have completed this journey, after reinventing your body and resurrecting your soul, the ecstasy of true wholeness becomes possible for the very first time.

5-0 out of 5 stars Expanding
Chopra is very deep. He goes beyond philosophy and beyond science to tackle the mysteries of life. He never asks you to accept or reject what he says. He merely hopes to expand your vision to be inclusive of those things you know are truth but are difficult to comprehend or understand. He talks of awareness and discovery or your inner being. I cannot possibly describe it as well as he. So I recommend reading the book. It expanded my viewpoint. This is what knowledge is all about.

Deepak Chopra has the ability to speak to your soul.I love the way he writes and the detail plan to put into action the items he writes about.

Product Description

The New York Times bestselling author of Buddha captures the extraordinary life of Jesus in this surprising, soul-stirring, and page-turning novel. Uncovering the transformational "lost years" that are not recounted in the New Testament, Deepak Chopra has imagined Jesus's path to enlightenment moving from obscurity to revolutionary, from doubt to miracles, and then beyond as the role of the long-awaited Messiah. As a teenager, Jesus has premonitions of his destiny, and by the end, as he arrives to be baptized in the River Jordan, he has accepted his fate, which combines extremes of light and darkness.

With his characteristic ability for imparting profound spiritual insights through the power of storytelling, Deepak Chopra's Jesus portrays the life of Christ as never before, ultimately leading us closer to understanding the nature of God and the soul. As the author shares, "I don't want the Jesus in this book to be worshiped, much less to push him forward as definitive. The events of the tale are pure fiction. But at a deeper level, the Jesus in this book feels real because we've gotten a glimpse into his mind. One flash of insight answers many prayers."

1-0 out of 5 stars Guesswork, pure guesswork
Speaking solely as one who is a Christ follower in the traditional sense, I found this book to be a sophmoric attempt to make sense out of Jesus from the standpoint of one who is not a Christian, and has very little knowledge of the Biblical accounts of His life.I expected this going in.

What prompted me to read the book was a statement I heard Chopra make in an interview in which he said "was it not Christ who said to His followers 'give a man a fish and he will eat for a day, teach a man to fish and he will eat for a lifetime', which of course Christ NEVER said.I guess I wanted to see if he had learned anything while writing the book. After reading it, it is plain that he didn't learn much more in his research.

In short, if you are into fluffy "feel good" pop spirituality as peddled by Oprah and Chopra and Tolle,or if you want to feel good about your lack of belief in traditional Christianity, go ahead and buy it, you won't be disappointed. If you want to know about the One who atoned for your sin, conquered death, and kicked open the gates of Heaven so you could enter, pick up a copy of "More Than a Carpenter" by Josh McDowell or better yet start reading the Gospel of John in the New Testament.

4-0 out of 5 stars very timely topic
This book is well written but too much footnoting.Although written in 1990 the topic is timely. The print is way too small, don't know why it's not standard.

4-0 out of 5 stars strange but enjoyable
This book is a very strange imagining of Jesus's life in the years before he awakened to being the son of god and gathered his apostles. In sharp contrast to Norman Mailer's "In the Name of the Father" or Anne Rice's "Christ the Lord" series, which center around key events in the New Testament, this book is completely detached from recognizable biblical events.

We see Jesus's rescuing a family from a fire, being a lackey to Judas Iscariot, encounter paintings depicting events from his past and future, meeting Satan in a sandstorm, journeying to the top of a snow capped mountain. All unexpected and somewhat bizarre, but intriguing nonetheless. If you have a very open mind about Christ's life, you might enjoy this book.

I listened to this book on audio CD, narrated by the author. As much as I enjoy and respect Deepak Chopra in general, his heavily accented narration is poorly-suited to the material.

5-0 out of 5 stars Jesus Teaches Enlightenment
Deepak Chopra offers sage advice on transforming your life, from a Christian perspective, in his novel "Jesus." While many Christians may not agree with his fictional account of Jesus' lost years before his ministry began, they can reap new insights from the Readers Guide - Jesus and the Path to Enlightenment. He writes that Jesus was the product of transformation and that he wanted others to be transformed also, giving up unloving, violent, selfish and narrow-minded attitudes and offering only love and peace to the world. He describes how all Jesus' teaching was in service of one objective: to find the way back home, to oneness with God. He explains that while Christianity offers prayer as a way to "transcend," it is not so different than the goal of Eastern spiritual traditions which offer meditation. Both quiet the mind and expand it beyond everyday boundaries.

Deepak Chopra's explanation is that Jesus was teaching how to find the source of all God's qualities inside yourself and ultimately to embody them. I personally found this explanation very powerful, as my work in chakra balancing will help one to embody these qualities... which to me, makes it in line with Christ consciousness.

While this book may not be the best "fiction" ever written, it offers an explanation I can grasp of how and why Christianity has failed to bring love and peace to the world. Chopra illustrates Jesus' teachings in a way that bridges a gap between the Christianity that is taught in organized religion and the way to transformation that Jesus offered to the world. Inspirational to say the least!
Becca Chopra, author of The Chakra Diaries

5-0 out of 5 stars Thought provoking...Amazing!!!
I just finished listening to this book.Whether true or not, it would not matter to me as I have had many "A-HA" moments from dealing with difficult relationships to judging others to just feeling like I was walking along. There are deep and profound ideas to ponder to assist us in how we deal with ourselves and others. My thought is that there are many layers to this book which make it readable to many.A definite "eye-opener". ... Read more

Product Description
Every life is a book of secrets, ready to be opened. The secret of perfect love is found there, along with the secrets of healing, compassion, faith, and the most elusive one of all: who we really are. We are still mysteries to ourselves, despite the proximity of these answers, and what we most long to know remains lodged deep inside.

