Product Description
Katherine and Michael meet at a New Year's Eve party. They're attracted to each other, they grow to love each other. And once they've decided their love is forever, they make love. It's the beginning of an intense and exclusive relationship, with a future all planned. Until Katherine's parents insist that she and Michael put their love to the test with a summer apart..."Forever" is written for an older age group than Judy Blume's other novels for children. It caused a storm of controversy when it was first published because of its explicit sexual content. It was a book ahead of its time - and remains, after thirty years in print, a teenage best-seller. America's No. 1 children's author has written some of the best books of our time about real-life issues - family stress and pressures, what happens when your parents divorce, the problems of growing up and sexual awakening, bereavement - with insight, sensitivity and honesty. The response of readers all around the world continues to make her one of the best-loved writers ever published. ... Read more

Im 26.So just to put my review in perspective. But, I really thought this story was plot based. There was really no symbolism, no deeper meaning, nothing.A led to B which led to C which led to D.I thought the characters were really flat. There could have been so much more insight to a "first love" relationship than just "Hey! Should we do it yet?Or whole relationship is based on whether we do it or not."Which, yeah a lot of relationships are ... but there was no writing about the letdown of guards we all put up, or the awkward moments afterwards, etc.It was just "Let's do sex.It kinda hurt." - very plot oriented. Morality wise, this book "supports" premarital sex.Just thought I'd put that out there for women trying to buy this for their 17 year old daughters. Judy Blume has done better. Fast read, though.

FOREVER... is the most romantic teen love story ever written!

Katherine and Michael are normal teens who meet in a normal way - at a party! What they have together is so bonding it seems like it will last forever. It's also the most difficult kind of relationship, because they are truly in love.

After meeting and going out a few times, Katherine feels like she is in love. When she and Michael begin getting closer in a sexual way, they both feel as if this could be it.

If I say any more about the plot then I will give away the whole book!

Once I started reading this book I couldn't put it down! It isn't often that you come across such an amazing love story because it is told as if Ms. Blume has really been in this intense of a relationship.FOREVER... is a must read for any older, mature teens due to sexual content.

5-0 out of 5 stars Should be required reading for all teens
Judy Bloom's "Forever" is a great tale about a young woman's journey into adulthood and independence by focusing on her relationship with a boy who becomes her first sexual partner. We follow the main character from the time she meets the boy until the end of the book. I first read this book as a horny 15 year old boy and read it again years later when I was in my 20's and it had a different meaning for me. When I have teenagers, especially if I have girls, I am going to recommend they read this book. It's that good! ... Read more

Product Description

Iggie's house just wasn't the same. Iggie was gone, moved to Tokyo. And there was Winnie, cracking her gum on Grove Street, where she'd always lived, with no more best friend and two weeks left of summer.

Then the Garber family moved into Iggie's house -- two boys, Glenn and Herbie, and Tina, their little sister. The Garbers were black and Grove Street was white and always had been. Winnie, a welcoming committee of one, set out to make a good impression and be a good neighbor. That's why the trouble started.

Glenn and Herbie and Tina didn't want a "good neighbor." They wanted a friend. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars New Friends
When Iggie moves out of her house Winnie is heartbroken, that is until the new family moves in.There is a younger girl and two boys her age.Winnie is so excited she runs all the way home to tell her mom.The most exciting part to Winnie is that they are a black family. She has never really had any black friends and can't wait to get to know them.Winnie's enthusiasm however is not shared by everyone in her community. As the book is written in 1970, there were still many neighborhoods that were all white and "those kind" were not wanted. Some people feared they would bring about others of their kind and gangs, riots and bad things would follow.Winnie strives not only to become good friends with the family, but to help the neighbors see that they are just like everyone else.

The book is in fact written forty years ago, so why review it now?I think it is a classic book that is a great reminder to all.We may not have as much of the racism toward African American people today, but whether people want to admit it or not it still exists. It may be that people don't want a gay couple in their neighborhood, Latino Family, poor people or whatever.Unfortunately, racism still exists and I believe this is still a very good book for young readers.

4-0 out of 5 stars All in all it was very good !!!
We recieved the book pretty fast which made my daughter happy. It was alittle old but in good shape and the price was RIGHT for her since she paid for it with her allowance. Overall WE were pleased.

5-0 out of 5 stars I learned a lot from this book.
I read this book when I was in the 5th grade.I am from a place where racism can be a huge factor at times.I have always looked back at what I learned in this book to guide me in how I act and react to situations where racism or different cultures are involved. My parents taught me well on racial issues, but sometimes learning things on your own at a young age sticks with you longer.I think every kid should read this book.

