    Extractions: Nacido en París en 1622, en el seno de una familia burguesa, es educado en humanidades y en derecho, orientándose personalmente hacia el teatro. Jean-Baptiste Poquelin, su nombre auténtico, toma el seudónimo de Molière en recuerdo del escritor François de Molière. Tras crear una compañía de teatro, en la que dirige, produce y actúa, pasa varias temporadas en la cárcel provocadas por las deudas económicas. Protegido de Luis XIV , es ayudado hasta que, tras caer en desgracia, es atacado con saña por todos aquellos que ridiculizó en sus obras. Su muerte se instala de lleno en lo dramático, al morir realmente sobre el escenario mientras representaba su obra "El enfermo imaginario". Su teatro ejerce una feroz crítica social, creando arquetipos que son utilizados para representar vicios y virtudes que sirven para fustigar a la aristocracia y la burguesía de la época . Su dominio de la escena se plasma en la composición de su obra, reflejando un control absoluto de las técnicas interpretativas y escenográficas. La comicidad la logra mediante la creación de tipos burlescos y desmesurados, con los que ataca el exceso y el extremismo, tan poco queridos a su condición de burgués mesurado. Es autor de obras maestras como "El misántropo", "Tartufo", "El avaro" o "El burgués gentilhombre", entre muchas otras. Falleció en París en 1673.

Toutefois, dès 1643, il décida de devenir comédien et fonda, avec sa maîtresse Madeleine Béjart et quelques amis, une compagnie théâtrale, baptisée l' Illustre-Théâtre . L'année suivante, il prit la direction de la compagnie, sous le pseudonyme de Molière, qu'il choisit pour des raisons qui n'ont jamais été élucidées. Rapidement, l' Illustre-Théâtre connut de véritables succès. Installé sur la rive gauche, dans le jeu de paume des Métayers, il ouvrit ses portes le 1er janvier 1644. Bénéficiant de l'incendie qui avait dévasté la salle des comédiens du théâtre du Marais, l'une des deux troupes concurrentes, il fit salle comble pendant près de huit mois. En octobre 1644, cependant, après la réouverture du théâtre du Marais, la situation se dégrada et ce fut bientôt la débâcle financière : Molière fut emprisonné pour dettes en août 1645. Commença alors une longue période de vie provinciale, au cours de laquelle la petite troupe voyagea à travers le royaume, se fixant un temps dans le Languedoc, où elle bénéficia de l'appui du duc d'Épernon, puis du comte d'Aubijoux. De cette époque date la première pièce connue de Molière ( l'Étourdi , 1653), qui fut créée à Lyon. La même année, le dramaturge gagna la protection du prince de Conti, mais la perdit quatre ans plus tard, après que l'ancien libertin se fut converti à la plus grande austérité religieuse. Privés de soutien (le comte d'Aubijoux était mort en 1657), les comédiens décidèrent de rentrer à Paris. Grâce à l'aide de Monsieur, frère du roi, la troupe eut alors la chance de pouvoir jouer devant Louis XIV et sa cour, et obtint de partager avec les comédiens italiens la salle du petit Bourbon. The path to fame opened for him on the afternoon of October 24, 1658, when, in the guardroom of the Louvre and on an improvised stage, the company presented Corneille's Nicomède before the king, Louis XIV, and followed it with what Molière described as one of those little entertainments which had won him some reputation with provincial audiences. This was Le Docteur amoureux ("The Amorous Doctor"); whether it was in the form still extant is doubtful. It apparently was a success and secured the favour of the King's brother Philippe, duc d'Orléans. It is difficult to know the extent of the Duc's patronage, which lasted seven years, until the King himself took over the company known as "Troupe du roi." No doubt the company gained a certain celebrity and prestige, invitations to great houses, and subsidies (usually unpaid) to actors, but not much more.

Son père, qui le destinait à sa succession, obtient qu'il puisse reprendre sa fonction, honorable et lucrative de « tapissier et valet de chambre du roi », c'est à dire fournisseur de la cour en étoffes diverses et en petit mobilier. Il suit ses études de jeune bourgeois au collège de Clermont, l'actuel lycée Louis-le-grand, puis à Orléans où il obtient une licence en droit. V následujícím roce založil s Madeleinou Illustre Théatre, jež ovšem záhy pro dluhy zaniklo. Moliere vstoupil do koèovné herecké spoleènosti, s níž po øadu let putoval po francouzském venkovì. V roce 1654 se potkal s herci italské komedie dell’arte a podle jejich vzoru napsal první scénáøe a první hru. V dobì koèování získal nezaplatitelné zkušenosti, které byly asi rozhodující pro celou jeho tvorbu. I jako herec si zøejmì ovìøoval možnosti, jak bavit a rozesmát obecenstvo, a využil toho nepochybnì i ve své kariéøe dramatika. Spoleènost, již Moliere vedl, si získala dobrou povìst a tìšila se i vážnosti. S pomocí pøátel se dostala i do Paøíže. 24. The son of a Parisian artisan, Poquelin lost his mother when still a child and entered the prestigious Jesuits' Collège de Clermont, to complete his studies. It is said that his father was very hard to him, or that in this college he met the prince of Conti, or that he was a pupil of the philosopher Gassendi, but these statements appear to be not really more than unverified hypothesis. In reality, Poquelin was a close friend of the abbé La Mothe Le Vayer, the son of the famous philosopher, in the years in which the abbé was reordering his father's works, and this allows to presume that Poquelin could be somehow influenced by them. Among his first works, he wrote a translation of De Rerum Natura by Lucretius , now lost. At the age of 18, his father left him the title of Tapissier du Roi , and the annexed charge of valet de chambre by which he could be in frequent contact with the king. Poquelin is supposed having graduated in law at Orléans in 1642 (but some doubts however remain).
