4-0 out of 5 stars My 4 year old loves this book
My son actually saw the video for this book before he got the book. It is lacking in details, but it is also written for younger children.Alex loves seeing the parents dressed as the kids and seeing the parents acting silly.

The video gives more detail but only seems to be available through the Sprout network at this time.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Terrific Book!
This book is a hilarious treatment of the subject of seeing things from the other family member's point of view. It's the Rashomon of children's books. When the kids get fed up with their parents' discipline and restrictions (as all kids do), they base a skit in a school play on the situation by showing their parents their own behavior from the kids' point of view. But, then, the parents turn the tables on the kids by acting out the kids' negative behaviors that led to the discipline and restrictions in the first place. Both parents and kids come to understand and empathise with eachother. It's a very clever and sophisticated concept presented in a way that is funny and clear. Even quite young children can "get" this book. And it's a pleasure for adults to read--an important point when you have to read the same book over and over again night after night.

4-0 out of 5 stars A change of perspective.
The book opens with Papa and Mama Bear in grumpy moods. Papa yells at Brother for taking the sports section of the paper, Mama yells at Sister for talking on the phone too long, Mama and Papa yell at the cubs for playing with their food and for not giving them notes from school on time. The cubs go to school the next day and have to prepare for the Parent's Night Talent Show. After talking with their friends, they decide to put on a play called The Trouble With Grownups, which is the hit of the night. The show reminds the parents what it was like to be a cub. In the morning, the parents switch roles with the cubs so that they can see what it's like to be a parent. At the end they remind the cubs that they will probably be parents someday too, which gives the cubs something to think about.

The book never explains why Mama and Papa are so grumpy. However, most children can probably relate because people don't always explain why they are in a bad mood. However, Sister Bear's creation of a bowl from mashed potatoes for gravy was a brilliant example of creativity and it seemed more confusing to me that she got yelled at about it.

As a sidenote, I enjoyed this book a little more than I thought I would because it also briefly explains all the work that goes into putting on a play.

Overall, this is a good book for both parents and children to read together; it may help children see what it's like to be an adult and it may help parents remember what it's like to be a kid.

4-0 out of 5 stars The Trouble With Children
The Trouble With Grownups is a good book that every parent should read to their child.Brother Bear and sister bear feel that their parents are to hard on them and let them do nothing.Like most kids they don't relize that it's hard being a parent to.Brother Bear and sister bear get a taste of their own medicine when their parents start acting like them. Finally the cubs relize what things their parents can go through.I think this is a good book because it can teach a child the means of respect in words they can understand. This is a fully illistrated well written book.I to read this as a child and it help me understand the importance of parents and respect.Every child should pick up this book and read it because maybe it will teach them to me a little better to their parents.

3-0 out of 5 stars Trouble With Kids
The Trouble With Grownups is a book that teaches you about the hard leason every child has to over come, that yes sometimes their parents will say,"No" or "Don't Do That."This book is a great book to read to your child. It will help them understand that parents have a hard time as much as children do.It is a fully illistrated book that has a great story that can capture the child's imagination.I to read this as a child and it helped me to respect my parents and family. The greatest part in this book is when the parents turn around and start acting like children, to show the cubs how hard it is to be a parent.Maybe, if every parent did this we would have more respectful children. All in all this is a great book to read and highly recomend people to read the other Berenstain Bears books. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Berenstain Bears at their Finest
My kid loves this book; it is full of adventure, rhymes and beautiful color illustrations.

In this tale, we join the bears as they investigate a missing dinosaur bone from a popular exhibit. The tale is made extra thrilling as the museum is going to open soon and people are lined up outside. What happened to the bone is hilarious and entertaining.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great classic Berenstain bear book!
This is a great book.I remembered it from MY childhood, and my daughter (2) loves it!This is an easier B-bear book for smaller kids to listen to, as it rhymes and is a very simple plot.Basically, a dinosaur bone disappears from the bear museum and the bears (3) search for it."There's no case too hard, no case too tough, for the bear detectives and their hound dog Snuff!"