3-0 out of 5 stars Blume the dyed-in-the-wool liberal
While I found the book entertaining, Blume comes across as preachy.

Everyone has the right to like/not like someone for ANY reason, race included.HOWEVER--it doesn't give anyone the right to harass anyone else.

If someone prefers to be around others of their own race, that is their right.

She mentions the Detroit race riots in the book.My dad was living in Detroit at the time and saw it first-hand--he could not go home from work for three days, it was that bad.

4-0 out of 5 stars a book of reality

This book is short and you can read it in a couple of days or if you love to read it may only take you a couple of hours. The book is about a girl named Winnie whose best friend moves away and her best friends house is sold to a black family named the Gerbers.Know one in the neighborhood likes them.Every one in their neighborhood is white.
This book teaches a valuable lesson that color of skin does not matter. You can hang out with who ever you want no matter what your nationality .Some people think skin color matters and that black people and white people shouldn't hang out together. This book teaches you that it's okay to.

Product Description

Judy Blume is one of the most popular authors of children's and young adult fiction in American history. For over 30 years, her books and career have withstood the test of time and she continues to resonate with new generations of young readers. While she is arguably one of the most important authors of the twentieth century, she is also one of the most banned. What is perhaps the most surprising aspect of Blume's career is that despite today's proliferation of cable channels and easy Internet access, books of hers written decades ago about every day life events that all teenagers experience still manage to find themselves at the center of censorship debates. Rather than change her style, the efforts to censor her books turned Blume into an activist and champion for the First Amendment. Inside this biography Kathleen Tracy explores the life and career of Judy Blume, one of the most successful-and most controversial-authors of twentieth century.

In addition to tracing the events of Bloom's life, this engaging biography discusses historic and current censorship issues in classrooms and libraries across the country. Her association with the National Coalition Against Censorship, a group that Blume says changed her life, as did her friendship with the organization's longtime director, Leanne Katz, is examined in detail as well as how libraries, teachers, publishers and grass-roots activists have responded to the ever-growing attempts to censor children's reading material. In-depth chapters are supplemented with a bibliography of print and electronic sources that provide suggested readings for students and general readers alike. Also included is a timeline, photos, and an appendix of free speech resources.

Product Description
Two classic books by Judy Blume:

Freckle Juice
Nicky has freckles -- they cover his face, his ears, and the whole back of his neck. Sitting behind him in class, Andrew once counted eighty-six of them, and that was just a start! If Andrew had freckles like Nicky, his mother would never know if his neck was dirty.

One day after school, Andrew works up enough courage to ask Nicky where he got his freckles. When know-it-all Sharon overhears, she offers Andrew her secret freckle juice recipe -- for fifty cents. It's a lot of money, but Andrew is desperate. At home he carefully mixes the strange combination of ingredients. Then the unexpected happens...

The One in the Middle is the Green Kangaroo
Lately second-grader Freddy Dissel has that left-out kind of feeling. Life can be lonely when you're the middle kid in the family and you feel like "the peanut butter part of a sandwich," squeezed between an older brother and a little sister. But now for the first time it's Freddy's chance to show everyone how special he is and, most of a all, prove it to himself! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Judy Blume Diary
(...) "The Judy Blume Diary" is meant to be written in for approximately one year. There are, on average, 11 pages per month to write on, containing a quote on each page from various Judy Blume books, such as "Tiger Eyes", "Forever...", and "Deenie". There are also a couple dozen black-and-white photographs of young adults, all of which is meant to inspire the writer. By the end, there are a few pages for you to reminisce on how you've grown/matured over the year and what you expect to accomplish in the next year. There is also a place for addresses, phone numbers, important dates, and even a calendar, but only for the years 1986-8 (in the 1985 British version published by Piccolo).

Even though I don't intend to use this book as a diary, it's still great to have if you're a diehard Judy Blume fan (which I am). Another good book that benefits children (as well as parents) is her nonfiction book, "Letters to Judy: What Kids Wish They Could Tell You", which I highly recommend.

Judy Blume is one of the most popular writers of young adult fiction in the world. For over three decades Blume’s books have been embraced by young girls everywhere. She has sold over 75 million books, which have been translated into more than twenty languages. Much of Blume’s success is due to her insistence on portraying ‘tweens and teens in realistic situations. But that same dedication to the truth has also made Blume one of the most controversial authors of the last fifty years. No other writer has had more books banned from libraries and schools than Blume because of her straightforward depiction of teen issues. As a result, Blume has become one of America’s most vocal advocates against censorship and a champion of the First Amendment to ensure that the next generation of writers will have the same creative freedom she has enjoyed. ...
