Extractions: An experiment into reading habits between the sexes has shown a sharp divide in tastes and boredom threshholds. A women's and a men's jury were appointed to select a shortlist for the Orange Prize for Fiction - to examine the impact of gender on reading. The official jury of women's judges has already narrowed down a shortlist but the men have just announced their choice with entirely different results. Researchers found the main difference between the lists was the length, with men favouring shorter books. The male list shares just one author, Kate Grenville, with their female counterparts. The men's shortlist: Esther Freud - The Wild Trezza Azzopardi - The Hiding Place Laurie Graham - Dogs Days, Glen Miller Nights