5-0 out of 5 stars Classic Beginner-Books Berenstain
The books that the Berenstains wrote for Beginner Books (which Dr. Seuss edited) are very different and, to me, much better than the stuff they've been cranking out since. They use much simpler vocabulary and shorter sentences, and are written in rhyme, which really helps hold my son's attention. The stories, too, are simpler, funnier and just plain more entertaining. This one is one of our favorites, with a really fun "Is That it? Nooooooo" storyline, and a cute surprise ending. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Helpful Positive Book
This book is really a big help in dealing with the problem of kids struggling with their school work. Papa and Mama Bear are disappointed with Brother's report card grades. But they help him deal with the issue in a constructive way, and in the process come to understand the pressures he is under. It's also a very funny book--that's something that is attractive about this whole series. The authors deal with real life situations and problems but the advice they give is presented in a fun and entertaining way. A lot of the way that the characters act--like Papa Bear messing up--is used for humorous purposes. Papa Bear reminds me a lot of Ralph Cramden in the Honeymooners!

5-0 out of 5 stars Highly recommended for kids before kindergarden
Every time when I go to Barnes and Noble, I go to the children's section to look at this book.Right now I have this book and my sisters liked it.They think this book is about getting good grades, even up to straight A's.

Kids, read this book several times, and you can end up getting good grades, even straight A's!!!

I would also give it 100 stars!!!

1-0 out of 5 stars Bearly concealed contempt for fathers - not on my bookshelf!
I almost bought this book for my 6-year-old son, but started flipping through the pages, and I'm glad I did. In the story, although Papa is supposed to take the lead in improving his son's report card, he is portrayed as a bumbling idiot who is incapable of performing his role, and who requires and receives stern direction from Mama Bear.

Look at the cover - Papa Bear is shown frowning at the report card as if he can barely read it!

This book plays into the common, trite stereotype that fathers in the household are unnecessary buffoons who can expect at best to be tolerated, but never respected.

If you think I'm overreacting, read the book, imagine the story with the gender roles reversed, and then imagine the ensuing outcry if a publisher dared to print such a version.

4-0 out of 5 stars The Berenstain Bears Go Back To School
If you think you might have heard this story before, it's because the Berenstains have written a handful of books about school experiences (Go To School, Trouble at School, School Scandal Sheet, Substitute Teacher, Homework Hassle, among others). This story is original, but reminiscent of topics already covered in "Trouble at School" and "Homework Hassle."The story itself is good (Brother's involvement in sports causes his grades to slip) and a topic that is actually becoming more and more of an issue in a world where there seem to be more sports teams to choose from in a given season than math problems in an average assignment. One question: where is Honey Bear, the new baby sister that was introduced last year? You won't find here here, just as we haven't seen in in two other recently published books that followed the introduction of a the Bear Family's new cub.I hope that she merely wasn't a promotional tool! :-) ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Love the Berenstain Bears
My children all love the Berestain Bears. We love their "lessons" and my children seem to really pick them up from these books.

4-0 out of 5 stars Should go back into bookstore shelves
The Berenstain Bears were highly recommended by my friend. Unfortunately I couldn't find them on the bookstore shelfs in my locality. So I opted for buying them at Amazon online. In a nutshell, these books teach simple life lessons in a way a young child can relate to and understand. For example, where the bears forget their manners, Mama Bear gives them chores to do around the house, to help them remember their manners the next time. And when the little bears tell a lie, its the sad look on Mama's face that make them decide to tell the truth

3-0 out of 5 stars Two boys' review: Muddled story misses the mark
We bought this book along with The Berenstain Bears and the Bad Dream and The Berenstain Bears Count Their Blessings. I wrote Amazon reviews for those books as well and recommend them.

I don't recommend "The Berenstain Bears and the Blame Game."

This book starts off with brother and sister bear arguing over who was responsible for a broken vase in the living room. Mama Bear is angry and tired of the blame game. Papa Bear intervenes, cleaning up the mess with the help of the children while Mama Bear calms down. His lesson is "there's always enough blame to go around" so work together to fix the problem.

The book suddenly shifts to a second accident, a broken picture window, and Mama and Papa Bear reverse roles, concluding again with "there's always enough blame to go around."

The book clearly illustrates a resolution (clean it up) but the story misses the opportunity to address the root problem behind the blame game. The book simply isn't as good as The Berenstain Bears Get in a Fight.

