5-0 out of 5 stars Sacred Influences, by Bennett Books Publishing
Essays on the qualities of Life, Nature, Doing, Wisdom, God, and Sacred Images. These essays communicate a deep confidence that an unconditioned realm of experience exists and is available to all.
The essays in this book also represent another example of Bennett's remarkable capacity to bring seemingly abstract and theoretical notions into a practical, meaningful, moment by moment reality. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing reviews of infectious diseases
This book is the mother of books about infectious diseases all around the world! This is an obligatory book that has to be on your library. Has excellent reviews of the majority of illnesses with great quality images. Even this version of the book includes a CD with images info to make your own presentations. Currently, I think is the best book about Infectious diseases.

5-0 out of 5 stars Infectious Disease Bible
I am a hospital pharmacist. An infectious disease pharmacist showed me how much you could find in the previous edition of this book when I was doing a residency. Because many of the patients get admitted to the hospital due to some type of infection, this book has been invaluable in helping me understand details of any disease state. It has helped me understand antibiotic drug therapies and the reasons behind them more than any other written resource. And most importantly, it is a known and respected reference to the hospitalists that I can refer to modifying drug therapies or answering drug information questions related to infectious diseases.

It may seem expensive, but it has laid down multiple blueprints for looking at the complicated field of infectious diseases. I encourage anyone who is going into the field of pharmacy to make sure they can at least access these books.

1-0 out of 5 stars I was ripped off

Incidence and prevalence of this condition increase with age. It differs in its etiology, pathogenesis and treatment from anemia in children and younger adults. Anemia is associated with reduced survival, increased risk of functional dependence and hospitalization, increased risk of congestive heart failure and stage renal disease and cognitive disorders. Product Description
The New York Yankees beat the Brooklyn Dodgers in the World Series four times in eight years during the l940s and early '50s. In a 10-year span, the Brooklyn "Bums" managed to lose in their last game of the season seven times, including five years in a row. Their fans in Brooklyn remained faithful, but miserable. The Dodgers had fielded magnificent position players, the storied "Boys of Summer." But pitching is the name of the game and dozens of famous Dodgers hurlers failed in the fall. In October of 1955, however, in front of thousands of Yankee fans right in their own stadium, a left-handed pitcher peeled away layers of post-season pain. Johnny Podres shattered the myth of Yankee invincibility. His was the ultimate triumph of clutch over choke. He shot down the Bronx Bombers.Johnny Podres gave Brooklyn its one and only World Series victory. He killed the Yankees.A borough-wide celebration more boisterous than those of VE-Day and VJ-Day combined erupted in Brooklyn, which hailed him as their savior. It was the most celebrated victory in the history of the World Series. It has yet to be matched. No other pitcher had won a World Series final game for Brooklyn. No other pitcher would ever do it again. No other ballplayer had ever replaced such low civic self-esteem with such unparalleled joy. Two years before the Dodgers moved to Los Angeles, Johnny Podres dispatched the Bums from Brooklyn.Podres, the Most Valuable Player of that Series, and the 1955 Sportsman of the Year, became a pivotal pitching figure for the Dodgers on the West Coast, showing young stars such as Sandy Koufax, Don Drysdale and Don Sutton that it was actually possible to envision World Series victory.Because Johnny Podres broke the ice and melted a major league inferiority complex, the Dodgers would win again and again. Podres won the Los Angeles Dodgers'' first game (against the hated San Francisco Giants), pitched the first game at Dodger Stadium, and knew every Dodger hurler from Dazzy Vance to Pedro Martinez.Podres continued a great pitching career and went on as a pitching coach, mentoring some of the best pitchers in the game, including Curt Schilling of the Red Sox, who turned in a Podres-like performance in 2004. The Podres career was successful on the mound and colorful off the field. Dozens of former player have attested to that in this story of the inspiring life of a small-town boy who realized the ultimate big-league dream. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars PODRES WAS GOLDEN
When I was eight years old, my nineteen-year-old brother took me to my first major league baseball game at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. My beloved Dodgers defeated the Cubs that day, 11-4, with Johnny Podres going all the way for the Bums.