We all want to know how to find a soul mate, what career would be most fulfilling, how to live a life with meaning, and how to teach our children well. We are looking for a personal breakthrough, a turning point, a revelation that brings with it new meaning. The Book of Secrets--a crystalline distillation of insights and wisdom accumulated over the lifetime of one of the great spiritual thinkers of our time--provides an exquisite new tool for achieving just that.

Because answers to the questions at the center of life are counterintuitive, they are often hidden from view, sequestered from our everyday gaze. In his ongoing quest to elevate our experience, bestselling author Deepak Chopra has isolated fifteen secrets that drive the narrative of this inspiring book--and of our lives. From "The World Is in You" and "What You Seek, You Already Are" to "Evil Is Not Your Enemy" and "You Are Truly Free When You Are Not a Person," The Book of Secrets is rich with insights, a priceless treasure that can transport us beyond change to transformation, and from there to a sacred place where we can savor the nectar of enlightenment.

2-0 out of 5 stars It is time to move past Deepak...
Do not get me wrong, I think Deepak is a brilliant writer and a very interesting and spiritual man. But when starting on this book I started to get weary, and my eyes heavy very quickly. Not weary because what he said isnt true, but after 15-20 years of reading his books, along with his friend Wayne, they have made fortunes beyond what writers 20 years ago can even imagine. All the popular new age writers have. Why? They must be under some really serious contracts to keep churning out books like conveyer belts because it used to be a masterpoece took half a lifetime to produce in the old days of pen and paper. Now "masterpieces" are produced 3 times a year! There is always another slant, always another mystery to share with us. Maybe THIS time we will get it! All I can say is, if youve been reading Wayne and Deepak and Tolle and all the gang from the 3 major spiritual publishing houses whose names dont need to be mentioned here you start to see a pattern. The same people are rehashing the same wonderful subjects, but it is time for new people. If you are over 40 years old and you still need to read whatDeepak and Wayne and Carolyn and Louise and God forbid we leave out all the channelers who sware we all create our own reality with no limitations except in the mind...if you havent gotten the message by now, perhaps the message is either a)-constantly given a new costume to sell another years book tour, orb)maybe, the emperor has no clothes. All of them! Maybe we need to start hearing from the old man sitting on a bench we pass by every day in the park and ignore, the bus driver who paints magnificent spiritual paintings and no one sees them. I think weve gotten an overdose of the same people and like the amnufacturers of foods who keep enough salt, sugar and caffeine in them to keep us addicted to junk food, we have all been made SPIRITUAL ADDICTS by the publishing world. When will someone write a book, and regardless whether it sells well or not, then say I I am done. I said all I had to say. Give someone else a turn!" When will that day come? Do any of you feel the same thing, that your eyes start to glaze overafter several pages of anyones book? Is it because our logical mind is so overloaded we have to use other tools besides books to learn? Crystals, sound therapy, one to one mentoring, mystery schools, self hypnosis, getting off the Internet, eating better, getting toxic people out of our lives, getting nourishing ones in,etc....all this requires the right brain much more than the left which does our reading for usfor the most part. How about a world where publishers put limits on how many books in every 5 year period one person could write, and offer scholarships and mentorships to old and young people both, to hear what so many of the unknown, forgotten and left out people have to say? Oh, the revenue stream would suffer. Well...maybe we shouldnt change anything, then. Better buy 2 copies of this book, in case you have a friend that isnt burned out yet, you can give him your extra copy. Here is a thought. You want to buy a book to enhance your spIrituality, buy one with magnificent artwork and no words. Or...take a walk somewhere you cant see anything familiar for an hour. That will touch your soul more than all the text on any book shelf today for the most part.Nuff said. -)

Today I felt a shift. For not just me buta large group, maybe the planet. That like many old texts, the new age is heading for old age. I have a suggestion. Pick your favorite spiritual book and just keep re-reading that for one year or more. Then if you need more Deepak, go ahead. To me, we are at a point wheretoo many books are keeping us from real communion and community with each other. Why is everyone on the Internet trying to find their soul mate instead of trying to find friends to spiritually grow with? Me, I'd give anything for the days of Old Paris when intellectuals were found sipping coffee all day in a cafe and actually exchanging ideas! I think maybe I am just "booked out" for a long while. We need some new faces. And we need people with the sense to say what they have to in one book and go back to work or whatever they did before the publishers got ahold of them and made a circus out of their lives...and perhaps ours. Maybe it is why I have been writing my own book for many years and it never gets finished. I feel like I am offering the public a glass of warm beer in a pub where everyone has been drinking ice cold beer all night and now it is morning and everyone is hung over. Today, everyone has an e-book and a course that will change your life. And if you really want true enlightenment, get the dvd,s and multi-media set also so you can listen in your car as well.In fact, dont even think your own thoughts anymore. Just keep thinking what Deepak and Wayne are thinking until you forget what your own thoughts actually were. Then you can try prozac and sleeping pills so you can balance your brain from all this information overload while all these authors who channel and chide and lecture buy their kids another beachhouse and the band plays on. Seriously, get feng shui aboutthis. Pack up every book you own except your 5 most favorite and donate them to Africa and Indo-China and South America where they havent had the opportunity to read all we have already. Then keep your best 5 and study them all your life. That will be enough if you have the right books. I promise. Send a care package to Haiti full of books. God knows they need them there. We westerners need to follow the advice of Mother Theresa- "We need less talking and more sweeping."