Our sons, ages 6 and 4, enjoy the Berenstain Bears books (we own more than 10 now) and find it easy to relate to the young bears in the series. I like to mix these stories into our rotation of bedtime books to reinforce good manners and behaviors.

While I still recommend the Berenstain books listed below, we're running into a new problem: as each book is exclusive, the characters don't evolve. My sons are asking why brother and sister bear didn't learn from the last book. The good news is that my sons remember the lessons; the bad news is that the Berenstain bears don't.

We own and recommend:
The Berenstain Bears and the Trouble with Chores
The Berenstain Bears Help Around the House
The Berenstain Bears Forget Their Manners

I used to read these to my friend's little girl. When my twin's were due, that same little girl (by then a teenager) sent me a collection of books. 4-0 out of 5 stars Very cute book, great for households getting a new pet
If you're contemplating a new pet in your home, this book does a great job in explaining what has to be done for that pet. For example, the feeding, watering, chores, etc. all associated with having a pet are explained.Brother and Sister bear are getting a new puppy and go through the regular cycle of wanting it, getting it and then not taking care of it.Mama makes up a chore board for the dog and therefore, ends the arguments on whose turn it is to take care of Lady. The only problem with this book is that the storyline gets a little dry in places when the authors spend the time focusing on what is involved in caring for their new dog.Other than that, it's very entertaining and well thought out.We recommend this book!

5-0 out of 5 stars The Berenstain Bears Troble with Pets
The Bear family had taken in a little bird because its leg was broken. So Papa bear made a wooden splint for the little birds' leg. But when the time came to let the bird go, brother and sister became very sad. They asked Mama and Papa Bear if they could get a pet; Mama Bear said "no". But Papa Bear is all for it!So the Bear family all gets into the car to go to the pet store. So, they are driving along and brother sees a sign that says "PUPPIES AVAILABLE SEE FARMER BEN". Papa Bear drives into the drive-way and up to the barn. Sister finds a puppy and the whole family agrees on it. Farmer Ben gave them the puppy for free! They were so happy!! They had to wait a couple of weeks though because the puppy needed her mothers' milk. After the couple of weeks went by and it was time to go pick her up from farmer Ben. And they took her home.
The lesson this book teaches is that you should take responsibility of things you said you would. The age level for this book could be age's six to 10. I think that this book is good because it teaches how you should take responsibility of your pets.

4-0 out of 5 stars Learning About Pets.
Every child wants a pet at least once in their lifetime. Most of the time it's because they think animals are cute and they never really take time to understand all that goes into taking care of an animal. In THE BERENSTAIN BEARS' TROUBLE WITH PETS, Brother and Sister Bear want a pet of their own after caring for an injured bird for a week. Soon after they select a puppy from Farmer Ben's new litter. It takes a few weeks before the cubs can take the dog home, so in the meantime they read up on a book about puppy care. When they finally get the dog, the have to get him a license, leash, and shots. Then there are all the things that go along with taking care of a dog, including cleaning up the nasty accidents. The puppy grows into a big pup, and becomes too big for the house and has to be moved outside. The Bear family loves her very much and she becomes another member of the family.

Children rarely consider all that accompanies raising a pet, from the shots to cleaning up "accidents" to the fact that some animals grow so much they are no longer able to live inside one's home (they are just too big). This book introduces many things that children may not think about on their own and therefore is a great read for any kids that maybe wanting a pet of their own.

5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT FOR ANIMAL LOVERS
My little brother just got his first puppy, along with this book for his birthday. He was not allowed to go near his new puppy until after he read this book. This book was a great inspiration for him. The book shows the little bears with their new puppy and it focuses on how much attention and affection a little puppy requires. The book also focuses on the pleasures of having a puppy and the frustrations of cleaning after it and all the work it takes caring for a puppy. This great book taught my little brother how to nurture, care for, feed and clean up. It taught him that having a puppy is a big responsibility and it was easy for him to read and understand.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good book

5-0 out of 5 stars A Very Funny Storybook
This is a hilarious take-off on classic fairy tales. My kids loved it when "The Big Bad Pig" got a stomach ache from eating his way through the "Three Little Cubs'" houses made of cake and candy. The storyteller is Mrs. Grizzle from The Berenstain Bears and the Sitter. She's a great character and it's nice to see her back. This collection is a good way to revive kids' interest in traditional fairy tales which have taken a back seat to all the TV shows and movies that we are bombared with. It reminds me of the "Fractured Fairy Tales" on the Rocky and Bulwinkle show that I loved when growing up.

