Product Description
Dirt. It's in the air, under your bed, on the street and between your toes. Most of the time, you're trying to get rid of it. Does showering make you feel squeaky clean? Sure you are -- for now. Read this book to find out why you just can't escape dirt -- and why it's important for more reasons than you think.Earth, mud, grime, soil -- whatever you call it, dirt is everywhere, even where you don't expect it. Did you know that without dirt there would be no rain? Or beautiful sunsets? The Dirt on Dirt covers not only what you think of as dirt, but also everything on and around the planet relating to dirt, from dirt homes big and small to secrets the dirt hides and much more. Youngsters will also find a bucketful of fun things to do with dirt, including how to build a bike racetrack, create fossil footprints and grow a garden playhouse. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars This amazing book will fascinate even the most reluctant reader!
This wild 'n crazy and just plain old fun book on dirt says that you "probably spend a lot of time trying to get rid of the dirt in your life," but for a lot of kids that really doesn't apply.Just take a look of the toes on the cover of this book and you'll see that this youngster has spent more time trying to attract dirt than get rid of it.Dirt is all over the place and our bodies seem to have a way of attracting it.In this book you're going to find all kinds of interesting "dirt" stories, interesting experiments and will learn about all those yucky things that are under your bed.Did you know that there is even African sand under there?

In this book you will learn a lot of very interesting things. You'll learn how mud baths actually clean animals, you'll see a section on dirt bike racing, you'll discover what is in dirt, you'll find out about erosion, quicksand, sand sculptures, you'll learn about the composition of the Earth, you can read about archaeological finds, the dangers of landfills, Pompeii, fossils and much, much more. Did you know that "Charles Darwin used to play classical music to his worms?"HUH?

The cover of this book in no way belies the many treasures found inside. It's cover to cover fun. There are numerous one or two page stories that will fascinate and pull even the most reluctant reader through the book.Interspersed throughout the book are numerous experiments youngsters can try.For example, there are instructions on how to "grow a hideaway" with pole beans.Even one of my all time favorite stories about the Money Pit on Oak Island, Nova Scotia is in here!If you're in for a bit of adventure and like to explore many different "dirty" stories you might just like this book! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A great story-teaches a lesson with a joke at the end
This was a great story. Franklin learns how to be a great host in this story. I like the ending where Bear asks, "Next time, can Franklin sleep at my house?" Franklin's parents say yes, and Franklin says, "And don't worry about where I will sleep, because I always have my own cozy bed with me." The joke of this detail is that unlike most instances of having somebody sleep over where the host has to worry about where the guest will sleep(like when Franklin had Bear sleep over), if Franklin is the guest, he's a turtle who, at bedtime, just lays on any floor, crawls into his shell, and goes to bed.In other words, having a turtle(or any other animal that sleeps in its own shell) sleep over might be easier than usual. Great story!

5-0 out of 5 stars Enjoying A Friend
Franklin books are very good to read because they are always teaching you something new. Franklin is absolutely thrilled to have Bear spend a night. It also let the kids know it's ok to be homesick. I especailly liked how Franklin tried to make Bear feel better. In the book Franklin goes back to his room to make Bear feel more comfortable and gives Bunny a hug and says Good night to Bunny. In television episode, Franklin called Bear's parents and let him talked to his parents. Then they playe with the flashlight doing signals to Bears parents. Even though there is a slight difference between the book and the episode, they both had a good time. It teaches how you can make your friends feel less homesick whenthey spend a night with you.

5-0 out of 5 stars A moose and turtle in the same school?
We like the Franklin books, and so does our 3 year old son. Always a good lesson to learn, lots of animals doing things that my boy really enjoys. I don't know if any of the lessons have sunk in, but having a good example to follow is always a good idea.

4-0 out of 5 stars Franklin's New Friend
This is a very good book. I love the Franklin books. This book was about a moose that moved in and no one wanted to be friends with him because he was so big. Franklin ened up being friends with the moose at the end of the book. Moose is really nice and they are glad that they became friends with him.
If you ever get a chance to read this book please do so it is a good book to read!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Franklin's Valentine
This is a fun book to read to youngsters in kindergarten around Valentine's Day.This kids enjoy it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Lovely Story About Friendship!
Franklin's Valentines captures the true spirit of the holiday unlike many of the valentine books I've read where friends compete for the biggest or best valentine ever. I also appreciate that Franklin's predicament is realistic. I'm sure all of us at one time, or another have forgotten to bring something to school, or have lost, or broken items along the way. Children relate to Franklin's dilemma about feeling left out and embarrassed. The illustrations are bright and bold, which are certainly eye-catching. The author, Paulette Bourgeois, does a fine job of communicating her story without stretching the vocabulary, or being too wordy. There isn't any rhyme, or cadence to her text, but her sentence structure is easy to follow especially for young readers.Definitely a winner.