I recall that the day was spectacular in every way! For an August afternoon, it was unseasonably cool but pleasant, shirt-sleeve weather. The sky was as blue as the piping of the Dodgers home uniforms, and the golden tones of Vin Scully's voice wafting from hundreds of transistor radios was as comforting to me as bees were to the Irish poet William Butler Yeats in his bee-loud glade.

The game itself was another kind of poetry. I was already a student of the game, a player, and I was in awe of the magician on the mound, the architect of the fabled game 7 shutout of the invincible Yankees six Octobers earlier.

So it was with a delicious delight that I discovered this book, which brought it all back to me and rekindled so many other fond memories of Podres, a better than average big league pitcher and pitching coach who was more than a compliment to our left/right duo for the ages, Koufax and Drysdale. Casey Stengel knew how good Podres was (he tells you here).

This book is almost refreshing in that it sticks mostly to the baseball and ignores the strip-away-the-veneer-and-tell-all approach that so appeals to today's habitual viewers of reality TV. Frankly, I don't care much about the kind of man Podres really was; I cared about him as an athlete, as an important member of my Dodgers. He did not disappoint. Of course, I wished him well in years after he left the game, and as we both aged, and I was saddened by his death earlier this year. But it's fun to walk back through his life again with this book, to revisit Bear Mountain and his humble beginnings, his progress and arrival in the Bigs, his performances and friendships. I also gained a sense of what his life was like in his final decade. Podres lived life on his own terms, and he successfully seized the transformative moment of his life. Not everyone can say that. Thanks for the memories!

2-0 out of 5 stars Not a Killer of a Biography!
This is another of those vanity-press-published so-called biographies of a baseball player. When will these literary amateur fans who think they can produce a book learn that there's more to writing a ballplayer's life than simply interviewing the man and a few of his surviving teammates, looking up some old ball games on microfilms of newspapers, and going on-line to accumulate the guy's statistics? The writing in this book is grammatically correct, but otherwise dull and flat. There are no interesting insights into Podres' character, and the way his life is presented is so sanitized that you'd think the book was WRITTEN in the 1950's! Many of the anecdotes told here have appeared in previous books about the Dodgers and 1950s baseball, none of which the authors acknowledge. Those earlier works present the stories in much earthier- and more accurate- form than they appear here. Johnny was a colorful character- a notorious gambler, a heavy drinker, and a prodigious womanizer- but this worshipful volume barely hints at any of that. His gambling is noted, but treated as a harmless little quirk, rather than a life-long addiction.

Podres had only a modestly successful major league career, and would be largely forgotten today except for the feat noted in the book's title: he won the 7th game of the 1955 World Series against the Yankees, giving the Brooklyn Dodgers their only World Championship. Since that achievment occurred quite early in Podres' career, the rest of the book is pretty much of an anti-climax. ... Read more

Written during the height of the ecology movement, The Ecological Transitionis a stunning interdisciplinary work. It combines anthropology, ecology, and sociology to formulate an understanding of cultural-environmentalrelationships. While anthropologists have been studying relationships betweenhumans and the physical environment for a very long time, only in the lastthirty years have questions inherent in these relationships broadened beyonddescription and classifi cation. For example, the concept of environment hasbeen extended beyond the physical into the social. ... Read more

When Bennett first wrote this book he was unable to complete the manuscript, so in effect, this book is not complete.Neverthless, it represents a good introduction to spiritual practice in the Gurdjiefftradition, and also one that transcends the Gurdjieff Work into a widerarena. It covers different kinds of work on oneself, including Struggle, the often misunderstood form - Sacrifice and the magic and mystery ofGrace.I first read the book back in 1982, and I find myself referring toit over and over again, both for myself and my students. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A Must for any sincere seeker
Everytime I read this book again, I am amazed about the importance of the message J.B. Bennett brings about.

The importance of Hazard, the Risk one has to take for bringing
about possibilities one otherwise has not access to. The realisation, why the world was created as it is, where fate is to be placed, why chaos, why a just determined world cannot be like our world is.

Not just a must for any 4.th way seeker, but as much for any true and sincere spiritual seeker! ... Read more
