3-0 out of 5 stars Franklin's Message Gets Across
My 5 year-old was sceptical about this book.Having read it a few times, he now relates to Franklin's moodiness and unwillingness to share his feelings.A good read; not too long; with an important message to kids.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good for military kids
We are a military family and I think this book really helped my daughter realize that moving away doesn't mean the end of friendships.

5-0 out of 5 stars Frankleen mad
Franklin is mad and having a bad day. Franklin does not want to do anything. He misses his friend.

5-0 out of 5 stars Franklin's the best
We love the Franklin series. He lives a real life, and teaches honest lessons. He doesn't always win, but even that is appealing in this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars My friend moved away
This is a very touching book. It shows emotions of what happens when a close friend moves away. Frankin takes it out on everybody. But in the end his father figures out that it was Otter's moving that upset Franklin. His father told him how they can still stay in contact with each other. Franklin sent Otter a puzzle that he made. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful!!!
This book is GREAT!It really helped my son overcome his fears of the dark.We noticed a huge difference after he started reading this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book - Still nostalgic for it
My parents gave me this book when I was 3 or 4. I remember reading it over and over and over again for a very long time. The characters are very cute and very vivid. To this day, 20 years later, I still have my original copy that sits amongst the other classics in my bookshelf. It is even complete with my 4 year old handwriting on the inside cover: "This book belongs to..." written on the inside. I have loved this book for 20 years, hopefully you will too.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book
My [...] year old son loves Franklin. And reading this particular book to him was no exception. Book is about overcoming fear. Franklin is afraid of the dark, but everyone is afraid of something - so how do you overcome. Good book, fun reading.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great springboard for discussions with a preschooler
I found this book to be helpful in getting my daughter to realize that everyone is afraid of something and that fear is a natural emotion. This books helps to show how the characters deal with their fears. If your child is very fearful of the dark, I would recommend you read the book before sharing with your child.I had no problems with an increase in fears after reading this book but neither of my children are very fearful of the dark.

3-0 out of 5 stars This was a bad book for us
This was our first Franklin book and my son really, really likes Franklin now.I had never heard of him before this book, which was a "gift" from the pediatrician for my son's pre-preschool check-up.

The Franklin books are great.

This one, however, I wish we had skipped.

The thing is, my son was never afraid of the dark.I don't think it ever occurred to him that you *should* be afraid of the dark. But after reading this book, he started to have nightmares. We can't get him to tell us what they are about exactly but they have something to do with Franklin and his small, dark shell.

This might be a good book to help a child who is afraid of the dark get over it.But unless our child is some sort of anomoly, it could also have the potential of giving bad ideas to a child who is not afraid of the dark.

Consider your child when you purchase this book. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars amazing book to prepare for a hospital stay!
This is honestly the best book to prepare your child for a hospital stay/surgery.i am a pediatric nurse at a hospital and a mother.my 2 1/2 yr old recently had to have surgery and an overnight stay at a hospital.i bought a few books to prepare him and after reading the others we completely abandoned them for this one.my son has never seen Franklin before so i can't even use the excuse that he is a "fan" of franklin.this book goes into great detail about what to expect.it is very sweet in that it explains that being a brave patient doesn't mean you aren't scared.my son was so well prepared for his hospital stay that he truly handled it very well.the nurses, surgeon and anesthesiologist even told me that when he got into the OR he was asking questions about the machines.we still read this book because he likes it so much.the only thing i found odd was that it explained that franklin's parents went home at night.i'm not sure how other hospitals work but where i work and where he had surgery both hospitals allow parents to spend the night.but i just explained that i would be with him the entire time and that daddy would be there during the day.i could not give higher reviews for this book.it is by far a very well written book and i plan on recommending this to anyone preparing their child for a hospital stay.

I am 8 years old and I went to the hospital for a cast on my arm and I was really scard and I got this book and read it every day but i also got surgery when I was 5 but I dident have the book yet but I hid onder my bed for 1 hole hower and then it was time to go to the hospital I came home and I was glad I didenthave to do it again and a few days ago my friend had a prblem with her independex and she went to the hospital and she felta lot better ialmost had surgery done on my independex it's no big deal. by lisa goldberg

5-0 out of 5 stars A great resource
When Franklin the turtle is injured playing soccer, his mother takes him to the doctor. It seems that little Franklin's shell is cracked, and he will need surgery to make sure that it heals properly. It's hard being brave when you are so scared, but Franklin muddles through.

