5-0 out of 5 stars Great book for youngsters
It's funny, when my 3 year old son first had this book read to him, he acted very scared by it, but I quickly realized he had just discovered what it felt like to experience suspense! He became obscessed with this book and had me read it over and over.I finally got an audio CD version, and he continues to listen to that and follow along in the book.He absolutely loves this book!He likes being scared and then realizing that it's actually funny. It was a great transformation, or maturing, that I got to witness in him because of this book.I will always have fond memories associated with this book...........when he finally tires of it, that is......

5-0 out of 5 stars arthur's first sleepover
this is a good book. it is all about camping. first arthur is going to camp in his backyard. he is going to camp with his buddys buster and the brain. then arthur has to put up the tent. dw wants to camp with him. but she can't. then dw went indoors to hide the flashlight. then dw said i wonder if you will see any aliens. then arthur said lets put up some signs. then that night they herd footsteps. but it was only dad with some pizza. then he said to go to sleep. so the boys said good night and went to sleep. but just as dad went indoors they shot out of their beds. just as they were about to play go fish. they saw flashing lights. they went pale as a ghost. just as they were about to get even more pale they ran! right in too a tree. just then brain said look! the lights are comeing from dw's room. then arthur went to dws room. here's your camera he said. you will probably see an alien before we do he said. and went back outdoors. just then dw heard a tap at her window. she screamed!.

4-0 out of 5 stars Another great Arthur adventure
Arthur is a great series of books for English Language Learners and younger children (K-3rd grade). They really enjoy the stories and each one has an important lesson to be learned. This one is no exception.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Party of Junk Food
I read "Arthur's First Sleepover." In the story Arthur was having a sleepover in a tent. D.W. thought there was an alien. Arthur was trying to find a flashlight. Buster and Brian came in the door. In the tent they they had junk food. And I want to say it is funny.

Product Description
Rumor has it that Francine is finally going to find a way to kiss Arthur at her birthday party. Arthur is worried, until he is assured that they will not play that spin-the-bottle kissing game. Instead, Francine and Muffy have a devilishly clever plan, and only D.W. and Pal can save Arthur.
Amazon.com Review
After hearing rumors that Francine is planning to kiss Arthur at her party, Arthur's sister, D.W., saves the day in an unexpected way. Devious Francine tricks Arthur with a kissing game, and Muffy leads him out to the garage to await his fate. D.W., walking by with their dog, Pal, catches on to the plot, and sends Pal through the cat door to warn Arthur with a few sloppy kisses of his own. "Run for your life!" yells D.W., and Arthur does, but not without a pause to snag a big piece of cake for his new bodyguard!

Children are enraptured with Marc Brown's stories of the unique aardvark hero on PBS, as well as in many early reader picture books. And with the entertaining "Step into Reading" sticker book series, there's a bonus--two full pages of peel-off stickers enable kids to practice their reading and writing skills. Certain words in the story are printed in blue ink--young readers are encouraged to find the corresponding sticker picture and place it over the blue word. The second page of stickers illustrates places and themes and allows budding writers to try their hand at creative writing as they make up stories based on the sticker images--in this case, aquarium scenes. Don't miss Arthur's Reading Race or any of Arthur's other "Step into Reading" adventures. (Ages 3 to 6) --Emilie Coulter ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars An Alien? A Robot? Who Could the Mystery Babysitter Be?
This, part of a new series of Arthur books targeted towards slightly younger readers, is another wonderful addition to the series. Like all the books in this set, this book features bright, attractive full page illustrations and an engaging story. Also included on the back is a fun Mad Libs game for kids to play --- although you'll probably wanna make a copy or write it down, rather than writing on the book itself.

The plot is this: Mr. and Mrs. Read are going out and Arthur and D.W. are curious as to just who their babysitter will be. Mom and Dad think Arthur and D.W. will like a surprise, but as kids will do, Arthur and D.W. think of the worst. They're soon spinning fantasies that the babysitter could be anything from a robot to even Arthur's strict teacher, Mr. Ratburn. (A scenario that seems to appeal only to Baby Kate --- in the fantasy, D.W.'s dozing and Arthur's barely awake, while Baby Kate is scribbling at the bottom of a whiteboard, having apparently just done some advanced algebra!) Can any of these aweful scenarios be as bad as reality?

So who's the mystery babysitter? Well, if you're at least somewhat familiar with the series, then you'll probably be able to guess just from the profile with a question mark on the front cover. If not, then prepare to be surprised just like Arthur and D.W. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Laurie Krasny and Marc Brown Do Enjoyable Schooltime Story
Rex and Lilly are two cute dino characters created by Laurie Krasny and Marc Brown, authors of the "Dino-Life Guides for Families." In these simple, charming stories, the two explore show-and-tell, trading lunches, and reading books.