Me...I run groups for people who want to learn how to findthe wisdom inside them already without the help of books. You can reach me at my yahoo email at mince38. I live in South Florida but speak for no profit all over the country. I see an epidemic of both spiritual illiteracy and regurgitation of all spiritual knowledge from taking too much in. You cant eat a whole pizza every night and not get sick and you cant read all the spiritual books they keep churning out for years and not lose your own identity doing it. Can we return to balance again and get off those meds at night and double espressos in the morning? God, I hope so. I'd love to hear all of your thoughts. About this book specifically I can only say that there is nothing Deepak says here that he hasnt said before in a different way. Its enough Deepak. We love you, you are brilliant, but take your milions, retire, and give someone else a chance to speak. You have had more than your fair share. Time to pass the baton, my friend. Tonight was a big shift in consciousness for me, just in sharing this. BTW...an easy justification and rebuttel to this would be "The books will never end because our minds always continue to evolve." Thats fine, but we need some new faces and fresh perspectives. Can you all feel the shift? Its coming...out with the old, in with the new.

4-0 out of 5 stars Whets the Appetite
The book gives an overview of what the author refers to as "15 secrets of spirituality." The secrets are actually a quick overview of various related spiritual philosophies. The book is a great read and whets the appetite for further investigation into the subjects of the book. All your problems won't be answered here but the book is a good starting point for spiritual seekers.

I was surprised. I got this book free for the kindle, I don't think I'd had bought it, but it was free.I am not familiar with Buddha and this book made it easy to understand (for beginners in the topic like myself). The story is very interesting and entertaining. You won't be ready to become a monk after this book but it is a good introduction. This book is for anyone, not just people who are interested in becoming a monk.I read it, enjoyed it, that is it, I am not becoming a buddhist, it is not for me, just so you know.

4-0 out of 5 stars Engaging imagining of Buddha
This book is an accessible imagining of the life of Buddha, in the way Anne Rice's "Christ the Lord" series is an accessible imagining of the life of Jesus.

This is not heavy-duty buddism, it's more vacation reading, and in fact I enjoyed it on vacation. In contrast to some of the more critical reviews here, I enjoyed both the narrative arc and writing style.

5-0 out of 5 stars An Interesting Journey into Buddhism
If you're looking for entertaining historical fiction, this may hit the mark. If you're looking to be inspired with how to evolve spiritually as did Siddhartha, into the Buddha, then this is the perfect book for you.

Buddha, who lived in a time of oral, not written tradition, has many differing accounts of his life now in print. Deepak Chopra's historical novel takes the most agreed-upon facts and adds his interpretation of Buddha's emotions and experiences. At once, Buddha becomes a more understandable figure, and the Buddhist philosophy more approachable to the reader.

Chopra reimagines the early life of Siddhartha, who left his princely throne to seek spiritual enlightenment. This novel is replete with evil gods, bloody battles, and a taste of the Indian culture of the time to capture the reader's interest. This tome on the inner thoughts and motivations of Buddha traces each step in the journey that led Siddhartha to cast off his material life and reach enlightenment. In this way, Chopra illustrates, rather than preaches, the principles of Buddhism - that the root of suffering is illusion and belief in the separate self.

At the end of the book, there is an epilogue that explains the basic tenets of Buddhism for those who want to follow this path.

3-0 out of 5 stars Buddha, the novel
I immediately began to see that this was written more like a novel than a true story, but Chopra tries to bring us an inside look into what life was like when Buddha was alive and experiencing his transformation to enlightenment.

It was a good story....but the concept of prolonged meditation is not one that would be easy for most people to experience.

I was interested in learning more about Buddha, and for that, Chopra did not fail me.

4-0 out of 5 stars Buddha: A Story of Enlightenment
Initially the story was slow going with details of Siddhartha's early life and childhood, I believe it was narrated for the purpose of suggesting his normalcy given his situation. Overall Deepak's writing style left me a little dry.

The amount of time and the degree of being an ascetic where he was near physical death I had not previously considered, though I am aware this happens on a regular basis for those taking this path.

Fundamental metaphysical understandings such as the Oneness of All that Is and how to reach/attain and then live such an understanding were pretty well presented. That the Buddha was not anyone more special than anyone else might be a challenge for some if they are looking for a spiritual icon. The suggestion that the only thing that is real is not real is of course a brain twister. This refers to the Universe of form and appearance.

Many consider Buddhism a religion. It is nothing but a more philosophical method of experiencing ones life and by implication all methods ultimately are the same.

If the reader is new to such thoughts they may have a hard time with the concepts presented. It is only towards the end of the book where these concepts are presented. I would have liked to read Deepak's impressions of what was really going on in the mind of the young Siddhartha. What kind of questions he had internally about life and its possible purpose.

A friend of mine recently told me of seeing a picture where there was the body of the Buddha with the head of a dog. She's a dog person. Anyway I told her I believe the Buddha would have agreed with such a representation. The Buddha nature resides in All that Is.

I would recommend this book to people who are just starting to more seriously question aspects of their beliefs. Personally I enjoyed Hermann Hesse's "Siddhartha" more. ... Read more

Product Description
Happiness is something everyone desires. Yet how to find happiness–or even if we deserve to–remains a mystery. Still more mysterious is the secret to a lasting happiness that cannot be taken away. In The Ultimate Happiness Prescription, bestselling author Deepak Chopra shows us seven keys to uncover the true secrets of joy in the most difficult times.

The goal of life is the expansion of happiness, he contends. But in today’s demanding world, that goal seems elusive, if not impossibly out of reach. Society reinforces the belief that fulfillment comes from achieving success, wealth, and good relationships. Yet Chopra tells us that the opposite is true: all success in life is the by-product of happiness, not the cause.

So what is the cause? The Ultimate Happiness Prescription shares spiritual principles for a life based on a sense of your “true self” lying beyond the ebb and flow of daily living. Simple daily exercises lead to eliminating the root causes of unhappiness and letting a deeper level of bliss unfold.

After all avenues to happiness have been explored and exhausted, only one path is left: the journey to enlightenment. In The Ultimate Happiness Prescription, the daunting and exotic challenge of finding enlightenment becomes accessible step by step. We are taken on an inspiring journey to the true self, the only place untouched by trouble and misfortune.