5-0 out of 5 stars Bring the Turtle back!
Rediscover Franklin! These wonderful books are full of humor, values and gentle guiding ways in everyday situations.A must for night time reading to calm boys and humor girls.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great story of friendship
My daughter loved this story as did I as the emphasis on Valentine's Day was about friendship and taking a day and celebrating friendships. As Franklin lost all of his Valentine's in the mud and didn't have any for hisfriends, he couldn't believe they still wanted to give him their cards andletters. He realized that friends like you for who you are and not whatyou can give them.As a parent, if feel this is one lesson that your kidscan't learn too often.

2-0 out of 5 stars Disappointed
The condition of the book was not "very good" as the advertisement stated. Rather, the book is very worn and much of the front cover is bent.

5-0 out of 5 stars They Needed to Stick Together
Franklin and his friends go out to play and Franklin is told not to go into the woods. His friends play hide and seek and he knows the usual places each of his friends hide, but he believes that the foxis going to try to fool him and go into the woods. So, Franklin forgets what he was told about not going into the woods and he thinks fox is going to trick him and hide in the woods. Not thinking the others would go home without him, Franklin goes into the woods and gets lost. At six o'clock they were all to go home, so the others thought Franklin must have started home, because they knew he was not to go into the woods. They all went home as they were told to do and Franklin was left behind, lost in the woods and it started to get dark.Luckily his parents came and figured out what happened after speaking to all of his friends and found a very frightened Franklin, who went home, ate and went to bed, knowing to follow the rules, and his parents were very happy to have found their son safe but very frightened and alone in the woods.Mrs. Symmington

5-0 out of 5 stars Pay Attention Where Your Going Even When Playing
My preschool daughter loves this book on how Franklin inadvertently gets lost while playing hide and seek. All ends well when Franklin is found by his parents. One cautionary note - the TV show version is different than the book.In the TV show Fox is lost along with Franklin. In the book, Franklin gets lost looking for Fox.My daughter noticed this right away.Regardless, its a very rewarding story.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book!!
I used to read this to my fifteen year old when she was little, she remembered it still, so I ordered it to read to my three year old.I had forgotten how well it was illustrated, and how kid friendly it was.I defenitely will NOT mind ready this one over and over again,,,,,again!Great book, cute storyline, and wonderful illustrations are sure to make this a favotite of your children too.

5-0 out of 5 stars They Don't Make The Right Sound!
Sarah's old boots make a special sound and the fit just right. But then one day they have shrunk and no amount of stretching by filling them with rocks and other means will ever make them fit her again. When they go to the store to buy a new pair of boots the only ones they have are yellow with a fire engine red stripe and Sarah will never like them! They are taken home. She gives her favorite boots to her brother and he loves them because they fit him perfectly. After it's rained again Sarah's family pulls on their boots. And when they play in the puddles Sarah's new boots make a different sound, but she doesn't mind after a while because they are just as much fun as the old ones and now she is enjoying the puddles with her brother.

The Pictures are well done because they cause you to be drawn into the story and feel exactly how Sarah felt thru the detailed expressions on her face and the characters used to compliment her.

Opinion:Most well done childrens books (at least in my experience) become memories when children grow up, thru the illustrator's pictures, if they're done well. And then the story is remembered thru that art not usually the other way around, in ages about 1-8 or so, then as they start to get into books that are more grown up they create their own pictures thru imagination so illustrations aren't as important in older childrens books.

5-0 out of 5 stars Helpfull book
This book is very helpfull in helping children come to grips with having to give there favorite shoes away because they are too small. It helps them to see the advantages to growing older and getting new things.

5-0 out of 5 stars Lost TV Episode Gets New Chance as a Book
I was quite pleased when I learned that this book was going to be available. This is a novelization of one of the lost fifth season episodes of the "Franklin" television series. This is one of many stories that viewers never got to see due to the cancellation of the program after the fourth season. Overall the story itself is fairly decent. Franklin is tired of having to go bed so early all the time and so he convinces his Mom to allow him to invite his friends for a "stay-up over." However, his plans start to fail when all of his friends want to get some sleep, but he keeps trying to find ways to keep them awake. Those who miss the television show will probably be pleased with this novelization, as there's a good chance this story may never make it to video. ... Read more

Here's Franklin with his friends in FRANKLIN GOES TO DAY CAMP. It's an excellent way to introduce kids to the idea of day camp and to the concept of journaling. There are word games and puzzles, a maze, and a board game, all surrounded by beautiful, bright illustrations. It's also good for a child who's sick or stuck indoors on a rainy day. I suggest using a pencil on the puzzles so you can erase and do them again. Or cover the page with plastic and write on that. The affordable book works on several levels: story, journal, games.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Stories
This is a great book.Wonderful illustrations and the stories are long enough for children 4+, but short enough to keep interest. It's a nice hardcover book with moral packed storylines.Great for any kids library.

4-0 out of 5 stars Franklin fans will love it.
Franklin, the charming emotional turtle graces the pages and stories in this great collection. I do not find Franklin "overly precious" at all.

He has the emotions of a child, and problems of a child. Little ones feel close to him and it leads them through postive problem solving techniques.

