Extractions: Qualify Report / 12 Sep. '98 The Saturday qualifying sessions for the fifth round of the All-Japan Grand Touring Car Championship (GTC) were held at Twin Ring Motegi on September 12. The weekend event is first ever for a GT series to be run on the road course of the dual-track circuit, located about 100km north of Tokyo, and all 38 cars took to the track in intense competition for winning the pole. (Note:The 1997 GT All-Star Race was held at Motegi on the super speedway oval course last year.) The morning and afternoon qualifying sessions were each spilt into three 20-minute segments: one each for the individual 500 and 300 classes and one segment where the classes ran together. The morning session of the 500-class segment was red-flagged about 10 minutes after it started due to oil leakage onto the circuit from a Lamborghini Diablo entered by the Japan Lamborghini Owners Club (JLOC). The session got underway again following a cleanup break of around 20 minutes. Before the interruption, the #16 Honda NSX driven by Ryo Michigami set the pace with a fine lap time of 1.50.313. But unsatisfied with that, he returned to the track after the break and proved his contention for the pole by setting a new course record of 1'50.042. A good fight was shown by machines of other makers in the first 20-minute segment, with the #38 Toyota Supra driven by Hironori Takeuchi at 1'51.161, settling in at third, and the #50 Skyline GT-R of Nissan Team Arta (driver Takeshi Tsuchiya) clocking a 1'51.901 for a provisional sixth on the grid.

The institute made up six departments, including our department, "the Department of Cell Chemistry". Exactly one decade later, in April 1, 2001, Okayama Universitry Graduate School of Medicine and Dentistry was reorganized and our department was followed by being included in the graduate school. Recently, our department has been focusing on lipid biochemistry, gene therapy, clinical immunology, and lipoprotein metabolism. The research programs at the department are closely integrated and across the spectrum of basic to clinical research.