On the way we learn the secrets for living mindfully and with effortless spontaneity. Now happiness is no longer hostage to external events but an experience we carry with us always. As Chopra inspiringly concludes, “Everything we fear in the world and want to change can be transformed through happiness, the simplest desire we have, and also the most profound.” ... Read more

Spirituality and Enlightement are difficult subjects to write about and Deepak's 50 odd books, essentially contain the same message - how do you make Happiness Permanent? Product Description
Who is Jesus? In The Third Jesus, Deepak Chopra provides an answer that is both uplifting and challenging to current beliefs. There is not one Jesus, Chopra writes, but three.

The first is the historical Jesus, the man of flesh and blood who lived more than two thousand years ago. The second Jesus is a person who never lived but is a figure created by the Church to represent thousands of years of theology and Church teaching.

Behind these two images stands a third Jesus, the radical, mystical teacher who taught his followers how to change the world. In The Third Jesus, Chopra explores Jesus’ original message, revealing a spiritual guide of profound depth and inspiration that speaks to anyone who believes in the importance of peace and love.
By turning fresh eyes on the New Testament and returning to the essentials of Jesus’ message, Chopra shows how the third Jesus can truly transform our lives—and humanity. ... Read more

I have only read bits of this book for now, as I am currently finishing up a degree in Nutrition.I have a huge stack of books to read for pleasure; I will share what I have learned from the bits I have read.
This book has an aspect to it that I have found special, I will share why.
I feel the author has looked deeply into the essense of what the Man really wanted to give us through his walk and teachings.I feel a re connection to the spirituality of Jesus now, as this seems an honest account of a wonderful person. Not a political figurehead for churches, to dictate their own agendasThe Third Jesus: The Christ We Cannot Ignore.
If anyone is still interested I will be able to read this around the summer of next year, as it looks like that will be the end of my last med class and two internships.Yea!Tx Bonnie Clark

4-0 out of 5 stars Repetitious
I was only able to get halfway through this book.I my opinion, I think Deepak is in the habit of writing too many books. Not my cup of tea, although it might be enlightening to anyone who has not read his earlier works.

2-0 out of 5 stars This had so much potential....
I have been a Deepak Chopra reader for over 20 years.I was looking forward to this book- and was disappointed.
Some of the statements he makes spark your interest, or make you begin to think-- then he just suddenly changes the topic.I don't expect to be spoon fed information or philosophy, but expanding on some of these concepts, or even giving more direct examples of "why" this is a valid philosophy would be helpful. He often will state an opinion, then not give any supporting evidence.

At this point, I feel like after reading his stuff for this long, once you've read one, you've read them all.At least this was not as disappointing as the Buddha book he wrote.

3-0 out of 5 stars Fairly decent book
There are three conceptions of Jesus, according to Chopra -- the historical Jesus who essentially is lost to us; the Jesus created by thousands of years of Christian theology and man's manipulation; and the mystical Jesus who offers a path to the enlightenment.Interesting premise. But Chopra went far afield at times from what he intended to show.In that respect, the book could have been much shorter. At times it was a "how to guide" toward enlightenment. At times it was a diatribe against Christian manipulation of the historical Jesus.I enjoyed the aspects of the book, however, that were devoted to the book's announced purpose -- showing how Jesus's sayings were really pointers to God-consciousness or enlightenment. We probably will never know who the true Jesus was, but one thing is apparent to me -- he was one remarkable dude.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Fresh New Perspective!
I totally enjoyed this wonderful book. Filled with a new perspective about Jesus being a Metaphysical Soul, Deepak has really put Jesus' mission in his human life on a level where we can understand what he was trying to accomplish here. I also loved the many sections where Deepak has chosen to quote Jesus' messages to us in a way that we can really understand what he meant. Bravo - A+ ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Good basic knowledge
I enjoyed this book because of the way Chopra relates the laws to our everyday life. His language is clear, and simple. He makes it easy to comprehend. It's a good little book to start you out on your journey, or remind you of how to better apply the laws.

Reviewed by Irene Watson for Reader Views (04/10)

Deepak Chopra believes in spiritual laws; laws to live by and if lived work to the highest good of the person. In the introduction it says "This little book is titled `The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success' but it also could be called `The Seven Spiritual Laws of Life,' because these are the same principles in material existence - everything we can see, hear, smell, taste, or touch."The seven laws covered in this pocket sized book are: pure potentiality, giving and receiving, karma or cause and effect, least effort, intention and desire, detachment, and dharma or purpose in life.

Personally I've been an advocate of Deepak Chopra's work since his first book. His own life, belief and health are great inspirations to follow while he gives gentle guidance. This book, "The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success," is such guidance. When we take the time to live each principle, our lives will be changed. He encourages us to take time for ourselves and just "be." As well, he encourages us to harmonize with others while accepting who they are, without judgment.Sometimes this isn't an easy task but if we follow the principles of spiritual awareness, all things are possible.Little book, huge impact.

4-0 out of 5 stars Easy and Effective
Deepak Chopra has broken down the laws of life as he sees them into seven spiritual laws. It is easy to read and if followed as Deepak suggests can be life changing. It does bring home to the reader that unless we are prepared to put the effort into how to change we will continue to live out our life only in probabilities and not the possibilities that come with meditation and intent.

