Food Nine days after losing to Jennifer Capriati in 1996 in the first round of a European indoor tournament in Zurich, Gabriela Sabatini retired from tennis. She was just 26. The Argentine glamour girl had been a professional player since the age of 14 and wanted out despite having won 27 singles titles and over £6 million in prize money. 'I'd had enough,' Sabatini, now 31, said recently. 'I started playing at six and it was just tennis every day from then on. Tennis is a lonely sport, most of the time you are travelling on your own.' Indeed, Sabatini had already started looking beyond her tennis career prior to winning the US Open in 1990, her only grand slam victory. Three years earlier, when she was 17, German perfume manufacturer Cosmopolitan Cosmetics approached her about launching her own range of fragrances, and by 1989 the first Gabriela Sabatini perfume became available in the shops.