1-0 out of 5 stars Disappointed
I was excited to see this book, I own almost all of the Berenstain Bear books but this book was definitely nothing great. It pretty much consists of old stories (3 little pigs, little red riding hood, etc.) but changed them up a bit and it's told as a story of the cubs being babysat. It's a little difficult to read a story to a child about a story being read to another child, definitely would not recommend this to anyone. ... Product Description
What fun! What excitement! What a nuisance. At least that's the way Sister Bear feels. If it isn't being fed, burped, or diapered, it's being dandled, cuddled, or kitchy-kitchy-kooed. Yes, Sister's pretty fed up with the fuss everyone's making over the new baby. Even the dolls make her angry, because they remind her of the baby. Then Sister gets a special homework assignment and, with a little help from wise old Mama, comes to believe that this new baby might just be a nifty addition to the Bear clan. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Better than the "prequel"
My 6-year old brought home the "Birds, Bees, and Berenstain Bears" book from his school library and was left on the edge of his seat at the end.As the library doesn't have this book, we had to get it to find out whether the new baby is a boy or girl.As a parent, I liked this book far more than the previous book, which was a little more anatomically technical than my son needed. My son enjoys the story, and I do not have any "Go ask your father" questions popping up at various points!

5-0 out of 5 stars we love it
buy this to help my niece understand the changes that a new baby would bring into her life

3-0 out of 5 stars Cute but a little negative
My adopted older daughter is 3 and we have a 2 year old foster child as well. When we got pregnant I wanted a book that talked about newborn/infant adjustments and how to handle the tiny babies. She likes the Berenstain Bears tv show so I thought this would be good. It does end on a good note, but during most of the book, sister is VERY negative and had way more issues than my daughter had even thought of! Maybe this would be better for a child a bit older or for a child who is already negative about a new baby.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book to introduce a new family member with.
We got this book before my daughter was born to read to our 2 year old son.We had hoped that it would ease the transition from being an only child to an older brother. This book is easy to read, isn't too long and has great illustrations.

5-0 out of 5 stars Sweet edition to the Berenstain Family

5-0 out of 5 stars Berenstain Bears Go to Camp.
I used to read these to my friend's little girl. When my twin's were due, that same little girl (by then a teenager) sent me a collection of books. My children loved them all and we read at least two Berenstain Bears stories each and every night. Well now my friend's little girl is all grown up, married and expecting her own baby... what better baby gift than a collection of Berenstain Bears books? They are a very likable family of bears and each book has a little theme and wholesome message. They are great for 2-4 year olds. Amazon let me ship the box directly to their door for FREE! Thanks Amazon!

5-0 out of 5 stars Another very cute story
We truly love the 'bears' in our house and this book, as the title indicates, talks about the cubs' experience going to camp. After looking forward to summer vacation, after only a couple of days, they become bored and ask Mama if they can try Grizzly Bob's Cub Camp. So, off they go, skeptical but still ready to try it and by the fourth day, both of them are thrilled with their choice. They continue to have fun throughout ths summer at camp, which culminates in a scary overnight stay on top of Skull Rock. They were apprehensive at first, but by the end of the summer, they are so thrilled with their experience that going to school will seem like a vacation, according to Sister. This is just another very nice story in a long line of the Berenstain Bears series and we just adore these books in our house. This one is no different.Highly recommend!

5-0 out of 5 stars THE BERENSTAIN BEARS GO TO CAMP!
I really liked this story because it was good.I like the part where brother and sister bear wanted to go to camp and they thought it was fun and they got there and the first day sister did not like it and then the second day brother did not like it and then the third day sister and brother bear liked it and then they have the best time in there life there and at the end sister said when we go back to school it will be like a vaction and I liked it because of that and I think that the berenstain bears books are awesome and they are so much fun to read and I like doing book reviews on the berenstain bears books and it is so much fun just to write about what you think the story is like and you get to rate the book and that is why I like doing this so much and I love the berestain bears books because it shows that you need to take responsiblity in your own hands and not cause troubles and wine to any body just try not to cause a big problem. I just love seeing how they change at the end and at the beging they have a problem. thats all I had to say. p.s. I love BERENSTAIN BEAR BOOKS and they are awesome!!!!!!!!!!