5-0 out of 5 stars "This existence of ours is as transient as autumn clouds."
It is always nice to find someone out there that thinks the same way you do, however express it much better.
In "The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success", by Deepak Chopra, he describes the fundamental principles of the universe and how we as part of the universe can be successful. Throughout the book he has to slow sown and explain how he is using many of the words as we usually give them different meaning. Then there are a few times that he has to turn to Indian words instead of making up new ones. Many say he is based in Ancient Vedic concepts yet if you did not know of them you would relies these are concepts of the now.
He hits the deck running with this book so if you have not been exposed to these concepts before you may need to re-read the book several times. And this book was not meant to jus be read you need to practice the concepts to understand them. This book is based on "Creating Affluence" and does not have the size to contain a lot of background reasoning for drawing conclusions. Your practice off the laws will do that for you.
The concepts are too simple to give the titles any meaning however here they are.
1. The Law of Pure
The source of all creation is pure consciousness...
2. The Law of Giving
The universe operates through dynamic exchange...
3. The Law of "Karma" or Cause and Effect
Every action generates a force of energy that returns to us in like kind...
4. The Law of Least Effort
Nature's intelligence functions with effortless ease...
5. The Law of Intention and Desire
Inherent in every intention and desire is the mechanics for its fulfillment...
6. The law of Detachment
In detachment lies the wisdom of uncertainty...
7. The law of "Dharma" or Purpose in life
Everyone has a purpose in life...
On a personal note it is so eerie that many of the things he talks about especially in the seventh law was the way me ad my siblings were raised. However I was 20 years old before cutting throw my first Veda

Leave it to the venerable Deepak Chopra to subtly explain Quantum Physics in words that make ME understand the whole concept for the first time. The understanding of Quantum Physics lays the foundation for the rest of his principles and beliefs which can only be described as soul-awakening.

3-0 out of 5 stars Wow! What a revelation!
I've read many of Deepak's books, some're quite dry, this could be due to the fact that he's a man of science. But this book amazes me, Deepak's successfully used his spiritual insight as well as his knowledge of science to create a masterpiece.
Although you'll come across terms like 'Heisenberg Uncertainity Principle","Minkowski's eight dimensional hyperspace" this book's not that dry. (I happen to read the large print edition).

What Deepak's trying to tell us is that we're not alone in this universe,we're all inter-related.

Deepak's devised a program for the reader to follow so that he or she'll be able to tune in with the desire of our Creator or Universe.

According to Deepak there's no coincidences,it's only our failure to discern the plan that our Creator's put in place for us. If we can empty our mind, be still, listen to the voice within we'll be able to navigate life together with our creator and fulfill all our wishes and lead a life of fulfilment.

4-0 out of 5 stars Lovely message: effective approach
Folks who are familiar with eastern traditional thought will recognized most of the A to Z steps - they apply to how to live your life not just aquire affluence. But Deepok Chopra does such a nice job of putting them into every day, western context, that he'll make a few converts out of those not familiar with eastern thought. And I gotta say, after many months of enjoying listening to the rythmic patterns of his voice, the promises of the CD are coming to fruition.

5-0 out of 5 stars Chopra Revisited
Years ago Deepak Chopra came out with Quantum Healing which I found interesting particularly because he was a physician. At that time this thinking was rather avant-garde.Then, as the years passed, Deepak was everywhere, a manufacturer of spiritual goods. It really was really off putting and I wanted nothing Deepak for many years.

Then, one day I was doing some research about wealth and money and up he came--wouldn't you know it!I got curious, watched a bunch of youtube videos of him in various interviews, his blog video, etc., and my mind was changed again.

Of all people speaking out there, he is the real thing.Deepak knows spirit, knows the light. He knows this through experience and through the mind.He is massively knowledgeable.Furthermore, he's continually pushing his own edges. This is impressive, in a world where spiritual teachers find one thing and they try to make money from it for the rest of their lives without seemingly growing and changing themselves.

The way I know he is the real thing is because no matter who he is speaking to, no matter what aspect of spirit/matter he's talking about, he's always able to say it in a different way, come at it from a different perspective.A person who has no experience of spirit, Truth, could not do that. They simply do not have that well from which to draw. They'd repeat information, rather than re-configure direct experience.

And the products . . . . I've come to do healing work myself and my clients need things and I am running myself ragged to put it in as many formats as I can to reach all of them, all the different needs, different ways they process information and the different ways they learn. So, I understand now his manufacturing tendencies :-)

Creating Affluence is terrific. It draws on the deepest Truth and expresses it from a variety of angles. It is good to read it again and again as a way to remember what's Real and how the Real connects to this life here in matter.

5-0 out of 5 stars Delightful!
This book is another great book by Deepak Chopra. It was Delightful and refreshing. I love the affirmations and the break down from A-Z of how to create affluence.Repetition is the key and I am exciting to read it again. Product Description
A decade ago, Deepak Chopra, M.D., wrote Perfect Health, the first practical guide to harnessing the healing power of the mind, which became a national bestseller. The book described how breakthroughs in physics and medicine were underscoring the validity of a 5,000-year-old medical system from ancient India known as Ayurveda ("the knowledge of life span" in Sanskrit). Perfect Health went on to describe how to apply the ancient wisdom of Ayurveda to everyday life. In celebration of this classic work we have created this new edition, revised and updated to include the latest medical research.

Although we experience our bodies as solid, they are in fact more like fires that are constantly being consumed and renewed. We grow new stomach linings every five days, for instance. Our skin is new every five weeks. Each year, fully 98 percent of the total number of atoms in our bodies is replaced. Ayurveda gives us the tools to intervene at this quantum level, where we are being created anew each day. Ayurveda tells us that freedom from sickness depends on contacting our own awareness, bringing it into balance, and then extending that balance to the body.

Perfect Health provides a complete step-by-step program of mind body medicine tailored to individual needs. A quiz identifies the reader's mind body type: thin, restless Vata; enterprising, efficient Pitta; tranquil, steady Kapha; or any combination of these three. This body type becomes the basis for a specific Ayurvedic program of diet, stress reduction, neuromuscular integration, exercise, and daily routines. The result is a total plan, tailor-made for each individual, to reestablish the body's essential balance with nature; to strengthen the mind body connection; and to use the power of quantum healing to transcend the ordinary limitations of disease and aging--in short, for achieving Perfect Health.

