Read more

Excerpt: Jana Novotná (Czech pronunciation: ) (born 2 October 1968 in Brno, Czechoslovakia) is a former professional tennis player from the Czech Republic. She played a serve and volley game, an increasingly rare style of play among women during her career. She won the women's singles title at Wimbledon in 1998 and cried on the shoulder of the Duchess of Kent after losing the 1993 Wimbledon singles final. Novotná also won 12 Grand Slam women's doubles titles and four Grand Slam mixed doubles titles. Novotná turned professional in 1986. In the early years of her career, she was known primarily for her success as a doubles player. In the early-1990s, Novotná began to have success in singles once four-time Grand Slam singles champion Hana Mandlikova became her coach. Novotná reached her first Grand Slam singles final in 1991 at the Australian Open, where she lost to Monica Seles. Two years later, Novotná reached her first singles final at Wimbledon, where she faced Steffi Graf. After losing a tight first set, Novotná took a 67, 61, 41, 40-15 lead. With victory seemingly in her grasp, she lost her nerve and allowed Graf to come back into the game. Graf took the next five games and the title. During the prize presentation ceremony, a distraught Novotná burst into tears and cried on the Duchess of Kent's shoulder. The duchess comforted her by saying that she was sure Novotná would win the title one day. It took four years for Novotná to reach another Wimbledon final. In 1997, she faced Martina Hingis, and lost in three sets. However, Novotná won the 1997 WTA Tour Championships and finished the...More: http://booksllc.net/?id=307050 ... Read more

Excerpt: Petr Korda (born 23 January 1968) is a former professional tennis player from the Czech Republic. He is best known for winning the Australian Open in 1998 and for becoming the first well-known player to be suspended for ingesting a banned substance shortly thereafter. Korda was born in Prague, Czechoslovakia. He first came to the tennis world's attention as a promising junior player. In 1985, he partnered with fellow Czech Cyril Suk to win the boy's doubles title at the French Open. Korda and Suk ranked the joint-World No. 1 junior doubles players that year. Korda turned professional in 1987. He won his first career doubles title in 1988, and his first top-level singles title in 1991. Korda was involved in four Grand Slam finals during his career two in singles and two in doubles. In 1990, Korda and Goran Ivanievi finished runners-up in the men's doubles at the French Open. In 1992, he rose to the men's singles final at the French Open, where he was defeated in straight sets by defending champion Jim Courier 75, 62, 61. In 1996, he teamed-up with Stefan Edberg to win the men's doubles title at the Australian Open. The crowning moment of Korda's career came in 1998, when he faced Marcelo Ríos in the men's singles final at the Australian Open. Korda dominated the match from start to finish by winning in straight sets 62, 62, 62 and claimed his first (and only) Grand Slam singles title. The wi... More: http://booksllc.net/?id=1439769 ... Excerpt:Nicole Vaidiová (Czech pronunciation: ; born 23 April 1989) is a former Czech female tennis player. Vaidiová was an Australian Open and French Open semifinalist and also reached the quarterfinals at Wimbledon. Vaidiová started playing tennis when she was six years old, enrolling to train at Nick Bollettieri's tennis academy in Bradenton, Florida. Her serve was considered her biggest weapon. On 9 August 2006, at the age of 17 years, three months, and two weeks, she became the 12th-youngest player in WTA Tour history to be ranked in the top 10. She achieved a career-high ranking of World No. 7 on 14 May 2007. Her form dipped shortly after, and at the time of her retirement in 2010, she was ranked at No. 177. From March 2009, she was coached by her stepfather, Ales Kodat, who replaced David Felgate. By the end of 2009, she had hired top coach Eric van Harpen. She retired in March of the following year, citing "lack of interest in tennis" as the primary reason. Vaidiová debuted in 2003 by reaching three consecutive finals: won $10K ITF/Plze-CZE, her only event in 2003, without dropping a set. Vaidiová finished the year as a top 100 player. As a qualifier at only her third WTA Tour main draw at inaugural Vancouver, Vaidiová became the sixth-youngest singles champion in tour history at an age of 15 years, three months, and 23 days. She also became the lowest-ranked player (World No. 180) and second qualifier (of three) to win a title in...More: http://booksllc.net/?id=2113973 ... Read more
