Extractions: French footballer David Ginola has said he is prepared to return to England "at any level" in a bid to re-start his career. The flamboyant 35-year-old has been out of action since English Premiership side Aston Villa refused to renew the playmaker's contract at the end of last season. But he insisted he had not given up on his playing days just yet. "I could come back at any level," Ginola told Sky Sports on Thursday. "I need three weeks of work, intense work and I'll be back." Ginola added that flair players like himself were the people who drew crowds to games. "You know when you buy a ticket you want to see guys who give you entertainment, pleasure. That's what we are about." The former French international admitted he was still angered by the way he left the midlands club. "I scored six goals at Villa. I was in good shape even though John Gregory (then Villa manager) said I was fat. "That was very frustrating. My passion for the game was running out of petrol."

Extractions: (MarkThompson/Allsport) The Frenchman, who joined the Toffees from Aston Villa in February, has failed to make an impression and came on for just one substitute appearance under David Moyes. The 35-year-old winger has left the club under the Bosman ruling and must now contemplate whether he has a future in English football. Alec Cleland, who arrived at the club in 1998, has also been released after fewer than 30 starts in an injury-ravaged spell on Merseyside. Less clear-cut however is the immediate future of Swede Jesper Blomqvist. The former Manchester United winger is in 'ongoing' talks over his future and a decision on whether or not he will be part of Moyes' squad next season is expected to be made in the next 48 hours. A club spokesman said: 'We can confirm that David Ginola and Alec Cleland have both left the club. Jesper Blomqvist's situation still has to be sorted out, though a decision is expected shortly.'

Extractions: Carla Power Source: Newsweek (LN). As the World Cup approaches, the planet's most popular sport at last may have found a way to sell itself to Americans. To American women, anyway. With his silver-blue eyes and shoulder-length hair, French-born soccer star David Ginola is so damned good-looking he may just be able to do what organizers and publicists have been trying to accomplish since before he was born: turn Americans into soccer fans. Specifically, American women. Let's face it, American boys and girls may love to play the game an estimated 18 million kick a ball around at least once a year but red-blooded, beer-swilling, television-watching, nonimmigrant American men just don't tune in to the foot-dribblers. Not enough scoring. Not enough crashing and banging. Women, on the other hand including the soccer moms who take their kids to play are getting very, very interested. And as the World Cup tournament begins next month in France, advertisers and promoters are taking note. Women everywhere are turning on to what is already the world's most popular sport. In Europe, females are starting to outnumber the hooligans in the stands. In Iran, women are demanding the right to go to matches, no matter what the mullahs say. But the spin on sex and soccer in the United States is a little different. Not least, it's about American women who have grown up playing the game just like the guys and want pinups in their lockers, too.