What happens to the spirit after the body dies?

In Life After Death, Deepak Chopra draws on cutting-edge scientific discoveries and the great wisdom traditions to provide a map of the afterlife. He tells us there is abundant evidence that “the world beyond” is not separated from this world by an impassable wall; in fact, a single reality embraces all worlds, all times and places.

1-0 out of 5 stars I returned the book back
I tried hard to read the book but after a few chapters I returned it. I don't see the point in talking about more illusions of the spirit. If the afterlife is something a spirit imagines then we need to transcend that, to realize the truth. As an example lets say in 2200 AD we create a world of virtual reality and somehow we are so immersed in it that we forget we are in a virtual reality. Then someone in the virtual world is "awakened" to realize that we are really human beings who have a set of eyes, ears, nose, etc hooked to a bunch of machines which creates this virtual reality. So whats the point in writing about humans and describing what happens to humans, when human existence itself is an illusion. What I am saying is that "waking up" to another illusion is a waste of time and effort. Lets just get to the bottom of the rabbit hole rather than worrying about the intermediate states.

Life after Death: The Burden of Proof
By Deepak Chopra ISBN 0-30734-578-5, Harmony Books, 2006

I am one of the growing population of people who require some rationality for my beliefs and I'm always looking for information that will validate, or invalidate, my beliefs. Deepak draws from the latest scientific discoveries to show that there is a continuum to life, which continues as a creative process when we die to our earthly level of awareness. The importance becomes all too clear as you learn that our afterlife experience has a lot to do with our beliefs in this world. I believe Candace Perte, Ph.D., author of Molecules of Emotion, put it best, "A must read for everyone who will die."

1-0 out of 5 stars Not for Pragmatists
The flowery writing is elegant and prosaic but for those who prefer factual analysis and clarity this isn't the book for you.
The sub-title: burden of proof, entices the reader by promising an investigation but there was little evidence of that.
If you're seeking to be better informed on the subject of the after-life, you'd better give this one a miss.

Product Description
The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success was a phenomenon that touched millions of lives. Its author, Deepak Chopra, received thousands of letters from parents who expressed the desire to convey the principles they had learned to their children, along with questions about how to do so.

The Seven Spiritual Laws for Parents is Dr. Chopra’s answer to those parents who wish to raise children with values that satisfy spiritual needs as well as create the experience of abundance. Exploring specific ways to practice the Seven Spiritual Laws as a family, Chopra explains how to convey these laws to children, and how to embody them in age-specific activities each day.

The Seven Spiritual Laws for Parents moves us beyond a focus on private triumphs and failures to experience the spiritual nature of communion with family, to share with those closest to us the infinite riches of innocence and love.

The deepest nurturing you can give your child is spiritual nurturing.

There are seven simple sayings that can have a profound impact on your child’s life.

• Everything is possible.

• If you want to get something, give something.

• When you make a choice, you change the future.

• Don’t say no—go with the flow.

• Every time you wish or want, you plant a seed.

• Enjoy the journey.

• You are here for a reason.

Raised with these insights, every child can obtain the success that comes from having the most valuable skills anyone can possess: the ability to love and have compassion, and the capacity to feel joy and spread it to others. In this essential work for every parent, Deepak Chopra reflects on his experiences as a father as well as his own spiritual journey and offers profound and practical ways for sharing these principles with your children.

In The Seven Spiritual Laws for Parents: Guiding YourChildren to Success and Fulfillment, healer and philosopher Deepak Choprafollows up on his runaway bestseller, The Seven Spiritual Lawsof Success, by extending and reinterpreting his spiritual lawsfor parents. "From the day your baby is born, you are a teacher ofspirit," Chopra writes. "Look upon spirituality as a skill in living, since that is what it is. I believe in imparting these skills as earlyas possible by whatever means a child can understand." To meet thisend, Chopra translates his own "laws" so that even the youngest childcan comprehend them. For instance, Chopra's First Law, "The source ofall creation is pure consciousness ... pure potentiality seekingexpression from the unmanifest to the manifest," translates as"everything is possible." In his wise and deceptively simple program(focusing each day of the week on one of the seven laws), Choprasuggests ways for parents to teach children truly spiritual values byincorporating spiritual goals into family life. --Ericka Lutz ... Buy It and Digest these values. We could all benefit from the recognizing the basics of spirituality.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good
Since I purchased other books & DVD from Dr. Chopra.

This book is pretty much the same like other ones in term of concepts.
I was looking for more practice examples parents face daily when teaching their children.
This book is lack of that, very few examples. Mostly talks at a higher level (spiritually)...which is good if you don't own other books from him.

5-0 out of 5 stars What else is there?
What else is there in this world to instill into our children if it isnt this? This book was incredibly powerful for me, I suggested all the adults in my houshold read it, as they are influencing my children as well.. So simple, yet so profound at the same time. If every person in the world incorporated just ONE of theses principles into their daily lives, the world would be a VASTLY different, better place. Thank the stars for Deepak Chopra and his wisdom and insight into the nature of spirit.

Product Description
Here is an extraordinary new approach to healing by an extraordinary physician-writer -- a book filled with the mystery, wonder, and hope of people who have experienced seemingly miraculous recoveries from cancer and other serious illnesses.