This is a great book, one that should be made available to any young person facing surgery. The story is interesting and the illustrations are bright and well-done - which will engage the youngster's attention. And, the lesson of the surgery is very well done. I think that this is a great resource, and I highly recommend it to every parent whose child faces surgery.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book!
I was very pleased with this book!My 3 year old son had his spleen taken out. By reading this book, it readied him for what was to happen for the most part in the hospital.Franklin is a character that he knows so we can reread the book now and talk about his feelings after his surgery compared to Franklin's.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very helpful
My 3 yr old son really enjoys this book.At the time we purchased this he was afraid of loud noises. This book has helped to ease his fears. The book is well written and the characters are cute.I would recommend this to anyone.

5-0 out of 5 stars "WE HAVE NOTHING TO FEAR BUT FEAR ITSELF."
FRANKLIN AND THE THUNDERSTORM is a colorful, entertaining, imaginative young reader book dealing with a relevant issue--FEAR.We all have them so this young reader book is sure to grab the child's attention. There is conflict and character growth, the formula for a great story a child will remember and ask for again.

Franklin's mother sends a reluctant and nervous turtle dressed in galoshes and a rain hat, carrying an umbrella, over to his friend, Fox's house as a storm begins to brew. When he arrives, there are three other animals there sharing their opinions about the approaching thunderstorm such as: "My fur feels funny," says Fox. "My feathers get all ruffled," says Hawk. "I can smell a storm coming," says Beaver sniffing. No one seems to be scared but Franklin. But he is scared enough for all four of his buddies! The storm hits full force and they all run inside. When the power goes out Franklin is so terrified he retreats inside his shell and no kind of coaxing on anyone's part, even treats from Mrs. Fox, will get him out. So Franklin's friends use their imaginations and begin talking about the CLOUD GIANTS.Whether the Cloud Giants are bowling or playing drums in the sky (thunder,) swinging from chandeliers or turning their lights on and off (lightning,) the illustrations are what make the story so great.Beaver quotes Mr. Owl's factual definition of thunder and Franklin, by this time, is out of his shell and smiling.Fox and his friends go back outside and Franklin discovers a rainbow. What Franklin say at the ending rounds out this very special story.

*You should buy this for the funny illustrations of the Cloud giants and what Franklin says about rainbows alone.Wonderful short story for ages 4-8. I got a set of 4 Franklins in a book club for my young daughter and this is her favorite.

5-0 out of 5 stars Afraid
It helps children to deal with fears. In this book Franklin is afraid of thunderstorms. His friends help him thru it when they find out and are supported. This is an excellent book for any child that has a fear.

5-0 out of 5 stars Children Will Enjoy It

5-0 out of 5 stars Another wonderful collection of Franklin stories
Franklin the Turtle is a lovable character in children's literature and all the more appealing for young readers as he embodies all that a young child is - he can be temperamental, sweet and most stories deliver a moral lesson for Franklin and his friends. In this collection, there are four stories - Franklin is Lost, Franklin Wants a Pet, Franklin's Blanket, and Franklin and the Tooth Fairy. The stories are heartwarming and the gorgeous full-color illustrations are sure to delight young children. I highly recommend these stories for younger readers, especially preschoolers and up. 5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT STORY, GREAT LESSON LEARNED BY FRANKLIN
I like Franklin books and stories and this, like most of the series, lived up to my expectations.Franklin tells a bit of a fib, and naturally, as is usual in such cases, is caught.Franklin is just like any other kid of this age, sometimes the tall tales are just to tempting when wanting to impress friends. The story is quite well illustrated, the text matches the illustrations and this is just a good read for children. This is a wonderful book to discuss the subject of telling untruths with the children. This work holds the childs interest from page one and they love the illustrations. I was pleased to see that the author did not have the parents deal out some sort of awful punishment for his crime. Most often, just the fact of being caught in a fib, the embarrassment, is quite enough to teach the child (or in this case, the turtle) a good lesson.I can well remember when I was that age.Had I been "punished" for all my tall tales I would still be serving time. All in all, an excellent book and I highly recommend this one.

2-0 out of 5 stars Good
Good book to show that lying is not a good idea. However, Franklin is never really disciplined on why it is not a good idea to lie.