4-0 out of 5 stars The Bears Go to Camp
The Bears go to camp! What fun! We've gone camping in the woods several times this summer, and my 3 year old daughter has been fascinated by this book, particularly the overnight adventure. She has identified with their camp adventures very closely.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Berenstain Bears GO TO CAMP
The Berenstain Bears GO TO CAMP was a good book. It was about how the cubs wanted to go to a camp because they were bored, but at first they didn't want to go. The sister cub didn't like the idea very much only because she didn't want to spend overnight outside. The brother cub was curios about what "fully supervised" meant. This book taught a good lesson about how you shouldn't turn things down until you try them. At first the cubs didn't want to go but then they tried it and found out they actually liked it. The age level of this book is pretty much all ages. Parents can read this book to their children or young kids can read it on their own. I think this book was a good book and I enjoyed reading it. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars It's a classic!
My 4 year old loves this book and kept asking for us to read it to him.He has heard it so much that he now has it memorized and "reads" it to himself!I would highly recommend this book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Condition
The book I received was in very good condition. This is the first time I have bought anything from this particular person. The only issue I had was that it took alot longer to receive the book.

5-0 out of 5 stars a REALLY funny book
I had this book as a kid and loved it until it fell apart. There are only 3 books from childhood that I can still recite -- this is one of them. The father bear's well-meaning but disastrous bike lessons are hilarious. I cannot recommend this book highly enough.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Bike Lesson
You've got to love the Berenstain Bears! This is a laugh out loud ride!

5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Rhyming Berenstain Bears book
This is one of the earlier type of Berenstain Bears books, that rhymes in a very simple style perfect for new or early readers. The great theme is that the father, in teaching his son how to ride a bike, makes mistake after mistake, and after each disaster tells him, "this is something you should NOT do" while the son patiently and wisely watches and learns.Delightful; your young child is sure to love it.Sadly, later Berenstain rhyming books are flat and dull; then they stopped rhyming entirely. This book is lively, clever, and pure delight.(Kenneth Higbee has a useful "list" of rhyming Berenstain Bears books -- this is not on that list as of this writing.) ... 4-0 out of 5 stars I have no idea why the Berenstains gave up these funny early readers for moralizing tales!
Modern day Berenstain bear books aren't as good as the older ones, that's for sure. Go on too long, and they all have a treacly moral at the end, and they're just not funny.

This is one of the original. Now, the cover there shows the newer, cutesified bears, but inside it has the old illustrations - with claws!

Anyway, the story progresses just about how you'd expect. Papa Bear wants to go on a picnic, every place is perfect right up until it's NOT, and eventually he ends up back home. It's funny, it rhymes, and there's no moral gumming the story up.

Interestingly, not all the characters are bears. We've got some rabbits and monkeys and others in the mix as well.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best kids book EVER
This book is a classic, my mother read it to me as a child and now I read it to my son.It is very funny, very well written with great graphics. Should be in every kid's library.

5-0 out of 5 stars cute book
This is a cute and well written classic. My daughter loves this book. She is 3 years old and we have been reading it for about a year.

1-0 out of 5 stars The Bear's Picnic
I was disappointed with the condition of the book.Pages torn & colored on.Not the condition I was told by the seller.I will not purchase from
them again.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of my childhood favorites!
This is one of my alltime favorite books from my childhood! The best part about the book is the illustrations! Most of the pictures seem to be geared toward the grown-ups reading the book, not just cute drawings for the children. Especially the little backround illustrations and Mother Bear's expressions---hysterical! Many of the older Berenstain books seemed to have that underlying adult humor--- kinda like The Simpsons does nowadays.I think they wanted the grown-ups to enjoy the books as much as the kids.In my opinion, the Bears books of today (as well as the TV cartoon program) are benign, and dull compared to the witty books written when I was a kid. ...