"Show-and-Tell"

Rex has something special for his class for show-and-tell, but it's a big secret. Everybody tries to guess what it is by asking a series of questions. Rex's surprise is humorous in nature.

"Want to Trade?"

Rex decides to try trading lunches, setting off a chain of trades. Anyone who's ever had fun trading lunches at school (or elsewhere) before will have fun with this one.

"Lilly Reads"

Lilly has trouble reading at first, but eventually discovers the sheer joy to be found in reading.

The illustrations are softly colored and work nicely with the action. The characters, as anthropomorphized dinosaurs, will be enjoyed by readers of all ages. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars We Love D.W. !
Our family really enjoys the Arthur and D.W. stories, and my two-year-old, in particular, can't seem to get enough of this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars D.W. Go to your Room!
The book was in great shape. Ready to go right on the shelf in my school library.

5-0 out of 5 stars D.W. Learns Kindness From Her Baby Sister
In "D.W., Go to Your Room!" D.W. is playing with her baby sister, Kate, but doesn't want to share her blocks. When she shouts at Kate and threatens to pinch her, she gets sent straight up to her room!

D.W. thinks that this is a very unfair punishment. She compares herself to a "prisoner" and a "servant girl." She even dreams of running away with Grandma Thora. But when D.W. is asked to look after Kate while Mom makes dinner, D.W. realizes just how mean she was.

This is a sweet story for anyone with a younger / baby sibling, or for any Arthur or D.W. fan. Arthur doesn't really feature in this book, though he is seen a few times.

5-0 out of 5 stars It's Blockalicious
In D.W. Go To Your Room! Kate knocks down D.W.'s blocks. Mom says D.W. go to your room! So D.W. stomps up to her room. It reminded me of when my little brother knocked my blocks down. But you should read this book because it's blockalicious. If you like blocks and your brother or sister knocks your blocks down, You will love it!

5-0 out of 5 stars All Arthur Books Are Treasures But This One Does Something I Particularly Like
Here as in all of Mr. Brown's spectacular Arthur series you'll find a fun tale, illustrations you want to keep looking at to find all the little details, and the story of the goings-on in the (mis)adventures of the old familiar characters, but in this one there's something more that's especially neat. After DW gets sent to her room for hurting Baby Kate and generally acting up, she at first broods over what she feels like is her unfair lot in life, and then Brown gets really cool and makes you think about the way a child DW's age experiences time in relation to how an adult does. To DW as to all children, ten minutes banishment is a gulf of quasi-intolerable length and if a grown-up stops to think about that, it's a fairly deep topic, this perception of time. ... Read more

Product Description
'I can read it all by myself' is the Beginner Books motto, and behind it is an understanding of how important it is for children to take pride and pleasure in their early reading. Beginner Books have been designed to appeal directly to children through the use of humour, rhyme, and bright pictures that can be 'read' even by the non-reading child. Some Beginner Books are simple stories, others are hilarious nonsense: both types have been designed to give children confidence and make them want to go on reading. Ghosts and witches, vampires and mummies -- these characters are as popular with children as riddles are, so the combination of SPOOKY RIDDLES is a winner. Look for the other books of riddles in the Beginner Book series. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Wings on Things by Marc Brown
Wings on Things is about how wings are used, where are they used and when they are used. This is a very fun book for ages 5 and under becase there is a lot of rhyming and a lot of creativity. Children may also like this book because it is creative, good illustrations, and very childish book. I would recommend it to every child under 5 to read this book because it is creative and good for them.

1-0 out of 5 stars Very poor and undeserving of Bright and Early series
Forget this one. I've loved the other books in the Bright and Early, but this is a genuine stinker. The book's "cadence" is uneven. There are stretches where each page has only a brief sentence, and then one page will be jammed with an extremely long sentence. I especially didn't like how it provides very confusing messages for kids... for example, it outlines what sorts of wings are possible, citing examples of wings on animals and insects, and then it cites 'wings' on a couch. It tells kids that there can't be wings on bears and cats, but at the end, it says that there are wings in outer space and shows robots on a distant planet. I just believe that it should either be fiction and let kids dream about possibilities or referential, but not try to be both.

5-0 out of 5 stars Arthur And The Pen-Pal Playoff
I read Arthur And The Pen-Pal Playoff. I think this book is great. I think little boys and girls will want to read this wonderful book. This book is great for nine year olds to read.
Little kids will want to read this book over and over again, it's an adventure. This is a way to keep young ones away from the TV. I do recommend this book.
