Extractions: The History of Mariani Meats Mariani Industries Pty Ltd was established in July, 1977 by Mr Paul A Mariani III at Casino, Northern New South Wales, Australia Casino was chosen by Mr Mariani because of the close proximity to the Northern Co-operative Meat Company, the largest and most modern abattoir in the Southern Hemisphere. The Mariani family tradition goes back 80 years to Cupertino, California, where Paul A, Mariani Senior purchased land and proceeded to grow different varieties of fruit. This business developed from a growing, o a drying and processing business which was carried on by Paul A Mariani Junior to become the third largest manufacturer of dried fruit in America. Mr Paul A Mariani III came to Australia in 1972 to assist in the development of the Australian dried fruit operation. During his early years, he saw the opportunity to put his fruit drying/fruit processing expertise into the drying of meat. Thus began the history of Beef Jerky in Australia. The Beef Jerky market in the USA has been established for many yhears and was a proven success story. There was no reason to believe it would not work in Australia also. On the 1st June, 1988 the business was sold to a management group of former employees of Mariani Industries Pty Ltd and began trading as Mariani Meats Pty Ltd. It continues to be run by the same management and staff, carrying on the tradition of quality and service to our customers.