4-0 out of 5 stars Franklin Fibs
This story was about a turtle named Franklin who lies to his friends. Franklins friends can all do something unique like climbing the highest tree, flying over the berry patch without flapping their wings, and chopping down a tree with using just their teeth. Well Franklin gets really jealous so he makes up a lie. Hetells all of his friends he can eat 76 flies in the blink of an eye. The lesson this book teaches is not to lie. The age level of this book is about from ages 5-8. I liked this book because it teaches an important lesson that all children need to learn.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Gentle Friend
Feeling overwhelmed by the amazing accomplishments of his friends, Franklin wants to feel important, too. Brashly he fibs about how many flies he can eat in the blink of an eye. Then he must deal with the consequences of his lie. As Franklin learns about proper conduct and relationships, children can identify with the situations of this gentle friend. They may need help in understanding what a fib or a lie is. Now if the authors would only write about Franklin's Awful Word or Franklin is Rude.

5-0 out of 5 stars All Franklin books are the best.
Franklin is the cutest little turtle.I love all the Franklin books. They each teach an important lesson of what children go through growing up. The illustrations are marvelous.Very bright and colorful. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good
Good book. It shows that helping is nice and kind, but sometimes overhelping isn't. Like when Franklin was doing everything for Snail because he thought Snail couldnt do it. That hurt Snails feelings. Often people do that with those with disabilities or elderly people because they think they cannot do anything by themselves...so they are babied.

4-0 out of 5 stars Maybe you are being to helpful sometimes
Franklin and his friends are going on a searh through the woods to find interseting things and bring them back to share with the class. Snail and Franklin set out with the rest of the group, everyone is finding things, except for Snail. Franklin seems to be doing everything for Snail, and this makes Snail feel very helpless, and very angry. He is trying to do things on his own, and he keeps getting interuppted. Snail finally gets up the nerve to tell Franklin that he can do things by himself. Franklin gets hurt by thins and doesn't really understand, but his friends help him understand when they show him what Snail can do. Franklin understands, and feels bad. He tells Snail he is sorry, and trys to help Snail from now on only when he feels he really needs help.

1-0 out of 5 stars Paid for New/ got used
It clearly says when ordering this book that the price is new at 2.98.I paid that price from a indie seller and what I received was a " USED" book.I personally am mad at Amazon for billing things as brand new and then getting a book with folded corners and another child's name in it.I know it is only 3.00 but still it is my good hard earned money and I expect better service out of Amazon.I will not bother buying Children's Books from Amazon.com again. What's the point if I wanted used books, I could go to a Thrift store.I want clean brand new books for my daughters, I am taking my business elsewhere to another brand name book site.

I am a speech pathologist and I work with a little boy who loves recycling and garbage trucks. He loved this book because it showed all the steps about garbagecollection and made it interesting and fun. When we paired the book with a toy garbage truck it was even better! This book is a little longer than the other two garbage books I purchased and is for a child who can listen to a story and pay more attention to text.It is more advanced than Trashy Town which is also a darling book.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great resource
Having a little sister is proving quite frustrating for Franklin - she cries all the time, she tries to steal his toys, and she is just plain irritating. But, before he even knows it, Franklin's mother shows him just how rewarding it can be to have a little sister!

This is an absolutely wonderful book. I too have a boy who found his little sister quite irritating. This book is a great resource that should be given to every family who adds another child into an existing family. The story is interesting and the illustrations are bright and well-done - which will engage the youngster's attention. I highly recommend this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Cute Book, Great Story and Pictures
This is another excellent "Franklin" release. This story is all about some of the issues Franklin faces with his sister, Harriet, who is now a toddler. Franklin likes being a big brother, but when Harriet starts thinking that his dog Sam is hers, he begins to see things in a different light. (And if you know about Franklin, then you know how important Sam is to him.) Fortunately, like a lot of brother/sister quarrels, this is only a temporary problem and Franklin learns that Harriet isn't so bad after all. Each page of the story is beautifully illustrated and it reads well also.

5-0 out of 5 stars Hooray for big brothers!
If your child loves Franklin, he'll love this book!Franklin learns that even though he doesn't like being a big brother ALL of the time...he loves his sister very much, and she really loves him.I would recommend it to all Franklin lovers! ... Read more