My son, who is five, loves the television show and his grandparents bought him the Franklin Classic Treasury. He loves to sprawl out on the floor and look at it while I read it to him. As a result, he truly seems to identify with Franklin's problems.

All children are afraid, or sad at some point. This is an excellent book for a young one. It's a very nature oriented collection for stories.

4-0 out of 5 stars Buy one, and get four
This great collection of Franklin stories, gives you four wonderful stories in one book!

The titles included in this treasury are:Franklin in the Dark; Hurry Up, Franklin; Franklin Fibs; and Franklin Is Bossy.

Franklin is a wonderful, young role model for readers and listeners.Hedoes not always do what is expected of him, but by the end of the story, heand the reader know what is right.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Holiday Tale Featuring Franklin and Friends
"Franklin loved Christmas. He could name all of Santa's reindeer. He could tie ribbons into bows and play 'Silent Night' on his recorder. Franklin liked to give presents and to receive them. But this year he couldn't decide what to give to the Christmas toy drive." -- From the book

Every Decemember, Mr. Owl's students donate toys to needy families--toys that could either be brand new or gently used.

This year, Franklin sifts through his toy box to select something for the holiday toy drive. He discovers some forgotten toys, like a shiny red car and a stuffed elephant. Finally, he decides that he wants to keep everything--except for a rusty truck with a missing wheel.

Franklin asks his father to help him fix the truck, but his Dad tells him that it won't look new or even gently used. Franklin replies that "everything else is too special to give away".

Franklin's Dad then talks to him about the importance of generosity.

The next day, Franklin realizes that all his friends are giving away their FAVORITE toys--causing Franklin to re-think his selection for the toy drive. Now, he worries that he won't be able to find a toy that's special *enough*!

Featuring gorgeous, colorful illustrations, Franklin's Christmas Gift is a wonderful holiday tale showing that the best gifts come from a willing heart--and that giving special gifts can generate feelings just as wonderful as those experienced when receiving them.

5-0 out of 5 stars Charming Franklin Christmas Story
In "Franklin's Christmas Gift," Mr. Owl tells Franklin and his classmates that they should pick out a toy to donate to the school toy drive. Franklin gets home, but can't seem to find anything he wants to give away except an old, rusty truck. But when he starts to see what everyone else is bringing and learns how important it is, he reconsiders.

Another great "Franklin" story about sharing what you have to make others happy. Featuring the same sort of warm illustrations as other books in this series and a neat character --- Franklin's Great Aunt Harriet.

5-0 out of 5 stars Franklin's Christmas Gift
As a mother of three small children, I love all of the Franklin series books. This book was particularly poignant at this time of year when children get focussed on the recieving part of their holidays. It lead usinto a discussion about giving and how that can feel just as wonderful asgetting. After that, my children were actually eager to participate indonating toys to our local church. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent teacher's book for class
This delightful, well illustrated tale of a classroom of students and their feather fluffing adventures is an outstanding work of educational real-life fiction. When the farmer drops off a dozen eggs to be incubated, the students soon learn that the cute baby chicks begin to grow into messy, smelly chickens. But the farmer thinks they've done such a great job, she brings in some rabbits and a goat too! Find a plethora of barnyard vocabulary, care, and goods in this cute little book for your class. Learn about the chicken lifecycle, and what animals can be used for in commerce (eggs, angora, and milk). The industrious students manage to sell enough of the farmyard productions to purchase a farm in the end where the animals live happily ever after... and then begin their next big science unit (I hope there's another book to follow this one). Excellent illustrations, action packed scenes, and beautifully written descriptions that young students (K-3) can really use to picture what it's like to hold a baby chick. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Tiff at GMS
The story was mainly told in the forest. The main characters in the story was Franklin. The minor characters were bear, rabbit, foxbeaver skunk. The theme was that this book would be that school is alot of fun and don't be afraid to go there. School is a good learning experience. The style would be that the author has a picture on every page and it has friends playing and having fun on every page.

5-0 out of 5 stars A very good Franklin book, very touching
Franklin knows that he has the best mother in the world, and with her birthday coming up, he wants to get her the best gift ever. He asks his friends for some ideas, but none of them seem good enough. And in the end, Franklin learns that what his mother wants more than anything is three little words, "I love you."

This is a very good Franklin book, very touching. As with all of the Franklin stories, this one is very well written, and the illustrations are bright and well-done. This is a great book, one that I give my highest recommendations to!

5-0 out of 5 stars Lovely
"Franklin Says I Love You" is one of the final releases of the original "Franklin" books by Paulette Bourgeois and Brenda Clark and it's definitely one of the sweetest. This book is about Franklin searching for the perfect gift for his Mom's birthday.

Franklin loves his Mom. She plays catch with him and reads him two stories every night before bed, even when she's tired. So Franklin really wants to do something special for his Mom.

You'll admire the sweetness of this story as Franklin finds the best gift of all. The illustrations are brightly colored and richly detailed. Almost all are full-page.