Dr. Deepak Chopra, a respected New England endocrinologist, began his search for answers when he saw patients in his own practice who completely recovered after being given only a few months to live. In the mid-1980's he returned to his native India to explore Aruyveda, humanities most ancient healing tradition. Now he has brought together the current research of Wetern medicine, neuoscience, and physics with the insights of Ayurvedic theory to show that the human body is controlled by a "network of intelligence" grounded in quantum reality. Not a superficial psychological state, this intelligence lies deep enough to change the basic pattenrs that design our physiology -- with the potential to defeat cancer, heart disease, and even aging itself. in this inspiring and pioneering work, Dr. Chopra offers us both a fascinating intellectual journey and a deeply moving chronicle of hope and healing. Amazon.com Review
Early on in Quantum Healing, Deepak Chopra asks aninteresting question: Why, when your body mends a broken arm, is itnot considered a miracle, but when your body rids itself of cancer, itis? Chopra believes the two phenomena spring from the same well, thatthe body is capable of doing much more than we assume it can. He callsthis ability to cure disease from within "quantum healing,"and shows how we're all capable of it. He believes intelligenceexists everywhere in our bodies, in each of our 50 trillion cells, andthat therefore each cell knows how to heal itself. It's a fascinatingassertion, one that remains unprovable by science but overwhelminglytrue by anecdote. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT
AS MANY ALREADY KNEW, CHOPRA DESCRIBES HEALING IN A MOST INTELLIGENT AND READIBLE MANNER. A GREAT SOURCE OF INFORMATION ABOUT HEALING.

5-0 out of 5 stars A unified approach
The idea that our bodies singularly manufacture the best medicine is nothing new. But can we use our minds to direct our bodies to defeat life-threatening illnesses?

Doctor Chopra believes we can have an enhanced holistic approach, emplying a cokmbination of Eastern and Western merthods.

I may have to re-read many sections of this book but my take is that the new idea is that intelligence is found *throughout* the body and it is a discrete particle -not immaterial or imaginative. We have a real question-answer dynamic going in every single cell and we must fortify and protect that cellular property.

While the author challenges the reader to look deeper and deeper inside and outside, he also gives a very helpful history of Indian Philosophy as it relates to Health and Healing; also a guide for how TM can be applied in prevention *and* healing. A Glossary would have been helpful, in this regard.

Enough of my interpretation. I would hope that a person struggling with an illness and in distress should ask his/her Doctor about this book - maybe buy him/her a copy.

Graphs/illustrations are sometimes very hard to understand, despite simplicity.
Further, I'd recommend reading the text very slowly...and with a fresh Bic pen (no plug...) for underscoring key words and phrases.

If you enjoy Deepak Chopra's television appearances, you'll hear his warm, measured tones in your head as you forge ahead with his text.

3-0 out of 5 stars Quantum Healing-By Dr Chopra
The book received was fine. However, it has some stains near the rim and inside the pages. I know the price is very cheap, but next time I prefer to purchase books in more nice appearance. Thank you.

5-0 out of 5 stars Dr. Deepak Chopra knows something you want to know.
I first read Quantum Healing about twelve years ago.I was studying how human consciousness occurs and my studies led me to this book.I was impressed by Dr. Chopra's excellent scholarship. He made complex workings of the human body make sense to a layman.Since reading this book, I have read more than eight other titles written by Dr. Chopra. My favorite book since Quantum Healing is The LOVE POEMS of RUMI.I purchased this copy of Quantum Healing to read the book again with a fresh look.I like to write in my books--taking notes and drawing images in the borders. This helps me when I go back to study the book again.I can quickly find information.I wanted a fresh look at Quantum Healing because it is so rich with ideas.I didn't want to just see what I had viewed the first time I read the book.I am convinced this book has messages for everyone.Thank you Deepak.

2-0 out of 5 stars Don't read this book if you're a cancer patient!
I've bought this book because my girlfriend has breast cancer and we're not going for conventional treatment (cut/poison/burn). The book was translated into our language (Dutch), so I thought this would be a good read for her - her English isn't very fluent, neither is mine...

At this point she was feeling pretty confident about her chances to beat this disease by non-convential means. However, when she read page 42 (54 in the Dutch edition) I immediately could see there was something wrong. When I asked her about it, she handed me the book and it didn't take long for me to realize what had upset her. The text went:

"Cancer is wild, anti-social behavior, whereby a single cell reproduces itself without check, heeding no signals from anywhere except, apparently, its own demented DNA. Why this occurs, no one knows. It is a good bet that the body itself knows how to reverse the process, but for some reason, equally unknown to science, it doesn't always succeed. It is only a matter of time, once the process begins, before the cancer cells overwhelm a vital organ, crowd out its normal cells, and cause death. When the final crisis comes, the cancer cells perish with the rest of the body, doomed by their ungoverned appetite for self-expansion."

Of course she was terrified! It took me a long time to explain to her that there was no direct danger, because no vital organs where involved in her case. Like most doctors, Deepak Chopra lacks the ability to be subtle with regard to their patient's feelings...

Because of the pretty harsh statements here and there, best read it BEFORE you get seriously ill.

Update (June 29 2010): we've followed 'German New Medicine' and altered our diet (based on B17) and to this date my girlfriend is doing great (feels and looks better than ever - an ultrasound from September 2009 showed no more signs of the two tumors in her right breast, which were discovered June 2009).

However, doctors are still doing their best to lure us back into 'standard therapy'.

Please people, get informed!

5-0 out of 5 stars exploring East Indian cooking and other treats
The Chopra Center Cookbook : A Nutritional Guide to Renewal / Nourishing Body and Soul.Once I discovered my neighborhood Indian grocery (for the spices, lentals, etc.)and I found the Kombu seaweed at the Health Food Store, I was off on a wild adventure making Indian cuisine. Some of the recipes are really wonderful, e.g., Oatmeal Power Cookies (amazing! Now a daily treat.),Simple Marinade for Tofu or Tempeh, Basic Dahl, Stir-Fry Buddha's delight, and the Simple White Sauce: Basic Roux, which is only 79 Calories and 4.5 Gms of Fat for a large serving. The Roux makes everything you put it with taste great.I put it in the the Simple Basic Soup (recipe in book) and it was excellent. I recommend this for all looking for healthy, delicious vegetarian dishes.

