Extractions: Joined Manchester United in a £3.5million deal with Tottenham Hotspur, the club he followed as a boy. Began his career with Millwall, making 220 league appearances and scoring 93 goals. Bought by Nottingham Forest in 1991, and after a fruitful first season was sold to Spurs in a £2.1 million deal Bought to replace Eric Cantona in the link-forward role, he made United debut at White Hart Lane and sadly for him and amusingly for the Spurs boo-boys, he missed a penalty. After a bright start to his United career, he faded badly as United lost out to Arsenal's late charge for the Premiership title. His performances attracted the attention of the knockers and he was abused by both United and opposing fans. After spending most of the 1998/99 season sidelined by injury and the amazing performances of the Yorke-Cole axis, he returned to the first-team, usually as sub, to score some of the most important goals in United's history.
Extractions: (LaurenceGriffiths/Allsport) Sheringham, who is likely to be named tomorrow in Sven Goran Eriksson's squad for Wednesday's friendly against Holland and is a near certainty for a World Cup place, thought his England days were over when Kevin Keegan left him out of the Euro 2000 squad. But he was determined not to give up. 'I was 33 then and I thought that was probably it,' he said. 'But I never felt the need to retire from international football. If you still love playing for your country, why retire? I can understand Alan's reasons, but it wasn't an option for me. I had some good people around me who convinced me that things could change - and I'm glad I listened to them.' Not that it wasn't a frustrating time. Sheringham, now the Tottenham captain, barely featured during the Keegan reign, despite having been a regular under Terry Venables and Glenn Hoddle, and he found his unique talents surplus to requirements ahead of the ill-fated Euro 2000 campaign.
Extractions: This site would look much better if you upgraded to a newer browser capable of supporting web standards Monday, April 30, 2001 Teddy Sheringham has been voted PFA player of the season, am I the only one that thinks this is ludicrous? He's not even the best striker in the Premiership let alone the best player. Marcus Stewart has made the transition from First division to the Premiership seamlessly and his 21 goals (as many as Sheringham) has surely been a factor in this team, favourites to go down at the start of the season, finishing at least in the top 4 surely. Lee Bowyer whose outstanding performances against top European opposition, the kind that have put Man Utd and Teddy Sheringham in their place this season, have surely put him amongst the top players in the Premiership, even discounting the problems he's had off the pitch. Roy Keane? Uniteds' best player this season by a mile, he and Vieira are the most influential two players in the premiership, as well as two the most gifted. Steve Gerrard?

Extractions: Newcastle United(0) MANCHESTER United manager Alex Ferguson paid a glowing tribute to his Double winners after their 2-0 FA Cup final victory over Newcastle United at Wembley yesterday. "That's fantastic - three Doubles in five years. The boys were marvellous," he said. United stayed on course for a glittering treble of League, Cup and European Cup, the third of which is to be decided against Bayern Munich in Barcelona on Wednesday. They took the League title last Sunday, and were superior to Newcastle for most of yesterday's match. An 11th-minute goal from substitute Teddy Sheringham and a 53rd-minute strike from Paul Scholes sealed their triumph. Scholes' goal was a fantastic consolation for the England striker who is suspended from the European Cup Final and who went into the match fighting a chest complaint. A 'flu bug in the United camp threatened to disrupt Ferguson's plans and there was a further blow when skipper Roy Keane went off with an ankle injury after eight minutes.

Extractions: Apr 16, 2003 - 10:40 AM Many deem this clash as the title-decider. It probably will be, but one should be mindful that even if Arsenal win, they could drop points in the last five matches and be pipped by United. The Gunners lacked consistency in recent times so much so that a win at Highbury does not give them the title. In contrast, if United win, they will virtually sew up the title as they have a far more reliable system of playing that gives them the desired results almost every time. Read more! So the stage is set for an exciting FA Cup final in Cardiff on 17 May between Arsenal and Southampton, both of the top flight. Will the Gunners achieve their consecutive Double (of course, they have first to contend with Manchester United in the Premiership) or will the Saints continue their march towards glory as one of the seasons revelations?

Extractions: New Sheringham Deal On The Cards Tottenham striker Teddy Sheringham looks set to be the oldest outfield player in the Premiership next season with a new one-year extension of his contract at White Hart Lane. Spurs will not confirm that the England man, who turns 37 on April 2, is about to sign a new deal to replace the one that runs out in June. Manager Glenn Hoddle insists that contract negotiations are strictly private matters but it is understood that terms have been agreed for Sheringham to stay at the club for one more season in what is his second spell there since returning to north London from Manchester United at the start of last season. Although Hoddle has refused to comment on recent speculation over the former Millwall and Nottingham Forest star, he suggested at the start of the current campaign that Sheringham was looking sharp enough to earn a new deal. He has justified that faith with 26 appearances and eight goals so far this term. But he is having to move quickly to secure Sheringham for another season as the player will be legally entitled to a free transfer immediately unless offered a new deal by the end of this month.