4-0 out of 5 stars A bit repetitive - really a 3 star item
I liked this cookbook at first but then many of the recipes taste the same. I was cooking up a storm when I first got this book but then many of the recipes use the same spices (cumin, coriander, onions and garlic) which can get a bit tedious. On the plus side, you can learn to cook without using too much oil.You can make desserts with whole wheat pastry flour which are really yummy instead of boring and heavy. I also think the ideas expressed on how to eat are right on and helpful.I originally gave this 4 stars but would give it 3 now that I have used it for months - due to the lack of variety of taste.Amazon wouldn't let me change the number of stars though.

5-0 out of 5 stars Tasty and healthy, woohoo
I haven't tried every recipe in this book but so far so good.I've especially enjoyed the baked goods (check out the Zucchini Pecan Bread). Not only are the recipes good but the sections that precede them provide some really interesting and inspiring information on eating. It's a great foundation from which to approach the recipes that follow as well as those from outside sources, and I definitely recommmend reading them through. If you make an effort to utilize the advice in the book you might just end up enjoying this required daily activity a whole lot more than you used to.What you get out of this book though depends on your schedule, because there is just so much to do and make that seems appealing.Personally, the meal plan seems quite challenging because of the amount of cooking involved, but the meals themselves are good tasting (some more so than others), not particularly difficult to cook, and maintain a focus on healthy ingredients.I'm glad that I have this around my kitchen now as a reliable source of vegetarian recipes.I also like that amazon offers the online version of this book for an extra dollar or two when you buy it.I can see that coming in handy if I happen to be cooking away from home, or if I'd like to share a recipe with friends.

5-0 out of 5 stars fabulous tasting food
I am new to cooking. This book is easy and the food is fabulous!!! I eat more veggies now in 1 day than I used to eat in a week and I'm enjoying them!

Product Description
You don't have to believe in God in order to experience God.
--- Deepak Chopra

The celebrated author of Ageless Body, Timeless Mind and The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success has written his most ambitious and important work yet, a runaway international bestseller that has inspired hundreds of thousands of readers to rethink their concept of God.

According to Chopra, the brain is hardwired to know God. The human nervous system has seven biological responses that correspond to seven levels of divine experience. These are shaped not by any one religion (they are shared by all faiths), but by the brain's need to take an infinite, chaotic universe and find meaning in it. How to Know God describes the quest each of us is on, whether we realize it or not. For, as Chopra puts it, "God is our highest instinct to know ourselves." This book makes a dramatic and enduring contribution to that knowledge.

5-0 out of 5 stars "Educational Material"
By Albert C. Bender, author of "YOU ARE FOREVER IN TIME"
"Ageless Body-Timeless Mind" clearly ampliefied for me, this authors knowledge and intellect on the subject matter he has written. It provides information that truly moves to the core of the subject matter that the author speaks about.
It is well written and thought-provoking throughout. I recommend this book highly to those who's interest lie within...I know it true, I practice it, and it works, believe me. Also read his other book titled "Grow Younger-Live Longer."

3-0 out of 5 stars No easy path
I believe one of the quotes in this book "People don't grow old. When they stop growing, they become old"illustrates what Chopra is helping to bring in this world of ours. In another way he is explaining what Dr Bruce Lipton has been able to show through science that Epigenetics is what determines how we age and how we will fare with our health. But through meditation, right living and awareness we can live a life of fulfillment that medicine can not offer us. It takes courage to step outside of the traditional paradigm and Chopra does it so well.

5-0 out of 5 stars To understand your immortal nature...
In this wonderful book (a must!), Deepak Chopra explains in a very understandable way and from A to Z, the difference between growing old and growing sick, being the last one, the accepted condition in our Western cultures for anyone over 45 years old, but amazingly, this does not have to be... it's actually a matter of awareness! biological age depends on psychological age he says, implying that knowledge of true nature is essential to overcome the fear and sorrow feelings that are really responsible for our cells' inability at a certain point of age (beginning at around 30 years old) to rejuvenate themselves; "the habit of fear has sunk so deep that the body remembers to carry it out, even when the mind is resisting with all its might".

We are not these bodies, but the thoughts that create it and those ones come from the Field... and it is right here where this book grows interesting; unity is what we should always aim for. Our physical world and our inner world (quantum) are closely related, forming the unity that gives consistency to the world we perceive, but perception is reality and ours is conditioned to think we are trapped in time and space so,we grow old and die because we expect that. We interpret that as the end, while it is really transformation. The moment we understand that the nature of our awareness is timeless, this process of growing old can stop and even reverse. It's our unique capacity of consciousness among all living creatures, which gives us this possibility.

After reading this book, I can also see, that in a couple hundred years from now, many aspects of our Western, modern medicine, will be seen as not very different to that from the middle ages in our eyes today... a wonderful read that will give you a completely different view of life, death, health, sickness, aging, healing and eternity. A tool, more than a book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Ageless and Timeless it IS
I first read this book in 1994, the year after it was first published. It was then that I found it quite inspiring and I still do. For anyone that needs to know that there are things about ourselves to believe in, other than what we can see and feel, this book will show you the grand possibilities that exist. It is awe-inspiring and all-inspiring to be able to recognize just how vast the science of health and healing truly is...and this book is simply the introduction to it all. For those of you that need "proof" about everything in life, I think you would do well to try this book on for size and see how you can open your mind to the alternatives and the things that make our world as complex and as wonderful as it truly is. The science is explained in an easy to read format and Dr. Chopra's spiritual wisdom is an extra bonus. You will begin to see life from a multi-faceted perspective and I do believe it will help you to become more optimistic about your health and your life in general. I highly recommend it. ...
